Buhari Angry With International Collaborators For Promoting Corruption In Africa

President Muhammadu Buhari is not happy with those he called international collaborators that are promoting corruption in Africa, hiding in secret jurisdictions.

“It is still worrisome considering that billions of dollars, great talents and professionals are continually drained out of the continent through various corrupt activities thus causing poor investment inflows, undermining the rule of law, stifling trade, worsening macro-economic conditions and escalating level of poverty in our countries,” he said.

“These detestable practices are being perpetrated by some international collaborators hiding in secret jurisdictions.”

President Buhari, while addressing a High-Level Roundtable on Corruption, Migration, Bridging Africa’s Infrastructural Gap for Sustainable Development organised by NEPAD/APRM Nigeria on the margins of the 73rd United Nations General Assembly in New York, today, Friday, further expressed regret that huge amounts of funds are still being squirreled out of the continent.

He however, expressed delight that “efforts are being made by African leaders to ensure greater transparency and accountability in government business, fostering regional integration as well as creating enabling environment for our youth,” stressing that “these efforts will remain unabated, as African leaders will remain unrelenting.

“We must adopt laws, regulations and policies that encourage transparent financial transactions, youth and women’s empowerment programmes as well as establishing good infrastructural links among member states towards sanitizing the continent of these ills.”

President Buhari described the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) as a strategic framework document designed for the socio-economic development of Africa and a policy framework to address our economic and social challenges, even as he implored his colleagues to eradicate poverty; place African countries on a path of sustainable growth and development; halt the marginalization of Africa in the globalization process; enhance its full and beneficial integration into the global economy and; accelerate the empowerment of women and youth.

it said that while this action is to serve as deterrence to would be incorrigible individuals, the Prisons boss warned that “stiffer punishment awaits anyone found guilty of compromising standards and good conduct expected of a Correction Officer.”

Oyetola Of APC Beats Adeleke Of PDP By 482 Votes To Clinch Osun Governorship

Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola

Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged the governor of Osun State after beating his closest rival, Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a re-run election that was conducted yesterday, Thursday.

While Oyetola got a total vote of 255,505 Adeleke got 255,023, a difference of 482 votes. The candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Iyiola Omisore, who aligned with Oyetola few hours to the election also got 128,053 votes.

The chief returning officer for the election, Professor Joseph Adeola Fuwape, vice chancellor Federal University of Technology, Akure, declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress the winner early Friday morning.

However, the PDP candidate has described the election as a charade and said that he has rejected its outcome.

“We report to the whole world the brazen theft and daylight swindling of Osun people who were criminally denied their rights to vote and be voted for by an anti-people conspiracy among INEC, security agencies and the ruling All Progressive Congress, the PDP in Osun state said in a statement.

”An unprecedented travesty of justice and the shattering of democratic values are ongoing in Osun state.

“The whole world is witnessing a charade in the name of an election, a deliberate effort at the imposition of a discredited leadership on the suffering people of Osun State through undisguised brutal force, applying all standards, today’s supplementary poll is a non-event as all norms of electoral process were violated.

“Voters are deliberately refused access to polling points at gun points. Those allowed to voting centres are forced to vote for APC.PDP party agents are arrested, beaten up and shut out of polling centres.PDP agents are barred from many units. Roads are blocked to stop voters and observers.

‘Journalists and election monitors are blocked from accessing many voting areas. Those who attempted gaining access are attacked by hooded thugs.PDP leaders are hounded and arrested. It was a brutal unleashing of force against unarmed election stakeholders.

But the ruling party, in a statement by its by Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy in Osun, Kunle Oyatomi, denied claims by Senator Adeleke that there were irregularities during the rerun election.

According to him, PDP was lamenting over its inability to buy votes and manipulate like they did during the first election last Saturday.

He noted that PDP party agents were absent because the police thwarted their plot of buying and trying to use the PVCs of unsuspecting voters.

The statement reads: “We have always known and have made ourselves clear before the election that the PDP had made elaborate arrangement to rig the election through the manipulation of the card readers.

“And it was this process that made them get the votes allocated to them in the first ballot.

“We like Osun people to understand that the run off votes went the way it did because the PDP was unable to manipulate the card readers this time around and fortunately the police thwarted their plot of buying and trying to use the PVCs of unsuspecting voters.

“That was why some of their leaders were arrested. So the PDP should look for other excuses.

“They attempted to win by fraud, they failed in the first round and eventually lost the rerun election,’’ Oyatomi said.

He also commended Governor Rauf Aregbesola for delivering good democratic dividends, which transformed the state, adding that the governor-elect, Oyetola, would build on the legacies of the former.

Oyatomi also commended INEC for its display of professionalism and the security agencies for ensuring the election was peaceful.

He, however, urged the people of the state to support the incoming governor in achieving the mandate of making Osun greater than its present status.

Adeleke had in a statement in Osogbo by his campaign organisation’s spokesperson, Mr Olawale Rasheed, rejected the result of the rerun poll, adding that he would seek legal redress

Communication Minister, Adebayo Shittu

The Minister of Communication in the Muhammadu Buhari government, Barrister Adebayo Shittu, has been disqualified as governorship aspirant by the screening committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to information reaching us, Shittu was disqualified because he failed to participate in the mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme after his graduation from university.

In a list of all aspirants cleared to participate in the primary election slated for tomorrow, Saturday, according to the APC’s spokesperson, Yekini Nabena, the name of Shittu was clearly missing.

Also conspicuously missing is the name of the minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Aisha Alhassan who put in as aspirant for Taraba State.

The list simply presented Aisha Alhassan as “Not Cleared.”

Kwankwaso Promises Free Education For Nigerians If He Becomes President

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former Kano governor and presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in has promised to give all Nigerians free education from primary to tertiary level if he becomes president.

“Free education will be my priority just like it was in Kano. As governor, I sponsored more than 1000 students to the best schools in Nigeria and abroad; I want to replicate that, if elected.”

Kwankwaso, who spoke yesterday, Thursday in Jos, during a consultation visit to the North-Central state, promised to run an all-inclusive government, a leadership virtue he accused the APC administration of lacking.

“A key solution to Nigeria’s problems is a participatory government that will ward off mutual suspicion and distrust. It will address the gap in communication which is largely responsible for farmer/herder clashes, religious violence and ethnic crisis in the country. ”

Kwankwaso accused the current government of failing to eradicate hunger and unemployment, and regretted that there were no jobs for the youths.

He promised to pay special attention to  infrastructure, security and education, if elected,  and promised to build roads and bridges to ease movements.

Late Gani Fawehinmi’s NCP Has No Funds To Conduct Presidential Primary

The National Conscience Party (NCP), formed by late legal luminary and human rights activist, Gani Fawehinmi has lamented that it has no funds to conduct its presidential primary earlier scheduled for between tomorrow, September 28 and 30.

The Publicity Secretary of the party, Okereke Emmanuel, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), yesterday, Thursday in Lagos that the primary has been postponed due to lack of funds to financed the meeting, adding that in the past, it was its founder, late Fawehinmi, that was its main sponsor.

He said that after his death, members had been contributing to carry out the party’s activities.

“The presidential primary scheduled for this weekend (Sept. 28 and 30) had been postponed due to lack of funds. Delegates coming are to be given money, but there is no money for all these logistics.”

This is even as the South-South and South-East zonal chapters of the NCP have called on its National Chairman, Tanko Yunusa, to step-down ahead of the party’s presidential primaries.

A statement by the two NCP deputy national chairmen in the zones, Goodluck Obi and Pastor Peters Omoragbon, said the call became necessary since Tanko Yinusa is also a presidential aspirant.

The NCP chieftains are also requesting for complete review/reversal of the “exorbitant nomination fees’’ for all aspirants seeking elective offices.

However Emmanuel said that the two men, (Obi and Omoragbon) have no authority to demand for anything in the party as they were no longer recognised leaders of their zones.

“As far as we are concerned, they demanded for the national chairman to step-down before presidential primaries, there is nowhere in NCP constitution that demands for resignation.

“The founder of the party, Late Chief Gani Fawehinmi, contested for presidency while he was the national chairman.

“Some people requested him to step-down, but late Chief Fawehinmi said if there is any provision for such in the party’s constitution, as a law abiding person, he will step-down.”
