Airtel Lied, We’ve Not Renewed Its Operating License – NCC

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has put to lie, claim by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Office of Airtel Nigeria to the effect that the mobile operating license of Airtel has been renewed by it for another period of ten years.
A statement today, July 18 by the NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde, recalled how the Airtel CEO made the claim in an online publication in Lagos on July 14, during the media launch of Airtel’s corporate social responsibility programme, ‘Touching Lives 6.’
Dr. Ikechukwu admitted that Airtel Nigeria had applied for the renewal of the Universal Access and Service (UASL) License granted to it by the Commission but that the application is yet to be approved as it is still undergoing required regulatory process.
“This statement is issued for the guidance of our stakeholders.”
