Economic Revival: Father Mbaka Wants Buhari To Appoint Prof Soludo

The Spiritual Director of the Adoration Ministry in Enugu, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint Professor Chuwkuma Soludo to help in reviving the nation’s economy.

Mbaka, who was addressing his congregation at the adoration ground today, Saturday, said: “what will it take you; change the Chief of Staff, change B, change C, change this and change that; even if it will take 20 Igbo men or 20 Yoruba men to change Nigeria; take all of them. Look at what (Chukwuma) Soludo did in the Central Bank; he has assured Nigeria and the whole world that there is nothing like bank collapse again.

“An Igbo man did this, why can’t Buhari take Soludo for the economic revival and revamping of Nigeria’s economy? And you are busy talking about corruption, playing game with the lives of Nigerians from the issue of Fulani herdsmen to Boko Haram to Jos killings. You said somebody stole, what did he steal?

Mbaka said that Buhari had all the human and material resources at his disposal to make the country better but rather chose to play ethnic, despotic politics.

“Someday, they said the government has spent trillions of naira on social investment scheme and I want to know who are the people they were spending the money on; the Vice President said they are giving N10,000 to small scale businesses and I asked, is this how they will transform Nigeria? You give somebody N10,000 for business, what type of business will N10,000 start?”

Father Mbaka Describes Atiku As Bureau-De-Change, Says He Can’t Solve Nigeria’s Problems

Father Ejike Mbaka

The Spiritual Director of the Adoration Ministry Enugu Nigeria, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka has described former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as bureau de change because of the mindboggling foreign currencies that reportedly exchanged hands at the recently held National Convention of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), before he emerged the party’s presidential candidate.

Mbaka, who had in his new year eve message of 2015, predicted Buhari’s electoral victory over then President Goodluck Jonathan, said advised Nigerian politicians to seek God’s wisdom in their dealings, stressing that they struggled for power at all cost because they lack wisdom.

“Somebody will have billions and want to take the one belonging to the public while hunger will be killing his people. Look at the type of money they shared during the primaries to the extent that they brought Bureau de Change. They said Buhari is change, but Atiku is bureau de change. They were sharing the money in dollars and it was going out in millions of dollars in Nigeria where hunger is killing people; where you don’t have food to eat.

“If they spend such monies to get ticket, how do you think that when they get into power they will rule, of course, they will first recover the money they have spent but the worst is that the money was not being shared to the poor,” he lamented.

The priest expressed fears that Atiku may not be able to solve the problems of Nigeria if he emerged victorious, as according to him, the problems of the nation were so enormous and challenging.

“If anybody is thinking that if Atiku becomes the President of Nigeria things will get better, ‘who born you’ because for this country to be good it is easier for a carmel to pass through the eye of a needle than this country to be good,” he said, urging that Nigerians must do their part to make Nigeria the nation of their dream.

“There are no people that will develop this country that are not in Nigeria. We have people who will develop this nation; but our President left the same type of people who don’t have the same type of vision around him and everything they do is in your head.”

Engineer Hamman Tukur | Photo credit: NaijaNews

The champion of monetization policy in the public civil service, Engineer Hamman Tukur is dead. He died today, Saturday in Kaduna and has since been buried according to Islamic rites.

Tukur introduced monitisation through the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), which he presided over.

Before then, he was at various times, Rector of Kaduna Polytechnic, Managing Director of the defunct National Electricity Power Authority (NEPA), and permanent secretary at the federal ministries of power, steel, and petroleum.

He was appointed by President Olusegun Obasanjo in 1999 and led other members of the Commission in recommending and implementing the monetization policy of remuneration packages for political office holders in all tiers and arms of government. The policy drastically minimized public wastage of resources.

Though the Commission also recommended a new Revenue Allocation Formula that favored states and local governments, the Federal Government has nevertheless refused to submit it to the National Assembly for passage into law for implementation.

Born on January 24th, 1942 in Adamawa State, Engr. Tukur who attended various schools at home and abroad had a B. Sc in Physics and an M. Sc in Engineering.

He started his work career at Consolidated Tin Mines, Jos before moving to the academia as a Lecturer at Kaduna Polytechnic. He was Head of Department of Electrical/Electronics before he became the Rector of Kaduna Polytechnic.

From the academia, the Federal Government appointed him the Managing Director of the defunct National Electric Power Authority, NEPA; Director-General, Federal Ministry of Mines, Power and Steel and later Director-General, Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources.

Engr. Tukur was a Member, Institute of Strategic Studies, Kuru; Fellow Nigerian Society of Engineers; Fellow, Yaba College of Technology and Member, Institute of Electrical Engineers (England). He was also a recipient of Officer of the Federal Republic (OFR).

He left marks in the various places he served but it was in the RMAFC that his impact was most felt across the nation especially in resolving disputed oil swells among states in the Niger Delta region and the Commission’s close monitoring of sources of revenue to the Federation from oil and non-oil sectors resulting in significant improvement in accruals to the Federation Account.

Fani Kayode Lied, Nnamdi Kanu Didn’t Tell Him About Removing Buhari – Kanu’s Lawyer

Femi-Fani Kayode

Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, lawyer to the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu, has dismissed claims by the former Nigerian minister of aviation, Femi Fani Kayode that his client had indicated interest to work for the removal of President Muhammadu Buhari from office in next year’s general elections.

Reacting to Fani Kayode claim today, Saturday, that the controversial IPOB leader wanted by the Nigerian military authorities had given his word to work with like minds to remove President Buhari from office, Barrister Aloy Ejiofor said: “I want to make it clear to all that Nnamdi Kanu’s brief chat with Fani Kayode earlier today did not include anything close to agreeing to ‘work together with Fani Kayode to vote out Buhari’, as is being circulated on social media.

“On the contrary, Nnamdi Kanu wants all to know that IPOB remains solidly committed to Self Determination and Referendum; and is therefore not interested in any partisan politics of the moment. I urge all and sundry to take caution and be guided accordingly.”

The lawyer, in a Facebook post after Fani-Kayode’s tweet said: “as Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s Special Counsel, he’s been speaking with me from his location in Israel in the past few days.”

Nnamdi Kanu went missing sometime in September 2017 when the military raided his family home in Abia state in which scores of young people were allegedly killed.

Kanu and his group have been calling for a referendum to determine if the mainly Igbo speaking people in the South Eastern part want to remain part of Nigeria

Buhari Angry With Security Agents Aiding Oil Vandals In Niger Delta

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed his anger on some security agents that have been aiding oil vandals in Niger Delta, one of which caused pipeline explosion yesterday, Friday, in the Osisioma Ngwa community of Abia State, resulting in the death of many people, including some security agents.

The President lamented that despite repeated warnings, “those unscrupulous people have vandalized that particular pipeline 684 times in the last six months alone.

“Each time the pipeline is repaired, they resume their activities, even collaborating with security agents, who are reported to have set up toll gates collecting fees from the vandals.”

President Buhari, in a statement today, Saturday, by his senior special assistant on media and publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, recalled that a fight broke out as a heist was going on and there was shooting, which is believed to have ignited Friday morning’s explosion, during which three security personnel also lost their lives.”

The President advised the communities and state governments that host oil pipelines to be more vigilant and rise to combat the challenge posed by pipeline vandalism.

“The Enugu depot of the NNPC has been repaired and ready to function, but remains idle today because of the vandals.”

Buhari also appealed to host communities to collaborate with the NNPC to tame oil pipeline vandalism in their areas.

The President regretted the loss of lives and property in Osisioma explosion and sympathized with the victims.

President Buhari also condemned the latest communal violence in Kasuwan Magani in Kaduna State which claimed 55 lives.

Reacting to the violent clashes, President Buhari said the frequent resort to bloodshed by Nigerians over misunderstandings that can be resolved peacefully, is worrisome.

“No culture and religion support the disregard for the sanctity of life,” adding that “peaceful coexistence is necessary for the progress of any society and its wellbeing.”

He noted that without communal harmony, the environment for the conduct of everyday businesses would be impossible to achieve, adding that violence cannot be an alternative to peace.

“On the contrary, reliance on violence leads to ultimate self-destruction. Violence is an ill wind that blows nobody any good. Embracing peace is a necessity.”

He commended the Kaduna State government for its rapid response to the crisis, even as he appealed to community leaders to engage in regular dialogue to nip imminent crises in the bud, while admonishing the people to develop the spirit of tolerance and patience at all times.

Corruption: Reuters, Aljazeera, Others Query Emergence Of Atiku As Presidential Candidate

Alhaji Lai Muhammed

Reuters, Aljazeera, the Economists, AP, New African, African Business, African Review Magazines and other international media organizations have queried the emergence of the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar against the background of the war on corruption by the Muhammadu Buhari government.

The international media organizations were said to have raised questions as to why Atiku would emerge as presidential candidate, considering the anti corruption stance of President Buhari’s administration.

“One curious issue that kept occurring was that anytime I spoke about how we have waged war against corruption, the journalists kept asking me a question,” said the minister of information and culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who addressed the media organizations in London.

The minister said: “they asked me: How can you claim to have succeeded in waging war against corruption, when one of the major contestants in the 2019 general elections is actually a man with stupendous wealth but cannot explain the source of his wealth?.

“That baffled me a lot, because it mean that we are still being perceived as a country where corruption thrives.

“It was difficult for me to explain to them that yes, we are fighting corruption but these are the same people who have put this country where we are today and who are also trying to come back to power.”

The minister assured the media organizations that the issue they raised is the same that will define the task of choice of President by Nigerians in 2019 elections.

“The choice for Nigerians today is either they go back to the corrupt past where our commonwealth was shared by a few elites or move forward and continue with this new trajectory where the national resources are used for the benefit of all Nigerians.

“I explained to them that the 2019 elections have been defined, and the choice has been made easy. We are sure that Nigerians will choose rightly.”

NAN reports that the minister, during the visit, also delivered lecture in Chatham House, a UK based Royal Institute of International Affairs on the topic:, “Nigeria’s National Unity: Towards Participation and Shared Values”

Lai Mohammed also engaged with foreign and Commonwealth Office, All Party Parliamentary Group and Royal African Society, a body founded in 1990 to promote relations between the UK and Africa.

“As prayers heal the land, so do bad declarations bring hardship,” so said Aisha, wife of President Muhammadu Buhari at the 2018 Episcopal Harvest of the Anglican Communion at the Cathedral of Holy Trinity, Gwagwalada, Abuja today, Saturday.

Aisha Buhari who was honoured with Deborah Award by the Church said: “there is power in the spoken word, the power of life and death. Nigerians should therefore make positive declarations about their country.”

He confessed that Aisha’s hand of mercy had reached all Nigerians, irrespective of faith or ethnicity even as he advised her to continue the good work she is doing.

Ex-APC Chairman Akande Blames Military for Lopsided Political Structure

Bisi Akande

Former Interim National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bisi Akande, has carpeted successive military governments that ruled Nigeria for 29 years since independence, saying they created states and local governments by fiat for selfish reasons rather than through any scientific political reasoning.

This, according to him, has necessitated a restructuring of the country even as he lamented that the military might have inequitably created more local governments per population per state in the North than in the South, thereby giving the North an unfair advantage in revenue allocation from the national treasury.

Akande, who is also a former governor of Osun State, made the assertion in a paper on “Devolution of Powers and National Restructuring” which he delivered at the weekend at the APC-USA Second Annual Convention in Washington DC, United States of America where he was Special Guest of Honour.

He therefore called for restructuring, which he described as “equitable rearrangement and redistribution of the existing states and local governments per population within the various ethnic nationalities”.

Appropriate amendments to the country’s constitution, according to him, will be required to accommodate the various rearrangements and redistributions.

The former APC chairman, however, admitted it would be politically unwise to define the word equitable in such a way that it would be easy to convince those enjoying the unfair advantage at present to surrender such.

He said restructuring was a Herculean task for all Nigerians compared to the political change of power for which the APC was put together.

Akande said: “The North is a largely Hausa-speaking people traditionally mix-bred and assimilated with and governed by minority Fulani rulers through Islamic emirate system since two centuries ago. The North has been amalgamated with the South in-law and in fact since a century ago. And, presumably, the Fulani has been perceived to be manipulating the North to rule Nigeria since independence.

“Even if one does not like the minority Fulani rulers of the North for being hegemonic in characteristics, can one separate them from the original majority Hausa-speaking people of the same North? Unless one was ready for another civil war, could one ostracise the whole North in the political considerations of the country.”

He said it was within that context that some of them who were not ready to wait for another civil war to effect a geo-political restructuring of the country decided to go ahead with the APC arrangement, “while our opponents are left behind to assume a loud coarse noise on mere sloganeering-restructuring- without any clear definition or a peaceful workable strategy.”

The former APC chairman also said constitutional amendments or not, Nigerians have begun to see themselves as belonging to geo-political zones-North-western, North-eastern, North-central, South-western, South-eastern and South-southern zones-.

He said the South-west, on its own, had moved further to create a Development Agenda Commission for Western Nigeria, DAWN Commission, to conduct research to generate pieces of advisory information for the benefit of the each of the South-western state governments on integrated development programmes.

According to him, as a first step, the people of these South-western states are trying to key into the APC to back up the possibility of their governments to speak with one political voice, using one manifesto under one political party.

He recommended this initiative to other geo-political zones, saying it is an experiment worthy of encouragement and emulation for the strengthening of a federal political attitude towards physical and social development within each zone.
