Femi Adesina 3

“The return of the President has nothing to do with the protest. It is about continuing with the work he started.”

Police has announced the arrest of five people who have been posing as Journalists and using their easy access to dignitaries to steal cellphones and other valuables.

The police said that the suspects were arrested in different states of the Federation namely: Ogun, Edo, Abuja and Kano States and that various exhibits were recovered from them.

A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Jimoh O. Moshood, said that the house built in Kano State from the huge foreign currencies the gang leader stole during a wedding of a very important personality last year in Abuja has been identified.

He said that the suspects have confessed to the crime and admitted to the various criminal roles they played in the commission of the offence.

“The suspects confessed further that they specialize in impersonating as Journalists in order to gain access into venues of VIPs events/occasions to steal Handsets, Money and defraud high profile persons and unsuspecting members of the public at the venues of events in major cities in the country.”

Jimoh Mooshood said that the Inspector General of Police’s Intelligence Response Team trailed and arrested the suspects after complaints of stolen phones from important personalities who attended a prominent wedding in Abeokuta, Ogun State on the 8th July, 2017.

The police spokesman named the suspects as Musa Auwalu (Gang Leader), age 43, from Nasarawa local government area in Kano state; Kolawole Akinbode, age 50, from Ogun Central local government area in Ogun   state; Umar Tahir Abba, age 53 from Mubi local government in Adamawa state; Abdulahi Muhammed, age 55 from Gudunfulani local government area in Bauchi state and Muhammad sale, age 60, from Ngogo local government area in Kano state.

Federal Govt Moves To Re-Arrest Nnamdi Kanu, Asks Court To Revoke His Bail

Biafra leader Nnamdi Kanu

Federal Government has asked a Federal High Court in Abuja to revoke the bail it granted the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu having allegedly violated the conditions attached to the bail.

The government, through Barrister Magaji Labaran of the Federal Ministry of Justice, said that Nnamdi Kanu has not only breached the conditions attached to the bail granted him on April 25 on health grounds, but has allegedly conducted himself in manners that threaten public peace.

Barrister Magaji cited Kanu’s alleged threat that elections would not hold in South East states until the Federal Government conducted referendum on whether or not Biafra should secede and instances where the IPOB leader addressed crowds exceeding 10, as well as threatening civil disobedience, as against the court’s directive that he must not be seen in a crowd of over 10 people.

In a counter-motion, Magaji asked the court to dismiss an application by Kanu, seeking a review of the bail conditions, noting that not only had Kanu not met the bail conditions and was enjoying the bail, but it was an affront to the court’s authority for the IPOB leader to approach the court for the review of the conditions, having allegedly breached them.

“The offence for which he (Kanu) is standing trial is not ordinarily bailable; the court, not withstanding, granted bail to the 1st defendant/applicant (Kanu) on health grounds on 25th April 2017.

“Among other conditions for the bail of the 1st defendant is that he should not be seen in a crowd exceeding 10 people; that he should not grant any interviews, hold or attend any rallies; that he should file, in court, medical updates of his health status every month. The bail conditions were perfected by the 1st defendant/applicant, which he is currently enjoying.

“Rather than observing all the conditions listed above, the 1st defendant, in fragrant disobedience to the court order, flouted all conditions given by the court.

“The 1st defendant equally incited his members to disrupt, disallow and boycott elections in South East states, starting with Anambra State gubernatorial election scheduled for November 18 if the Federal Government failed to hold referendum for the realisation of the state of Biafra.

“The 1st defendant has already declared the bail conditions given by the court unconstitutional before approaching this court with the application for variation. Rather than showing remorse for his actions, the 1st defendant approached this court with an application for a review of the same conditions for the bail which he grossly flouted.

“Considering the above, that the 1st applicant has violated the conditions on which the terms of his bail were premised, we urge this court to commit the defendant to prison by invoking the provision of Section 173(2)(B) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.

“We categorically state that justice would have been denied the state by this court, if the state is not protected from the offences being perpetrated by the 1st defendant/applicant, who is currently on bail,” the government said.

Kanu and four other IPOB members – Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Benjamin Madubugwu, David Nwawuisi and Bright Chimezie – are being tried before the Federal High Court, Abuja on offences relating to conspiracy and treasonable felony.

Adamawa Hunters Kill Boko Haram Commander That Killed Army Commando

Killed Boko Haram leader

A group of hunters have gunned down a notorious Boko Haram commander whose name was given as ‘Bulayaga’ and was believed to have responsible for the killing of an Army commando, Bukar Jimerta a month ago. He was shot dead on Wednesday, August 16th in Adamawa state.

This was even as the Nigerian soldiers announced the killing of at least 10 Boko Haram fighters during an ambush at a village near Maiduguri, Borno State.

Deputy Director, Army Public Relations at the 8 Task Force Division, Timothy Antigha, who announced this, said that the operation was executed in Maza village of Mafa Local Government Area.

Antigha said; “The troops of 8 Task Force Division have neutralized 10 terrorists in Maza village in Marte Local Government Areas of Borno State.

“The terrorists fell into an ambush laid by troops at about 9 pm last night, as they attempted to sneak back into their swampy hideouts in the Lake Chad.

“Items recovered from the terrorists include 10 bicycles, 11 carts containing food items and 2 cows. In a related development, troops also recovered 50 cows abandoned by fleeing terrorists, during clearance operations conducted in Danari and Mowo villages in Monguno Local Government Area.

“It should be noted that as the noose continues to tighten on Boko Haram terrorists, coupled with the wet season, they have resorted to the use of bicycles and charts as means of transportation.” [myad]

Igbo Groups Blame Own Leaders For Pauperizing Igbos Over The Years

Igbo people

Two Igbo groups, the Igbo Peoples Congress and The Igbo Aborigines have asked the leadershhip of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and MASSOB to look inward at Igbo leaders who have, pver the years, pauperized the people of the South East.

According to them, Igbos who have occupied all known positions in Nigeria except the Executive Presidency have done little to better the lives of Ndigbo, saying that during the Goodluck Jonathan regime, Igbos constituted more than fifty percent of his inner cabinet but that nothing was brought for Ndigbo by these appointees except their families, girl friends and bootlickers.

“Its these people that IPOB AND MASSOB should first query before querying Nigeria. What about Raph Uwazuruike who made Igbos to be the minority of the majorities courtesy of preventing Igbos from  participating in the 2006 National census. Is that not affecting Ndigbo today and do we blame Nigeria also for that.

“What Nigeria has done to Ndigbo is lamentable but what Igbos have done to themselves is even more lamentable.”

In a statement through their spokesmen, Pastor Okey Colbert and Mazi Chidi Obisike, the groups asked: “how many times do our Igbo Governors and leaders make concrete case to empower our suffering youths as Niger Delta Governors and leaders strenuously made case for the amnesty deal which has now seen to the empowerment of more than 200.000 Niger Delta Youths and their placement on a stipend of sixty five thousand Naira every month? “Who speaks for the suffering Igbo Youths in Nigeria and why would they not be agitating when they are abandoned by their own leaders and by Nigeria. Nnamdi Kanu and pro-Biafran agitators should ask themselves these questions and not just blaming Nigeria and the North for all Igbo woes.”

The groups said that in the house of Raph Uwazuruike today are all manner of state of arts cars and that he has luxurious estates everywhere at the expense of thousands of Igbo youths who were mowed down by Nigerians security forces in the Biafran agitation.

“Have IPOB and MASSOB  members looked into all these?”

They made it clear that they in support of Restructuring or Referendum in the alternative, but that pro-Biafran agitators must ask relevant questions and put their searchlight on Igbo land first before looking outside. [myad]

I Saw The Lion In London, By Femi Adesina

Buhari-3Not a few tongues had wagged over the fact that President Muhammadu Buhari was outside the country on medical vacation for weeks on end, and no member of his media team was with him. Many times, we had been confronted by journalists on why we were sitting pretty in Nigeria, while our principal was confronted by severe health challenges in London.
How did I feel about the situation? I had always told the media, and others who cared to listen, that whoever is on a presidential entourage at any time is the prerogative of the President. In the first 20 months of this administration, the President had made scores of trips, both locally and internationally. There was none, and I repeat, none, in which the media team was excluded. We were always there to keep the world abreast with what the President was doing.
When President Buhari first needed to travel for holiday and medical attention in January this year, it was deemed a private trip, in which the media was not needed. On such journey, you naturally would need security details, your personal physician, protocol and domestic aides, and those were the ones that went. Media? It depended on the principal. What was essential was that the channels of communication be kept open.
When the fuss came that the media handlers of the President were transmitting at best third hand information to the public, it did not bother me as much as it did some people, particularly, journalists. The discretion to have anyone with him at a given time was that of the President, and there was nothing anybody could do about it. I was in direct contact with those who were around him, and that was the best in the circumstances.
When the rumour mill went into overdrive sometime in January that the President had passed on, the first person I called was his personal physician. He laughed, saying nothing of such happened. I was thus confident enough to debunk the malicious information.
Before he returned on March 10, in what turned out to be the first leg of his medical treatment, President Buhari had spoken with me personally on phone, the details of which I made available to the public. It was sufficient for me.
The President left again on May 7. I was with him at home till he left for the airport. Information dissemination followed the same pattern as on the first trip. The aides on hand told me whatever was necessary, and I communicated same, never for once making it appear that the information was firsthand. It was the best and the honest thing to do. You work for a straightforward man, it would be a disservice to him for you to begin to spin and bend information. Never!
Not once did I agitate to visit London to see the President. I was trusting enough to receive whatever information was passed to me, knowing the kind of man we serve. Blessed are those who have not seen, and yet believe.
A lot of people were using paracetamol for what they considered my headache. They continued to fret that I was not in London, but it didn’t bother me a bit. Ask my wife and children, they would tell you that I am never in unnecessary hurry. I don’t push things, but the lines always fall for me in pleasant places. I have learnt to take all things in my strides, and let the divine powers work out the rest. Some people will erroneously call it a laid back approach, but those who are discerning would see that I had always excelled in whatever I did, physical, professional, spiritual, domestic etc. No need to sing my own praises. Not unto us, but unto Him, be all the glory and praises.
And then, on Wednesday last week, ‘come came to become’ (apologies K.O Mbadiwe). I received a communication to proceed to London to see the President, along with other members of the presidential media team. To lead the delegation was Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture, while others included myself, Mallam Garba Shehu, Lauretta Onochie, Bayo Omoboriowo, and the Nigerian Television Authority team of Adamu Sambo and Emmanuel Anrihi. Senior Special Assistant on International and Diaspora Matters, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, who was in London on another official matter, eventually joined us to see the President on Saturday.
Leaving the country through the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Friday morning, one was as conspicuous as a tiger in a teashop. All that knew me, and saw that I was headed for London, naturally said: “Please give our greetings to Baba o.” They just took it for granted that I was going to London to see the King, and not the Queen this time, as made popular by the pussycat in the nursery rhyme.
The trip aboard the British Airways Boeing 777-200/300 was pleasant and pleasurable. It was like a whole city in the sky. The Nigerians who saw me and my colleague, Mallam Garba Shehu, onboard, also jumped to the same right conclusion as those at the airport: “Please greet Baba for us o.”
On Saturday afternoon, we were ferried from our hotels at the appointed time. At Zero Hour, we were at the Abuja House, Nigerian High Commission, London.
As we strode into the living room, I saw with infinite pleasure, the great object of my mission. Standing tall and ramrod straight was President Muhammadu Buhari, with that ubiquitous smile in place. He was looking a lot better than he had ever looked in the past eight months. My heart leapt for joy, and sang praises to God. Was this not the man they said was on life support machine? Didn’t they say he could neither walk nor talk? But he was welcoming Alhaji Lai Muhammed, and calling him by name. I was next. I shook the hands of the man I had admired since his days as a military head of state, a man I am not ashamed to call my leader and President today, and any day.
Seated, the President had words for each member of the team, which showed that he had been following events back home very keenly. He commended the Minister of Information and Culture, saying, “Lai, you are all over the place. I see you virtually everyday. You have been working very hard.” Pointing to Abike Dabiri-Erewa, he said, “She is here in her constituency. But me, I am here reluctantly.” We all laughed, and Dabiri-Erewa jocularly issued what you could call a quit notice, saying she didn’t want the President in her constituency again.
How are you, Mr President?
“I am okay now. I feel I could go home, but doctors are in charge here, and I’ve learnt to obey my doctors. I’ve learnt to obey orders, rather than be the one giving the orders.”
If you have met the President personally, he is usually full of wisecracks, and this day was not different. He told us he had enough time to watch television, and commended the NTA particularly, and Nigerian media generally, for bringing him up to speed with what was happening back home.
He said he had been watching the protests by people who wanted him to return home post-haste, or resign. He mentioned one of the leaders of the protest by name, and laughed. I did not discern any malice in the laughter.
President Buhari told us he seldom got sick, something he had told Nigerians on March 10, at his first return. When we told him millions of people were praying for him at home, in Africa, and even beyond, I saw the glow in his eyes, and he said :”May God reward them,” after noting that what Nigeria did in The Gambia in January, which forced a sit-tight Yahya Jammeh to quit office, “fetched us a lot of goodwill and latitude.”
We talked about many issues, some of which are not due for public consumption yet. The President was obviously enjoying our company. Then the State Chief of Protocol, Ambassador Lawal Kazaure, popped up (as he always does) and indicated that the allotted time was over.
“Oh dear,” the President exclaimed, reluctant to see us go.
It was time for photographs, and we walked into the garden. The President was spry, as he joined us. Bayo Omoboriowo clicked away, and those were the pictures you have seen. The President even almost sprinted, while going back inside. Omoboriowo captured that rare moment.
And to the dining room we proceeded. We sat at that famous table, laden with different kinds of fruits; banana, apple, pear, water melon, and many others. It was a setting which a man blinded by bile, and suffused with hatred, had described as a previous fast breaking session at Aso Villa during a Ramadan season. Father, forgive him, for he knows not what he says.
We ate, heartily. Our appetites had been stimulated by the state in which we met our principal. Wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, was at hand to attend to us, urging us to eat as much as we wanted. Halima, daughter of the President, as well as Yusuf, his son, were also there.
It was a pleasure meeting all the presidential aides once again, and we greeted one another warmly: Yau and Lawal (trusted security details), Sunday (the personal cook of many decades), the ADC,  SCOP, CSO, CPSO, the personal physician, Tunde Sabiu, Sarki Abba, and many others. It was a grand re-union.
Lunch over, the President bade each person goodbye, with a handshake. We said to him, “See you soon, sir.” But when Dabiri-Erewa uttered the same, the President laughed, and declared: “No, we will leave you here, as this is your constituency.”
The health status of our President, as earlier attested to by Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury, during his visit, was a testimony to the healing powers of God. This was a man gravely ill, but restored miraculously. It can only be God. In spite of what haters, wailers, and filthy dreamers imagine, and which they spew out, God remains merciful and immutable. He has the final say. If I were a hater, I would repent now, in sackcloth and ashes.
Yes, I’ve been to London to see the King. The Lion King. But unlike the pussycat in the nursery rhyme, I didn’t frighten any mouse under the chair.
