Farooq Kperogi And His Herd Of Mourners, By David Onmeje Onmeje

As a social commentator, there are some people I have regards for, and there are also some I do not have considerations for. The reasons are simple.

There is a group that believes that the pen is mightier than the sword and are circumspect in their writings. The other group of people who are opportunists masquerading as social commentators, while in truth, their motivation is for monetary gains. Farooq Keprogi and his ilk’s constitute the bulk of the second group and primarily why I am writing this piece. “If you are not ready to hear the truth, don’t come to my palace!”

Farooq Kperogi was one of the presidential speechwriters during the regime between 2002 to 2004. So in a way, it is expected that he would not ordinarily see any good in the present administration in solidarity with his former boss. I stand to be corrected. He has also somewhat displayed some erratic tendencies that indicate he may be offended by the theory of unfulfilled expectation regarding political patronage.

Just maybe. However, that is a topic for another day.

As stated earlier, I think Nigerians should be wary of writings from such individuals especially on issues of national interest.  This is not to say that he hasn’t contributed his share of brilliant writings over time, but rather to say that his recent posturing as reflected in his writings are suspect and highly misleading.

For some inexplicable reasons, Farooq Kperogi now seems to celebrate bad news. He seems to be quick in passing judgments like he would have done better if given the opportunity. The worrisome aspect of it all is that he is far away from the truth in Atlanta and ordinarily would depend on second-hand information or secondary data to keep abreast of happenings in Nigeria.

As a supposed researcher, he should know that secondary data are viewed with a pinch of salt because, the accuracy of secondary data is questionable due to, and, the data may be outdated. I do not like to make classifications, but in this instance, I am forced to state that Farooq Kperogi has joined questionable characters like Deji Adeyanju who have made it their stock in trade to wait for a bomb to detonate and they get pictures of disaster scenes outside Nigeria and post online without having the courtesy to verify.

Yes, that is how bad they have taken their trade. And I am not surprised. I am of the opinion that Nigerians should not take these characters seriously because at some point I could not make a sense out of their supposed intellectual abilities. For Deji Adeyanju, it is quite understandable, because even my four -year-old daughter  wouldn’t take him seriously because of his antecedents. But for Farooq Kperogi, it is hard to understand what went wrong.

So much so that I recall asking a senior colleague of mine if he could place the rationale for Farooq’s recent decline in engaging the minds of his readers with quality research work. And his response was apt. He said, “Kperogi has lost it.”

Indeed, I agreed with him entirely because his arguments are mostly unfounded and laced with outright insinuations and illogical conclusions. This is aside from the fact that his delivery is also incoherent and deficient. And this is supposed to be an assistant professor. I mean, the preconceived mindset can be easily deciphered by a discerning mind.

And the question is how did he disintegrate this low? A situation where a group of people for reasons best known to them would spread outright falsehood to the unsuspecting public just merely because they can express themselves in writings is at best uncharitable and a great disservice to the fatherland. It is more like they are in support of evil.

For example, they are quick to publicise to the world the activities of terrorist in Nigeria. They are also quick to let the world know that we are experiencing terrorism. They are quick to post pictures and share stories. But they always shy away from projecting the great efforts of the government of the day. They have constituted themselves into mourners. They eagerly await the next news on evil so that they can propagate it. But for how long they wish to do this is best known to them.

One thing they cannot deny is the fact that the government of the day has shown an unalloyed commitment to the Nigerian cause unlike in times past where Nigeria almost became a Banana republic. The government of the day does not need the approval rating of a few that are not resident in the country to disburse the dividends of democracy to her citizens. The government of the day is also not distracted by the antics of those that do not mean well for the country.

Interestingly, these individuals are not in the majority, but rather in an infinitesimal group who are blinded by the quest for flirty lucre to continue to cast aspersion on the giant development strides recorded in Nigeria in the past three years in critical areas.

Farooq Kperogi and his co-travelers should know and do better than what they are doing. They should retrace their steps and join hands in efforts at nation-building. The global community’s appreciation of the giant strides that have been made by President Buhari’s Administration in fighting terrorism and corruption, as well as in deftly managing the nation’s economy at a time of global economic downturn, is an indication that the Administration is on course in its quest to ensure a better life for the people.

Nigeria shall thrive again; Nigeria is on the path to greatness. And we shall get there as a people and as a country regardless of the grand efforts of the agents of darkness.

And it behooves on all well-meaning Nigerians to continue to work for a united Nigeria.

Farooq Kperogi and his group of mourners should take note.

Atiku Becomes Waziri Adamawa, Second-In-Command To Lamido Adamawa

Former Nigeria’s Vice President and the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has been formally turbaned the seventh Waziri of Adamawa. The position of Waziri makes the former vice president next to the Lamido of Adamawa, Muhammadu Barkindo, in the hierarchy in the emirate.

Speaking at the occasion, the Lamido of Adamawa, said Atiku was honoured with the title of Waziri because of his immense contributions to the development of Nigeria, particularly Adamawa State, where his impact was felt in various sectors.

“Atiku has also contributed greatly to unifying the people of Adamawa and providing useful advice to the emirate.

“The position of Waziri, which is the highest in the council puts him in charge of administration of the emirate and is given to people who are educated, honest and God fearing. It’s not hereditary and can go to anyone who deserves it.”

While urging the new Waziri to continue to carry everyone along and unite the people of Adamawa for more development, Barkindo urged all other traditional title holders to and cooperate with the new Waziri.

This was even as President Muhammadu Buhari congratulated Atiku for the esteemed position given him and wished him a successful reign. The President was represented by the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Malam Muhammadu Musa Hello.

Also former President Olusegun Obasanjo commended the Lamido for upgrading Atiku from Turaki to Waziri, adding that Atiku would surely not disappoint the emirate.

“I assure you that he will carry out his tasks with dignity, respect, honour and you will be proud of him.”

In his acceptance speech, Atiku expressed gratitude to God for the honour and thanked the Lamido and Nigerians for his various achievements in life.

The ceremony was attended dignitaries from within and outside the country, including Senate President Bukola Saraki, Speaker Yakubu Dogara, former President Goodluck Jonathan, his vice Namadi Sambo as well as governors of Gombe, Taraba, Sokoto and Bayelsa states.

There’ll Be No War In 2019, Only Those Who Want War Will See War – Akpabio

Former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has made it clear that there will be no war in the 2019 general elections in Nigeria but that those who want war will see war.

The former Governor, who represents Akwa Ibom North-West at the National Assembly, told Vanguard: “there will be no war in Nigeria in 2019, people should not think of election as war. Election should not be war. “Recently I made a statement which I love to make. I said, ‘Warsaw saw war’ because the political leadership in PDP in Akwa Ibom had said that the current administration should recruit people and prepare for war, that 2019 will be war and that only the fittest would survive.

“So, the youths and some elders of the APC met me to say that people are calling for war.

“And I told them that people calling for war have never seen war and that, in those days, even when the worst enemies of mankind, Hitler, went to Poland which capital is Warsaw to wage war, he thought it was going to be a cheap thing but it wasn’t.”

Akpabio expressed surprise that people who founded the APC were the same people determined to ruin that party, to bring down the government of President Buhari just because election is approaching, so that they could go and contest under another platform.

“I felt there is need for us to have a country before we talk about elections. People say statesmen think about the next generation while politicians think of the next election.

“I saw a trend where a lot of us are now becoming politicians thinking only of the next election without thinking of the next generation.

“I moved in the national interest, to stabilize the polity and in order to support the current administration.

“And I thin that, to a large extent, my intention was achieved and so it was referred to as ‘uncommon defection’ because it was one defection that stopped a lot of defections.

“I was not thinking whether I will win election in 2019 when I was moving because, at that time, my state was totally PDP; when I moved, people were shocked but today, less than two months after, the entire state, 98%, has turned APC.”

Ex Adamawa Commissioner, Wife, Killed By Unknown Assailants

IGP, Ibrahim Idris

Former Adamawa State Health Commissioner, Dr. Mwajim Malgwi and his wife have been killed by yet to be identified Assailants.

Dr. Malgwi, who was in his late 70 and proprietor of Polyclinic in Jimeta, Yola, and his wife were killed around Boggare village, Jimeta, as they were returning home from a meeting with farm hands yesterday, Saturday.

An associate of the late medical doctor, Ibrahim Walye, who disclosed the killings today, Sunday morning, could not give further detail, but a source said the assailants who were moving in a tricycle, waylaid the couple and gunned them down.

The Adamawa State Police spokesman, Othman Abubakar, confirmed the incident today, admitting that no arrest has been made.

He said however that his men are investigating the incident.

The late Dr Mwajim was a commissioner for health in Adamawa State in 1988-89. He was in his 70s.

Ex Ekiti Houses Speaker Describes PDP As An Aberration, Canker Worm

A former Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Femi Bamisile, has described the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) as an Aberration and a Canker worm to both political and economic advancement of Nigeria.

The former chief lawmaker, who said that no amount of propaganda will save the party from impending and unavoidable defeat in 2019 general elections, insisted: “PDP is now an aberration and a canker worm to both political and economy advancement of the country because of its failure to put Nigeria on a right tract but rather made looting and destruction of nation’s economy a priority for 16 years”.

Bamisile, an APC House of representatives candidate for Ekiti South Federal Constituency II, in the 2019 general elections, told journalists at Omuo Ekiti that it is an insult for PDP to wish to return to power.

“It is insulting and embarrassing for a party like PDP and its current elements to come around again and promising to reposition the country it had earlier destroyed through looting and bad leadership offered the people. And to crown it all, PDP is now promoting and canvassing votes for a former Nigerian vice president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, as its presidential Candidate against President Muhamadu Buhari.

“Nigerians could not have forgotten so easily how PDP basterdised the economy before the masses voted them out in 2015 general elections. Also, with the happenings within the rank and file of the party since then, it is crystal clear that nothing has changed for good within PDP but that it has become worse.

“There is no doubt that the coming general elections would also be another game of integrity and performance test, and the question will now be to compare a-four-year term of APC to a-16-year term of PDP in Nigeria.

“President Buhari had in the last three and years laid a solid structure for economic recovery and development with array of infrastructures cut across all the six geo-political zones.

“The difference is clear and axiomatic. Though PDP is coming to town with looted funds to confuse the electorate and create instability in polity, but we will not fold our arms to watch them to bring back destructive tendencies of the past into the current reformation strides of President Buhari.

“Election is not tea party things and that is why we are going for the general elections with all seriousness to guide against the intruders in their desperate attempt to deceive Nigerians through falsehood, prapaganda and cheap publicity stunt.

“Nigerians are now wise and more informed than before, so nobody can deceive or cajole them to fall into the trap of those who are out there to plung the country back to the days of share the money or diverting the nation revenues into personal or individual accounts even at the nose of the President.

“The last outing of the PDP in power remains not only a disaster, but catastrophe, holocaust and ruin that Nigerians will not forget so easily because of its repercussion which everybody has been battling with, up till now.

“Therefore, it is imperative and exigent for Nigerians to be wary of the antics, other clandestine and cloak-and-dagger moves by the PDP Agents to take them back to a journey of economy servitude and serfdom through carelessness looting and bad governance.

“The 2019 general elections will be a consolidation to the liberation of all Nigerians from the desert witnessed in 2015 to a fertile land that has been prepared by President Buhari in the last three and half years.”

Ex Head Of State, Gowon, Organizes Special National Prayer Service For Nigeria

Former Nigeria military Head of State, retired General Yakubu Gowon, has again, organized a Special National Prayer Service during which time he called on Nigerians to pray for the nation in order to have peace and prosperity restored.

The event, which was held today, Sunday at the headquarters of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Gbagada, Lagos, was attended by the representative of President Muhammadu Buhari, the General Superintendent of the Church, Pastor W.F. Kumuyi, church leaders and high ranking government officials.

In his speech at the event, Gowon, who is convener of Nigeria Prays Movement, said that Nigeria’s problems would be resolved through unrelenting prayers by the Church, rather than by citizens resorting to violence, retaliation and unforgiveness.

Gowon, who took his reading from 2 Chronicles 7: 14, urged the congregation to pray for the nation, saying that God is interested in the Nigerian situation at all times.

“The Church must provide a moral compass for the nation to make the people imbibe the fear of God and to follow righteousness.

“Brethren, it is important to remind us that the church is God’s House of Prayer. With the general elections coming ahead, it is natural for people to become anxious and fearful of what the future holds for Nigeria.

“In the light of the wanton killings in the land– be it politically motivated or instigated by the dark agents of insurgency like Boko Haram, armed herdsmen or rustlers, there is great need for us to come together to pray and intercede for our dear nation and its people.

“God’s solutions to the problems of this country are not in guns, retaliation or physical weapons but in prevailing prayers of the church.

“May I ask the people of Nigeria to embrace of the spirit of love, patriotism and commitment to the good of our nation, irrespective of political parties or religious affiliation or tribal differences.”

According to him, citizens of this country hold important role of maintaining peace and unity for the progress and prosperity of Nigeria.

He cautioned Christians against reprisal attacks, retaliation, vengeance and religious intolerance in the guise of self-defence.

“Whatsoever the provocation, whatsoever the threat, for the sake of our country, Nigerian Christians should never resort to retaliation that could lead to a religious war.

“I call on the authorities to provide the necessary physical protection for all. We must continue to demand for the government to be alive to its primary responsibilities of protecting lives and properties of poor citizens.’’

Dr. Gowon said that the mission of Nigeria Prays is to mobilize all Nigerians to offer prayers for the healing and transformation of the nation.

The general commended the host minister, Pastor William Kumuyi, for his love and commitment to nation growth and development.

In a message, President Buhari also commended Gowon and Kumuyi for their passionate love for national cohesion.

Buhari, whose message was read by his special adviser on media and publicity, Femi Adesina, said that love and commitment of Gowon and Kumuyi to the unity and cohesion of the country were unparalleled.

“Prayer is the right thing to do and the way to go. Nigeria is not a mistake. God that brought us this far won’t abandon us.

“It is right that we pray to God for the unity and prosperity of Nigeria. None of Nigeria’s challenges is greater than God. In God we trust and He will take us through the challenges.’’

Pastor Kumuyi, who spoke on “Divine Assurance When Nigerian Prays,” said that God will answer if His people, faced with national perplexity, could pray.

“Nigeria won’t disintegrate, we are just starting,’’ he assured his listeners in the live broadcast that was related globally.”

According to him, if God could turn around and show mercy to Nineveh, Egypt, Assyria and other countries as well as various individuals like Rahab in the Bible days, there is hope for Nigeria.

Where Reps Goofed On N5.8 Billion Intervention Fund And Osinbajo, By Chike Nwoko

Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo

In a season of partisan emotion, fair, objective reactions to matters in the public square have indeed become a strenuous undertaking. This is even more so when respected democratic institutions misjudge equally respected, elected senior citizens. But, perhaps, more importantly, democracy would lose its defining equality if it foreclosed or abridged the free exercise of democratic functions by relevant complimentary institutions.

Such was the case when, recently, the House of Representatives Committee on Emergency and Disaster Preparedness, at the instance of the Lower House, investigated an alleged “Violation of Public Trust in National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).”

In the course of this so-called investigation, His Excellency, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was blamed for authorizing the disbursement of N5.8 billion for food security intervention purposes in the troubled North-East region.

What was responsible for the beef by the Reps? The Lower House had alleged that a sum of N5, 865,671,939.26 (for emergency intervention on food security to the North-East to support the population ravaged by insurgency) was approved and released in June 2017, vide a memo raised from the Office of the Acting President, directing the Hon. Minister of Finance and the Accountant General of the Federation to so act.

The details, according to the report of the Committee, further specified a directive to the Governor of CBN from the Ministry of Finance to pay the sum from the Consolidated Revenue Fund Account for which the AGF was to raise a mandate. According to the Reps, this was in contravention of approval by the National Assembly on the issuance of Euro Bond from which the Hon. Minister authorized the payment, further holding that the Euro Bond was for specified infrastructural projects and not for discretionary intervention.

They further held that there was no specific appropriation by NASS in this connection and that it contravened Section 80 (4) of the 1999 Constitution as amended: which states: “No money shall be withdrawn from the Consolidated Revenue Fund or any other public fund of the Federation, except in the manner prescribed by the National Assembly.”

Significantly, the conclusion reached by the House of Reps Committee under focus is both false and misleading. Simply put, the Lower House goofed. Vice President Osinbajo, who assumed office after taking the oath of office on 29 May, 2015 at the Eagle Square, Abuja, is an erudite Professor of Law, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and a Senior Pastor of The Redeemed Christian Church of God to boot and needs pretty little tutoring on the finer points of constitutionalism.

The period at which the acting presidential intervention came was when Internally Displaced Persons and their host communities faced severe food shortages throughout the North East, as a result of successive poor harvests, abandoned farmlands, minimal cross-border cash crop trade and lost economic opportunities.

It could be recalled that the United Nations World Food Programme had on April 15, 2017 issued a warning that it would be reducing its support to about 1.8 million IDPs by as much as 85%, due to corresponding reduction in funding by the donor countries.

Further, at the same time, the United Nations Commission for Refugees in Geneva also warned of the growing risk of mass deaths from starvation among people living in the conflict areas. The Federal Government simply moved urgently to prevent the looming disaster by establishing a strategic food intervention plan for the affected States.

The Reps couldn’t have so quickly forgotten that a Presidential Committee on Emergency Food Delivery to the North East was convened and the Committee met on the 13th of May, 2017 to kick-off the process, with the then Acting President as Chairman.

Other members of the Committee included the Minister of Finance; Minister of Budget and National Planning; Minister of State for Budget and National Planning; Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development; Governor of Central Bank; Deputy Chief of Staff to the President; and the Senior Special Assistant in the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President.

Flowing from the deliberations of this and subsequent meetings, the approval referred to in the House Committee’s report was, in fact, based on a request raised by the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria as facilitator of the National Food Security Programme, via a letter dated May 25, 2017.

The said letter specifically clarified there was an immediate need to distribute grains, including rice, maize, soya beans and sorghum, to Internally Displaced Persons through the National Emergency Management Agency. The only way to obtain the quantity of grains required was to resort to the National Food Security Progamme earlier established by the Federal Government as a means of shoring up its strategic grain reserves.

The foregoing facts are not secret and are verifiable. It is a fact that during emergency situations, the Public Procurement Act supported such executive approval for fund without necessarily going through legislative vetting.

Moreover, the VP was Acting President when the matter under analysis transpired and had the full compliments of power to approve the fund meant for an emergency situation. It is an open secret that under the Public Procurement Act, there is a provision for such emergency spending. So, it is within the powers vested in the executive that was exercised by the then Acting President Osinbajo, in this case, to make the approval.

These facts simply rubbish the allegations of procedural infractions committed by the then Acting President in ordering the drawing of the approved funds from the nation’s consolidated revenue. Details of where the money was sourced from, when it was done, and who did it can be sourced from the Finance Minister.

In conclusion, the VP as Acting President had the full authority to approve the money in that (emergency) circumstance, and clearly, within the Nation’s laws. It is, therefore, pertinent to state here that Vice President Osinbajo continues to prove his diligence in exercising his duties, as the number two citizen of Nigeria, beyond a reasonable doubt and he clearly puts national interest first. He is a disciplined leader worthy of emulation by all aspiring leaders and shows exemplary respect to other democratic institutions.

As a watcher of socio-political and economic developments in our nation, this is my take on this issue and until I am convinced by very cogent and verifiable reasons to believe otherwise, the House of Reps and its Committee goofed.

Police Narrate How Terrorist IPOB Ambushed Police, Killed Officer: Vow To Prosecute Those Arrested

File Photo of police PRO, Jimoh Moshood addressing press

Nigerian Police have narrated how members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) who they described as an unlawful Terrorist organization, ambushed police men and officers at Nnewi in Imo State, killing an Inspector of Police, injuring the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and others.

The police vowed that several of the members of the group who were arrested at the scene of the incidence will be prosecuted in court.

According to a statement today, Sunday, by the Police Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, on 23rd November, there was intelligence report that the IPOB members were sighted gathering in their hundreds with dangerous weapons near Teaching Hospital, Owerri Road, Nnewi about to cause disturbance of Public Peace and public safety in the Nnewi and Environs.

He said that on the strength of such information, Police Patrol teams led by the Area Commander, Nnewi, ACP Nnanna Oji Ama mobilized to the scene to prevent them from causing breakdown of law and order and mayhem, and destruction of lives and property.

Jimoh said that the police team who proceeded to the scene came under ambush from the IPOB members and that in the process, a Police Inspector was killed, two other Police Officers were seriously injured and one Police Patrol vehicle was set ablaze, even as the proscribed IPOB members snatched and carted away two AK47 Rifles and one Beretta Pistol with ammunition. “The IPOB members subsequently attacked other innocent people on sight with machete and other dangerous weapons as they marched towards the Agboedo Market shouting “NO ELECTIONS WITHOUT REFERENDUM.”

“The Divisional Police Officer, Central Police Station (CPS), Nnewi, CSP Babalola Adewunyi, ASP Micheal Duru attached to Area Command, Nnewi and Inspector Akinbami Olaniyi attached to CPS Nnewi sustained serious injuries from the ambush by the proscribed/unlawful IPOB members. The injured Police personnel were rushed to the Hospital for medical attention where the Inspector later died, while the other Police personnel are currently under intensive care in the hospital.

“The Anambra State Command promptly deployed reinforcement from the State Headquarters comprising Anti-riot Police Mobile Force (PMF), Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), Police Anti-Bomb Squad/Explosive Ordinance Department (EOD), Special Anti-cult Unit Personnel and conventional Policemen who quelled the crisis, arrest some of the perpetrators  and restored peace and normalcy in Nnewi town and environs.”

The Police spokesman said that so far, 33 suspects have been arrested for the killing of the Police Inspector, inflicting injury on others and setting ablaze a Police patrol vehicle, adding that they are now in police custody and undergoing investigation.

He stressed that the Joint Police Intervention Force deployed are carrying out confidence building patrols and crime prevention operations to sustain the peace and normalcy that have been restored and to prevent any breakdown of law and order in the affected area and other parts of the State.

“The Inspector General of Police has directed the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State to carryout intense search operations for the recovery of the two (2) AK47 rifles and one Beretta Pistol with the ammunition snatched from the slain Police Inspector and other Police Officers wounded by the proscribed IPOB members, and should also immediately carryout an operation to rout-out and arrest other fleeing suspects (proscribed IPOB members) who participated in the ambush of the Police personnel and bring them to justice.

“The Nigeria Police Force is deeply concerned with the security implications with regards to the renewed hostilities from the proscribed/unlawful Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Anambra State and the new trend of subversive propaganda from the proscribed IPOB members aimed at undermining law and order in the affected State by the group, their associates, sponsors, apologists and sympathizers. The Force, therefore, will not tolerate this and will do everything within the ambit of the law to protect the people, ensure that law and order prevails and bring any perpetrator of violence and mayhem on the people or Police personnel to justice.

“The Commissioners of Police in the States contiguous to Anambra State and their supervisory Assistant Inspector Generals of Police, their personnel and Anti-riot equipment have been placed on red-alert by the Inspector General of Police to ensure utmost safety of lives and properties and deal decisively with any group(s) or individual(s) who attempt or cause disturbance of public peace and public safety in their respective States.

“The Force will continue to ensure adequate safety of lives and property of all Nigerians across the Country based on international core values and best practices and operate within the Principles of Democratic Policing, but will not succumb or tolerate criminal activities from any group(s) under any guise to cause disturbance of public peace and unleash mayhem on innocent Nigerians anywhere in the country.

“All the Thirty-three (33) suspects arrested and now in Police custody in connection with the killing of the Police Inspector, wounding of other police personnel, and setting ablaze of a police patrol vehicle in Nnewi, Anambra State on 23rd November, 2018 will all be arraigned in Court on completion of investigation under Terrorism Prevention Amendment Act 2013.

“Members of the Public in Nnewi and other parts of Anambra State are hereby implored to go about their lawful businesses without fear or apprehension as adequate security have been put in place for their safety. They are however enjoined to report any suspicion, unlawful assembly, and attempt or noticed disturbance of the peace in their locality to the Police through the following numbers; 07039194332, 08035078977. The Force is hereby informing the public that Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is a proscribed terrorist group and all activities of the group are therefore unlawful, illegal and terrorist act.”

Nigeria War Helicopters Pound Boko Haram Targets Over Attack On Military At Metele

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has responded with heavy airstrikes directed at Boko Haram  locations and vehicles after about one hundred soldiers were killed in a coordinated attack on a military base in Metele village of Guzamala Local Government Area, Borno State.

A top military intelligence officer said that the latest airstrikes have destroyed a convoy of vehicles linked to Boko Haram attackers involved in last week raid on the military base at Metele in Borno State.

The Boko Haram attackers had used rocket-propelled grenades, machine guns and AK47 rifles in raiding the military base where armored were vehicles were destroyed, and a number of officers and men of the Nigerian Army killed.

“The Nigerian air force is following the trail of the terrorists and has successfully destroyed about seven vehicles including gun truck and eliminated all the terrorists in the vehicles,” a military source said.

“The air force deployed the Mi-35M, multi-role combat helicopters which delivers a more superior flight performance with high-precision weaponry in destroying ground targets.

“Meanwhile, the aircraft also crossed the border into a neighboring country in hot pursuits where terrorists and stolen armored vehicles were destroyed.

“The airstrikes took place in Tumbun Rego, Kangarwa and Mainok. There were also similar attacks hours after the Sunday’s attack. We expect the Nigerian air force to release air strike footage soon.”

Meanwhile, indications have also emerged that most of the Boko Haram commanders and their foot soldiers who attacked the military base were none-Nigerians.

One of the intelligence officers confirmed that the attackers were speaking Arabic, French and some foreign languages, adding: “some of our soldiers who escaped after the rescue operation told us that the attackers dressed in military camouflage similar to the one wore by member countries of Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF).

“We learned that the attackers were not Nigerians as they spoke in Arabic, French and other strange languages when they first appeared like friendly force before they started to shoot at Nigerian troops.

“There is heightening suspicion that the deadliest attacks could not have taken place without collaborators probably within the military camp or the host community who could have been communicating with the terrorists before and after they stormed the locations.

“The military may likely engage in a tactical maneuver for forceful reinforcements of ground troops and air components in the affected areas in view of new developments.”
