The Presidential legal team condemned the acts of violence that occurred in some parts of the country during the elections, even as it congratulated President Buhari for winning the 2019 presidential election and thanked Nigerians for their overwhelming support.

All is not well with the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), as a group under it, known as APGA Aggrieved Forum, has given the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) a nine-day ultimatum to sack the National Chairman of the party, Chief Victor Oye, or face abysmal failure in the March 9 governorship and State House of Assembly elections.
The group, made up mainly of aspirants of the party in last year’s primary election, warned the BoT chairman of the party who doubles as Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, not to joke with their demand as such would spell doom for the party.
The group made it categorically clear that if Obiano failed to do their bidding, APGA would fail woefully in the state parliamentary elections especially in Anambra State.
Speaking to news men in Awka, the spokesperson of the group, Onyeka Mbanaso, alleged that APGA under the leadership of Oye, had performed poorly, and that failure to put him aside would see the party being overrun by the opposition in the coming elections.
“We are giving Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano nine-day ultimatum to sack the national chairman of the party, Chief Victor Oye,” adding that they wanted him to return monies he made from aspirants during the primary election.
“What happened in last Saturday election where APGA performed poorly is a preamble of what will befall the party during next week’s House of Assembly election across the 30 state constituencies if necessary action is not taken.
“So, we the aggrieved members of this party, are calling on the Board of Trustees Chairman who is also the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, and other concerned stakeholders to sack Chief Victor Oye.”
However, Oye in his reaction said the aggrieved members were an insignificant few, that were merely seeking a way to cause division in the party.
Oye boasted that APGA had never been as strong as it was now, stressing that the party put up a strong fight in last Saturday’s election and as a result won 11 House of Representative seats across the country.
“APGA is the third biggest political party in the country. We all know why last Saturday’s election went that way, and I can assure you that the House of Assembly election will be a totally different ball game.”
Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu will reportedly be indicted on fraud charges related to his relationship with the owners of a top Israeli news site.
It was reported today, Thursday that the country’s top prosecutor plans to indict Netanyahu on a charge of bribery and two counts each of breach of trust and fraud. The news comes just weeks before Netanyahu is set to stand for reelection for a possible fourth term in office.
Police, according to NBC, said that Netanyahu used his relationship with the company, Bezeq to promote hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of regulatory changes in the company’s favor in exchange for positive news coverage on Walla, a popular news site owned by the company.
Netanyahu has denied the charges and his party, the Likud Party, called the indictment “political persecution,” according to the Times of Israel.
“Nobody is surprised by the attorney general’s announcement that came after three years of relentless pressure on him by the media, the left and judiciary bureaucrats to indict the prime minister at any cost — even when there isn’t anything, just to have it happen before the elections,” the party said in a statement.
Netanyahu had previously predicted that the country’s police chiefs would recommend his indictment but had expressed confidence that Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit would not press charges.
“The State of Israel is a state of law. The law says that the one to determine whether there is evidence against the prime minister is the attorney general and he consults with the state attorney. The state prosecutor recently said in the Knesset that about half of the police’s recommendations end with nothing,” Netanyahu said earlier in February.
“So do not be nervous. … I am sure that at the end of the day the competent legal bodies will come to one conclusion, to the simple truth: There is nothing,” he added at the time.
Netanayhu is a top ally of President Trump, who praised the Israeli leader on Thursday while not commenting on the allegations.
“He’s tough, he’s smart, he’s strong,” Trump told reporters at his summit with North Korean leaders in Hanoi, Vietnam.
A general election is scheduled in Israel for April 9. Netanyahu, 69, has called the allegations against him an attempt to remove him from office.
National chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, described the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Saturday’s, February 23 election, Atiku Abubakar, as a political rolling stone that is not destined to be Nigeria’s president.
Speaking to news men today, Thursday in Abuja, Oshiomhole said that the Nigerian electorates have spoken, which indicated that Atiku would certainly not rule Nigeria in spite of his desperation.
According to him, those who were waiting for an Atiku free market regime had missed it, as Nigeria does not need such investors.
The APC national chairman stressed that what the country needed at the moment were genuine investors with long term interest and ready to invest in real production and labour intensive industries.
Oshiomhole expressed optimism that genuine investors who had genuine businesses and ideas and knew the market potentials of the Nigerian economy would remain in spite of what the opposition thought.
The APC national chairman said such investors would come in to take advantage of the country’s huge market.
“Leadership is about character, Atiku’s desperation is so obvious, he is so desperate, and it is on record that he challenged his own boss, former President Olusegun Obasanjo not to do a second term.”
Oshiomhole noted that Atiku fought his former boss, left their party and joined another where he got its ticket to contest the presidency then, but lost.
He said it would be difficult to count how many time Atiku had defected from one political party to another, saying that:”he is a political rolling stone.
“He is such a political rolling stone, does he think Nigerians are so insane: Atiku is a man who is not stable, and has no conviction.”
Oshiomhole said that Atiku’s interest was all about himself, following his confession during his campaigns that he was going to sell off some of the country’s national assets and enrich his friends, if he became president.
The APC national chairman maintained that Atiku would “certainly not be the country’s president at a time like this.”
He wondered what gave the former Vice President and PDP presidential candidate the sense of entitlement that he must be the country’s president, adding that the APC would not deny anyone the right to dispute the outcome of an election in court.
He said that resorting to violence was not the way out, saying that even as Edo State Governor, he had to go to court to reclaim his electoral mandate when he was cheated out.
“I did not resort to violence, and I did not call out workers to go on strike to defend my mandate.
“All I did was to submit to the laws of Nigeria which says if you doubt the outcome of an election, and you have course to dispute it, the only lawful way open to you is to go to court.
“So we are looking forward to meeting Atiku Abubakar in court.”
The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), has congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari over his re-election at the Saturday’s, February 23 Presidential election, even as it advised the Presidential candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar and others who lost the election to accept the outcome. In a statement in Abuja, the chairman of the union, Ayuba Wabba noted that Buhari was the second person to get reelected since the return to civilian rule in 1999, saying: “We also wish to congratulate other candidates for their participation and urge them to accept the outcome of the election, and adherence to the peace accord they signed before the election. “The electioneering campaign although bitterly fought and the election itself keenly contested, we urge the President-elect and any aggrieved party to put first the interest of the nation. “We reiterate that no candidate’s victory or loss is worth the life or property of anyone. “Mr. President won in 2015 on his campaign promise to fight corruption, restore security and grow the economy. From his reelection, this may have boded well with the greater majority of the people who voted for him. “Nonetheless, his reelection avails him a great opportunity to reflect on and reassess this vision, strategy and implementation as well as enables him to complete pending projects and initiate new ones where feasible.” Ayuba Wabba, the NLC would work with the social partners, government and organized private sector to ensure that Nigerians, especially, workers get dividends of democracy as at when due. “Workers-pensioner-issues, especially salaries, pensions and welfare will continue to dominate our engagement with government. ”We commend INEC for organising the election in spite of the initial glitches. It should speedily correct the lapses identified so far in order for it to conduct more credible elections in the future. ”Finally, our most profound commendation goes to the millions of Nigerians who defied all odds to perform their civic duty. ”Similarly, our deep condolences go to the families of those who lost their lives. We demand that the culprits be brought to book in accordance with our laws.”
A civil society organization, YIAGA AFRICA, has confirmed that the results of the Presidential election held last Saturday, February 23, and which was released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are in agreement with its own compilation.
According to its chairman, Dr. Hussaini Abdu, the result released by INEC, which saw the incumbent President, Muhammadu Buhari emerging as President-elect, fell within its Parallel Vote Tabulation (PVT) estimated range.
Dr. Hussaini Abdu, who spoke to newsmen today, Wednesday on the group’s Statement on the 2019 Presidential Election Results in Abuja, YIAGA AFRICA’s WTV utilised the PVT methodology; the gold standard citizen observation methodology that uses statistics and ICT.
He said that the group deployed 3,030 observer teams in pairs to a random statistical sample of 1,515 polling units located in every local government area (LGA) and states of the country.
He said that the deployment to a statistical sample of polling units enabled YIAGA AFRICA to independently project the vote shares that each candidate should have received within a narrow range.
“YIAGA AFRICA’s findings show that for the presidential election the All Progressive Congress (APC) should receive between 50.0 per cent and 55.8 per cent of the vote.
“The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) should receive between 41.2 per cent and 47.0 per cent of the vote; these figures are consistent with the official results as just announced by INEC.
“For both APC and PDP the official results fall within the PVT estimated ranges.”
Dr. Hussaini Abdu said that YIAGA AFRICA results statement was based on reports from 1,491 polling units which are 98.4 per cent of sampled polling units, adding that YIAGA AFRICA’s projections were also consistent with the officially announced vote shares for the other 71 parties who contested in the presidential election.
He said that the group’s projections were based on the results announced in the polling units and would have detected any significant manipulation occurring during collation at the ward, local government area, State and national levels.
The chairman said that INEC’s official results for turnout and rejected ballots were also generally consistent with YIAGA AFRICA WTV estimates.
He said that YIAGA AFRICA estimated that turnout was 37.5 per cent with a margin of error between 35.9 per cent and 39.1 per cent and INEC’s official turnout was 35.7 per cent.
He said that similarly YIAGA AFRICA’s estimated rejected ballots were 4.0 per cent with a margin of error of between 3.4 per cent and 4.6 per cent while INEC’s official figure for rejected ballot was 4.5 per cent.
Dr. Hussaini Abdu, however said that the Feb. 23 presidential election was characterized by similar shortcomings that marred previous national elections in Nigeria.
Former Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has vowed to challenge his defeat in the February 23 National Assembly elections, saying that the loss was a temporary setback.
Speaking to Channels TV at the ICC in Abuja where President Muhammmadu Buhari was issued Certificate of Return by INEC today, Wednesday, Akpabio mate it clear that he cannot lose the elections.
“I won. It’s a temporary setback. That is why there are processes. For instance, if you feel that you were cheated or there was wrong collation, you have recourse to the courts. I did not fail; I can’t fail.
“I believe strongly that there must have been some wrong collation somewhere. Those things will be corrected. We have processes in the election. It’s from one stage; we have to do registration, vote and collate.
“As far as there is a mistake anywhere, you go to the court and get your mandate. My mandate is somewhere waiting for me. My people know that I can’t fail elections.”
According to the result from INEC, Akpabio lost the Akwa Ibom North West senatorial seat to PDP candidate and former Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Christopher Ekpenyong, in eight out of 10 local government areas.
The former deputy governor scored 118,215 votes to defeat the incumbent Akpabio who secured 83,158 votes.
Former Nigeria President, Olusegun Obasanjo is said to have gone into hiding since the announcement of President Muhammadu Buhari as the winner of the last Saturday, February 23 Presidential election in the country.
Obasanjo, who had been quite vocal in the build-p to the election has, however, appears to have suddenly gone into hiding by keeping silent since the result was announced.
Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that telephone calls made to Obasanjo’s Media Aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, were not picked while text messages sent to him for reaction were neither acknowledged nor replied.
NAN recalls that Obasanjo, had severally castigated Buhari, and openly campaigned against him few months to the election.
The former president also endorsed and adopted Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the major opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), whom he had once accused and condemned over corruption claims.
He had also told Nigerians that God would not forgive him (Obasanjo) if he ever supported Atiku to be president, but later changed political gear to ensure that Buhari was not re-elected. The presidency has however repeatedly asked Nigerians to ignore Obasanjo, saying that Buhari’s performance in office was enough to earn him re-election.
From the results announced by INEC, Buhari had defeated Atiku in Obasanjo’s polling unit in Abeokuta and also scored a total of 15,191,847 to defeat Atiku, his closest rival who scored 11,262,978 votes.

“Your re-election is a testimony to the level of confidence that you enjoy among the people of Nigeria, attributable to your wisdom, experience in politics, sense of engagement and devotion to the service and the protection of the interests of the country especially as they relate to the prosperity, wellbeing and security of your people.”
King Mohammed VI expressed satisfaction with the existing cordial and fraternal African relationship linking the two leaders, their people, and nations.
