I Will Implement State Police , Atiku Tells Edo Supporters In Benin

The presidential candidate of the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has promised to implement the policy of state police to address the security challenges in the country if elected in the 2023 general election.

Speaking today, October 22 at his campaign rally in Benin City, Edo State, Atiku also promised to revive Nigeria’s ailing economy by partnering with the private sector to ensure factories and industries resume operation for production.

He said that reviving the now moribund factories and industries would create an avenue for more job opportunities for the teeming youth population.

“Today, we are before you to restate our commitment. I will restate our five-program commitment to the people of Nigeria.

“We promised to revive the economy. We will make sure factories and industries resume production in this country. We will make sure there are enough jobs for our youths. This is what we mean by reviving the economy.

“We will work together with the private sector to make sure that industries and factories, particularly in Edo, resume operation so that there will be enough jobs for you.”

Listing other sectors in his five-point agenda, the presidential hopeful assured that he would improve infrastructure by rehabilitating roads that will link Edo to other regions and provide an efficient rail system for seamless interstate movement of goods and services.

“We will and shall, together with the private sector, make sure we have rail established system across this country so that you can move freely. And so that goods and services can move across this country.

“We have promised to reunify this country. This means that we are going to give every part of this country a sense of belonging. You will not be excluded from anything. And that is why we are being referred to as the unifier of our great nation.

“We will restore security. Whatever it is going to take us to do, we shall restore security in this country so that you can travel day and night, go to your farms and go anywhere secured. By that, what we mean is that we will put more policemen in the streets, we will equip and fortify them.

“Since we have promised to devolve more powers to the state and local government,  you can also have your local police. We shall make sure your local police don’t harass you.

“We will send back all our eligible children to school. If you remember, during the PDP years, we established primary school education and made it compulsory in secondary schools.

“We were tasking Nigerians to educate these children but this All Progressives Congress (APC) government is not keeping to that promise. The nation’s universities will not go on strike. I assure you by the grace of God. I promise you that.”

The presidential hopeful who said APC is not a party to be supported owing to the prevailing challenges facing the citizens, urged Edo people to continue to support and stand by the umbrella party.

“You have seen how APC has destroyed this country, destroyed the economy of this country, destroyed educational opportunities and job opportunities. APC is not a party to be supported. Therefore, we call on you to be loyal to PDP and PDP will be loyal to you all.

“By the grace of God, I am here with many leaders of the party, they have done it before. We have seen what Governor Godwin Obaseki has done in Edo State, what Governor Emmanuel Udom is doing in Akwa-Ibom State and what Aminu Tambuwal is doing in Sokoto State. Go to any PDP state, and you will development in education, and infrastructure but when you go to any APC-controlled state you will not find anything there.

“Therefore, my brothers and sisters, my fellow people of Edo State, I have come here to make this undertaking and I promise you, we will fulfil our promises,” he added.

Ifeanyi Okowa, Delta State governor and the party’s vice presidential candidate, said that with collective efforts, Atiku will get the votes that will make him become president in the election.

“I am one of you and together we shall deliver the votes that will make Atiku become president of this country. By the special grace of God, we will work with the governor and all of you to deliver Nigeria from hunger, poverty and insecurity.”

The national chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu, said that the candidates were carefully selected because of their outstanding performances and experiences in governance, urging Nigerians to vote massively for them.

Earlier, the host Governor, Godwin Obaseki, who described Edo as the heartbeat of PDP, said: “Today, we are doing what our leaders did in 1999 when PDP was established and produced the president at that time.”

The Legacy group, a faction of the party in the state, led by the National Vice Chairman (South-South), Chief Dan Orbih, were absent at the rally.

In a viral video, Suleman confirmed that the attack was an assassination attempt on his life.
He made it clear that no one could kill him or cut his ministry short.
Apostle Suleman said that when his antagonists discovered that the numerous sexual allegations against him were futile, they resorted to make attempt on his life.

He said he would not do that.

Nigeria Messes Up USA, Sails To Semi In FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Tournament

Nigeria’s Flamingos sent its American counterpart out of the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup competition with a 4-3 win yesterday, October 21.
The saving grace was the Nigeria goalkeeper, Faith Omilana, who overstretched herself to save shots at the penalty shootouts, after the two teams ended one goal at peace at full time.
This was the first time the Flamingos has made it to the last four in the history of the competition.
The quarter-final encounter at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai was delayed due to adverse weather.
The game ended in a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes with Omilana making a number of crucial saves to keep the Flamingos in the mix.
The 16-year-old goalkeeper also saved two penalties to help the Flamingos beat the Americans.
USA pinned back the Flamingos early in the game , but it was the Nigerian girls that scored the curtain raiser.
Amina Bello was fouled inside the box by an American on 25 minutes and the centre referee rightly pointed to the spot.
Edafe Omamuso sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to hand the Flamingos the lead.
Amalia Villarreal equalised for USA five minutes before the break.
Both teams could not be separated after 90 minutes and penalty was needed to determine the winner.
In the end, the Flamingos converted four, while the Americans only scored three of their spot kicks.

We Inherited Rotten Systemic Corruption, But Managed To Make Nigeria Stable -Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that the All Progressives Congress (APC), on whose platform he has been in power in the last over seven years has every reason to be proud of its achievements “amid the inherited systemic corruption and local challenges of insecurity.”

According to him, despite the unfavourable circumstances of global economic downturns, the Covid-19 pandemic, and very low international oil prices resulting in low revenue, the APC-led government has ”managed to make Nigeria stable,” laying a solid foundation for progressive growth.

The President, who spoke today, October 21,  at the unveiling of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) and the Action Plan of the APC Presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, pledged to be at the forefront of electing the former Lagos State governor as his successor.

He said that electing Tinubu would consolidate the achievements of his administration as the presidential candidate has the capacity, visionary leadership and track record to do more.

“It would be disastrous to allow a situation that will lead to the reversal of the progress our country has made. Let me add that I joyfully accept the position of the chairman of the campaign council we are unveiling today.

“Our candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is too well known for his capacity and can-do spirit. He stands tall in his track records as a democrat, a champion of the rule of law, a man at home in every part of our country, and a truly visionary leader. All you need to do is think of Lagos in 1999 and 2022!

“I, therefore, want to assure all party members and supporters of our government that I will be at the forefront of this campaign.

“This election is even more important than the election of 2015 that brought us into power. The cost of losing the gains our country has made is much more than the need to stop the haemorrhage that led to our coming together nearly nine years ago.

“I want to charge every member to put in all their efforts during the next four and half months of campaign to ensure we record a resounding victory in all our elections nationwide. The future of this country is safer in our hands.”

The President said that under his watch, Nigeria’s security personnel are better equipped and motivated, adding that the exploits of the Nigerian Armed Forces in the battlefield have led to massive and successive operational successes in the quest to secure the country and provide adequate protection for lives and property of all citizens.

“The efforts of our men and women in the armed forces over the last years are beginning to yield positive outcomes. We are gradually taking back our country from foreign-inspired bandits, kidnappers, and terrorists in the northeast and northwest and other parts of our country.

“We are equally combating separatists, oil thieves and bandits in the southeast and south-south of the country

“Our administration remains committed to progressively eliminating all flashpoints of insecurity nationwide. We would triumph over the enemies of our country; in whatever forms and shapes they appear.”

President Buhari also scored his administration high on infrastructure, saying: ”our commitment to stimulate our nation’s economy through massive infrastructural development has not been misplaced.

“We are already seeing the unprecedented infrastructure across the country. The real impacts of our efforts will be felt more as the various projects are completed and put to use in the coming days.”

The President who described the APC President candidate as ”the Jagaban, my friend, partner, and brother,” said the occasion was important to him for two reasons.

”First, it is significant to note that this unveiling is the third by our Party. I have had the opportunity of unveiling two Action Plans. I had the privilege of presenting our party’s manifesto of Change in 2014.

“It was a manifesto that signposted our collective desire to arrest the directionless journey our country was headed under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). The second time was in 2018 when I unveiled the Next Level agenda of our government.

“The second reason this occasion is significant is that we are having our first transition within our party where I am in the last year of my two-term mandate, and we have a new candidate to lead our party into another Presidential election.

“The events preceding our Presidential primaries and the conduct of the primaries were important milestones in the development of our internal democracy and party politics.

“I must congratulate the leadership of our party, other stakeholders, and the entire party members for the success of the exercise. We can say with confidence, that our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), is charting a steady course in our journey towards enthroning lasting democratic culture in our body polity.”

The President also thanked party officials in the National Executive Council, the Zonal, State, Senatorial, Local Government, and Ward executives for their unalloyed support to his administration and the great efforts and outstanding commitment to the cause of the party and democracy.

He urged them to be mindful of the importance of building a strong and purposeful political party, recounting that the project of pulling ”Nigeria back from the precipice in 2015 was made possible by putting together a formidable party peopled by many who have made a vow to work for a Nigeria we all can be proud of.”

President Buhari charged party members to uphold the supremacy of the party, operating within the guidelines as stipulated in their Constitution.

“It is worth reiterating the fact that we are stronger today only because we continue to support the Party.

“For us to develop an enduring democracy in our country, we must first subscribe to the supremacy of our Political Party.

“We must subject ourselves to the rules and learn to operate within the guidelines as stipulated in our Party’s Constitution.”

He challenged party members to see themselves as ”ambassadors of progressive principles and exemplify the best of us in their action and words.”

In his remarks, Tinubu declared: “I seek to become the next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria because I know the way.

“My experience and past performance have shown that it will be through collective effort and national endeavour that we join hands, cross the divides and achieve our vision. I ask you to join Senator Shettima and I on this journey.”

On his Agenda for Renewed Hope for Nigeria, the APC Presidential candidate said that standing on the foundation emplaced by the current administration, his administration will among other things, build a Nigeria, especially for the youth, where sufficient jobs with decent wages create a better life.

He said that his administration would export more and import less in order to earn more foreign exchange and strengthen the naira.

“We will deliver food security and affordability by continuing to prioritise agriculture and assist farmers and other players in the agricultural value chain through the enlightened agricultural policy that promotes productivity and guarantees robust income.

“We will modernise and expand public infrastructure to stimulate economic growth at an optimal rate. Generate, transmit and distribute affordable electricity to give our people the necessary power to drive their businesses and brighten their homes.

“Our national economy will grow, succeed and be respected. We will embolden and support young people and women to participate more in politics and governance, harnessing emerging sectors such as the digital economy, entertainment, tourism, sports to build today, for the Nigeria of tomorrow.”

Tinubu also promised to provide economic opportunities to people living with disability, the poor and vulnerable, saying ”we will build a Nigeria where no parent is compelled to send a child to bed hungry.”

He added that his administration will also make basic healthcare, education, and housing accessible and affordable for all.

On security, Tinubu promised to establish “a bold and assertive policy that will create a strong yet adaptive national security architecture and action to obliterate terror, kidnapping, banditry, and other crimes from the face of our nation.”

National Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Adamu, said that the APC is set for self-succession in 2023 presidential and general elections, buoyed by ”the dint of hardwork, perseverance, discipline, good governance and far-reaching policies of the Buhari administration which has pulled back Nigeria from the brink and stabilised the country.”

Ex President Jonathan Raises Eyebrow Over None Recognition Of Teachers, Others For National Awards

Goodluck Jonaathan

Former President of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has expressed worry that teachers, medical people, local government chairmen and other relevant segments of Nigeria have not been recognized for national honours.

“…Our teachers, especially those who teach at the primary and secondary levels really need to be encouraged because they have the duty to mould the children.

“When they (children) pass through that level of education and they are not moulded, they become nuisance to society.

“I went to Akwa Ibom not too long ago for a programme similar to this where people are recognised and I was quite impressed. One secondary school teacher was honoured by the governor.

“I think we need to also look at that, especially the medical officers: doctors, nurses and paramedics. Some of them have to die to save us.

“We have this experience with the COVID. During the Ebola, I vividly remember this lady, Dr. Ameyo. Of course, Babatunde Fashola remembered her very well, who saved this country from the spread of Ebola and she paid the supreme prize. She died in that process. There is no post- homous award  here.

“But I am saying there are people in the medical profession that have done similar things and are still alive. They need also to be recognised.”

The former President, who spoke today, October 21, on behalf of the 44 other prominent Nigerians that were honoured with different categories of awards by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential villa, Abuja, noted also that none of the 774 local government council chairmen across the 36 States of the country was recognized for national the awards.

“Let me use this unique opportunity to make a little observation. We have 36 states. And out of 36 states, from the list, 16 governors were recognised this morning.

“And I ask myself, out of the 774 local government chairmen, not even one is here with us.

“Mr. Senate President and Mr. Speaker, that shows that National Assembly has some work to do. Probably, we need to review and look at the structure and functions of the local governments. “If the local governments are functional and doing well, we expect one or two of them to be noticed by those who go around the country to assess people that should be recognized.

“I believe we need to do something about the local government structure in Nigeria. “Because if the local governments are working, some of the challenges we are having, even security challenges at that level of government that is very close to the people, they would have been able to nip it at that stage.

“Let me also use this unique opportunity to appeal to those who do the selection, there are some categories of people that we must also look at. It is very difficult to reach out to them and assess them.

“It is easier to assess governors because there are only 36. You can easily assess the ministers. They are not too many. Heads of parastatals are known.”

Former President Jonathan expressed appreciation to those who made awards of honour, which he said “look like the national honours that Mr. President himself has to give to people who merit them.”

“I have to commend those who have vision that when people are working for society, there should be appreciation in words or in any other form. They always say that those who more is given more is expected from them.

“You have selected 44 of us, honour us on a live television being watched all over the world. The only thing is that we promise that we will continue to do more for humanity.”

Why Corruption Still Persists In Many Countries Today – President Buhari

“At present, issues of corruption continue to affect the civil services in many countries, around the world.

“Several reasons for these issues still exist because of deeply rooted problems like nepotism, cronyism, political patronage as well as lack of transparency and accountability.”

President Muhammadu Buhari, who spoke today, October 21, at the Nigeria Excellence Awards in Public Service (NEAPS), held at the Presidential villa, Abuja, said that corruption and corruption tendencies do distract public servants from delivering on their mandate and aspirations.

“The unsystematic enforcement of law and institutional mechanisms for holding civil servants and public officials accountable for their actions will always lead to a negative impression to the citizens.”

President Buhari insisted that public Service is a public trust where officers and even employees must be accountable to the people whom they should serve at all times with utmost responsibility, integrity, loyalty, and efficiency.

“They are expected to act with patriotism and think out of the box in order to solve the many problems facing the people they lead.”

The President therefore advised leaders in the private and public sectors in Nigeria to be more mindful of their positions as “trustees of the people.”

He urged them to always work towards leaving a legacy that will be long remembered.

“I wish that leaders will arise and stand up to be counted among leaders who have distinguished themselves to do the right thing and leave their footprints on the sands of time.’’

On the award, Buhari commended the 44 recipients, saying: ” today, I am happy to have the opportunity to recognize 44 persons and organizations who have distinguished themselves across many sectors of the government and indeed, the economy.

“I am particularly happy to recognize His Excellency, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, my predecessor for his contribution to peacebuilding from the Niger-Delta region, which has snowballed into peace in the region and now, around the world. Since leaving office, he has deployed his rich experience to ensure peace in many parts of Africa and has led mediation talks in several parts of the globe.

“I want to also specially recognize Abdul Samad Rabiu, the Chairman of BUA International Limited for his interventions in Education through the BUA Foundation, the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa), and his personal philanthropic initiative. This initiative funds tertiary education institutions in Nigeria from its yearly $100million ASR Africa Fund for Social Development and Renewal. I am happy that five (5) Universities have so far benefited with many more to come.”

The President called on the public servants to make accountability and integrity their watchwords.

“I am equally elated to have some State Governors and my Ministers receive this award. This is to put on record that this award is born out of empirical evidence of performance and not politics. This award is a recognition of the giant strides you all have made towards the transformation of Nigeria and you have consistently put hard work and dedication at the center of your initiatives.

“Let me use this opportunity to say ‘Thank You’ for your contributions to the transformation of our country. This award is a validation of your approach, but much more as a motivation for you and other upcoming leaders to continue doing more towards the attainment of a better Nigeria in all sectors of the economy.”

He thanked the organizers of the event: The Best Strategic Media (TBS), led by Ms. Mariam Mohammed, a Publisher and Public Relations expert, for the continuous support of his administration.

President Buhari acknowledged that the initiative is commendable “for deploying one of the best indices to determine the level of performance of Public Officers.

“I know that Public Officers will be challenged to perform above board now that they know they are being monitored by the people,’’  the President noted.

President Buhari said that he was delighted that the maiden edition of the Nigeria Excellence Awards in Public Service (NEAPS) was a private-sector initiative, organized by The Best Strategic Media in collaboration with the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to recognize excellent service delivery.
