Modu Sheriff Describes Makarfi’s PDP Caretaker Committee As “Contraption”

Modu Sheriff embattledThe embattled former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has described the caretaker committee, headed by Senator Ahmed Makarfi as contraption.
Modu Sheriff said: “my attention has been drawn to the activities at the National secretariat of the PDP to the effect that some individuals masquerading as leaders have handed over to Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi under a contraption called “caretaker committee.”
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Inwa Bwala, the sacked chairman said that going by proceedings still pending in the courts to the effect that he remains the National Chairman, whatever transpired was null, void and of no effect whatsoever.
Modu Sheriff said that he has not mandated anybody, nor was his authority obtained by Uche Secondus, who has been parading himself as acting on behalf of the National Chairman.
“While we await the verdicts of the courts, we wish to state that Senator Ali Modu Sheriff is and remains the National Chairman of the party, until otherwise  declared by the courts.
“We allowed the charade to go on at the secretariat without any form of challenge in strict obedience to careful pronouncement on the matter, but we must also state that there is no gathering of groups or individuals, however powerful, such groups or individuals may be, that can be said to take precedence over the law.
“For the avoidance of doubts, we state categorically that what took place at the PDP secretariat on Tuesday June 7, 2016 was a total disregard to court orders. And an extension of the impunity for which the party has been accused of and which has taken the party to where it is today.
“The public should disregard all the actions and pronouncements. [myad]

Again Gov. Yahaya Bello Floors Ex Gov. Idris Wada, At Election Tribunal

Yahaya Bello KogiGovernor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has again defeated the immediate past Governor of the state, Captain Idris Ichala Wada at the governorship election tribunal sitting in Abuja.
Idris Wada had challenged the election of Yahaya Bello as the Governor of Kogi State, but the tribunal dismissed the petition.
Justice Halima Mohammed described the petition as lacking in merit, saying that Captain Wada never participated in the
primaries of the APC and so lacked the locus standi to challenge the nomination of Yahaya Bello.
Captain Wada contested in the Kogi State governorship election under the umbrella of the PDP.
Wada had asked the tribunal to declare him winner of the Kogi State governorship election.
He argued that Mr Bello was not qualified to be declared winner and did not have a deputy governor, a situation he claimed disqualified him from vying for the governor’s position.
Yahaya Bello was a substitute for the late candidate of the APC, prince Abubakar Audu, who died a day after the governorship election. [myad]

It Was Not Possible That I left Empty Treasury, Jonathan Opens Up

Goodluck Jonathan 2The immediate Nigerian President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has said that it was not possible that he left an empty treasury for the government of Muhammadu Buhari.

In an interview with Bloomberg TV, Jonathan said: “it is not true; there is no way that he (President Buhari) would have inherited an empty treasury and at the same time give bailout to the states. It’s not possible.

“Nigeria is a fairly robust economy, but sometimes, we over politicize some issues and make it look so bad. It was not that bad. Some people ask questions like I was the president of Nigeria since independence; I was the president for 5 years.”

He said that he was not surprised that Buhari’s government is currently emphasizing the fight against corruption, adding that eaxh government that came since independence had always took refuge in fighting corruption.

“It is routine in Nigeria from the collapse of the first republic, people blamed corruption. When the second republic collapsed, the military blamed corruption. If there is a major change in government, one political party taking over from another one, there must be issues.”

Former President admitted however that his government could not tackle the corruption in the oil sector because of certain people but that he was able to clean up corruption in fertilizer.

“In the area of fertilizer subsidy, we cleaned up and the corruption was removed. I wanted to do the same thing in the oil industry but the same people who are accusing us of corruption are the very people that were frustrating it.” [myad]
