President Tinubu, Others To Start Paying Airport Tollgate Fees

President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima and others will henceforth pay the required fees at tollgates whenever they use the nation’s airports.
This decision was taken today, May 14, at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The FEC meeting, presided over by the President, approved that there should be no more exemption granted to users of the airports from paying tollgate fees.
The minister of aviation, Festus Keyamo, had presented a memorandum to the council, arguing that the government is losing over 82 percent of the revenue it should have earned from the e-tags that provide access to the tollgates.
He said that the memorandum had initially prescribed an exemption for only the President and the Vice President before Tinubu overruled and directed that both of them should be included among those that must pay.
Keyamo regretted that Very Important Persons (VIPs) with money who should pay are those that have not been paying, saying that only the poor people have been charged for using the tollgates.
He said that this situation must now stop.
