The immediate past Secretary to the Government of the Federation(SGF), David Babachir has disclosed that he is now doing better and earning more money than when he was in office.
Babachir, who was sacked last year following an allegation of corruption, and said that in spite of the situation that surrounded his leaving office, he had no regret.
“Let me shock you: before I came into government, I have been in business. I was a very successful businessman. “I am a world renowned IT consultant and I have a very large farm, spanning over 1,000 hectares, which I abandoned to join governance.
“I was earning N930, 000 monthly as the SGF, now that I have returned to my farm and reactivated it after my sack, I now have 4,000 hectares under cultivation. “Last year, I earned close to half a billion naira from my farm proceeds. I have a cattle ranch that I am developing gradually and I am back to IT consultancy, life is now good. ”
Babachir, who was speaking to newsmen for the first time since he left office, said that everybody who saw him now, complimented him, saying that he is looking good and healthy. He said that his sack from office opened his eyes to a lot of things that were hidden from him.
According to him, , a lot of people he helped in the past were actually the ones that planned his downfall. Referring to the scripture, the former SGF said; “everything that happened to a man is for his own good; my sack I would say, is rather a blessing in disguise.
“Let me tell you, nothing happened to me. Right from the beginning of the saga, I knew that the whole thing was fabricated and that was why I did not give any damn from the beginning. “The reason some people don’t like me is because I am so confident of myself.
Did you hear me defend myself that time? I didn’t do it and I will not do it because I know that they are fabricated. ” Babachir said that he had however, forgiven all those who wanted his downfall, adding:”forgiveness is my number one principle because I want to make heaven.”
He debunked insinuations that he nominated Boss Mustapha, the incumbent SGF, saying: “he is however my brother and I cannot deny him” Source: NAN.
The New World Wealth and AfrAsia Bank has rated Nigeria as the wealthiest in West Africa, estimating that the total wealth held in the country as at December 2017 amounted to US$253 billion. In a report, the bank said that Nigeria came third among the wealthiest in Africa after South Africa and Egypt, saying that major sectors in the country include: basic materials, real estate & construction, telecoms, transport and financial services. The report covers wealth, luxury, prime property and wealth management trends in Africa from 2007 to 2017, with projections to 2027. The report also said Nigeria performed poorly in wealth growth in 2017. The report says larger countries obviously have an advantage due to their higher populations. Nigeria’s poor performance in 2017 is attributable to: Loss of local currency value vs US dollar. Drop in local real estate prices in US dollar terms. Outgoing migration of HNWIs (High Net Worth Individual) (The report estimate that around 900 HNWIs left Nigeria in 2017). Most went to the UK, the US, France, Switzerland, the UAE and South Africa. Safety concerns in the country, which have deterred investment and discouraged wealthy people from staying in the country. In particular, woman safety is an issue in the North of the country. Note: “Total wealth” refers to the private wealth held by all the individuals living in each country. It includesall their assets (property, cash, equities, business interests) less any liabilities. The report exclude government funds from the figures. According to the report: Wealth growth trends Total wealth held in Africa has risen by 13% over the past 10 years (2007 to 2017) and by 3% over the past year (2017). Mauritius was the top performing individual market during both of these periods. Ethiopia also performed well, although it should be noted that it started from a very low base, which makes growth easier – average wealth in Ethiopia is currently at around US$700 per person which is still quite low despite recent growth, the report revealed. 10 year growth forecasts (2017 to 2027): Total private wealth held in Africa is expected to rise by 34% over the next 10 years, reaching US$3.1 trillion by the end of 2027. We expect Mauritius, Ghana, Rwanda and Uganda to be the strongest performing wealth markets in Africa during this period (90% to 150% growth rates). Our projections for Ethiopia, Mozambique, Zambia, Kenya, Botswana and Namibia are also relatively solid (50% to 80% growth rates). Our projections for South Africa, Angola, Morocco, Egypt, Ivory Coast, Tanzania and Nigeria are less favorable, but still positive (10% to 30% growth rates). Total individual wealth held on the continent amounts to US$2.3 trillion. Around US$920 billion (40%) of this is held by HNWIs. The average African individual has net assets of approximately US$2,000 (wealth per capita). There are approximately 148,000 HNWIs living in Africa, each with net assets of US$1 million or more. There are approximately 7,100 multi-millionaires living in Africa, each with net assets of US$10 million or more. There are approximately 320 centi-millionaires living in Africa, each with net assets of US$100 million or more. There are 24 billionaires living in Africa, each with net assets of US$1 billion or more. The Inspector General of Police ( IGP ), Ibrahim Idris has directed that court summons and other processes issued by a court in Abuja in relation to a criminal complaint brought against the Senate President, Bukola Saraki be served on him. The police boss is said to have detailed a unit within the Nigeria Police Force’s Legal Department, Force headquarters, Abuja to ensure the prompt delivery of the court processes on Saraki before the next date, October 3 this year. A lawyer, E. S. Marcus, disclosed this development today, Monday at the resumed proceedings in a criminal complaint made against Saraki by an Abuja-based lawyer and rights activist, Oluwatosin Ojaomo, in relation to the ongoing investigation by the police into the April 5, 2018 bank robbery incident in Offa, Kwara State. In the complaint marked: CR/196/2018, filed under Section 89(5) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015, Ojaomo argued that Saraki’s alleged refusal to honour an invitation allegedly sent to him by the police, in relation to the Offa robbery investigation, amounted to the offences of “obstructing a criminal investigation and disobeying a public officer carrying out a lawful responsibility.” The judge handling the case at the Grade 1 Area Court, Aco Estate, Lugbe, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, Justice Abdullahi Garuba Ogbede had, on September 10 this year, ordered the issuance of summons on the IGP following Saraki’s absence in court when the case, in which he (Saraki) is listed as the sole defendant, was called. The judge had summoned the IGP to attend court on September 17 to show cause why Saraki was absent in court and what efforts he had made to ensure his appearance. But, Marcus, who is Ojaomo’s lawyer, told the court that although the IGP and Saraki were absent in court, he was informed by a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in the Legal Unit of the Nigeria Police Force, identified as Mahmoud that the IGP has directed a unit to ensure the delivery of all processes in relation to the case on Saraki. “The defendant is not in court. At the last date, the court issued a witness summons on the IGP to come and show cause why the police failed to effect service of the criminal summons, warrant of arrest and other processes on the defendant. “The witness summons was served on the Nigeria Police Force by the court’s registry. “However, we received a call from DSP Mahmoud of the Legal Department of the Nigeria Police Force headquarters, that the matter has been assigned by the IGP to a particular unit of the NPF to effect the service of the summons on the defendant and arrest him.” Marcus urged the court to grant a short adjournment to enable the police effect service of the processes on the defendant. Justice Ogbede acceded to Marcus’ request and adjourned the case to October 3. The criminal complaint by Ojaomo reads: “Criminal complaint brought pursuant to Section 89(5) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015. Please, cause a summons for a direct criminal complaint on the defendant on the following terms: “That you, Dr. Bukola Saraki, on or about the 24th day of July 2018 within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, did refuse to honour the invitation of the Inspector General of the Nigeria Police Force to report at the police headquarters in FCT, Abuja to answer to an allegation involving the investigation of some criminal suspects involved in a case which the Nigeria Police Force is currently investigating, thereby obstructing a criminal investigation and disobeying a public officer carrying out a lawful responsibility . “You thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 136 and 149 of the Penal Code Law. Whereas, the complainant is praying the court to charge the defendant accordingly.” Ordinarily, the service of the processes on Saraki ought to be effected by the complainant, but Marcus explained that when his client could not serve the defendant as ordered by the court, he applied, under Section 122 of the ACJA, to the IGP to help effect service on the defendant. He said the IGP was required, under the law, to either produce the defendant in court or attend court to explain why the defendant was absent, a position that informed the court’s September 10 order on the IGP.
President Buhari received Gov Bello at the State House Abuja, today.
Governor Yahaya Bello was at the Presidential villa today, Monday to brief President Muhammadu Buhari on the havoc caused by floods to no fewer than 10 towns and villages in his state due to torrential rain that triggered floods. He told the President that the flood forced thousands of families to leave their homes and now at the Internally Displaced camps set up by the state. Governor Yahaha Bello who sought the intervention of the President over the issue, lamented that most parts of the states are now under water. “As usual I came to brief Mr. President on situation report and the happenings in my state periodically. I am sure you are all aware of the flood problem that is happening all over the country and Kogi is worst hit being the confluence state, confluence of the two rivers. “So, we are worst hit and I needed to come and present the report to him myself. Even though I sincerely appreciate Mr President for deploying relevant agencies like NEMA (National Emergency Management Agency) and all the security agencies to come to our aid. “As I speak to you, NEMA is on their way to Lokoja to access the level of damage and we received substantial amount of relief materials so far, it is not enough. I need to present the report to him as well and also to tell him about the security of the state and how we are doing. “We are doing very well and I thank all the security agencies who have been assisting us to make sure we curb insecurity in the state. Do these are the issues that brought me to come and explain to Mr. President.” On what has been done to tackle the situation so far, Bello said, “We experience this periodically. 2012, we were worst hit, we are praying that the situation will not exceed that this year. “We are normally proactive to sensitize the people and evacuate them to high ground. We have created over 33 camps in Kogi State. As I speak with you, between nine to ten local governments are under water, you can imagine the pressure on our resources. “So, we are doing our best in collaboration with federal agencies and security agencies to make sure that we evacuate them to high grounds, IDP camps and provide security to them and relief materials including medicals.”
The Saudi Arabia, under monarchical governance, has proved one important point to the world: that the convergence of democracy and any other form of government is in the welfare and happiness of the governed.
Yes, democracy is embedded in the dictum of government of the people, by the people and for the people, only to the extent that leaders who discharge the tenet for the welfare and happiness of the rest of the people have the fear of God. The operating word, of course, is the fear of God, without which it becomes meaningless.
And this is where the Saudi Arabia comes in. It is a country that is governed through a family lineage, but, it is a country with leaders who rule with the fear of God; leaders who are always guided by the realization that they will someday, meet a superior being, the creator, to whom they will give account of how they touch the lives of the people they led, and are so guided.
These are the facts that dominated my though when on August 17 this year, the coordinator of the International Communications Centre (ICC), formed to welcome and attend to the visiting international journalists for 2018 pilgrimage, Sheikh Faheem H. Alhamid took about 80 of us, from no fewer than 25 countries, on a working tour of one of the maximum prisons in Saudi Arabia, located in Jeddah, a commercial city of the country.
To start with, the prison is not addressed as ‘prison’ but as Mohammed Bin Naif Counseling and Care Centre, whereas the prisoners are addressed as Beneficiaries. As a matter of fact, every other thing around the prison is fashioned in a way to take the minds of the occupants from the fact that they are prisoners. What about allowing them to receive visitors from outside; what about, wait for it; allowing their wives to visit them and for them to spend three to four nights with the wives in ‘private chalets’ with well-laid bed and beddings, refrigerator stocked with variety of drinks, etc?
Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud
The occupants are allowed to socialize with one another, watch television, read newspapers, play games, open bank accounts, visit relations and practice whatever profession they choose among other things.
When we thought it was all over after touring the centre, which is almost a city on its own, we were taken to what should be called nothing less than a specialist hospital in the centre. The medical facilities and state-of-the-art equipment in the hospital can only be compared, if at all they are comparable, to the best specialist hospital in Nigeria. No exaggeration please!
This is an institution that is not only equipped with the best drugs and medicines one can think of, but has nearly all the departments, including standard dialysis with highly qualified medical and administrative personnel on call 24 hours. To think that this is a prison!
The Mohammed Bin Naif Centre, established in 2004 and started operation in 2007, is mainly for reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration of religious hard-liners, extremists, religious bigots, terrorists and those with perverted idea of Islam. It is a correctional institution that deals with correcting thoughts according to specialized scientific systematical ways of relying on the Islamic Shari’ah and human principle.
The would-be beneficiary, who shows the trait of perverted religious ideologies is usually scooped from the communities and taken to the centre from where qualified psychologists take him round various psychological intellectual rehabilitation and promotion.
The mission of the centre is captured thus: “Intellectual rehabilitation and promotion of the national affiliation of those who have fallen into extreme and radical through specialized scientific and practical programmes and contribute to efforts to prevent society from deviant ideas.” And the vision of the centre is: “Pioneering in the processes of intellectual treatment, which is strengthened to the national security system in accordance with the Islamic perspective and humanitarian principles.”
Sheikh Faheem
The reformation of the beneficiaries begin with an introduction to arts, which the Saudi government sees as part of the process of rehabilitation, beginning with what is known as Track Definition.
Track is said to be a psychologically and socially guided rehabilitative treatment course for the beneficiaries, using art, with the beneficiaries going through various art processes, such as painting, clay, printing, holographic configuration and even manual imaginative and skill processes. These are aimed at bringing about intellectual, psychological, social, skills and self-change.
The government believes in the heritage of practice of art which is inherent in the sense of freedom, recreation, relaxation, self-focus, the opportunity for privacy and other characteristics.
The counseling programme concept and mechanism take the form of public advice outside the prison, made up of lectures, seminars, scientific meetings; dialogue with families of the beneficiaries, electronic advice through internet and others. There are also religious, psychological, social, art therapies, economic and political programmes. Other programmes are on culture, sport and recreation, services; hospital services with the main contents as health services, laundry, cleaning and phone call services; visits and vacations.
Above all these, the government, through the centre, provides aftercare programme, which is a set of programme that offers to the beneficiaries after graduating from the centre. They are such things as health, social, educational, job and financial aids.
There is the family care programme aimed at strengthening the role of the family to bear its social responsibility towards its child (the beneficiary) and contribute to the preservation of his intellectual and behavioural integrity.
Provision is made for financial assistance to beneficiaries who have successfully passed through all the courses on reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration. The financial assistance are meant to make them not only useful citizens of the country, but respected members of the society that are fully accepted by both the families and the larger society.
Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Nigeria, Adnan
The practice of treating even society’s nuisances, such as religious bigots and other criminals with kid’s gloves stands out Saudi Arabia as one country that has willingly promoted human rights beyond ordinary, without compulsion or the niceties about democracy or lack of it.
Like the coordinator of the ICC, Sheikh Faheem said, the government has always believed that every human being is born free and, whatever he or she later does in life should not be used as excuse to deny such human being his or her right to at least, a minimum of decent living.
According to him, the equality with which God created all human beings need not be compromised on the altar of class differences, even though, some do develop unacceptable characters in the process of growing and mingling with others like them. What such social misfits and defiants need is correction through counseling and reformation, he said.
From the way Saudi Arabian authorities handle their bad people, it is safe to infer therefore, that the government has the belief that human being, no matter how far he has gone astray, can be reformed and made decent members of the society without oppressive antics. That has been working well for the country, to a point where every citizen feels safe in the hands of the leaders, and of the next door neighbors.
Such society, at the risk of sounding immodest, can be said to be at peace with itself, its citizens and the neighbours.

Fuji music living legend K1 De Ultimate has described the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki as a fraud for circulating video claiming that he is supporting his presidential ambition.
The music legend, who reacted to the video making the rounds about his endorsement of Saraki, said that he is highly disappointed that someone like the senate president can be involved in such a fraud.
He stressed that the only person he is rooting for to become the president in 2019 is no other than President Mohammadu Buhari.
“This he has shown by telling the world where his loyalty belongs at every occasion lately. K1 has also on countless occasion granted interviews to several media organizations that he is for Buhari till 2023.”
According to the Fuji king, the only time he had an encounter with the senate president was at the marriage ceremony of Mohammed Mustapha’s son in Ilorin in 2015. So, he has no right to circulate any song without his approval; doing so amounts to fraud.
K1 said he is already talking with his lawyers to seek redress on the matter.
He is also using this medium to sound it clear that he will never ever endorse someone who has acted as a betrayal to his party right from when he assumed the office till the time he left the party for the opposition.
‘I remain a strong party member and the only person I support to become the president in 2019 is Muhammadu Buhari.”
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has praised the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, for returning to the party thereby joining well-meaning Nigerians to support its mission to rescue the nation.
In a statement, the PDP’s spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, described Dogara as a patriotic leader who has demonstrated his statesmanship and commitment to the progress of the nation, during this trying time.
Ologbondiyan said that Speaker Dogara’s move was reflective of the wishes and aspirations of his larger constituency and in tandem with the determination of Nigerians across board to rally on the platform of the repositioned PDP to vote out the ‘’incompetent and divisive’’ APC administration, which had caused untold harm to the nation in the last three years.
He said that Dogara has continued to conduct the affairs of the House of Representatives with the highest level of commitment, resulting in a very productive legislature under his leadership, in spite of the unmitigated efforts by the presidency and the APC to distract him.
“The return of Dogara and other leaders who had earlier left our fold is a clear testament that the issues that led to their exit in the first place have all been addressed under the repositioned and rebranded PDP.”
Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose has told the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that he is not afraid of what will happen to him after he leaves office.
Reacting to EFCC’s application to place him on a watch list, Governor Fayose described the commission as being petty.
A tweet via his handle read: “@officialEFCC putting my name on watch list after notification of my coming is not only political but petty. I’m not among those who are afraid to face tomorrow. Nobody is God. They should expect me on October 16, 2018. I will remain in PDP not minding their intimidation.”
Former Nigeria Military Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, has assured Senate President, Bukola Saraki of his total support in his bid to become President in the 2019 election.
“I commend you, you have my support for these three reasons you have itemised and I hope the people will listen to you. It is my turn to do what your father did to me.”
Babangida who spoke today, Sunday when Saraki visited him in Minna, Niger State capital as part of his nationwide campaign tour for the forthcoming Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) convention, said that he would treat the presidential aspirant as his own son and ensure that he succeed in his ambition
“I will rightly observe that you are my son, for coming to pay a courtesy visit. I remember when I was still in office, I spoke with your father, Oloye Saraki who was always providing advises on a number of things attached to this country.
“He always made himself available to me, to give advises and encouragement which will move the country forward.
“Your visit today is historical, now it is your time and turn to come to me and I will do just that.”
“You mentioned three things that are very dear to us as military, and we fought to get them to preserve them.
“They are unity of the country, the security of lives and the economic development.
“The security of the people and their well being of the ordinary man are the right objectives for campaign and leadership for this country.”
President Muhammadu Buhari has sent a sympathy message to President Donald Trump and the American people over the devastating effects of Hurricane Florence currently ravaging some parts of the United States.
A statement by his spokesman, Garba Shehu, quoted President Buhari as expressing deep anguish to the victims on the disruptions which violent winds and rains caused.
“The world is so interconnected by our common humanity that the impact of a tragedy in one country can be felt by others thousands of miles away.”
“As the victims of this natural disaster struggle to pick up the pieces of their lives and count their losses, I send the deepest and sincerest sympathies of my family, the government and people of Nigeria to President Trump and the American people over this sad event.
“Our hearts and prayers go out to the victims at this difficult time in their lives.”
President Buhari was also quoted as commiserating with the government and people of Sudan over the reported landslide disaster in the country that has, so far, claimed tens of lives.
Buhari expressed regrets over the loss of lives on behalf of his family, the government and people of Nigeria even as he assured them that the thoughts and prayers of Nigerians are with the families and friends of bereaved Sudanese who are in sorrow as a result of the tragic landslide.
