Youths Stone Dino Melaye In His Kogi West Constituency

Dino

Youths in Kabba, yesterday, Saturday, stoned the Senator representing the Kogi West Senatorial District for which Kabba is part, the controversial Dino Melaye.

Senator Melaye was said to have arrived at the venue of the 2017 annual Kabba Day celebration and observed the celebration in peace, along with other dignitaries.

Eye witness account said that the Senator was first ushered into the venue of the occasion by his supporters, who hailed him when he entered the Kabba Township Stadium, venue of the event.

It was gathered that trouble started when he made to leave the venue at the end of the occasion, when the youths began by jeering and attacking him.

The angry youths were said to have followed him outside the stadium, stoning his car and the cars in his convoy. The cars were hurriedly driven away from the venue.

The youths alleged that the Senator had not been representing the Senatorial District well in the National Assembly, but that he has been busy fighting the leaders who are helping them at home.

The Senator escaped unhurt but the windscreens of a vehicle in his convoy were smashed by the angry youths. [myad]

Oshiomhole Calls Those Floating Posters About His 2019 Ambition ‘Mischief Makers’

oshiomhole Spits fire

Former Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has described some faceless people who have been floating posters about his ambition to contest Senatorial election in 2019 as ‘mischief makers.’

A statement by his media aide, Victor Oshioke, said that Oshiomhole has no hand in the campaign material, even as he said: “the posters and the message it convey should be disregarded as the handiwork of mischief makers who have nothing better to do than engulf themselves in an obsessive pastime of speculation.”

He said that  the said poster which created an impression that a “Committee of Friends” is campaigning for Comrade Oshiomhole to run for a senate seat in 2019, is not true.

“Curiously, the poster does not include information on the senatorial district for which he is being solicited to run. Our investigations have revealed that this poster did not emanate from any known friends of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole or anyone remotely connected to him.”

The statement said that since leaving office as governor, the former labour leader at no time discussed running for any other office with anyone.

“He is as surprised as anyone else about the emergence of these online posters.

“We therefore wish to inform the general public that Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and his known friends have nothing to do with the posters in circulation.” [myad]

Man Runs Away From Wife Who Gives Birth Yearly Due To Too Much Sex

Divorced

A 39-year old man, identified as Daniel (surname withheld) is believed to have ran away from his resident in Ejigbo, Lagos from his 34 years old wife, Ihuoma, 34, for constantly demanding sex, resulting in giving birth every year.

The man was said to have relocated to an undisclosed location in Ogun State without informing his family, including their eight children.

The man was said to have married the woman about nine years ago and they already have eight children and live in a 1 bedroom apartment from where the man fled.

Trouble was said to have started after Dan who was a scrap dealer, began to feel the pains of having many children with little income.

He reportedly claimed that hardly a night passed without his wife crying and begging him for sex, and he usually succumbed to such demands which resulted in frequent pregnancies. The neighbour said that it was such demands that made Ihuoma to get pregnant again in 2016 and put to bed a set of twins which increased the number to eight children. [myad]

Presidency Scorns Business Day Newspaper For Publishing Falsehood Against Buhari’s Govt

Femi Adesina 3The Presidency has wondered why a publication of the status of Business Day newspaper would embark on publishing falsehood against President Muhammadu Buhari’s government and doing so with full shoddiness to possibly create a particular perception.
In a statement today, Saturday, reacting to two-page write up in the Business Day newspaper, detailing how 80 out of the 100 appointments Buhari’s government has so far made are from the Northern part of the country, the Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, drew attention to how, in a haste to villify the government, the author of the falsehood named the Director-General of NISER, as Haruna Yerima, whereas the DG, is actually Folarin Gbadebo-Smith.
“Again, the author wrongly identified the CEO, NDLEA as Muhammad Abdallah. However, Mrs. Roli Bode-George is the CEO, NDLEA.
“The article also wrongly named Tunde Irukera as Executive Secretary of CPP,-whatever that is- instead of Consumer Protection Council (CPC). Rather conveniently, the publication ignored mentioning that Mr Emeka Nwankpa is chairman of CPC. Not only that, the writer claimed that the Director-General of the Budget Office is Aliyu Gusau, whereas Mr. Ben Akabueze is the actual DG, Budget Office.
“Besides, the publication made not just one, but several errors on names and positions, in what could be seen as a deliberate attempt to mislead the reading public, along the lines of some intended distortions of the truth.
“For example, there are several other appointments the publication failed to mention, which clearly shows the fair geopolitical spread of President Buhari’s appointees. For instance, the publication didn’t mention Sharon Ikeazor, Director-General, PTAD, who is from Anambra, South East; Folorunsho Coker, DG, NTDC; who is from Lagos, South West; Ituah Ighodalo, of the National Council of Privatisation, who is from the South South; Eze Duru Ihioma, Chairman, NPC, who is from Imo, South East, among many others.
“There are at least 50 names of the President’s appointees that the article didn’t mention that are not from the North, while there are some others that were already in place before the administration came in but reconfirmed by the Buhari administration.”
Femi Adesina said there are several names of board members/appointees from other parts of the country which the newspaper deliberately left out. “These include Senator Olabiyi Durojaiye, NCC Chairman, Sunday Dare, NCC Executive Commissioner, Jide Zeitlin, NSIA Chairman, Anthony Ayine, Auditor General of the Federation, Anibor Kragha, COO NNPC, Chiedu Ugbo, MD NDPHC, Uche Orji, CEO NSIA, Osita Okechukwu, DG VON, Yemi Kale, DG NBS and Waziri Adio, Executive Secretary NEITI, among several others.”
The Presidential spokesman, attached a graph to show the breakdown of current Federal Government agency appointments per state, reflecting the true picture of the spread.
He said that the newspaper’s inconsistencies and selective reportage are questionable, describing it as divisive, adding that what Nigerians need now are unity and constructive dialogue that would help the nation march forward on the right path.
Femi Adesina stressed that it is false for anyone to say that President Buhari’s appointments are lopsided, saying that from all records, majority of the President’s appointees across different portfolios are not from the North, as the publication erroneously alleged.
“If the publication did not have ulterior motives, a simple enquiry from official sources in the Presidency would have prevented this unwarranted public disinformation.
“It must be stated clearly that, despite the distractions and biased reportage of this article, President Muhammadu Buhari remains committed to serving all Nigerians, no matter the tribe, ethnicity or region, and he is also determined to ensure that Nigeria remains strong and united. He has, and will continue to keep faith with one Nigeria and has shown this with the administration’s diverse projects in different parts of the country’s geopolitical zones.” [myad]

Buhari: Just Like The Mills Of The Gods, By Femi Adesina

Buhari23There is a saying bequeathed to mankind by the Greek physician/philosopher, Sextus Empiricus, who lived in Alexandria and Athens in the 3rd Century. It goes thus: “The mills of the gods grind slowly, but they grind exceedingly fine.”
What does this mean in everyday language? Justice may be slow, but it will come eventually. And for those who pray, it also means that God may not answer your petition immediately you make it, but He will eventually respond-at His own time. The vision is for an appointed time, and it will not delay. But if it tarries, wait for it. For it will surely come. The priest who shouts at God is being unnecessarily impatient and petulant. God will do what He will do-at His own time.
From the human perspective, Empiricus may have had President Muhammadu Buhari in mind, when he coined the saying about the mills of the gods. With our President, there is no rush on some issues, if they demand temporizing and being painstaking. The mills of the gods must be allowed to grind, if slowly, but exceedingly finely.
From his time as military leader, Nigerians who were of age then would recall that the then Major General Buhari often said; “this administration will not be rushed…” And truly, for the 20 months that the regime lasted, things were done with calm sure-footedness, and not at the dizzying speed that some people would have wanted. Easy does it. They stumble that run too fast. “Patience is the companion of wisdom,” according to Saint Augustine, the cleric.
And did the regime succeed? It did. It was on the road to forging a new Nigeria, where probity, accountability and discipline reign supreme, before a spanner was thrown in the works. Fifth columnists struck, and aborted our march to Canaan, a land flowing with milk and honey.
Buhari was in limbo for many years. But in 2015, majority of Nigerians remembered what he had brought on the table between January 1984 and August 1985. So, overwhelmingly, they voted for him. And today, he is President.
Yes, President Buhari has changed in many ways. He was an autocrat, now he is a democrat. Then, he adjudged you guilty, slammed you in Kirikiri prisons, and asked you to prove your innocence. Today, if he suspects that you are corrupt, he does nothing to you, till he can prove that you are guilty. That is the way of democracy.
But something fundamental has not changed in the man’s style. The mills of the gods still grind slowly. There are some decisions President Buhari will not take in a hurry. He will chew on the matter, digest it properly, and then come out with his position. There is no stampeding him, no setting of fire to his heels. The mills of the gods grind slowly, but they grind exceedingly finely.
On Monday, this week, the Engr Babachir David Lawal and Amb. Ayo Oke saga came to a denouement. The duo had been accused of some unsavoury acts, and sent on suspension in April, this year. A panel was constituted to look into the allegations against them, with a two weeks time frame.
A day before the report of the panel was to be submitted, President Buhari had to travel abroad on the second leg of a medical vacation. He was away till August 19.
In this period, some impatient Nigerians were totally restive. They even besieged the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, urging him to act on the report of the panel. They wanted to turn the man into jury and judge, discountenancing the fact that he had chaired the panel that conducted the probe.
When President Buhari mercifully returned on August 19, his plane had barely touched down, when the impatient people began to ask for the report of the Osinbajo panel. “The two most powerful warriors are patience and time,” wrote Leo Tolstoy. But such people would have none of it. They called for an immediate decision on the lingering saga.
On August 23, VP Osinbajo submitted the report, in six hefty volumes. Of course, there was an executive summary, as best practices would demand. And the noise continued from some quarters. We want action on the submitted report, and we want it NOW. They forget that “patience is not simply the ability to wait, it’s how we behave while we are waiting” (says the preacher, Joyce Meyer). And they also forget the mills of the gods, which grind slowly, but exceedingly finely.
They went forward to accuse the President of treating Nigerians with contempt. With scorn. Derision. Flippancy. Levity. They would rather justice had been miscarried, as long as the urge for blood was satiated. They would rather the President had played to the gallery, swinging the sword and decapitating everyone in sight, not minding whether they were innocent or guilty. Such people were like the mob in Julius Caesar, the work by William Shakespeare. They met Cinna the poet on the way, and accused him of being Cinna the conspirator, one of those who had murdered the emperor. Cinna explained that he was a poet, but they would not listen. They screamed: whether you are Cinna the poet, or Cinna the conspirator, Cinna is Cinna. You are a sinner, and must die. They killed him. And to justify the evil act, they rationalized that he was a poet that wrote bad verses. Good grief!
President Buhari took his time. If you know the man, he must have gone through the six bulky reports with a magnifying glass, a fine tooth-comb. Better that 100 criminals escape, than kill a single innocent man unjustly.
And finally, on Monday “come finally comes to become” (apologies to the late K.O Mbadiwe). The President communicated his decision to the country, which was acceptance of the recommendation to terminate the appointments of the two men who had been investigated.. A large number of Nigerians were relieved that a closure was being put to the saga. But trust those who had murmured and grumbled. They refused to be pacified. They are the type that when you answer their niggling question successfully, they change the question again. They came with many other queries: should the matter have taken so long? Was the matter not to be swept under the carpet, if we had not raised hell? Why were the two men not summarily handed over to the security agencies for prosecution? But if the President had taken the last option, and had directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to pull in the two men, they would have said: Enhen, we always said it. He was tele guiding the EFCC from behind all these while. Now he has shown his hands. The hand of Jacob, and the voice of Esau.
Head or tail, you can never win with some Nigerians. If you don’t have your bath, they say you are a ruffian, and you stink. If you have your bath too frequently, they say you love the opposite sex too much. No wonder some people say public service is a thankless job. If only we would change our mindsets, and also change our conduct.
But some people forget. Early in the days of this administration, President Buhari had told them: “Some people call me ‘Baba Go Slow.’ I will be slow, but I will be steady.” Isn’t there eternal truth again in the saying that slow and steady wins the race?
There are some matters that require speed. They should be treated expeditiously. No doubt. There are some others in which you could sacrifice fairness and justice on the altar of speed. When you have such, it is better to err on the side of caution. It is better to lay all the cards on the table, consider all the sides of the coin. Such was the Babachir/Oke saga.. They were men who had served the President faithfully, from what one could see. He dare not be precipitate in determining their destinies. Fair is fair, and foul is foul.
Talking again of the mills of the gods. The National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held at the party’s secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday. I was there. The atmosphere was friendly, almost convivial. At a point, someone moved a motion of confidence in the Buhari administration. The seconder, a former state governor, added to the motion, seeking an endorsement of the President as candidate for second term in 2019. As he raised the motion, I saw the President gesturing, with his two palms downwards. The gesture meant, please, cool down, not now. This is premature. And the National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, weighed in, accepting the motion of confidence, and deferring the one on automatic candidacy. Everyone was satisfied.
You can imagine my consternation the next day, when I saw the newspaper headlines.. It was as if some of them were reporting a meeting held in outer space. They said a bid by governors to get automatic ticket for the President had failed. One newspaper exulted: “Govs’ bid to get automatic 2019 ticket for Buhari fails.’ Pure fiction. Concocted story. It never happened the way the newspaper had conjured. And it was the President himself who had dissuaded those who made the move, by his gesture. Hate news seems to have crept into the polity, and otherwise credible newspapers have eaten the forbidden apple.
Well, we were talking about the need for patience. Jean-Jacques Rousseau says “Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet.” And Robert Schuller adds: “Wait. Be patient. The storm will pass. The spring will come.” That is where I pitch my tent. Under President Buhari, for Nigeria, the storm will pass (and is, indeed, passing), and the spring will come. The mills of the gods grind slowly, but exceedingly finely. I believe. What about you?

My Late Son Was Highly Intelligent, With Vibrant Personality, Asiwaju Tinubu Sobs

The national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has described his first son, Kazeem Olajide Babajide Tinubu, who died on Tuesday in Lagos, as a highly intelligent and a vibrant personality.
He said: “my son was a highly intelligent person with a vibrant personality and a zest for life. “He followed his own course and made his own way on his own terms. Those who knew him could not help but like him. Yet, he was taken away by cardiac arrest when it seemed he had so much life to still live.
“I wish I could bring my son back but I cannot. However, what I can do is to be more caring and helpful to the living as I know this is what Jide would want to become of his passing. “Let us all take a lesson from this and think a bit more about our fellow man, our neighbors, our fellow Nigerians. Let us live as we were meant to live with each other in greater peace, compassion and love. If only this can happen, I know my son will be happy.”
Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who thanked President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the leadership of his party and National Assembly as well as all those who demonstrated their sympathy and expressed their condolences to the family, said that the death of Jide, who was born on October 12th 1980, was a reminder that we must live each day to its best as none of us know when our last day shall be.
According to him, mortality comes upon us all, adding that we have no choice in that but we do have a choice whether we shall be good or bad, just or unjust.
“Let us all strive toward the best in ourselves.”
The APC leader, who was attending the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the party when Jide died, said that his deceased first son lived for so long in London and there he has left behind a darling wife and three precious boys.
“My wife Remi and I have gone to London to be with them at this painful time to support and help them. Please excuse our absence from Lagos for a while but it is essential that we are with them.
“Prayers are being offered and will continue to be offered for the repose of his soul. I have suffered a grave loss that no parent would like to bear.
“As a father, I must spend time putting my arms around the family he has left behind.
“We must seek a lesson in every loss. Your reaction to my son’s passing has taught me that we can be a people of profound love and humanity when we want to be. People of every tribe, region, faith and every political affiliation have expressed their sympathy and extended to me the embrace of a brother or sister.
“Even those who don’t agree with me politically have shown strong support and care indistinguishable from that of my associates. This says so much about the innate goodness in all of us.
“For no matter what, we are not foes or enemies. We are all of one human stock, a single nation, one family.
“Again, as we are away from Lagos, we thank you for the love you have shown and ask that you not only show it to us but to each other. Please continue to pray for him wherever you are.”[myad]

Kogi Gov Attributes Recent Killings To Boko Haram Returnees: Frowns At Labour Leaders’ Misinformation

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello
Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has attributed the recent killings in the State Central Senatorial Area to the presence of the Boko Haram returnees, even as he expressed worry about utterances credited to the leadership of organised Labour in the state, suggesting that the killings were carried out by his government to silence the voice of Labour for opposing his government.
“Simply put, they have insinuated that this Government may have something to do with his death. They have also gone ahead to posit that their lives are not safe as Labour leaders.
“I am aghast at this manner of thinking. Nothing could be further from the truth, and the leadership of Labour knows this.”
Governor Yahaya Bello, in a statement he personally signed, reacting to what he called “triple murder” in Kogi Central Senatorial District, said: “over and beyond the general tight security measures we have always maintained all over Kogi State, we also paid closer attention to the Kogi Central Senatorial District in the provision of security infrastructure. This is because of known security challenges plaguing the the zone for many years now. The presence of Boko Haram returnees and other hardline elements is a particularly worrisome phenomenon.”
He regretted the killing of three persons in the District this week, listing the victims as Abdulganiyu Aduki, an artisan who was killed around 7:30pm on Tuesday, 31st October, 2017 at Nagazi in Adavi Local Government Area, adding that his wife and daughter were also shot during the incidence and are currently hospitalised due to their injuries.
There were also Mallam Abdulmumin Yaqub and his friend, Mallam Ibrahim Otaru, who were gunned down at Ozuwaya quarters in Bariki Ward of Okene Local Government Area around 7pmon Wednesday, 1st November, 2017.
The governor said that from the information available to him, the brazen manner in which these cruel killings were carried out indicates that they were premeditated assassinations executed for the express purpose of taking the lives of the deceased persons.
“There was also a clear intention to kill any hapless person who happens to be present at the time of the attack.”
He said that he had since directed the Police and other security agencies to track down the killers, adding that the law enforcement agencies are now on their trail “and I have put the full support of my Administration at their disposal. I promise Kogites that we will leave no stone unturned till we find and decisively put these cowardly criminals out of business in the manners prescribed by law.”
On the accusation by the labour leaders, Governor Yahaya Bello recalled that this is not the first time that Labour in Kogi State has capitalised on horrendous tragedies which befell some of our citizens to malign the Administration in the most malicious way.
According to him, in the last three weeks alone, they have been quick to lay three tragedies at the door of his government.
They were, he said, the suicide of a senior Civil Servant, the death of a family’s daughter from sickle cell anaemia disease and now the killing of Mallam Yaqub by yet unidentified assassins, saying that in all three instances, the true stories have surfaced a short while later contradicting their Labour in key details.
“Sadly, even when refuted, they have not been as quick to find the needed forthrightness to offer their regrets for accusing us falsely, or to apologise to the families they have hurt.
“Nevertheless, let me assure Labour leaders that they have nothing to fear. Government is not after them. I am not after them. On the contrary, Government remains responsible for the security of their lives and properties, along with those of all other citizens of this great state. It is a responsibility which even they know that we take very very seriously indeed.
“I therefore call on the Labour Leaders again today to be more circumspect with the sensational statements in the media, if for nothing else, to minimise the potential for fear and mischief mongering. As they ought to know, in our society these sort of unguarded comments should not be made by people like them who are leaders in their own rights.
“Let me put it on record again that my Administration has no choice but to work for the welfare of both our Civil Servants and our people as a whole. It is in fact the reason for which we were entrusted with this mandate, and why we are undertaking some difficult but necessary reforms across all sectors, including the public sector. Despite the unexpected resistance from some surprising quarters, the benefits of these reforms are also becoming evident to all objective persons with each passing day. Payment of salaries, which is the primary issue at stake now is being tackled head-on even as I speak. Non-payment should become a distant memory soon to Kogi State Civil Servants. Government is always ready to work together with willing partners to succeed in this regard.
“‘The world we are experiencing today is the result of our collective efforts, and if we want a new world, each of us must start taking responsibility for helping to create it.’ –Rosemary Rhea.
“In conclusion, Government calls for information from the general public which can help the law enforcement agencies speed up the arrest of those who killed these citizens. In addition, we hereby offer a reward of N1m to anyone who provides information leading to their capture. I urge anyone with useful information to call our Toll Free Security Hotline 0705 889 0048 immediately. Utmost confidentiality is guaranteed.”[myad]

Presidency Frowns At Aso Villa Journalists For Being Fictitious In Report On Whispers At FEC

Mallam Garba Shehu
Mallam Garba Shehu

The Presidency has expressed worry over the fictitious report that was featured prominently in the media about what it said, was whispers between the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari and Head of Service, Winifred Oyo-Ita shortly before the Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting began.
In a statement, the senior special assistant to the President on media and publicity, Malam Garba Shehu today, Friday, wondered how possible it was for a conversation between the President’s Chief of Staff and the Head of Service of the Federation to be heard by any journalist, “as the distance between the State House correspondents and the two government officials was far. The two addressed the Vice President at Wednesday’s FEC meeting.”

He explained that the conversation between the top government officials at the FEC Chamber was “completely inaudible to the journalists.”
Garba Shehu said that it was not abnormal for people to debate and argue over issues, but that to suggest that there was a feud, a fight or a clash was to take matters beyond what they were.
The Presidential spokesman described media reports of a fight between the top government officials as fabrications that could only have been conjured by correspondents “who would probably make better fiction writers than journalists.
“By tradition, the media organizations send their best reporters to the State House. This should reflect, at all times on the quality of reporting.
“I am a journalist myself, and in journalism, you are not supposed to report anything other than the facts of what you heard or observed directly, or what you were told by a firsthand or authoritative eyewitness. You cannot add two and two to make twenty-two and present it to the public as news.”
Garba Shehu made it clear that the two government officials were never summoned by the President over the alleged skirmish, saying that such conclusion was yet another example of conjecture.
“Top government officials of that calibre see the President on a regular basis. To suggest that they were summoned to see him as a result of a so-called feud is just a fabrication, a conclusion that is below the level of responsible journalism that we expect from our State House correspondents.”[myad]

I Followed Instructions Of Ex President Jonathan In All My Official Dealings – Dasuki

Jonathan and DasukiThe Immediate past National Security Adviser, retired Colonel Sambo Dasuki has said that in all his dealings in office, he followed the instructions and orders of President Goodluck Jonathan to whom he said, he was answerable.
Dasuki, who gave evidence today, Friday, at Federal High Court in Abuja, in the trial of former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisah Metuh on alleged N400 million corruption charges brought against by government, said he followed due processes in all transaction by his office.
He insisted that he did not commit any unlawful transaction with Metuh as NSA, adding that he would not be able to give evidence on documents that were not authenticated by his records.
He insisted that he needed to consult records to give meaningful and cogent evidence.
Led in evidence by Metuh’s lawyer, Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu, Dasuki said that he had never entered into any unlawful transaction with Ex-PDP spokesperson while he was in the office, adding that as the NSA, he was in charge of collating security issues and reporting to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as demanded by the law that established the Office of the Office of NSA.
Answering a question, Dasuki said that he had never been convicted by any court of law for whatever offence in his life, saying that the Muhammadu Buhari’s Federal Government had succeeded only in convicting him in the court of public opinion even when his own side of the story had not been heard as demanded by the Constitution of the Federal Republic Nigeria.
“I have being maligned and convicted in the court of public opinion by my traducers against the usual judicial process through court trials.”
Under cross examination by counsel to the Economic and Finacial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Sylvanus Tahir, Dasuki maintained that he carried out the functions of the NSA diligently to the satisfaction of the nation and the former President Jonathan who appointed him to the office.
He said that as the man in charge of national security, he was only answerable to the President of the Federal Republic Nigeria on matters bothering on security issues generally.
The trial was adjourned to December.[myad]
