Uduaghan Expresses Confidence That PDP’ll Win February Elections, Flags Off Campaign In Delta

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) formally kicked off its campaign in Delta State today with Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan expressing confidence that the party will emerge victorious in all the elections in February.
‎Flags of the party were presented to the candidates for senatorial, House of Representatives, at the Oghara Township Stadium.
Governor Uduaghan said that the PDP has a history of victory in the state and its track record of project delivery in the state and the country has given the party campaign materials.
The Governor who presented the PDP gubernatorial candidate for the elections, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa to Ethiope East local Government Area traditional rulers’ council at the Palace of the Ovie of Oghara shortly before moving to the Oghara Township Stadium, said: “we have always won elections and we will win again because the PDP has a lot of things on ground to campaign with.”
Senator Okowa at the occasion, said he will consolidate on the achievements of Governor Uduaghan’s administration and that of former Governor James Ibori.
He assured the traditional rulers that when elected, his administration would encourage government partnership with them for the development of the state.
The Ovie of Oghara, Oyibo Etsemitan, commended the PDP for its unity and commended Governor Uduaghan for providing good leadership to the party.
Ovie of Mosogar, Omene , Urie 1 said that the traditional rulers have endorsed the candidature of Senator Okowa stating, “we are moving away from politics of ethnicity, we are moving to the politics of development and we know that Senator Okowa will ensure development when he becomes the governor.”
At the campaign rally at the stadium, Senator Okowa assured Deltans that his administration will continue to build bridges of unity in the state, asserting, “we will remain as one united Delta.”
He said that his administration will develop the agricultural sector, accelerate industrialization of the state, restructure the education sector and improve on the programmes of Governor Uduaghan’s administration.
The PDP Chairman in the state, Chief Edwin Uzor who presented flags to the candidates observed that the PDP has done a lot for Nigerians, especially in Delta State and urged Deltans to vote for the PDP to enable the party continue with its development stride.
Others who spoke at the rally include the state’s Deputy Governor, Prof. Amos Utuama (SAN), Senator Okowa’s running mate, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro, the South South Chairman of the PDP, Dr Cairo Ojougbo, the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Dr Steve Oru, the Chairman of the PDP campaign committee, Prof. Sam Oyovbaire, the Chairman, Presidential Campaign contact committee for Delta State, Chief Diepreye Alamieyesegha, among others, urged Deltans to vote massively for the PDP in the interest of the nation and the state in particular. Exodus Of PDP Chieftains To APC In Ondo

Exodus of defections from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to All Progressives Congress (APC) is said to have taken place early today in Ondo state.
Confirmed sources said that all the former Speakers in Ondo State House of Assembly, five Commissioners in Mimiko’s administration and eight local government chairmen in Ondo State defected to APC.
A rally in Akure, which was held in the APC state secretariat, was turned into a harvest of defection, with scores of local government councillors shifting from PDP to APC. They were led by former Chief of Staff to the late Governor Segun Agagu, Mr. Femi Agagu.
Sources said that the greatest shock at the rally was the defection of former Speaker Victor Olabimtan, who is a director in President Jonathan’s Campaign Organisation and also a current member of the Federal Civil Service Commission.
It was learnt that at the last count, no fewer than 48 PDP leaders in‎ Ondo are leading thousands of their supporters to APC. [myad]

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that no change could be better than the rapid change in all sectors which Nigeria has undergone in the last four years, declaring the continuity of President Goodluck Jonathan as the real change the nation needs.
A statement by the national Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Olisa Metuh today said that no administration in the history of Nigeria has turned in high flying, all sector delivery in its first four years as President Jonathan, adding that in adopting change as its slogan, the APC has shown that it is out of tune with reality, as change has since begun under the present administration.
The Party argued that the mark of true leadership is the ability to stay the course notwithstanding the level of distractions orchestrated to make the leader lose focus, saying that President Jonathan has beaten every adversity to achieve an unprecedented transformation of Nigeria.
“What change is greater than an unimpeachable delivery in both fundamentals and incidentals of democracy? The basic and true test of democracy lies in the level of freedom available to the citizenry, in the separation of powers and in the value attached to the expressed wishes of the people in timely polls. To these cardinals of democracy, President Jonathan has been a slave!
“The change lies in the change of values and attitudes towards decades-long corruption as occasioned by the firm stand of President Jonathan on zero tolerance and in establishing the Freedom of information law which have made Nigerians discuss freely and expose corruption while government battle the ill within the ambit of the law.
“Today under President Jonathan, Nigerians relish in all fundamental freedoms even to a level where the opposition denigrate the person and the office of the President, yet no one is harassed and none, a political prisoner. Besides, the legacy of credible elections instituted in 2011 has gathered enough steam with President Jonathan’s insistence on one man, one vote. Votes now count and for the first time in our recent history, Nigerians raise their voters cards (PVC) in pride as a sign of strength and weapon for the enthronement of leaders of their choice.
“The change, the statement continued, lies in the continuity of the current infrastructural turn around where a lethargy in the unbundling of the energy sector was swiftly overcome and more power stations completed to up and stablise power supply as the critical base for accelerated development. The change is where a record 25,000 out of 35,000 km of Federal roads were either re-constructed or rehabilitated in just four years and railways long abandoned for decades now back on steam.
“There can be no better change better than in the diversification of the economy and where the investment friendly environment created by the Jonathan administration has buoyed up the economy with local and foreign investments; importantly, strengthening genuine local entrepreneurs for global competition, with automobiles for example now manufactured Nigeria.”
According to PDP: “the change that Nigerians yearn for is that which consolidates the capacity of a leader who established fourteen new federal universities in four years; holds close to the heart, the future of the children of the poorest of the poor in establishing the Almajiri and out-of -school children education system.
“The change lies in that leader who knowing the critical importance of health and agriculture in directly impacting on the wellbeing of the citizens engineered a radical change that removed a corrupt fertilizer and other agro-input distribution mechanism, gingering productivity by 9 metic tons of food and shutting down food import by USD 5.3 billion in 2014 while creating over 2.7 million direct farm jobs. He also repositioned health services, returning federal health institutions to real referral centers of excellence with capacity for treating all ailments and raising life expectancy to 53 years from 49 years.”
The PDP said that the opposition’s slogan of change is a mask for their inability to fashion out an alternative roadmap to greatness, calling on Nigerians to ask them if their meaning of change is a return to ‘Egypt’ where Nigerians queue up for days to buy petroleum products or the reversal of the realty of today where indigenous Nigerian oil and gas companies have been empowered and are now masters of the turf.
”We wish Nigerians to ask whether change means a return to an era where governments bought no single weapon for the armed forces to build its strength and make it formidable.
“Nigerians deserve to know whether change means a throw back to the time where instead of using institutional means to fight corruption within the ambit of the law, government would use extra judicial instruments to deprive Nigerians of the very essence of democracy in the name of fighting corruption.
“Since no one changes a winning team, more so where the opposition has no better alternative except in sloganeering ‘change’, the change remains the continuity of the excels of the present PDP government, through a leader who has shown absolute faith in God, fidelity to the laws of the country and respect for the rights of his compatriots.“ [myad]

APC Presidential Campaign Organization Commends Jonathan’s Positive View On Terrorist Attack In France, But…

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Organization has commended President Goodluck Jonathan for joining world leaders in denouncing the senseless killing of 19 French citizens in Paris.
The campaign, however, said in a statement signed by Mallam Garba Shehu, Director of Media and Publicity of the campaign asked the President to show the same level of compassion and empathy to Nigerians who have suffered similar tragedies at home
“Nothing less should be expected of any leader worthy of the name. Our request to Dr. Jonathan is that he forgot to do the same for the families of Nigerians senselessly killed in Baga, Borno State where 150 as confirmed by the Spokesman of the military high command or 2,000 as claimed by the local council Chairman. Nigerians are equally deserving of such soothing words of compassion and empathy.
“These victims of violence are not mere statistics. They are human beings. One dead Nigerian is as good as 150 or 2,000. We urge Mr. President to look inward and bring succour to his own people,” he said. [myad]

General Buhari Vows To Unearth Shady Deals In NNPC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari has vowed that if he is elected as President in the February election, he would unearth all the shady deals in the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) which the present government has been hiding from Nigerians.
A statement from the party’s Campaign Organization said that General Buhari will lift the veil on secrecies that have characterized the transactions in the Corporation.
The statement which was issued by the Directorate of Media and Publicity of the campaign in Abuja today said that it is apparent that the reason the country’s economy has always been experiencing heavy shock any time there is instability in the global oil market is because of corruption and lack of transparency and honesty in the way the NNPC is run.
The statement signed by Mallam Garba Shehu, Director of Media and Publicity of the campaign assured that if elected into office, an APC-led government will promote credible book-keeping in the day-to-day workings of the NNPC.
“To create a level playing field for all operators and investors in the oil and gas industry, there is an urgent need to have a clear and transparent regulatory and fiscal framework for the upstream, midstream and downstream activities.”
He said that for about fourteen years, the petroleum sector has undergone several reforms to bring its operations – legal, regulatory and organizational framework – in line with international best practices.
The APC Campaign, however, regretted that in spite of the huge human and financial resources that have been expended on these reforms, not much has been realised as a result of lack of commitment and political will of the Jonathan administration.
The APC Campaign said that to shore up the nation’s capacity to absorb any shock arising from the flexibility in the global oil and gas market, Buhari will ensure the following reforms: comprehensive review of the entire petroleum revenue collection and reporting system to ensure full disclosure and accountability to Nigerians; create a level playing field for all investors, operators and service providers in the oil and gas sector and reduce wastage and improve efficiency to ensure maximization of government revenue. Election campaigns have reached fever pitch level and gladiators in all sides of the divide have patched themselves in trenches in what some quarters have branded a ‘Do-or-die’ battle. Elections in Nigeria have always been seen as an act of war. And this impending Election is not different.
What is different however is the amount of garbage oozing out of the throat of some principal elements in the Campaigns, and the unprecedented level of mud slinging and character assassination.
Having taken a cursory look at the situation I am persuaded that the person of the President of Nigeria should be spared some decency, dignity and respect. And this is not to be taken lightly. All of us commentators and writers may be have been guilty in one way or the other, so it is not an attempt to play to the gallery or appear to be ‘holier-than-thou’.
President Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan by the grace of God and Obasanjo’s evil machinations has been the leader of Africa’s most populous country the past six years. Nobody can take away this historic fact from him or from history. Unfortunately he has made a woeful mess of that greatly undeserved and unmerited opportunity. Be that as it may, those of us who believe totally in the supremacy and pre-eminence of Olodumare, the unquestionable decider and designer of our lives dare not query or enquire into the mind of that Inscrutable Self-Emanate.
The call today is to separate the person of Jonathan from the administration of Jonathan especially when it comes to the unsparing condemnation of an Administration that has proven to be the worst in living memory. In all parameters the Jonathan-led government that is about to crumble completely has been a leader in corruption, recklessness, unaccountability, ruthless abuse of Constitution and gross misuse of power, roguish plunder and massive stealing and utter disregard for the masses of this country.
Dr. Ebele Jonathan must however be respected as a human person. He is a husband, father and bread winner to some people to whom he will forever remain a hero and a loved one. He may have been a total failure as a leader, but that does not mean that we should ridicule him. The President of a country does not deserve to be called ‘an imbecile’, ‘an idiot, ‘a coconut head’ or be derided so ugly and ridiculously in very unkind cartoons.
We should bear in mind that there are thousands of university Professors who cannot manage the accounts of their department let alone a whole University community. That a man ‘knows book’ does not mean such a person would be competent as a leader or manager. There are Professors, barons of industry, business moguls who can not manage their nucleus families; their homes!
That Jonathan’s wife has inadequacies in communicating in the English language is not a reason to lampoon her husband. Rumours had been around for some 15 years or so that Chief Mrs Jonathan was the preferred choice of Alamesigiah as Deputy Governor but that the poor wife, a loyal wife, conscious of her obvious shortcomings recommended her husband for the plumb job and the rest, they say, is history. If that rumour is to be believed, why should any one be disturbed that Dame patience Jonathan refused to take a back seat or play second fiddle in the government she thought rightly was hers!?
Dr Goodluck Jonathan is certainly on his way out of Aso Rock, and heading to his proud village of Utuoke. But the man every one agrees is a gentleman at the least on the surface, and a very humble and respectful man deserves some soft landing.
If Nigerians no longer want him and are done with the deceit of shoelessness, the man should simply be allowed to go with his head erect on his shoulders. Jonathan is certainly a most unhappy man today. Most of those with whom he started the journey of maladministration of Nigeria have virtually deserted his sinking boat. Even his government’s spokesman and erstwhile Minister of Information Mr Labaran Maku has branded the PDP ship they all looted as the ‘most fraudulent’ party in Africa. What could be a worse damning testimony for a party seeking re-election?
Jonathan, like other mortals has suffered personal tragedies; his uncle was once kidnapped, a brother died, a sister just recently passed, and he is daily confronted and embarrassed by comic show from someone he dares not confront or control. He also suffers the effrontery of Mrs Bottomleys. Why should Nigerians not have some human sympathy for such a man? And whether we like it or not, the poor man has been carrying the oversize burden of Nigeria on his broad but weak and weakened shoulders.
I sincerely believe that there is a limit to the extent of ridicule we can subject our out-going President to. I am aware that Americans poked fun on President Jimmy Carter and even made caricatures of his pendulum liking the productive organ to peanut, and they also put President Clinton’s head on a chopping block, but they did not call their persons unprintable names as we have subjected Jonathan to in recent time.
As for me, I would like to visit Jonathan in his imminent retirement at Utuoke and enjoy a feast of smoked fish in the creeks and go with him on a tour of the school he walked barefooted to several years past. After all he is going to have it in his resume that he was once the President of Nigeria.
Lest we forget, Jonathan never aspired to be a Deputy Governor, [they dashed him], he never aspired to be Governor [they dashed him through the worst machination of dark dagger conspiracy], he never dreamt of ever being a Vice President, [for where??] [They dashed him] and by some curious doctrine of necessity he found himself mounting the high office of President of Nigeria! Waow!
It is therefore most unkind to continue to heap verbal abuses on his person for submitting himself to be so used by forces that were cleverer and more devious and evil minded than he, Dr Goodluck Jonathan could ever have imagined.
Our first PhD holder President is not a fool. He is not an idiot. He is not an imbecile. He was only unlucky to have led a government that showed all the worst traces of an otherwise civilised society.
Our dear President Goodluck Jonathan must be spared any further verbal slings and be allowed to graciously collect his sack letter on February 14, 2015 [my son-in-law’s birthday] and peacefully enjoy the 3 months notice before handing over his wishy-washy Hand over Note to highly focused serious minded Abraham Lincoln of our time, General Muhammadu Buhari.
And that too will happen. [myad]

I Reject My Supporters That Resort To Violence, General Buhari Declares

Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari has disowned any of his supporters across the country that attack his political opponent in any form or resort to any form of violence during the ongoing political campaigns and after.
General Buhari, who was reacting to the reported attack in Jos, Plateau State capital, on the buses belonging to his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) counterpart, President Goodluck Jonathan campaign organization, condemned the attack.
Though, reports coming from Jos have indicated that the violence and burning of campaign buses was as a result of a clash between two factions of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), but the APC flag bear still condemned it in its entirety.
“I have received news of violence in Jos today. I condemn this violence in its entirety. I reject any supporter who resorts to violence. Like I said after the attack on our supporters in Rivers this week, elections are not war.
“Professor Yemi Osinbajo and I stand in total condemnation of this incident. I call on the PDP to join this call for peace. Every Nigerian life is sacred.”
General Buhari emphasized, at an event in Enugu, Anambra state, in the South East, the need for peaceful elections. [myad]

Nigeria Goes For Stick And Carrot Approach To End Boko Haram – Aminu Wali

Nigeria’s Foreign Minister, Ambassador Aminu Bashir Wali has said that Nigeria is set to employ a multi-dimensional strategy, including stick and carrot approach to bring the menace of Boko Haram to an end this year.

He told The Anadolu Agency during his visit to Turkey within the scope of the 7th annual ambassadors’ conference, which took place between Jan. 5-9 in Ankara that the government would resort to what he called “soft approach. The approach will be multi-dimensional. We are open to every way to solve this problem.”

According to Aminu Wali, the government is trying to develop programme that will create jobs, to be more inclusive and bring about more development in Nigeria, in an effort to tackle the terrorism issue in a socio-economic way.

“That will reduce the temptation for people to move into those kinds of activities. On the other hand, we are also open to negotiating. Of course, we have to identify whom we are talking to. This is serious willingness. We are open to the peaceful resolution of all conflicts,” he said. [myad]

I’ll Open Old Wounds In Nigeria Football House If, Barrister Igbokwe Threatens In Petition To FIFA

One of the contestants to the Board of the Nigeria Football Federation to represent the South-East zone Barrister Leonard Igbokwe has threatened to open woulds wound if the world soccer governing body, FIFA, does not act fast to address the complaint he made in a petition he sent to it.

One of the demands of Barrister Igbokwe is that FIFA should create an Arbitration Tribunal to look into his grievances. His prayer was that the NFF should disqualify Anyansi on the ground that two candidates (Anyansi and Emeka Iyama) cannot emerge from the same South-east zone.

In his petition to FIFA titled: re-creation of Arbitration Tribunal in the Nigeria Football Federation, Igbokwe wrote:

“Please accept my warm sporting regards.

“It is with deep constraints that I write again to you this year on the lingering crisis bedeviling the Nigeria Football Federation.

“Consequent upon your letter to me and which you copied the NFF where you declined jurisdiction in meddling with the internal workings of the NFF as well as advice without prejudice to your opinion that we should explore internal mechanism available in our system to resolve the logjam in the 30th of September, 2014 elections. I without hesitation adhered strictly to this advice and within the ambit of the NFF statutes of 2010 did formally request using the provisions of Articles 68 and 69 for the creation of an Arbitration Tribunal to resolve our grievances.

“I know as a matter of fact that two other aggrieved persons also requested for the creation of this Tribunal. It is important to state here that this is not the first time that aggrieved members of the NFF would have to resort to the creation of Arbitration Tribunal, which was granted and used to determine and solve this kind of issues in the past and peace restored.

“I was utterly shocked when it was announced that the Amaju Pinnick’s Board rejected our request for the setting up of an Arbitration Tribunal, which is properly provided in articles 68 and 69 of the NFF statutes, 2010. The NFF Arbitration Tribunal was used to settle football election matters between 2010 and 2011…

“So, I do not understand why the Amaju Pinnick’s Board refused to set up the Arbitration Tribunal which is a statutory and mandatory provision under our football statutes. The NFF Board does not have the authority or right to refuse to set up the Arbitration Tribunal as it is statutory and has been used in the above listed football election matters.

“I request FIFA to now intervene into this matter and direct the NFF to set up an Arbitration Tribunal to immediately look into our just petitions into the conduct and processes of the September 30th, 2014 election of the NFF. If FIFA does not wade in now to call Amaju Pinnick and his Board to order, I will be left with no alternative than to seek for help elsewhere.” [myad]

Sambo Gives Presidential Campaign Organisation In Kaduna Marching Order: Go Get 2 Million Votes For Jonathan

Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo has inaugurated the Kaduna State Chapter of the Goodluck/Sambo Presidential Campaign Committee yesterday with a tall order to the committee to make sure the President gets at least two million votes in the February 14 Presidential election.
The vice-president who also commissioned the newly renovated secretariat of the campaign organization expressed confidence in the ability of the state to meet this target, adding that the party has kept faith with its promises to the State by its various meaningful policies, beneficial programmes and laudable projects.
“Kaduna state is a stronghold of the People’s Democratic Party and we have the objective of surpassing our previous record of performance by generating at least two million votes for the presidential election. I have no doubt in our ability to meet this expectation in view of the wide acceptability of the party and positive indications that greater victories await our great party the People’s Democratic Party. We have always been a popular pillar of the party and we shall prove our mettle of reliability and success again.
“We have kept faith with our promises to the electorate. In 2011 we sought for their mandate which they graciously and overwhelmingly gave us. We are also of the strong belief that this time around, you will once more rally round us give us your maximum support and ensure a landslide victory for our candidates at all levels in the states as the popular jingle declares: The difference between the People’s Democratic Party and others is clear.”
Vice President Namadi Sambo said that the Jonathan administration has executed such laudable projects in the state as construction of roads, rail, power, agriculture, water resources and other infrastructural facilities which included the the 40mw Gurara power plant, the 215mw thermal Power plant in Gurara, the Kaduna-Abuja Standard Gauge rail project, the Abuja-Bwari express Way linking Kaduna State to the Federal Capital and several others. These projects, he added, have greatly improved socio-economic activities of the state.
He said that Jonathan administration has surpassed the records of previous administrations in areas of socio-economic development, particularly in the area of education where it established twelve new universities across the federation.
The Vice President also took on the opposition on the claim that the administration’s record of the fight against corruption was poor and that the government had failed to provide security as well as disenfranchising the electorate.
According to him, the administration has adopted a paradigm shift in the fight against corruption by emphasizing on prevention rather than the traditional practice of trying to cure the ailment.
“This administration has made the fight against corruption a cardinal policy. We have recorded great success in that regard through the use of multiple modern techniques. Our approach incorporates preventive strategy as a departure from the traditional approach of trying to cure an endemic ailment. In this way, we tackle every form of corruption. Our e-wallet system of fertilizer distribution, for example, has eliminated the endemic corruption in fertilizer distribution to our farmers. In the past, less than 10 percent of the fertilizer distributed to farmers gets to them due to corruption in the distribution chain. But today farmers can get their input direct from the government by simply using their mobile GSMs. This was made possible by developing a computer software using our young and innovative talents drawn from the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Industry.”
The vice-president said that the government has repositioned, strengthened and equipped anti-graft institutions to fight corruption in all its ramifications and had made several arrests and initiated the prosecutions of several cases in the country of recent.
On voting, the vice president said that the government had kept faith with its promise of ensuring that every vote counts, adding: “Our ability to ensure that we keep faith with our promise of ensuring that every vote counts is responsible for the mass distribution of the PVC cards across the federation. This was not possible in the past when results were announced even before the ballot papers reached the electorate. We have never interfered with the operations of the independence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). By equipping the body with all the necessary requirements for the conduct of free and fair elections, we have enhanced its independence”
On Boko Haram insurgency, vice-president Namadi Sambo described it as a global phenomenon but gave assurance that the nation’s armed forces has the ability to defeat the forces of evil.
“Nigeria, like other nations has found itself battling terrorists insurgency which has affected some parts of the country, especially the North-East. I assure you that very soon we shall triumph over these forces of evil as government is doing everything possible to restore peace and security to the affected communities. We are procuring sophisticated arms and ammunitions to equip our Armed Forces, and boosting their training to counter this new wave of terrorism that is threatening even the most advanced nations of the world.”
Namadi Sambos warned those taken advantage of the sordid situation in the country to desist from incisive and provocative statements, which he said are capable of overheating the polity.
“We have come a long way in our democratic journey and gone further to provide a level-playing field as well as allowing citizens to air their views and opinions in order to enhance the freedom of speech. This is one beautiful aspect of democracy we have promoted. However, some have taken this liberty for license by embarking on provocative criticism that lack substance. Nigeria belongs to all of us and everyone here is a stakeholder in the promotion of law and order and peaceful co-existence.”
Earlier, Governor Ramalan Yero of Kaduna state, who doubles as the party’s leader in the state, has called for issue-based politics and warned against acts of lawlessness which he said would be dealt with decisively. He called on the campaign organization to comb all corners of the state to take the party to victory.
