Automotive Development Council Launches 2,322 Gas-Powered Made-In-Nigeria Buses

National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), has launched 2,322 gas-powered Made-in-Nigeria buses. The buses were bought by the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) to be given to the 774 local government areas in the country

The Director-General, Jelani Aliyu, while launching the buses today, June 11, said:”it s very exciting to see that all the vehicles were built in Nigeria by an indigenous company.

”I hereby congratulate the Executive National Chairman of RTEAN, Alhaji Musa Maitakobi, for the commitment to buy the Nigerian built OMAA vehicles.”

Aliyu called on all transport associations in the country to emulate the RTEAN and key into the National Gas Expansion Programme, by patronising Made-in-Nigeria Gas Powered Vehicles.

“What was witnessed was a testimony to the fact that the implementation of the National Automotive Industry Development Plan (NAIDP) by the NADDC is yielding results.

”The CNG powered vehicles produced locally by OMAA Motors, will make transportation cheaper for the commuters and also save lives and protect the environment because it is a cleaner fuel compared to petrol and diesel.

“As one of the 195 signatories to the Paris Accord on the mitigation of greenhouse gases, Nigeria must leverage on the huge reserves of natural gases as a transition fuel.”

APC Primaries: I’m Ashamed Of Ohanaeze, No Longer Believe In It – Ebonyi Gov

Gov. Umahi of Ebonyi state

Governor of Ebonyi State, Engineer David Nweze Umahi, has lamented what he called “high level of betrayal displayed” by delegates from four southeast states of Abia, Anambra, Enugu and Imo, during the just concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary election.
Governor Umahi, who spoke today, June 11at the maiden matriculation ceremony of the David Umahi Federal University of Medical Sciences, Uburu, stressed that it was a very big shame to the Igbos not to make a statement with their delegates.

The Governor, who thanked Ebonyi delegates both in the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) from Ebonyi State, for promoting the interest of Ebonyi people, said that he was disappointed with the attitude of the President-General of Ohanaeze, George Obiozor.

According to him, despite his efforts to make delegates of Igbo extraction to vote for their own during the presidential election, he was still disappointed.

“Let me first deviate a little before I come to what we are doing today. Ebonyi people are wonderful people. It will not be good for me not to take out time to express my gratitude to you after the presidential primary election.
“The presidential election was an eye opener to Ebonyi State. I thank God that through your support we had a victory. We decided to contest so that the Igbo people would not say that we do not have qualified people.

“The Igbo man has five states and we should be asking why. Is there any fairness? Other states have 40 to 50 local government areas. How do you expect an Igbo man to win? But the worst is the attitude of delegates from the southeast. I met with delegates from southeast and begged them to vote for any aspirants from southeast and by doing so we will make a statement.

“Only Ebonyi people in PDP stood for both the PDP and APC. It is a very big shame that our people are crying over marginalisation. I am ashamed of the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo. He can no longer be my president. It is a very big shame every Igbo man should be weeping for himself. And let me warn the youths in Ebonyi State that those leaders selling us out should not be considered our leaders again.

“You talk about marginalisation and Biafra and I continue to say that Ebonyi State cannot be part of Biafra. I weep for our leaders. There is no amount of lobbying that did not come for me, but I continue to say it is an Igbo man.

“Anyone that comes against the Ebonyi people, I will fight in public to protect the integrity of Ebonyi man. We must aspire and the kingdom of darkness cannot hold Ebonyi down. We have a fighting spirit and we have nothing to be afraid of. When honourable people are needed in the southeast, they will look for Ebonyi people.”

So, My Father, Imam Shuaib Agaka, Is No More? By Yushau A. Shuaib

… And the breath stopped suddenly, at 11.33 p.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2022.
It was the moment I lost my beloved motherly father and brotherly friend, my dad, Imam Abdulhameed Shuaib Agaka (PhD).
I had arrived Ilorin on Friday and met him at a private hospital where he had been admitted for the treatment of malaria. I gently collected the prayer rosary from his fingers and held his hand gently, even if a bit tightly… He responded with a very brief smile, without uttering a word.
Inside me, I felt that his prayer over the past two years was about to be answered… But I refused to accept that it could come so soon. I recall that on his 75th birth in February 2020, he told me, as the eldest child and in the midst of my siblings, that we should be strong, as he would soon depart for the world beyond.
That encounter influenced my homage to him during my birthday on October 10, 2020.
While he prayed for his transition to occur, we prayed vehemently against it. We were not unmindful of the fact that he had been having a running battle with diabetes and hypertension. He was even advised to reduce his participation in public engagements, which was quite hectic, including his weekly Islamic radio programmes, sermons, advocacy visitations and other activities outside the house.
From that period in 2020, he had devoted more of his time to Quranic recitations, remembrance of the Almighty, and prayers… and nothing else.
As I held his hands tightly, praying, and with tears rolling down my face, I had a sudden recall of the circumstances of the year 1998, when he finally agreed to accept the title of Imam Agaka, a community with close proximity to the Emir of Ilorin’s palace.
Since he had made up his mind, we couldn’t stop him from leaving Kano, where he was fully established as a respected spiritual leader, Islamic preacher and Arabic scholar, even with a PhD in Arabic Morphology and Quranic Grammar from Bayero University Kano in 1992.

He voluntarily retired from the public service afterward and to start a new life in Ilorin.
His family compound in Agaka hosts one of the oldest Quran as well as Quranic centre in Ilorin, where members of the royal family, including the late mother of the current Emir Sulu-Gambari, learnt basic Islamic teachings.
Apart from his prayer to be buried close to the grave of his parents in Agaka, he had refused all appeals to travel outside the town in the last five years, not even for a visit to Abuja, for the fear that he could die far away from his preferred burial ground close to his parents.

We shared great moments together and he was always glad about his children’s accomplishments.
On May 26, when I told him about my plan to travel to Daar es Salaam in Tanzania for the annual African Public Relations Conference and Awards, he had urged me to return as soon as possible to Ilorin with the award, in order for him to bless it as he had always done on similar occasions in the past.
On my return, I received a message that he had a fever and had been admitted into a private hospital. Earlier on that Friday morning, I had packed the awards that I intended to present to him, as part of my most recent professional acknowledgements, which I was certain would cheer him up, and boarded a 40-minute flight to Ilorin. On arrival, I rushed to the hospital to see him. As mentioned earlier, he noted my presence by opening his eyes, but he could not talk.
As I collected the rosary of prayer beads from his hands, he was still using his fingers consciously in counting the Tasbiu (Muslim prayers). I clapped his hands and he responded with a brief smile.
At that moment, I pleaded with the Almighty Allah to kindly grant my father more time, so that he could counsel and pray for me as he usually did, at least for the last time. I wanted to experience his jokes, smile, prayers and embrace, even if for only one more moment.
I beseeched the Almighty to restrain the Angel of Death for another instant to allow me to present our latest publication and awards to him in a state of full consciousness.
With my eyes raised to the high heavens, I implored: “God, this man has devoted the last few years doing nothing else but just praying and praying and praying. Please spare him some moment so we can talk.”
I was at this and hardly knew when my sister and in-laws took me away for medical attention in a nearby health centre. I was thereafter checked into a hotel close to the hospital, to calm down, while sleeping away the stress and trauma.
I returned to the hospital the following morning to see him. He was sleeping and breathing normally, without being unconscious. By evening, however, the rhythm of his breathing had become a bit faster.
At 11.33 pm on that Saturday, his breathing stopped, and his prayers had been answered.
I momentarily became an adult ‘orphan’ and lapsed into deep grief. My thoughts were suffused with sadness, loneliness and an overwhelming sense of grief. I equally experienced fatigue, confusion and anxiety in heightened measures.
We were consoled by the kind words of many leaders and scholars, and even the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Sulu-Gambari whose exhortation reminded us of how Imam Agaka had positively impacted Arabic scholarship and Islamic teaching in the North.
It has now dawned on me how it really feels to lose a truly loved one.
My sincere apologies to all those whose calls I have been unable to pick or whose messages I am yet to respond to in the last week of a final caregiving leave in the honour of my late father. May we all find the fortitude to bear the deep losses that come with life when these come our ways, while still retaining the presence of mind to keep giving thanks to God despite everything.

Power Shift: We Were Terrified To See Unserious Northern Govs, Others Vying – El-Rufai

The Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has said that moves by those he described as unserious governors and Senate President terrified Northern governors who subsequently made a timely pronouncement that President of the country should be made to come from South in 2023.

Governor el-Rufai, who spoke today, June 10 in a Channels Television programme, Politics Today, said his colleagues took the decision based on principle that power should return to the South after President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

“It was based on principle and after eight years of President Muhammadu Buhari. It is only fair for the APC to zone it to the South. There is no written agreement but there was an understanding during the formation of the APC. Some of us were therefore terrified when some unserious contenders wanted to contest.”

He confirmed moves by some Northern stakeholders to retain power in the region following the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate.

“When we saw moves by some governors and the Senate President, we got worried because we had a principle based on the party’s motto of fairness. As a region, we must adhere to our words and we had to come out unanimously which the President supported.

“Right from the outset, Yahaya Bello made it clear he wanted to run but we didn’t take it seriously but when some governors like myself, Zulum, and Badaru bought form on the assumption that if the PDP zones to North, there is a need for the APC to reconsider. We got worried because what the PDP does should not be what APC does.

“The fact that the PDP picked a Northerner should not change our stance on fairness. I was told to pick the form but declined in the spirit of fairness; how I wished the PDP zoned to the South also.

“We had to meet the President after reports about Lawan’s candidacy emanated. We told President Buhari that we will support anyone insofar they are from the South which he considered regarding a five-name list. He checked the names and he ratified them ahead of the primaries.”

2023 Presidency: Muslim-Muslim, Christian-Christian Ticket, Disastrous For Nigeria – CAN

CAN President, Dr. Samson Supo-Ayokunle

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has warned against the danger inherent in political parties fielding candidates and running mates from the same religion for the 2023 presidential election.

National Secretary of CAN, Joseph Bade Daramola, who spoke in Abuja today, June 10, insisted that a Muslim-Muslim or Christian-Christian ticket will threaten the country’s unity.

“CAN urges that a balance of both religious practitioners be considered in the choice of running mates of the presidential candidates. We do not subscribe to Christian-Christian ticket or Muslim-Muslim ticket.

“Politicians can talk politics but we have stated our view long before now. Any party that tries same religion ticket will fail. This is not 1993. Even when we have joint Muslim-Christian ticket, the church still goes through hell.

“Imagine how bad it will be if we have two Muslims in power? The extant Nigerian Constitution promotes religious balance. So, if any political party wants to try Muslim-Muslim ticket, it is at its own peril. CAN is only forewarning, but will make a categorical statement in the event our warning is not heeded.”

He congratulated the presidential candidates of the ruling APC, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party (LP), and those of other parties that will be participating in the 2023 polls, and stressed the need to embrace Muslim-Christian joint ticket in all the parties.

Loosers At APC Presidential Primaries Rush Home To Pick Senatorial Tickets

Godswill Akpabio

No fewer than two Presidential aspirants who lost to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential primaries held during a special national convention of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on June 8 in Abuja, have made returned to their States to pick senatorial tickets.

They are the governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi and former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio.

While Umahi was said to have taken the ticket from his brother who had earlier clinched the victory, Akpabio was said to have emerged the APC candidate for Ikot Ekpene senatorial district (Akwa Ibom North-West) in Akwa Ibom State.

He won the senatorial ticket at a re-run senatorial primary election held in Ikot Ekpene local government area of the State, where he polled 478 votes to defeat a  former Deputy Inspector General  (DIG) of Police, Udom Ekpo Udom, and  Engineer Joseph Akpan, who polled three and one votes respectively.

The state chairman of the party, Obong Stephen Ntukekpo, explained to party delegates that the fresh election became necessary following an order by the APC National Working Committee (NWC) to cancel the earlier exercise of May 28, 2022, due to security infractions.

“The re-run of the Akwa Ibom North-West senatorial primary of our dear party was ordered by the NWC of the party as a result of the cancellation of the last primary, which took place on the 28th May, 2022, due to security infractions by some hoodlums.

“Four aspirants were billed to take part in the rescheduled election, namely; former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio; former member House of Representatives, Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo; former DIG, Udom Ekpo Udom and Engineer Joseph Akpan,” Ntukekpo explained.

Before the commencement of voting, former member House of Representatives, Obongemem Ekperikpe Ekpo, announced his voluntary withdrawal from the race and urged all his delegates to cast their votes for Senator Akpabio, whom he described as “my leader and mentor”.

Addressing the delegates, Senator Akpabio thanked the delegates for trooping out in their hundreds to cast their votes for him, assuring them that “my return to the Senate in 2023 will bring in more infrastructural  development, human capital development, youths and women empowerment.”

Announcing the results of the exercise, which was witnessed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Police and other relevant agencies, the Returning Officer, Mrs Bunmi Imolehin, declared that “total registered delegates were 540 but only 512 delegates were accredited, while 11 votes were void votes.”

Meanwhile, Ekpo Udom has described the exercise as “totally shambolic and against the provisions of the Electoral Act” and urged the national chairman of APC, Abdullahi Adamu, to sanctiion Akpabio and ignore the results, alleging that Akpabio only bought the presidential form and not the Senate

We May Shut Down Substandard Universities, Other Tertiary Institutions – Minister

Education Minister, Mallam Adamu Adamu

Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu has threatened to withdraw licences of Universities, Colleges of Education, Polytechnics and other tertiary institutions operating below prescribed standards by law.

This came as the Senior Staff Union in Colleges of Education, Nigeria (SSUCOEN), has called on the Federal Government to ensure the immediate release of the N15 billion revitalization fund approved for Colleges arising from the NEED Assessment exercise.

The minister, who met with a delegation from SSUCOEN over lingering and “disturbing” issues affecting members of the Colleges of Education sector, talked about the poor state of some state-owned Colleges of Education across the country, saying that if it is not for Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) intervention, most of the Colleges would have been moribund.

He said that many of the tertiary institutions have deviated from the mandates for which licences were issued to them, adding: “I want to tell you that I have already discussed this with the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission and I know that this would have gone to National Board for Technical Education and National Commission for Colleges of Education. I want to make sure that before I leave this place, licences of some of these institutions are withdrawn.”

The Minister promised that necessary steps would be taken to ensure the release of the N15 billion revitalization fund to Colleges, just as he disagreed with the SSUCOEN President that Colleagues of Education were being segregated.

On the banning of Staff Demonstration Schools, Malam Adamu said that government would look into it, based on the explanation that the Colleges of Education Staff Demonstration Schools are a requirement for graduating students.

He also pledged that all the issues raised would be given due consideration and expeditious response.

The SSUCOEN President had earlier called on the Federal Government to ensure the immediate release of the N15 billion revitalization fund approved for Colleges arising from the NEED Assessment exercise.

He also demanded the resumption of the stalled renegotiation of the 2010 FGN/SSUCOEN Agreement. He accused the Federal Government of segregating against Colleges of Education, while noting that the Government had commenced renegotiation of agreements reached with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), leaving out Colleges of Education.

Msheliza, however, commended the Federal Government for payment of arrears of Minimum wages for Colleges of Education Staff, affirming all members of the Union have received their payment.

He called on the Minister of Education to intervene in ensuring the restoration and mainstreaming of the staff of Demonstration Schools in Colleges of Education, saying the Federal Government had erroneously stopped funding the schools because they were referred to as private schools.

Msheliza argued that the Colleges of Education Staff Demonstration Schools are a requirement for graduating students of primary Education studies (PES) and Early Childhood care education (ECCE).

He also called for the reconstitution of the Governing Councils of Colleges of Education as well as pushed for quick passage of the Colleges of Education Amendment Act, said to have passed through 3rd reading in the National Assembly.

Pastor Of Christ Embassy, His Wife, Wanted By EFCC For Alleged N2 Billion Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared a couple, Onyinmiebi (Miebi Baraza) and Beatrice Bribena, wanted. Bribena, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain in Bayelsa State, is pastor at Christ Embassy Church.

An alert by the anti-graft agency called on those with information about them to contact any of its offices across Nigeria. The agency is searching for the duo over alleged fraud to the tune N2 billion.

The Bribenas are the promoters of Baraza Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited.

He is accused of scamming thousands of billions of naira after promising a 25 percent Return on Investment (ROI) monthly, with catch words, such as: “We are dedicated to improving members’ lives via financial empowerment, business financing, thrift & credit, housing, scholarship, etc.”

Meanwhile EFCC has sealed the company’s building, with branches in Port-Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, and some other parts of the country.

Baraza had informed investors that it was trading with their money on forex platforms but stopped after it could no longer pay returns.

Why I Will Stand By, Vote For Tinubu– Asari Dokubo

Former Niger Delta militant leader, Alhaji Asari Dokubo has made it clear that he will continue to stand by and vote for the Presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu because he was good to him.

Dokubo, in a video clip today, June 10, said that Tinubu was paying the school fees of his children when he (Dokubo) was in prison.

“When I was in prison, Tinubu was so kind to me; he paid my children’s school fees. He gave me a house at VGC. He gave my wife a house at Ogba.

“When Tinubu was taken to the Code of conduct for trial, I trekked miles and when I entered the court, he came to embrace me after the court session.”

Dokubo said that Nigerians will miss a lot if they fail to vote Tinubu, adding that he (Tinubu) has many qualities that would lift Nigeria beyond imagination.
