August 18 Date With Mali’s Djoliba FC: Enyimba Will Conquer – Coach

Coach Sidi-Usman Abd’Allah of Enyimba International FC of Aba has expressed the confidence that his team would conquer the Djoliba Athletic Club of Mali in the CAF Confederation Cup scheduled for August 18.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Nigeria’s Enyimba will have to turn the tide in their favour as they battle for a spot in the knockout stage of the competition.

The Aba Elephants, who slipped from the top of Group C table after a disappointing 0-2 loss away to Williamsville AC of Côte d’ Ivoire, now find themselves in the third spot with six points from four games.

Williamsville with seven points replaced Enyimba at the top of the table after their victory, while CARA Brazzaville of Congo also with six points are on the second position albeit with a superior goal difference.

Enyimba’s next opponents, Djoliba with four points currently lie at the bottom of the table.

The two-time CAF Champions League winners must now ensure that they win their remaining two matches against Djibola and CARA Brazzaville respectively to stand any chance of advancing to the next round.

They are away to Djoliba of Mali on Aug. 18 and end their group campaign at home against CARA Brazzaville on Aug. 28.

Abd’Allah, the club’s first assistant coach, who took over the reigns of the club from Paul Aigbogun, told NAN that he believed his boys were ready for the challenges ahead.

He noted that his team were conversant with their opponents’ formation and tactics having played them at home, adding however, that it would be a different ball game as the Malians play in front of their home crowd.

“We have to start working hard and immediately remove the memories of our last defeat by winning our next two matches and booking our ticket to the knockout phase of the competition.

“But first, we want to solely focus on our next game, which is against our Malian counterparts.

“It won’t be an easy match as our opponents have a lot of experience, especially playing in front of their home fans, but I believe we can come out good having defeated the same team 2-0 earlier on Match Day One.

“The Bamako-based team always like to take control of the midfield, stringing a lot of good passes together in an effort to wear their opponents down and can also be dangerous going forward.

“However, my players know what is at stake, so everybody is going to prepare hard. Our response to our last defeat has to be emphatic and swift. We need to begin to produce positive results, starting from August 18.

“We have to convert our chances and also improve on our overall quality in every department of the team as we look forward to a good performance in Mali,” he said.

We’re Happy To ‘Donate’ Akpabio To APC – PDP BoT Chair

Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Walid Jibril has said that the party was happy “donating ” the former senate minority leader, Godswill Akpabio to the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Reacting to the defection of senator Akpabio to APC today, Wednesday, Senator Walid agreed that it was his right to decamp to another party but that there are competent hands in the party to take over from him.

According to him, in view of the exemplary conduct of the acting president in response to the siege on the national assembly, the party is ready to let go of Akpabio.

“The recent attempt to tamper with the legitimate function of the National Assembly by selfish individuals who attempted to block the Assembly should be condemned and appropriate action taken against the intruders.

“In this respect, the Acting President Osinbajo should be praised for taking a decision to do away with the DSS boss, promising that the situation will be further investigated.

“The purported resignation of our minority Leader, Godwill Akpabio is also an act of Democracy.

“Therefore, considering the recent action taken by Acting President Osinbajo, the PDP is happy to donate Senator Godwill Akpabio to APC through him with great pleasure, as we have many PDP Senators to do that job which has been upgraded to majority leader.

“On behalf of the BOT, we wish Akpabio bye-bye and safe journey, advising him to learn from history, especially from those that left us and are now returning in troops.” [myad]

We’ll Bounce Back, Falconets Coach Promises As They Face Haiti

Coach of the Nigeria’s youth female national team, Falconets, Godwin Izilien has vowed that the team will bounce back from its loss to Germany in the opening match of the FIFA U–20 Women’s World Cup, by defeating Haiti team tomorrow, Thursday.

Izilien, who has in the past handled Nigeria’s female senior team, Super Falcons and under-17 boys squad, Golden Eaglets, said that what he saw from Coach Chris Danjuma’s side against Germany gave him confidence that Falconets will bounce back to winning ways.

Having reached the final in 2010 and 2014, Izilien charged the team to rise from Monday’s defeat by Germany and win their remaining group games against Haiti and China.

He posited that the Falconets would be out of contention for the second round if they failed to beat Haiti.

Izilien also called on the team’s technical crew to work on the tactically organisation and shooting ability of the Falconets to ensure they utilise all chances they create in games.

He noted that the Falconets gave Germany a good fight, but lost focus in the middle of the second half, which gave their opponents advantage to slot in a goal.

Izilien therefore tasked the girls to go all out for victory against Haiti, saying that picking the vital three points in the game would put the girls in high spirit to win the final group game against China.

“The Falconets could not deliver against Germany because the team’s main striker did not get enough support up front.

“The German girls were not spectacular in the game, but they capitalized on a minute’s loss of focus in the second half to score.

“The girls need more encouragement to go far in the championship. I think the coaches would have seen the mistakes in the team and corrected them before their next game against Haiti.

“They need to be more resilient and tactically disciplined in all departments of the game to earn the vital three points in the encounter.” [myad]

Former Governor of Abia State and chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Orji Uzo Kalu has accused politicians who are desperate to win the 2019 elections on a platter of public sympathy of responsible for the siege on the National Assembly by men and officers of the Department of State Security (DSS) on Tuesday.

Kalu wrote: “Its funny to insinuate that what transpired at the NASS was a siege on democracy. It was nothing but a scripted act by power hungry political elites who have vowed to win election on a platter of public sympathy rather than credibility.

“They have failed in all efforts to dent and discredit the efforts of Mr. President.

“They have lost every atom of credibility thus resulting to feasting on the Intellect of an average Nigerian who could be “emotional thinkers” in order to whip up public sympathy and support.

“It has absolutely nothing to do with our democracy or the masses neither did such order come from the Presidency.
