“We have a number of challenges. We started as a dominant political party in 1999 and since then, we have been receding. “I think it is time for us to take stock and find out why we are receding and how we can make sure that our eminent position as the leading political party in this country, as the oldest political party in this country, we regain our position. “This is a very important challenge which I think requires a whole day seminar for us as a party to ensure that we regain our eminent position in the politics of this country and the whole of Africa.” These were the words of the Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 25 election, Atiku Abubakar at a programme welcome/reception of PDP governors-elect and send forth of the past PDP Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF) chairmen in Abuja. Atiku, who served as Nigeria’s Vice President on the platform of the same PDP, regretted that the PDP formed in 1999 as a dominant political party, is passing through challenges that must be addressed. He therefore, strongly advised party members to rise up and revamp the party to regain its eminent and dominant leadership role in Nigeria and Africa. Atiku congratulated all the governors-elect and those re-elected on the platform of the party, asking all party members to be united and determined in the party effort to reclaim its mandate at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT). The programme with the theme: “Good Governance at the Sub-national level: Issues, Perspectives, Expectations and Outcomes” was organised by the PDP-GF.
Asuku, the son of late Dr. Onukaba Adinoyi Ojo, who served as Media assistant to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has completed software engineering course at the American University of Nigeria (AUN), established in Yola, capital of Adamawa State, by Atiku.
Information reaching us at Greenbarge Reporters online newspaper and hardcopy magazine, said that after the death of his father in 2017, Atiku offered full scholarship to Asuku to study Software Engineering at the American University of Nigeria.
Dr. Adinoyi Ojo, a journalist, playwright, author and public affairs commentator, died in March 2017. He was the first Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Atiku from where he became Managing Director of Daily Times of Nigeria.
Asuku will join the graduating class at the 14th Commencement Ceremony of the American University of Nigeria on May 27th.
Ms. Chinememma, daughter of another deceased Atiku Media aide, Emmanuel Ugoji, also received a full scholarship from Atiku Abubakar. She majored in law at the same AUN.
Late Ugoji was public relations expert and communication strategist who served in the Atiku Media Office, Abuja.
The candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the February 25 presidential election, Peter Obi said that he is not in a hurry to become Nigeria’s president.
Speaking today, May 12, during the unveiling of the book: ‘Peter Obi: many voices, one perspective’ in Anambra State, insisted however that he ‘must be president’ of Nigeria in the nearest future.
The Labour Party candidate said that he is not struggling to free Nigeria from bad leadership for the elites alone but for every Nigerian.
The former Anambra State governor said that he is more concerned about the process that brings leaders to office, and not who the leader is.
“Anyone who thinks I am on a transit is wasting his time. Let me tell you, I must be the president of this country. I am sure of that. If it is not today, it must be tomorrow.
“Other people who want to be, should come and tell us what they want to do, and how to do it. This is my country, I don’t have dual citizenship. If anyone thinks I am going to run away from Nigeria, they are lying.
“I have three engagements in Anambra and Lagos today. I will be speaking in Lagos tonight. We will not leave Nigeria. I am not in a hurry to become the president, but I know it must happen.
“For three years, I was in court in Anambra to reclaim my mandate, just to challenge the process. Many people tried to discourage me, but I said even if the entire four years tenure elapsed for us to prove a point and correct the process, I will be fulfilled.
“My argument is that, let’s do what is right. I always tell everyone that I will not give people money to do the wrong thing. I have been the chairman of a committee; TETFUND committee, and Prof. Yakubu Mahmud was my member. We know ourselves, but when he became INEC chairman, I have never met him. I told him, you are an umpire, just do what is right.
“If you have the chance to do the right thing, and you insist on perpetuating anarchy, then, it will consume everybody one day. I insist that we must do the right thing.
“I was at an event yesterday in Abuja, and it was World Food Organisation. I listened to report that stated that Nigeria will face intense hunger in years to come. It is Nigeria that will face hunger, not Peter Obi.
“The report listed Borno, Adamawa and Yobe as the states that will be worse hit, but those three states put together are five times larger in land mass of Israel, yet Egypt exports food, but Nigeria cannot feed itself.’
On his part, the chairman of the occasion and traditional ruler of Onitsha, Obi Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, in his speech expressed hope that Obi will reclaim his presidential mandate.
“I was still a new traditional ruler many years ago, when I was invited to a meeting where some monarchs were trying to settle a matter between the then Anambra governor Chris Ngige and Obi over the governorship tussle.
“I was a new traditional ruler, so I was just listening to the conversations. Obi did not attend the meeting, but his representative said Obi sent a message that he is more interested about knowing the truth, and ensuring that the process is credible next time, and that he was not willing to back down, even if it meant remaining in court even after the tenure.
“It took him three years, but he was later restored. His representative then said, Obi only wants the truth to be known, and even if it happened after the expiration of his tenure. Also, when he was impeached, he told everyone that he would return, and he returned.
“Later, there was an election, and Andy Uba replaced Obi. He called me again and said that these people want to spoil our country. I had also heard that the judgment was to be delivered the next day, and that it may be against Peter. He (Obi) called me and he said he was confident that he would return as governor. I am saying this because this is a man I know very well. Someone called him man of the moment, but I choose to say that he is a man of destiny.”
Snail-Speed work on Calabar-Ita, Cross River State, is threatening the take off of the Odupkani industrial park, put together by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB). The industrial park, which is believed to have the capacity of leading the country to full industrialisation, is currently cut-off by almost un-motorable road network from Uyo end, in Akwa Ibom State. Report reaching us at Greenbarge Reporters online newspaper and hardcopy magazine, said that contractors have returned to site, clearing the road and fixing some bridges. It was gathered that though work is ongoing but that with the return of the rainy season, not much might be done to meet up with the fast pace the industrial village is spriging up. A team of online publishers, drawn from the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) who were on a guided tour of the project, confirmed that the over 100 kilometres of the road which stretches from Calabar in Cross River State to Itu in Akwa-Ibom State has been neglected by successive governments for over 20 years. A motorist, who pleaded anonymous, expressed regret that the road, which has attracted budgetary approvals for repairs by four successive Federal government authorities, has remained unattended to. He said that the first budget to fix the road was passed during the former President Olusegun Obasanjo regime. “But it was unattended to in spite of the budget. “When nothing came out of the Obasanjo regime’s budget proposal, the former President Goodluck Jonathan administration came and also captured it in one of their annual budgets. “This also did not achieve anything. This ritual moved to the President Muhammadu Buhari administration. “President Buhari included the road in two annual budgets during his first term in office between 2015 and 2019; but no work was done. “The same administration captured the road in the budgets of 2020, 2021, and 2023. This is 2023, you can see that the road is still a nightmare for motorists.” He expressed pain that the road, which serves the economic needs of the people of both Akwa-Ibom and Cross River States, could pose a major threat to the NCDMD’s industrial park under construction as it is not likely that serious investors would take up any space there with the road as presently is. The Park is a masterpiece that was well-thought out by the NCDMB to ramp up the manufacturing capacity of indigenous hands with the aim of kick-starting manufacturing of inputs for real industrialisation of Nigeria.
Former chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), known as G-37 have condemned the alleged taking over of the functions of the Board of Directors of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) by the management, especially on the issues concerning major procurement. In a statement today, May 11, by its chairman, Prophet Jones Ode Erue and secretary, Dr. Ben Nwoye, respectively, the stakeholders described the efforts at usurping the functions of the board under any guise as a gross violation of the law that established the Commission and due process.
The stakeholders stressed that they can no longer fold their hands and watch the ongoing administrative recklessness being perpetrated against the Board, saying that they have to raise the alarm in order to expose the agenda of a selfish few who are bent on derailing the genuine sustainable development vision of President Muhammadu Buhari. They referred particularly to the case of the $15 billion memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the management of the Commission and a United States-based firm, Atlanta Global Resources Inc., signed recently for the construction of a mega rail line that would connect the nine states of the Niger Delta region without the consent of the Board. They said that the situation where the management would be carrying out such a multi billion Dollar contract and leaving the Board out was completely unacceptable, adding that these were some of the issues that tends to divide the Commission and make it difficult to deliver its mandate to better the lives of the people in the region. Recall that the Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission, Samuel Ogbuku, recently signed an MoU on behalf of the Commission with a US-Based firm, Atlanta Global Resources Inc., for the construction of a mega rail line that would connect the nine states of the Niger Delta region. But reacting to the MoU, the Chairman of the Commission, Lauretta Onochie, distanced herself from the controversial $15 billion contract, declaring the contract as illegal, null and void. Onochie, in a statement, had said that the NDDC Management lacked the powers to sign the MoU without the Board’s approval. “The Board’s attention has been drawn to a publication in some national dailies of the purported signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between a US firm, Atlanta Global Resources Inc. and the NDDC, whose Board I chair, for the construction of a mega rail project across the Niger Delta, from Lagos to Calabar. “This was done without my knowledge and without the authorization, nor consent of the Board. “Everything about this shady ‘MOU’ is illegal due to the act establishing the NDDC (Act No 6, of 2000); it is the Chairman of the board that is solely vested with the power to sign MOUs with any organisation.” Reacting, the APC-G37 noted that the position of the Board’s Chairman represents the generality of the opinion of the people of Niger Delta region and urged the Management to act accordingly with the provisions of the enabling act setting up the Commission for the betterment of the people of the region. The group condemned calls for the sack of the Board’s Chairman, describing it as “an unwarranted exercise aimed at blackmailing and derailing Lauretta Onochie, who is determined to execute the vision of President Muhammadu Buhari of running a transparent and diligent Commission in line with the best global practices.”
The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) is setting the pace for true industrialization of the country with the near completion of the Nigerian Oil & Gas Park Scheme (NOGAPS) in Odukpani in Cross River State. Speaking to media men and women today , May 11, before a tour of the expansive park, the General Manager of Corporate Communications and Zonal Coordination Division at the NCDMB, Dr. Ginah O. Ginah said that the work on the Park are at various levels of completion. He said that already, interested oil and gas related companies have started applying for spaces at the Park. The director said that Odupkani Park is being developed along with the one in Bayelsa, in conjunction with key International Oil Companies (IOC) towards full industrialisation of the country.
The Executive Secretary, NCDMB), Engr. Simbi Kesiye Wabote
According to him, the parks would incubate the manufacturing of equipment components utilized in the oil and gas industry. Dr. Ginah said that already, federal government had approved a $50 million fund for the Scheme, especially the production of manufacturing line. The General Manager said that arrangements have been made to ensure seamless operations by provding adequate security, made up of combined team of mobile policemen and local security men. Dr. Ginah hinted that NCDMB is also working to develop oil and gas Parks at Oguta in Imo, at Onne in Akwa Ibom, Ilaje in Ondo State and in Delta. The General Manager assured the people in the host community that their interests would be adequately addressed. According to him, provisions have been made to ensure that indigenes are carried along properly in line with the Community Guideline Content developed by the NCDMB. He said that the Odukpani Park is already supplying the host community with clean water, and other facilities such as employment opportunities, training for unskilled and semi-skilled indigenes, capacity building as well as scholarship programs.
The site Engineer, Engr. Sunday who spoke on the facilities at the Park, said that the administrative block housing a banking hall, restaurant and sick bay has been completed. He said that the capacity building block is also fully ready and that it has an auditorium that can accommodate 200 people with six classrooms for training purposes. Oher facilities include state-of-the-art Information Technology Centre (ICT), hostels, water treatment building, recreation area, Helipad, maintenance building, fire service, security gate house and Mini Parks.

Nigeria’s first oil and gas park will soon begin to operate in Odupkani in Cross River State, even as more of it kind are similarly rising up in different parts of the Niger Delta part of the country. The Parks are being put together by the Nigerian Content Development & Monitoring Board (NCDMB) to save the country from cash flight through foreign oil and gas companies. The Director of Corporate Communications of NCDMB, Engineer Ginah O. Ginah, who spoke today, May 11, during a media tour of the park located in Odukpani, Cross River State, said: “this park is ready for habitation.
“We have already advertised for interested manufacturers and are presently going through applications to see those who are qualified.” Engr Ginah said that all needed facilities have been provided to make the place conducive for the manufacturers. The facilities include manufacturing hall, security, roads, 24-hour power supply, banking hall, restaurant, and state-of-the-art ICT facilities. Others include fire service, water treatment plant, mini parks for accommodation and free land for those who wish to build their own structures. “All these are things that increase cost of production. So, this park is going to crash the cost of production.” Engr. Ginah said that the facility, located on 25 hectares of land will go a long way to save the country some foreign exchange in billion of dollars. He said that the Federal Government has encouraged the rapid take off of the project with a pledge of $50m to attract companies to the parks. Engr Ginah said that several other such parks are under construction across the Niger Delta as part of NCDMB’s efforts to significantly increase local content in the oil and gas industry and generally drive Nigeria’s industrialisation. “We have taken Nigeria’s local content level from 5% to 55%. The industry spends about $20 billion a year, so you are talking of about $10 billion saved annually.” Engr Ginah stressed that NCDMB’s goal is to take the local content in the industry up to 70 percent by 2027. “The only way to achieve that is to ensure local manufacturing of components, which is why we are building these parks.”
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has made it clear that the Bank Verification Number (BVN) issued by the Bank in collaboration with the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) has no expiring date, contrary to the scammed news going round that it would expire after a ten-year period. “Contrary to these claims, we wish to clarify that the BVN issued in Nigeria has no expiry date.” In a statement, the Acting Director, Corporate Communications Department of the apex Bank, Dr. Isa Abdulmumin said that once a customer’s biometrics have been captured and enrolled in the database of NIBSS, the BVN remains for life. “However, the Regulatory Framework for BVN issued by the CBN in 2021 stipulates that customers can only change their records due to certain conditions spelt out in the document and after being cleared by relevant authorities. “Therefore, we urge bank customers in the country, especially those whose biometrics have been captured by the system, to continue using their unique identifiers as they last their entire lifetime. “Be guided accordingly.”
The Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Simbi Kesiye Wabote
The Federal High Court sitting in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State has ruled that the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has the power and authority to collect the one percent Nigerian Content Development Fund (NCDF) levy from every contract awarded in the Nigerian oil and gas upstream transaction as mandated under section 104 of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act. The judgment was delivered yesterday), May 9, in the case instituted by a group of Nigerian Drilling Companies known as Incorporated Trustees of the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) against the NCDMB, seeking to stop the collection of one percent NCDF levy. The IADC members had filed the lawsuit – Suit No.FHC/YNG/CS/178/2022 challenging the powers of NCDMB to demand the one percent NCDF levy from their members and contractors, contrary to the clear provisions of section 104 (2) of the NOGICD Act which states that “the sum of one percent of every contract awarded to any operator, contractor, subcontractor, alliance partner or any other entity involved in any project, operation, activity, or transaction in the upstream sector of the Nigeria oil and gas industry shall be deducted at source and paid into the Fund.” The group also obtained an ex parte injunction against the Board prohibiting the demand, collection or anything whatsoever either by itself or through its agents, representatives, or privies in relation to NCDF payment or remittance from their members and contractors pending the final determination of the lawsuit. The Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Simbi Kesiye Wabote confirmed that the Board vigorously contested the issues in court and effectively countered the arguments of the plaintiffs. “Hence, on Tuesday 9th May 2023, the Federal High Court finally gave judgment in favour of the Board, dismissing the suit and prayers of the plaintiffs as wholly incompetent, baseless and that the suit did not disclose any reasonable cause of action. The interim injunction earlier granted ex parte on the 19th of July 2022 was also vacated.” Wabote said that the decision would strengthen the Board’s resolve and commitment to Nigerian content implementation regardless of any headwind or distraction. The NCDF is NCDMB’s only source of funding sequel to the exit of the Board from federal allocation in 2017/2018. The NCDF is applied towards funding the implementation of Nigerian content development in the Nigerian oil and gas industry, notably projects, programmes and activities directed at increasing Nigerian content in the oil and gas industry.
