A month-long Ramadan Fasting by Muslims across the world may end today, April 20 and Sallah observed tomorrow, April 21 if the moon of Shawwal is sighted tonight.
Already, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has asked Muslims to look out for the crescent of Shawwal 1444 A.H, immediately after sunset today Thursday, 20th, and 29 Ramadan 1444 A.H.
A statement by the Director of Administration, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Zubairu Haruna Usman-Ugwu, quoted the Sultan, who is the President-General of the NSCIA, as saying that if the crescent is sighted by Muslims in accordance with the moon-sighting and verification standards today, April 20, then Friday, April 21, will be declared as the first day of Shawwal and the day of Eid-el-Fitr.
The Sultan gave directive following the advice of the National Moon-Sighting Committee (NMSC).
The NSCIA director said that if the crescent is not sighted today, April 20, then the Fasting will be completed at 30 days tomorrow, Friday while Saturday, April 22, automatically becomes the day of Eid-el-Fitr.
