Egypt, Others In D-8 Zakat Fund Appoint Nigeria’s Ex Daily Trust CEO Into Board Of Trustee

The D-8 Zakat Fund, an initiative of eight developing countries: Egypt, Iran, Bangladesh, Turkey, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan and Nigeria, has appointed former Chief Executive Officer of Media Trust Limited, publisher of Daily Trust in Abuja, Nigeria, Alhaji Isiaq Ajibola as a Board of Trustee member of its health and social security protection initiative known as Ummah Zakat Fund( UZF).
Alhaji Ajibola, who is also an Islamic enthusiast, has been a member of the fund’s Steering Committee since its launch in Nigeria.
The programme, coordinated by the Global Director of the D-8 Health and Social Protection Programme (D-8 HSP), Dr. Ado Muhammad, is aimed at pooling about N200 billion to lift at least six million Nigerian out of poverty annually.
The fund has brought together, stakeholders from Islamic bodies, development partners, the private sector, banking institutions and governments.
It will utilise a seamless connection between the Zakat donors and beneficiaries using an application on the digital platform.
Ajibola, who is a co-founder is an ardent member of NASFAT, one of the leading Islamic societies in Nigeria, where he is currently the Chairman of the Advisory Council of NASFAT Agency for Zakat and Sadaqat at the FCT Zone.
He is also the chairman of the board of directors of the society’s communication arm-Lasilkiin Communications Ltd and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Daily Trust Foundation.
The Board of Trustees of UZF is Chaired by Alhaji Samaila Muhammad Mera, Emir of Argungu. Other members of the board are Dr. Ibrahim Muhammad Jalo; Umar Mustapha; Dr. Nihinlola T. Mabogunje; Mrs. Umma Ayuba Musa and Jubril Abdullah Salaudeen.

Peter Obi Hosts Muslims In Anambra On Sallah Day

The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP), in the last election, Peter Obi, has hosted prominent Islamic scholars in celebrating the Eid-el-Kabir in Onitsha.

Peter Obi, who welcomed the leaders of Anambra Muslim Community in his residence, said that he decided to celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir with them, to show the brotherly love and unity that should exist among Nigerians, irrespective of tribal, political or religious belief, and to start fulfilling his promise of helping to renovate the Awka and Onitsha mosques.
It would be recalled that during Peter Obi’s visit to Awka and Onitsha muslim communities in April, he promised to support them in renovating their place of worship, which was no longer in good condition. He used the opportunity of the visit to start fulfilling the promise, even as he presented both Awka and Onitsha Muslim Communities with cheques worth millions of Naira to commence the renovation projects.
Speaking at the event, the LP Presidential flag bearer said: “We are all Nigerians, and we will continue to live as one irrespective of our religious or political beliefs. What we owe each other is brotherly love and care, so we can live in peace and unity as a nation. We have no other nation but Nigeria and we must make it work.
“I know that times are difficult for everybody in the country, but if we rise above our religious, political and ethnic divisions, we will be able to surmount our challenges in unity. We will not give up on our nation, but continue to work for a New Nigeria that will be beneficial to every Nigerian.”
In his words of appreciation, the Sarki of Awka Muslim Community, Alhaji Garba Haruna said that they were thrilled by Peter Obi’s simplicity and consistency.
He said that Obi has, once again, demonstrated that he is a truly detribalised Nigerian, by making out time to mark their Sallah celebration with them.
Alhaji Haruna recalled how Obi visited their mosque in April and was displeased with the deplorable state of their mosque, and pledged to help in renovating it. He sincerely appreciated Obi for the cash gift which he said will go a long way in rebuilding the mosque.
The Sarki of Onitsha Muslim Community, Alhaji Iliyasu Yushau, said that the memories of Peter Obi’s visit to their mosque in April still stays fresh in their minds.
He said that even though he was not in Anambra then, he received reports of Obi’s good will to the community.
Alhaji Yushau said that Peter Obi had not failed in taking care of the muslim community in Anambra, even from his days as the Governor of the State.
He said that Peter Obi’s actions reflect a leader who is desirous of caring for everyone irrespective of tribe or religion.
He prayed Allah to bless and grant Peter Obi his heart desires.

How I Got Doctorate Degree At Cyprus University, 20 Year Old Nigerian Speaks

A 20 Year-Old Nigerian girl, Miss Promise Ayomide Adekola, who graduated with a Doctor of Pharmacy from Cyprus International University, spoke in an interview with Vanguard’s BIODUN BUSARI.

Here are excerpts:

Que: Can you tell us about yourself and your school?

My name is Promise Ayomide Adekola. I studied at the University of Rome Tor Vergata and Cyprus International University, earning a Dual Masters of Pharmacy degree from both institutions. I just finished my PharmD at Cyprus International University.

Que: Which year did you leave Nigeria and what are the educational requirements to get admission into a Cyprus university?

In 2017, at the age of 14, I left Nigeria. My admission was based on passing the necessary 5 credits in my WAEC result.

Que: What informed your decision of studying Pharmacy at a Cyprus university?

During my secondary school education, I had an interest in a health-related course but was hesitant about dealing with open injuries and witnessing patients in pain. Pharmacy seemed like a way to help people while avoiding those situations. I chose to pursue it. My parents recommended studying in Cyprus due to its friendly environment, affordable tuition, and quality education. It was an opportunity I don’t regret accepting.

Que: What are the experiences and challenges faced in studying abroad?

One of the challenges I faced was the language barrier, but I learned Turkish while in school, which helped me overcome this problem. Additionally, starting university at a young age and finding the right company were challenges, but I eventually found supportive friends who contributed to my success and personal growth. Studying abroad has been a wonderful experience. I have met people from various countries, learned about different cultures, and received an excellent education at Cyprus International University. The university has valuable global partnerships, which even gave me the opportunity to study in Italy.

Que: Can you tell us about your previous academic achievements in other schools before proceeding to Cyprus?

In secondary school, I ranked 10th out of approximately 200 students in JSS2 and received a scholarship for my SS1 to SS2 education.

Que: What are the factors responsible for your success for others to learn from you?

Firstly, I attribute my achievements to God’s grace, as I faced distractions and discouragement as a student. Determination, proper time management, and diligence were also crucial in helping me succeed. I focused on studying, avoided unnecessary distractions, and aimed to make my parents and God proud.

Que: What is your next step after this great success?

My future plan is to pursue a PhD in Pharmacy and fulfil my passion for teaching.

Que: How do you intend to contribute your quota to your home country, Nigeria?

I aspire to contribute to research and development in Nigeria, establish a community pharmacy, and educate my community about healthy lifestyles, proper medication usage, and disease prevention.

Qie: What advice will you give to the Nigerian government to improve the educational system and the country as a whole?

My advice to the Nigerian government is to increase investment in education and ensure curriculum relevance. Education is not the sole path to success, but it can be a significant route towards it.

Que: What are your perspectives on Nigerian students, doctors and lecturers leaving the country to relocate abroad?

Well, it all depends on the availability of quality education. If there is sufficient practical knowledge and experience available, people would definitely choose to stay. However, due to the lack of these opportunities, many individuals opt to leave. It would be better for individuals to remain in their own country, but the lack of employment opportunities, insecurity, and other issues force many to leave. The Nigerian government should prioritize addressing these problems, and the issue of emigration will be resolved.

Osun APC Explains How Gov Adeleke Caused Confusion In Osogbo Muslim Praying Ground

The Osun State Chapter of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned invasion of the Muslim Praying Ground at Oke-Bale, Osogbo by Governor Ademola Adeleke and supporters who are loyal to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with some soldiers and policemen.

In a statement today, June 28, the state chairman of the APC, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, said that the entire scenario which culminated in a rancorous scene orchestrated by Governor Adeleke and his political hoodlums amounted to executive lawlessness.

The statement, which was issued on behalf of the chairman by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi, in Osogbo, said that without prior notification by the advanced party and protocol unit of the Governor’s Office, Governor Adeleke’s handlers badged into the Muslim Praying Ground and ordered a respected leader of Osogbo, Alhaji Tunde Badmus, the Asiwaju of Osogboland and Senator Ajibola Bashiru, whom Adeleke to vacate ⁶where they were already seated and that it was the choice of the space for the governor.

It statement said that it was an attempt to forcefully remove Alhaji Badmus and Senator Bashiru from their seats at the praying ground and subsequent executive order by Governor Adeleke who hails from Ede, to the police to effect the arrest of the two prominent sons of Osogbo that degenerated into the confusion which engulfed the scene.

It said that the governor who left the scene before the beginning of the Eid-Eil-Kabir prayers session issued an order to close the gate of the entrance of the praying ground in order to effect the arrest of Alhaji Badmus and Bashiru.

“The indigenes of Osogbo, who saw no reason for the arrest, resisted the development, which resulted in the ensuing rancorous scene.”

APC said that Governor Adeleke did not even alight from his official vehicle throughout the duration of the crisis, “which makes nonsense of those who are reporting an assassination attempt on the governor.”

The party condemned the needless heating up of the polity by Adeleke and his co-travellers, advising him to go and sort out himself with the aggrieved members of his party whom he has been having a running battle with in recent times.

The statement recalled how Governor Adeleke was attacked by some disenchanted members of the PDP in Ikirun sometime ago when he went to commission the Osogbo-Ikirun road of which the immediate past Governor Gboyega Oyetola had achieved its 75 percent completion.

It also recalled that within the last one week, so many aggrieved members of the PDP and their allies in the dissolved Rauf Aregbeola-led The Osun Progressives (TOP), have been publishing copious stories and video recordings with which they have been lambasting Governor Adeleke and regretted having to have identified with his political camp.

The Osun State APC chairman registered his disdain for the use of the soldiers in the convoy of a governor, advising the new Army Chief of Staff to look into the anomaly of security architecture in Osun State and promptly redress the situation.

Lawal said that his understanding of protocol is that if a governor is to visit a place of which a praying ground is included, it’s the duty of the advanced party of the governor and his protocol unit to make a solid preparation with reference to the security of sitting arrangement.

The APC chairman observed that there was no reason why such lapses of the government protocols would not be experienced since the statutory security agents, the DSS, who were with Governor Adeleke before have not been brought back after there was an allegation that one of them was slapped by a female member of the governor’s family.

“The way and manner that the conventional policemen attached to the governor who are performing the statutory role of the DSS officers dress, has exposed them as heavily deficient in their strange assignment.

“We, in the APC, won’t tolerate the needless heating up of the polity and disturbance of public peace by someone who is supposed to be the state security officer of the state.”

How I Escaped Assassination By APC Thugs At Osogbo Eid Ground – Gov Adeleke

Governor Ademola Adeleke has narrated how he escaped being assassinated at the Osogbo Eid ground today June 28, allegedly by the All Progressives Congress (APC) thugs.

The governor, in a statement by his spokesperson, Malam Olawale Rasheed, noted with shock and surprise, the role played by former Senator Ajibola Bashiru, who took over the space reserved for the governor at the prayer ground.

“All efforts to get the former Senator to vacate the space proved abortive.

“PDP members who agitated for respect for the office of the governor were beaten up. It was chaotic scene which the governor walked into when he arrived at the ground for the eid prayer.

The statement condemned the orchestrated attacks by stalwarts of the APC at the praying ground, recalling an earlier security alert to an evil plot to destabilize the peace and stability of Osun state.

The governor expressed more shock that thugs armed to the teeth were spotted all over the praying ground with security information that they were imported to eliminate him and key government functionaries.

Report had it that governor Adeleke had arrived at the venue hoping to observe the Eid prayers but was practically surrounded by armed thugs, prompting security men to ferry him into his jeep.

The statement said that for the second time, the governor attempted to enter the praying field, but the encirclement by armed thugs was already visible.

“It was at that point that the governor had to leave the praying ground.

“The governor is now safely at home, receiving guests and leaders from all walks of life.”

Meanwhile, the governor has directed security agencies to arrest those behind the incident and get them to face the wrath of the law.

“The Commissioner of Police has been directed to arrest those involved no matter how highly placed.”

The statement quoted Governor Adeleke as appealing for calm, thanking God for preserving him and his team.

“My good people of Osun, I appeal for calm and urge us to continue to celebrate the Sallah festival in peace. I am safe by the special grace of God.”

Senator Ben Murray-Bruce has described the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu as True Superman.

The 67-year-old, who shared photos of his visit to the NSA today, June 28, on Instagram, said that Ribadu, the pioneer chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), is equal to the task.

Nigeria Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima has assured that prompt attention will be given by the Tinubu administration towards addressing the infrastructural deficits in the country.

The Vice President gave the assurance today, June 28, when he paid a Sallah homage to the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Ibn Garbai El-Kanemi in Maiduguri.

Shettima said that all the infrastructural challenges in the country would be tackled, including the Gamboru Ngala, Dikwa as well as Damboa roads in Borno State.

Speaking, the Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Zulum, extolled the virtues of the Vice President as a man of the people, a grassroot politician, adding that being the first visit of Vice President Shettima to the State.

We Won’t Negotiate With Bandits – Zamfara Govt: Vows To Fight Them

The Zamfara government has made it clear that it has no intention of negotiating with bandits to address security challenges in the state.

Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abubakar Nakwada, while addressing newsmen in Gusau, emphasized that the present administration of Governor Dauda Lawal had no intention of reconciling with bandits.

Before now, there were speculations that the state government had embarked on the secret reconciliation process with bandits.

“The present administration of Lawal have no intention of negotiating with criminals. We are prepared to work in collaboration with security agencies in the fight against insecurity.”

The SSG lamented that the immediate past administration of governor Bello Matawalle, wasted billions of naira on projects that had no direct bearing on the common man.

He said that the state government would follow legal processes to recover all misappropriated funds by the past administration.

He called on the people in the state to continue to support the government on its policies and programmes toward addressing security challenges and reducing socio-economic hardship in the state.

Nakwada announced Lawal’s directives of suspending all permanent secretaries and traditional rulers appointed by the immediate past administration after the 2023 general elections.

Menace Of Cattle Herders Occupying Abuja Main Streets Worries Government

The government of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has expressed worry over the menace of cattle herders that used to occupy some Abuja major roads with their cows.

As a result, the Director in the Department of Security Services, Adamu Gwary has directed security agencies to take appropriate measures in curtailing the menace immediately.

The security agencies were also directed to checkmate the activities of scavengers, popularly known as Baban bola among others around the federal Capital city.

Adamu said that the upcoming G7 meeting slated for July 5th in the FCT, will herald the operations across the contiguous states to the FCT.

The G7 security operations is a collaborative efforts between the FCT and its contiguous States, including Nasarawa, Plateau, Kogi, Niger and Kaduna States.

The collaboration is set to tackle the menace of kidnappings and other violent crimes in the FCT and its surrounding States in the coming weeks.

The FCT Administration is hosting the meeting for the Technical Committee, which comprises the heads of the security agencies, the members States’ Commissioners of Police, the Director of Security and the Commandant of the NSCDC.

There is the military component too, the Army Headquarters Garrison and the Defence Headquarters are part of the meeting.

They are expected to discuss and agree on modalities and approach to the clearance exercise.
