Tinubu To Ododo: Go Yeh And Conquer Kogi

President Bola Tinubu handed the flag of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the governorship candidate of the party in Kogi State, Usman Ahmed Ododo with prayer that he emerges winner in the November 11 election.

… and Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan takes her position as Senator representing Kogi Central on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), after the Appeal Court verdict sacked Engineer Abubakar Ohere of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Take It Easy, There’s Enough Naira Notes To Go Round, CBN Assures Nigerians

Central bank of Nigeria (CBN) has asked Nigerians not to be panicky as there is sufficient stock of Naira to go round, even beyond December this year.
Indications are that in some parts of the country, there has been massive cash withdrawal from banks in anticipation of the December deadline set for the exchange of the old Naira fro the new ones in the Naira redesign programme. Informed sources say that the CBN has been inundated by complains of scarcity of cash in some parts of the country as cash is being withdrawn from banks as soon as it is made available.
In a statement today, November 2, the Director in the apex bank’s Corporate communication Department, Dr. Isa AbdulMumin, said: “the attention of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has been drawn to reports of alleged scarcity of cash at banks, automated teller machines (ATMs), Points of Sale and among Bureaux de Change (BDCs) in some major cities across the country. “Our findings reveal that the seeming cash scarcity in some locations is due largely to high volume withdrawals from the CBN branches by Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) and panic withdrawals by customers from the ATMs While we note the concerns of Nigerians on the availability of cash for financial transactions, we wish to assure the public that there is sufficient stock of currency notes for economic activities in the country.
“The branches of the CBN across the country are also working to ensure the seamless circulation of cash in their respective states of operation.
“Members of the public are, therefore, advised to guard against panic withdrawals as there is sufficient stock to facilitate economic activities. Nigerians are also advised to embrace alternative modes of payment, which would reduce pressure on using physical cash.”

NLC Leadership Came To Imo To Play Politics, Blackmail Me – Gov Uzodinma

Gov. Hope Uzodinma

The Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma has accused the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) of coming to the state to play partisan politics and blackmail him, as candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in November 11 governorship election.
Uzodinma told newsmen at the Presidential villa, in Abuja today, November 2, that there was no reason why the NLC, led by its President, Joe Ajaero, would want to stage protest in the State, very close to election time.
“Recall that when I came in as Governor in January 2020, I started paying minimum wage of 30,000 that has been lying there that previous leadership didn’t pay.
“By December, I paid 13th month; the first time in the history of Imo civil service and I have maintained continuously this 13th month payment as an incentive. I automated the payment systems.
“Salaries are now received in an automated manner in Imo State for the first time. I brought new innovations.
“I reformed civil service. No wonder that the civil service, entire national labour Congress of Imo state chapter endoresed me and I’m the only candidate they are supporting in the election. The Nigerian Union of Pensioners endoresed me.
“From 2007 to 2020, no civil servant in Imo State received gratuity. It is only my government that have now floated bonds to pay outstanding gratuities to civil servants.
“So I want you people to be very careful because there is an attempt to mix up partisan politics or an attempt to blackmail my government, but I can tell you that my people are already aware that was why the NLC Imo State chapter addressed a World Press Conference that what their National Leadership is doing is not correct, and that they are not going to do any strike or protests.
Governor Uzodinma said that because of the refusal of the Imo State chapter to join in the proposed strike action, the national leadership dissolved them and put in a caretaker.
He said that as Chief Security Officer of the State, he has a responsibility to intervene.
“I encouraged the national leadership not to dissolve a management team whose tenure has not expired, and that was what they did.
“I don’t interfere with labour matters, but I have convinced my workers in Imo State to believe in me, and that trust is what opposition parties are trying to fight.
“But I can assure you that Imo people already have taken that decision. “11th November is by the corner. Come and observe the election.”

On Presidential Yacht, Other Matters, By Tope Ajayi

It has become a pattern for some individuals, CSOs and a section of the media to pick one or two line items every budget cycle for sensational headlines, deliberately ignoring context in their reporting.
The public that should benefit from good journalism, which should primarily educate and adequately inform, is left confused and miseducated due to mischaracterisation of issues and misrepresentation of facts.
The trending issues on social media since yesterday are two items in the 2023 supplementary budget. One is the provision for a presidential yacht in the supplementary budget by the Navy and the other is over N6 billion for vehicles to the State House.
It is important to state clearly that President Bola Tinubu didn’t ask for a presidential yatch and I doubt he needs one to perform the functions of his office. From what I know, the request for a yacht, however it is named or couched in the budget is from the Navy and they must have operational reasons for why it is required.

The budget office should be in a position to also explain to the public why such expenditure should be accommodated now, considering the economic situation of the country. I must readily admit that the one reason our budgeting system has been a subject of public attack is the very simplistic way some of the line items are described by civil servants, who prepare the budget. Examples abound. Sometimes in 2016, an Enterprise Resource Planning ( ERP) project of the Ministry of Solid Minerals worth over N300m then was captured in that year’s budget as “website”. Naturally, it generated a massive controversy as people, rightly, asked to know the type of website that will be built with N300million.
It is important to say that journalism should enrich public enlightenment and not create an atmosphere of siege. It is poor reporting to always reduce State House budgetary provisions to the President and Vice President. When the State House makes provision for vehicles, it is reported as if it is the President that will use all the vehicles or eat all the food when a provision is made for food and catering services. We have had such inaccurate reporting in the past. A President and Vice President cannot, for any reason, spend N20 million naira to eat in a year if it is about the food they will eat as first and second families. How much food can a person really eat? Yet, we will read headlines that Tinubu, Buhari, Jonathan or whoever the President is wants to spend N5 billion on food and catering in a year when in actual fact such budgetary provisions are made to accommodate many state events, meetings, hosting of VIPs, foreign dignitaries, and even visits by other Head of States, and o bilateral and multilateral meetings that the State House will deal with in a given year.
It is worth stating that in August this year President Tinubu as the Chairman of the Authority of Heads of States and Governments of ECOWAS hosted two extraordinary summits of the regional body over the political crisis in Niger Republic. The two summits required catering services for the ECOWAS leaders and their delegation. Just this past Sunday, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz was on a State Visit to Nigeria with a delegation of top business men and women from Germany. The President hosted the visiting Chancellor and his delegation to a state banquet. State House budget for food and catering services is spent on such events. It is not spent essentially to feed the President and Vice President.
On matters of vehicles, the N6 billion budget provision is not to buy vehicles for the President and Vice President alone. President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima are not using any new vehicles in their fleet. They are using inherited vehicles. There are hundreds of civil servants and political aides working at the State House who need operational vehicles. I am a senior aide of the President. I am using my personal car and at my own expense since I resumed work more than five months ago. Like me, virtually all the appointees of the President are using personal vehicles at their own expense for official duties. Most of the vehicles in the pool for various departments are run down. Even members of the State House Press Corps do not have functional bus to ease their movement. I know for a fact that a request for a new bus for State House Press Corps is captured in the supplementary budget for vehicles.
It is necessary to add that none of the political appointees has drawn any benefit and perks from public treasury. I must add that in 5 months, we have not even received a kobo as salary because of procedural issues involved in capturing new appointees on the payroll via IPPIS.
The Presidency is a huge Bureaucracy with hundreds of staff. Any budget head for the State House is to run the system, not for epicurean fantasy of a sitting President and Vice President. In this page-view-centric and social media age, it is easy to provoke public rage. It is also tempting for bloggers and quack journalists to take the easy road of sensationalism to attract traffic to their blogs and news websites. But good journalism, I believe, should be about substance and nuanced reporting.

I Am Still A Member Of PDP, But On National Assignment In FCT – Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has made it clear that he is still a strong member of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
He stressed that his assignment in the FCT is to represent the interest and unity of the country and not to promote the agenda of any political party.
The minister, who spoke today, November 1,
when he received members of the PDP Governors Forum, led by its chairman, Senator Bala Muhammed, in Abuja reiterated his commitment to the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Wike however accused his detractors of being behind the issues in his Rivers State, stressing that he would not be intimidated by propaganda in the social media and would not be dissuaded from doing what is right.
He thanked the President for appointing him as FCT Minister and for intervention in the political crisis in his state.
“I commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and also the PDP governors’ forum for stepping in to resolve the issues. It takes matured minds to be able to do that.”
The Minister assured the Forum that he will continue to work for the President to realize his agenda to renew the hope of the citizenry.
Earlier, Senator Bala Mohammed said that the appointment of Wike is a demonstration of the President’s bipartisan leadership style in the country
Governor Bala Mohammed, who was once the FCT Minister, said: “at the risk of being accused of flattery, we really appreciate Mr. President and Nyesom Wike. Again, giving him this office at the FCT, which is like a State, in spite of the fact that he is still one of us as a PDP member, has shown the kind of leadership that Mr. President has”.
According to him, Wike’s antecedents made him deserving of the recognition by the President, advising the Minister to continue to dispense his responsibility to the President.
He gave him assurance that the PDP is fully in support of his God-given bipartisan responsibility.
Bala Muhammad asked the Minister to continue to be a mentor and a leader of not only Rivers State but at the national level and as a trusted ally of the President.
“We are proud of this dual and multifarious position that you have assumed. You are growing in your pedigree. “Even though you contested elections with me at the primaries, I know your pedigree has risen very high. We are sure you are going to make positive contributions to the growth and development of the country, especially at this level, given your antecedents in Rivers Sate.”
On the political situation in Rivers State, Senator Bala Muhammed described the issues as a family affair of the PDP, adding that it has been resolved by the party.
He described Rivers State as an important economic enclave of the country hence the interest of the President and all stakeholders to resolve the issues.
He commended the Minister’s maturity in the face of the crisis while applauding his immense contributions to the growth of Rivers state and the PDP.
On the courtesy call team were Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State and and Kefas Agbu of Taraba State.

The Importance Of Nigeria’s Election Into IPU Exco, By Edward Usoro

Is there any benefit from Nigeria’s election into the executive committee of the Inter -Parliamentary Union (IPU)? The question, in the last few days, has become a song on the lips of many. The quest for answer becomes necessary, following the historic election of Senator Godswill Akpabio into the executive committee of the international legislative organ. Akpabio, the leader of the Nigerian delegation to the 147th Assembly summit, is the Senate President!
For about 59 years, we heard nothing about IPU. If Nigeria was participating in its activities, few knew. But few weeks back, Akpabio and the 10th National Assembly emboldened and emblazoned our country’s name on the global history book. Suddenly, Nigeria is conspicuous on the world’s radar, after Akpabio got elected into the Exco committee of IPU.
Some, who heard the news dismissed it as another fruitless venture. A few expressed confidence that it holds enormous possibilities for the nation. Yet, the curiosity lingers. Even Akpabio’s explanation on return from Angola, where the celebrated election took place, has not satisfied some.
The Senate President had told newsmen on arrival from the summit, that his election into IPU Exco would impact positively on the country, through the creation of employment and developmental opportunities for young Nigerians, who are seeking to become diplomats.
His words: “A lot of employment opportunities would be created, a lot of offices would be opened; sub-national offices would be opened and a lot of young Nigerians who wish to be diplomats will have the opportunity of working there.
Additionally, he said: “This will also attract foreign direct investments in the area of training and retraining and capacity building, not just for the legislature but for people who are in different fields. The benefits are enormous, so we thank God for it.”
For easier understanding, IPU plays a major role in promoting job creation and foreign direct investments by facilitating dialogue and cooperation between parliaments and governments. It supports the development of policies and legislations that promote economic growth, entrepreneurship, and investment.
Through its programs and initiatives, the IPU provides opportunities for parliamentarians to exchange knowledge and experiences on best practices for attracting foreign direct investments (FDIs) and creating an enabling environment for job creation.
Additionally, the IPU works to ensure that sustainable development goals are integrated into national legislation and policies, which can contribute to creating a conducive environment for job creation and attracting FDIs.
For years, Nigeria was missing at the decision-making table of that Union. But with Akpabio’s election into the IPU Exco, our nation is sure to benefit in specific areas of economic growth, sustainable democracy, entrepreneurship, and investment.
According to experts, with the active involvement at the Exco level, Nigeria stands to reap huge, including from the following:
* Investment promotion: The IPU could worked with Nigeria to develop investment promotion policies and strategies. These may include offering tax incentives, creating special economic zones, and streamlining regulations to attract foreign direct investment.
* Small and medium – sized enterprises (SMEs) support: The body is know to have supported legislations that simplify business registration processes, provide access to finance and credit, and promote entrepreneurship education and training. Nigeria is bound to benefit from such gestures, too.
* Innovative financing mechanisms: IPU is likely to encourage Nigeria to explore innovative financing mechanisms to support economic growth. This could include levers like the establishment of venture capital funds, public-private partnerships, and crowdfunding platforms, etc, to support startups and innovation.
* Labour market reforms: The IPU advocates for labour market reforms that promote flexibility, social protection, and fair working conditions. Thus, the union is in a position to support legislations that enhance worker rights, improve access to training and skills development, as well as promote gender equity, especially in the workforce.
* Sustainable development integration: Records show that IPU has supported the integration of sustainable development goals into some national legislations and policies. With Nigeria’s election into its Exco, we are likely to witness increased promotion of environmentally-friendly business practices, renewable energy adoption, and responsible investment practices.
Just like Akpabio explained, IPU plays a major role is growing democracies in most member nations. The extent and speed of such growth may be interrogated. But such speed may also depend on how serious those beneficiary nations are. In Nigeria’s case, with the avowed commitment of the current administration, we are likely to witness the actualisation of “renewed hope” in areas like democracy, peace, cooperation, etc.
Interestingly, IPU, through “Networking and Diplomacy,”allows parliamentarians to connect and engage with their counterparts from other countries, fostering relationships and enabling international cooperation. It also provides a platform for sharing information, experiences, and best practices among its members. This can help the lawmakers learn from one another and enhance their legislative and governance skills.
Another benefit of being at the apex of the IPU is in advocacy. Here, Nigeria can join in advocating for key issues and contribute to global decision-making processes. She can also influence international policies and promote human rights, democracy, and sustainable development.
Aside from serving as a forum where parliamentarians engage in meaningful dialogue and shared concerns on various global challenges, thus seeking common solutions, IPU membership offers support for democratic institutions. Being in the Exco of the organ places Nigeria at a vantage, when any such issue comes up.
Specifically, through its activities, the IPU helps strengthen parliaments, promote transparency, and ensure accountability in governance. By belonging to the highest decision making body, Nigeria is certainly aiming for the top in democracy, peace and sustainable development, among others.

Why I Refused To Accept Gov Yahaya Bello’s Acceptance Of My Judicial Victory – Natasha Akpoti

Natasha Akpoti

Natasha Akpoti, who was affirmed the winner of the February 2023 Senatorial election for Kogi Central recently by the Court of Appeal, has said that she refused to acknowledge the acceptance of the verdict by Governor Yahaya Bello because the contest was not between her and the Governor.
During an interview with Arise TV, Natasha Akpoti said: “People are born differently. Isn’t it odd that the state governor will issue a statement that he accepts the judgement?
“He wasn’t on the ballot, but he went all out, owning the last election as if it were Yahaya Bello against Natasha at the last election.
“Like I said, people are made differently because while some sit down and allow things to take its natural course, some want to become godfathers at all costs.
“Yahaya Bello falls into the latter category.
“He has a personality, which I’ll say, with all due respect, is deluded. And it makes him want to lord over things and dictate the terms, almost acting like a mini-god on earth, and that is not how life happens.
“I will say this: in 2018, before I joined the SDP and contested for the senatorial seat, I was in the APC for pretty much three months, and I’ll say this.
“The governor called on me just like he called on nine other aspirants at that point, telling each everyone to step down. To some people, he offered money; he offered me money as well. He offered me N50 million at first, but I turned him down.
“He said, How about 70 million? So you step down for my anointed candidate, who was the then senator. I rejected the money. I told him I wasn’t in the race for money.”
Natasha stressed that her motivation for participating in the race was not financial gain but a commitment to advocate for the interests of her constituents in the Senate.

Dr. Maida Describes Financial Technology Industry As A Critical Driver For Nigeria’s Financial Inclusion

The Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive officer of the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Aminu Maida, has described the Financial Technology (FinTech) industry as a critical driver of financial inclusion of Nigerian citizens living in the underserved and unserved communities across the country.
Dr. Maida, in a keynote address at the 2023 edition of the annual Nigeria Information Technology Reporters Association (NITRA) FinTech Forum, said that Fintech is revolutionizing Nigeria’s financial ecosystem as it represents a positive disruption to the conventional financial system.
The forum focused on “Harnessing Nigeria’s Fintech Potential: Challenges and Opportunities” and took place in Lagos.
The EVC was represented at the event by the Controller of NCC Lagos Zonal Office, Mr Henry Ojiokpota.
Dr. Maida acknowledged that the theme of the forum was suitable at this time for a discourse about the financial industry given the significant rise in digital financial services across the nation.
He said that financial technology’s emergence to leverage technology to enhance financial services such as mobile banking, borrowing, investment and cryptocurrency, comes as an enhancer and enabler of business and other opportunities in the sphere of innovation, job creation and investment that further stimulates economic growth.
The EVC said that fintech applications such as robo-advisors, payment apps, peer-to-peer (P2P) lending apps, investment apps, and crypto apps, among others, create business opportunities for individuals. He also stated that the adoption of these Fintech applications for socioeconomic gains by the youth, who account for 70 per cent of Nigeria’s population, will add value to the economy.
Dr. Maida recalled recent industry statistics citing active subscriptions across mobile networks in Nigeria, which hit 220.7 million in August 2023, to demonstrate that the Nigerian Fintech ecosystem can offer an array of financial services to telecom subscribers.
He said that the Commission will continue to expand and enhance telecommunications infrastructure to enable robust Fintech services, and address consumer concerns, and regulatory challenges in the sector because the optimal utilization of digital technologies will enhance the provision of financial services to rural communities and underserved segments of the population through leveraging of high mobile phone penetration in Nigeria.
“Therefore, Fintech has the potential to deepen the existing payment and financial system infrastructure to reach unserved and underserved areas and further stimulate economic growth.”
Dr. Maida said that the Commission has begun implementing new strategies to meet the new target of 70 per cent Broadband penetration by the year 2025 as contained in the Nigerian National Broadband Plan 2020-2025 and the blueprint released by the Honourable Minister for accelerating the growth of the digital economy sector through technology.
The EVC said that these policies and strategies have huge implications for enhancing derivable benefits of the Fintech industry as well as significantly and positively impacting Nigeria’s goals on financial inclusion and the digital economy at large.
The NCC boss promised that the Commission will continue to support the Fintech industry in harnessing its enormous potential and will not rest on its oars in its strides to address the challenges in the sector, including improving the provision of secured infrastructure that support the delivery of digital financial services in efficient ways. He also reiterated the Commission’s focus on maintaining minimum standards in Quality of Service (QOS) to ensure uninterrupted connectivity to enhance sectoral contribution to the economy.
He said that the Commission, in support of its vision in this sphere, has implemented a Memorandum of Understanding with CBN on boosting payment systems and financial inclusion, which is in line with the Nigeria Payments System Vision 2025. He also informed that NCC will continue to play an important role in harnessing the potential of Fintech through maximum support for Fintech policies, enforcing regulations, and strengthening collaborations with relevant authorities.

Appeal Court Verdict: Ohere Congratulates Natasha “In The Interest Of Ebiraland”

Engineer Abubakar Ohere of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has congratulated Natasha Akpoti over the verdict of the Court of Appeal that favoured her in the Kogi Central Senatorial election, held in February year.
Ohere, who is vacating the Senate seat for Natasha, following the Court judgement, in a statement today, November 1, said: “Politics aside, time has come to let you know that the interest of Ebiraland must be most paramount to you without any restriction or discrimination whether based on political persuasion, creed, or religion.
“Whatever personal differences we have must give way to the advancement of our great state. The interest of Ebira people must be guaranteed by you regardless of religious and political affiliations. I pray for peace and progress in your tenure.”
Ohere said that he had accepted the ruling in the interest of peace and development of Ebiraland and  asked the party’s supporters to accept the verdict as the will of God.
“We strongly believe we presented a good case before the Appeal Court, but the Court thought otherwise and has given its verdict. While the outcome is against our wish and that of our party members and supporters, we are all bound to accept it as law-abiding citizens.
“To our members and supporters across the State, I urge you all to accept the verdict of the Court and move on. The present situation is a win-win for us. It’s both a loss and victory rolled into one. While we lost technically, we’ll gain the highest.
“I pray for prosperity for Natasha’s tenure and urge her to deliver good governance to the entire people of Kogi Central.
“I take this opportunity to congratulate you on your victory at the Appellate Court. While I pray for your tenure to be prosperous for our people and the State, I urge you to focus on the delivery of good governance and join hand with the Kogi State Government under the leadership of Gov. Yahaya Bello to bring about good governance.”
Ohere asked his supporters to join hands with the entire people of Ebiraland and support the candidature of Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo  for the governorship election coming up on November 11 in the State.

We’re Not Looking Backwards To Apportion Blames, Tinubu Tells Ministers

President Bola Tinubu has made it clear that his government is not going to look backwards in its determination to give new life to the citizens.
He said: “we are not looking backwards; we can’t compare and give excuses. This is our country we have to build it; we have to renew the foundation. We have to give hope to the populace, to Nigerians in doubt whether democracy and economic growth will be the pathway to their prosperity.”
The President spoke today, November 1, at a cabinet retreat for ministers, Presidential aides, Permanent Secretaries and top government functionaries in Abuja.
“Yes!  I admit and accept the asset and liability of my predecessor,” Tinubu said, adding that It is part of the definition in his professional background.
The President insisted however, that a
great Nigeria is possible, and that a greater Nigeria will come with the commitment, guidance, and resolute determination of the government functionaries to give the country a direction.
Read the full speech:
It is a great morning in Nigeria and I am humbled and happy to stand before you on this retreat, with forward-looking determination to embark on a very strong, bold endeavour to rebuild our country’s economy and our people’s hope renewed.
Thank you very much for your attendance. With strong determination, we are brought together the best brains, the best hands to navigate the future of this country.
I’m here to assure you and walk with you the best brains we can put together in civil service, the brain that we can put together in our democratic parliament and have been chosen for us by the public.
It is a good thing that the chairman of our party is here but the President is the president of all, whether affiliated with some political parties, regardless of religious, ethnic or otherwise, we are one.
A great Nigeria is possible, and a greater Nigeria will come under your commitment, guidance, and resolute determination to give the country a direction.
I’m with you. And please be assured that this great country is one family in one house, geographically located, partitioned, and living in different rooms. But we are all one family.
And we are here to make allegiance and give direction to that one family, making sure that relationships can only be stronger if we give hope to our people. We can only achieve our mission with boldness and strong determination with collaboration.
As I’ve stated before, no one succeeds alone. You the civil service, you must not see a minister as he or she will come and go and you will be there.  You must make a positive team for the good of this country.
Yes!  I admit and accept the asset and liability of my predecessor. It’s part of the definition in my professional background.
But you are in this ship. You will make good of it but not wreck it. You are a member of a great family; don’t see that minister as opportunistic. See, he or she as a partner that we must take the ship forward. Navigate it through turbulence and clear weather.
We are lucky we have a nation; the challenges are all over the world. You can see the chaos all around you. But be focused, like a man driving in the tunnel, don’t see the sky, don’t look up, face your direction. Be committed to the value and principle of results that will affect you, your neighbour, and the entire nation.
We’ve spent the last six months reviewing and evaluating ourselves, we’ve come a long way, but we set the agenda. Healthcare is a priority. Education of our people is a must. There is no other weapon against poverty than education.  You have the opportunity to change things.
Recently, three days ago, we received the Chancellor of the Republic of Germany and his delegation of investors. One of their key complaints and the question is whether they can bring their capital, repatriate their dividend, or, if not satisfied, take their capital away. The Minister of Trade and Investment was called upon by me to explain further, that those obstacles are gone, never to come back again. We are open for business.
That is why we established the Result Delivery Unit. At the end of this retreat, you’re going to sign a bond of understanding between you, the ministers, the permanent secretaries, and myself.
If you are performing, nothing to fear; if you miss the objective, we’ll review; if there is no performance, you leave us.  No one is an island, and the buck stops on my desk.
I assure you, you have a free hand. You must be intellectually inquisitive to ask how, why, when, and why it must be immediate. You have the responsibility to serve the people.
I’ve taken a young lady very dynamic, Hadiza Balla Usman, to head that delivery unit. If you have any complaints about her, see me. If you’re ready to work with her, stay there. Delivery, yes! we must achieve it for the sake of millions of people.
Yes, we are talking about the population of this country. What do you do with it? Make it an asset or a liability? Focus on its progress and come up with bold endeavours. We are great talents around the world, the biggest intellectually sound country in Horn of Africa.
Yes, we have challenges in the Sahel, we have challenges of climate change, south and north of Nigeria is battered, with ocean surge, we have desert encroachment in the north, but we are still blessed with arable lands. We can do it; we can build our country.
It’s not about theorizing. It’s about practical determination and focused evaluation. Yes, it is our country. We have no other one. Let’s be proud that we are Nigerians. We can do it, we can show leadership, we can fight to make democracy a lasting reference for the rest of Africa.
Don’t be afraid to make decisions, but don’t be antagonistic of your supervisor. If they are wrong, debate it. I stand before you and I’ve claimed on several occasions and I’m saying today again as the president, I can make mistakes, point it to me I would resolve that conflict, that error, perfection is only that of God Almighty. But you are there to help me succeed. Success I must achieve by all means necessary.
We have great minds, great intellectuals, great intellects, and all that we need.
When we were discussing this retreat, I said other than members of diplomatic corps to give us goodwill and inspiration, don’t invite any foreigner to give me a lecture about governance. I’ve been through it, and I believe in Nigeria.
It started from the day I was sworn in, and that bold endeavour is only achieved through courage, determination, and focused leadership.
We are going through the reform, painfully, and we still have other challenges. Don’t be a clog in the wheel of Nigeria’s progress.
Let us look forward. Let us be determined that corruption will go, progress will be achieved, better wages for our workers, and living wages.
We will transform the economy to work for millions of our citizens. We must take 50 million people out of poverty. We must build healthcare that works for all. Look around. Don’t be wicked. Look at the standard of education, look at the classrooms, and look at the roads. We can only spend the money, we will find it, we can not spend the people.
No crime in borrowing. Thank you, World Bank, for being a lending friend.  But let your achievement be homegrown. The determination that Nigeria can do it is here.
If it had not started six months ago, we are here to switch off the light, make you included, and make all Nigerians included. Our path for tomorrow is charted for our children and grandchildren. Don’t be selfish about it.
Property is not a shameful thing. It’s only unacceptable. And we have to banish it because it’s unacceptable. Let’s work on other identifiable areas.
Because a memo is submitted to you doesn’t mean that is the end of that matter. Think through it. Be inquisitive. Ask how, when, why.
I’m ready to enjoy the retreat going forward. We are not retreating from progress. We are just to talk to one another and chart a path for progress and prosperity of this nation. I’m honoured to declare this brainstorming session open.
Thank you.
