Buhari Or Atiku: Gov Bindow Says Adamawa People Will Vote For ‘Reality’ Not ‘Promises’

Governor Mohammed Umar Jibrilla Bindow of Adamawa State has said that the the forthcoming Presidential contest between Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adamawa people will vote for realty rather than promises.

He admitted that Atiku as an Adamawa man winning the presidential ticket of a major opposition party is ‘a factor’ but that he as governor of the APC already had the candidate of his party and that Adamawa would always choose reality rather than promises.

Reacting to insinuations in some quarters that he is working for Atiku in the State, the governor, through his Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Mr Sajoh Ahmed, stressed that Buhari had done enough for Adamawa State since he became president to make the people prefer him to any other candidate.

He made it clear that his unreserved loyalty to President Buhari and support for his candidacy of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2019 presidential election remain unshakable.

The governor condemned what he described as a looming blackmail by elements who he said were planning to design a poster pairing him with Atiku who he said is presidential candidate of another party.

“Bindow is an APC governor working for APC and has no intention to support or canvass support for any presidential candidate outside APC. He has no support for any candidate other than Buhari.”

The Director of strategic communications, Buhari Campaign Organization, Festus Keyamo, has said that with the election of Atiku Abubakar as the Presidential candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the choices before Nigerians regarding the candidacy of President Buhari is very clear.

“Finally, in the history of elections in Nigeria, the choices before Nigerians have never been clearer than now: Nigerians would have to decide between a candidate with a history full of credibility crises, damning reports on corruption both home and abroad and another candidate, (the incumbent President) with an unblemished record in public service.”
In a statement today, Sunday, congratulating Atiku on his election at the Port Harcourt convention of the PDP, Keyamo reminded Nigerians that as much as Atiku has been claiming the credit for certain “achievements” during the tenure of President Obasanjo when he was Vice President, he must be prepared to accept joint liability for all that happened in that Government.

“Nigerians would also note with interest the verdict of Atiku’s former boss when he was Vice President on his credibility and integrity, calling him unprintable names at different occasions. “Nigerians would note that in all of these occasions, Atiku Abubakar had never defended these allegations against him by his former boss, but continues to court his support and cooperation. “Nigerians would want to know how candidate Atiku Abubakar intends to inspire a nation to believe in his ability to fight corruption in the face of very damning reports both locally and internationally concerning his records on corruption whilst he was in public service as a Customs Officer and later when he was Vice President of Nigeria.

“We note with amusement that on many occasions Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has tried to claim some credit for certain “achievements” during the tenure of President Obasanjo when he was Vice President because, according to him, he was “part of that Government.

“There were also media reports in the 2014 APC National Convention that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar freely used the same method of massive vote-buying in foreign currency, but he came a distant third. Till date, he has not denied those media reports. The claim therefore that the process that produce him now as a candidate of the PDP was free, fair and transparent is suspect. “It is therefore clear that going into this election the issues that will agitate the minds of Nigerians most would be centered around the credibility of the candidate of the opposition and the kind of values he brings into our politics.

“Nigerians would ask themselves whether he can be trusted with our national resources with this proclivity for “dollarising” the political arena, thereby taking us back to the warped values from which President Buhari is trying to extricate the nation. One wonders what such a candidate would do with public funds.

“Taking all the above into considerations, Nigerians would rightly ask whether a leopard can indeed change its skin despite all the sweet talk they expect to hear from the opposition candidate during the election.”

“We wish to congratulate His Excellency, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar on his emergence as the candidate of the PDP in respect of the forth-coming 2019 Presidential Election. However, we note with interest all the reports in the media as to massive vote-buying at the PDP primaries (especially with foreign currency).”

Calm Returns To Kuje In FCT After The Rage

Peace has returned to Kuje in the Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory after the violent crisis yesterday, Saturday in which a man was killed, police man and many civilians were injured and rushed to the hospital.

Report reaching us indicated that police and soldiers have taken positions in strategic places in the town.

It was gathered that no police man was killed in the riot which broke out yesterday, Saturday between Gbagy and Gade ethnic groups that claim ownership of the town.

However, it was confirmed that a police man who was brutally injured, along with many injured civilians have been referred from Kuje General Hospital to other hospitals in Gwagwalada and Garki.

It was learnt that the crisis arose as a result of complain by Gade ethnic group that for the past ten years, they have not occupied the position of chairmanship of the Area Council.

Buhari Praises Gov Ambode For Remaining In APC Despite Loss Of Governorship Primary

President Muhammadu Buhari has praised the governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State for remaining in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) despite the fact that he lost the party’s governorship primary in the State.

The President advised Nigerian politicians to learn from several aspirants like Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State “who despite his loss, didn’t abandon APC for another party because he was angry over the outcome of the gubernatorial primaries.’’

According to Buhari: “in every competition, someone has to win and someone has to lose, but those who lost should not abandon the party or lose their enthusiasm for the advancement of the party.”

The President, whose advice to APC aspirants for various elective posts that lost in the recent primaries of the party across the country, as captured by a statement by the Presidential spokesman, Malam Garba Shehu said: “the larger interest of our party is greater than our individual ambitions, and we should therefore work together for its success, despite our losses.’’

He stressed that in politics, “we shouldn’t lose hope permanently because tomorrow could present another opportunity for us to contest again and win.’’

He advised the losers of the primaries to always put the party first “because we are in it together to serve the country, and I am always proud of our members who demonstrate sportsmanship and a good party spirit.”

President Buhari also enjoined the winners to show grace in victory instead of mocking the losers, as such action is capable of destroying party unity and cohesion, adding that the tent is large enough for members.

“Those elected should see their positions as a public trust instead of abusing their mandates to amass personal wealth at the expense of the ordinary voters who voted them into power.’’

Guild Of Corporate Online Publishers Set For Its 2nd Annual Conference In Lagos

The Second Annual Conference of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) has been scheduled to hold at Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos State on Friday, October 19, with former Governor of Ogun State, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, as Chairman.

A statement by GOCOP’s Publicity Secretary, Olumide Iyanda, said that the theme of the conference is: “Online Publishers’ Role Towards A Sustainable Economy, Credible Election and Security in Nigeria.”

Speaking on the choice of the theme, President of GOCOP, Dotun Oladipo, said that the prevailing economic, political and security realities in Nigeria require keen interest from the media.

“With the 2019 general elections approaching, Nigerians deserve access to authentic news and views, which are best provided through digital platforms upon which GOCOP members operate.

“As an organized body of media practitioners, GOCOP is committed to ensuring that the use of fake news and misinformation do not destroy Nigeria’s political, economic and security progress, hence the need to look at the critical role of online publishers as entrusted to them by the Constitution.”

The statement said that Newspapers Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN), Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON), Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) and other stakeholder groups in the media will be represented at the conference.

It explained that GOCOP represents media organizations registered in Nigeria with promoters drawn from practitioners who have served at senior levels in the Journalism profession.

Favour Will Not Depart From You, Young Dancers Pray For Buhari

Young dancers, aged between 11 and 27 years, mostly orphans taken off the streets, and brought up at Explicit Home of Favour Initiative, Ibadan, Oyo State have offered special prayer for President Muhammadu Buhari.

Reacting to the President who hosted them to a breakfast outing at the Presidential Villa, Abuja today, Sunday, one of them, Abraham, in his 40s said: “I still feel this is a dream, and if it is, I don’t want to wake from it. Thanks sir, for being a father. Because you invited us to have breakfast with you, came down to our level, stood on the line with us to take your own meal, ate with us, favour will not depart from you.”

Executive Director of the group, Onoriede Florentina said at the occasion: “we are short of words. The President is not the way people describe him on social media. He is humorous, fatherly, and very warm. He sat with us, ate with us, and it takes a man with a heart of gold to identify with people like us.”

The young dancers were in Abuja to show their dancing prowess at the National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and were subsequently invited to a breakfast by President.

Explicit Dancers are young boys and girls who engage in vigorous and scintillating dancing to entertain their audiences.

President Buhari confessed to the young dancers: “I am very impressed with your performance. It must have taken a lot of discipline and training. To dance with such dexterity is fantastic. I congratulate you.”

The father of the home where the young dancers are raised is David Abraham, a graduate of Business Administration. His wife, Oluwakemi, serves as mother, and they jointly run the registered welfare home. They have two biological children of their own.

Fourteen members of the dance group were at the breakfast meeting, though the home currently has an enrolment of 56 people.

They had numbered up to 100 at a certain time, but 45 have graduated, 10 got married, and are pursuing their professional and domestic lives.

How and when was the home established?

“It was established in 2004. I love to dance, and I was dancing in church one day, when God told me that dancing is not enough. I was instructed to take orphans off the streets, and empower them,” Abraham said.

Explicit Home of Favour Initiative is funded from takings at dance appearances and freewill contributions.

Atiku Wins PDP Presidential Primary In Port Harcourt

Former Nigeria’s Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has emerged the Presidential candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), having won the Presidential primary election at the party’s national convention which began in Port Harcourt, capital of Rivers State yesterday, Saturday.

Atiku emerged winner with 1,532 votes to beat his closest rival, Aminu Tambuwal who is the current governor of Sokoto State. Tambuwal polled 693 votes even as the third place aspirant, Bukola Saraki, the current President of the Senate got 317.

The Chairman of the PDP Convention Committee and Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, announced the results of the primary today, Sunday morning.

Other results are, Jonah Jang, 19 votes; Datti Ahmed, 5 votes; David Mark , 35 votes; Tanimu Turaki, 65 votes; Sule Lamido, 96 votes; Attahiru Bafarawa, 48 votes; Ibrahim Dankwambo, 111 votes; Ahmed Makarfi, 74 votes and Rabiu Kwankwaso, 158 votes.

Man-U Pulls Up, Defeats Newcastle, Saves Mourinho’s Job

A 90th-minute winner from Alexis Sanchez, one of the major disappointments of this season, completed the comeback which should ease the pressure on Mourinho.

United were staring at a fifth straight game without a win, in all competitions, after Newcastle scored twice in the opening 10 minutes.

And although Mourinho’s side were chaotic and disjointed for much of their response, three goals in the final 20 minutes were a powerful response from a team that had looked on the ropes.

Newcastle took the lead in the seventh minute, opening up United’s defence with ease after Ayoze Perez found Kennedy and the Brazilian burst goal wards before calmly drilling past David De Gea.

Three minutes later the visitors doubled their lead with Japanese forward Yoshinori Muto wriggling clear of Ashley Young and firing home.

That was the first time in the Premier League era that United had conceded two goals, at home, in the opening 10 minutes of a game.

Mourinho made an early tactical substitution in the 19th minute, replacing French defender Eric Bailly with midfielder Juan Mata and sending young midfielder Scott McTominay into the defence.

If United’s defence was at sea, their attack was misfiring and Marcus Rashford missed a great chance to pull a goal back when he headed wide from six yards after a cross from Romelu Lukaku.

Muto went close to a third for Newcastle with a header which De Gea did well to keep out with a reflex save.

Mourinho made another switch at the break – taking off McTominay and bringing on Marouane Fellaini, with another midfielder Nemanja Matic asked to partner Chris Smalling at the back.

It was hard at times to work out exactly what United’s approach was, with Paul Pogba also sitting in a very deep role.

Although he did find the opportunity for a low drive in the 51st minute which was parried to Matic but the Serb somehow blasted over the bar.

Substitute Juan Mata got United back into the game in the 70th minute with a curling free kick. The goal seemed to inject the team with the confidence they had been lacking.

Anthony Martial equalised six minutes later, driving home after a clever exchange with Pogba and then another sub, Sanchez, rose to head home Young’s cross in the final minute of normal time.

The roars of delight from the Stretford End turned into chants of Mourinho’s name, an unlikely twist to the latest episode of the soap opera at the Theatre of Dreams.

Kaduna Central APC Kicks Out Senator Shehu Sani, Goes For Uba Sani

The Kaduna Central Senatorial District of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has kicked out embattled Senator Shehu Sani and gave the ticket to Uba Sani who is Special Adviser to Governor Nasiru el-Rufai on Political and Intergovernmental Affairs.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Uba Sani polled 2,088 votes to defeat incumbent Senator Shehu, who got 15 votes, and three other aspirants.

The APC Coordinator for the Kaduna Central Senatorial Zone, Professor Eddie Floyd-Igbo, declared the results of the primaries held at Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Sports Multipurpose Hall, Kaduna, yesterday, Saturday.

Professor Floyd-Igbo announced that one of the aspirants, Usman Ibrahim got 129 votes in the primaries.

He also said that Senator Sani Saleh, who served Kaduna Central people in the Senate from 2011 to 2015 got 55 votes.

Another contestant, Shamsudeen Shehu, got six votes, while 45 votes were declared invalid.

He said 2,383 voters were accredited from seven local government areas of the zone for the primary election.

This was coming after the APC National Working Committee (NWC) had cleared Senator Shehu Sani as the sole candidate in the race, which was resisted by the other aspirants and party loyalists in the state. Shehu Sani who is Chairman, Senate Committee on Domestic and Foreign Debts, had however, earlier announced his withdrawal from the primaries.

In a statement by his Media Aide, Abdulsamad Amadi, Senator Shehu said that the exercise was illegal, saying: “the Office of Senator Shehu Sani has not, and will not send anybody as their representative or agent to that illegality that some desperate people are organising.

“This is because the national leadership of the APC has not scheduled any senatorial primaries in Kaduna Central today.

“Consequently, anybody that goes there does so at his or her own freewill and does not in any way represent the interest of Senator Shehu Sani.

“The Senator and his team are law abiding citizens and loyal party members who will always obey the directives of the National leadership of our great party,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reminded all participants that it would only accept candidates forwarded to it by the national secretariats of the political parties.

The electoral body also gave the parties up till Oct. 7 to submit their candidates for the 2019 general elections.

We’ve Re-branded, Re-positioned, Waiting To Regain Power, PDP Chairman Boasts

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus, has boasted that the party has been re-branded, re-positioned and only just waiting to regain power by returning to Aso Rock in 2019.

In his opening address at the ongoing PDP’s Presidential primary in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, Secondus said: “I can, with gratitude to God and utmost humility, report to you that the PDP of today is improved, enhanced and has migrated from an opposition party to a ruling party in waiting.

“Our reformed package and our agenda, anchored on the three pillars of rebrand, reposition to regain, has been very successful, with the first two almost accomplished, while the last, regaining of power is also at the verge of being realized.”

The chairman who stressed that PDP is now poised for victory in 2019, said: “indeed, we have learned our lessons and by this convention, we are now set to forge a new path for our great party and Nigeria.

According to Secondus, the APC has progressively shown in all ramifications that it lacks the wherewithal to manage the country, citing what he described as failures in the areas of economy, graft and security.

He urged Nigerians to “take back your country” by electing the PDP into power in 2019.

The national chairman also promised Nigerians an all-inclusive government if the party’s presidential candidate is elected as president.
