Kaduna Govt Dismisses 2,356 Teachers, NUT President

The Kaduna State Universal Basic Education (UBE) Board has announced the dismissal of 2,357 teachers, including the National President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Audu Amba. While other teachers were dismissed as result of failing the recently-conducted competency test, the NUT president got his dismissal for failing to attend the test.

In a statement in Kaduna today, June 19, the Board’s spokesperson, Hauwa Mohammed, said that the board conducted a competency test for over 30,000 teachers in December 2021, saying that 165 of the 27,662 teachers that sat for the competency test were also sacked for poor performances.

“Following the state government’s resolution for continued assessment of teachers to ensure better delivery of learning outcomes for pupils, KADSUBEB conducted another competency test for the teachers in December 2021.

“The services of teachers who scored below 40 per cent are no longer required and their appointments have been terminated from the Public Service for their poor performances.

“Teachers who scored 75 per cent and above were recognized, as it also applied to those who passed the test and qualified for attending courses in leadership and school management.”

NCC Partners Its Consultant, 3R, To Strengthen Integrity Of Revenue Generation Process

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has finally signed a Public Private Partnership (PPP) agreement with its consultant, 3R Company Nigeria Limited, for the execution of the Revenue Assurance Solutions (RAS) to strengthen and manage the integrity of revenue generation process in the Nigerian telecommunications industry.

The agreement-signing ceremony, which took place at the Commission’s Head Office, Abuja on June 17, was witnessed by representatives of the Infrastructure Concession and Regulatory Commission (ICRC). The ICRC has been guiding the partnership implementation process to give expression to the decision to procure the Solution within a PPP framework due to the scope of the project.

A statement today, June 18, by the NCC spokesman, Okechukwu Adeinde said that while the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NCC, Professor Umar Garba Danbatta, signed the agreement on behalf of the Commission, the Chief Executive Officer, 3R Nigeria Limited, Mr. Raymond Wodi, signed on behalf of his company.

Speaking at the event, Danbatta said that the decision of the NCC to opt for RAS was to bolster the efforts of the Federal Government in increasing revenue generation, especially at a time when the resources at the disposal of the government are dwindling by the day.

The Executive Vice Chairman said that the deployment of RAS would enhance monitoring and regulatory activities concerning Annual Operating Levy (AOL) administration in the telecommunications industry and confer higher levels of integrity and fidelity on the AOL figures obtainable in the industry.

“It is our belief that if we can be able to deploy RAS and ensure we get the true picture of what the Mobile Networks Operators (MNOs) are supposed to be paying by way of AOL, we would have accomplished an important milestone in the area of revenue generation for the Commission as well as for the government.”

Danbatta commended the ICRC for the guidance provided in the process of consummating the partnership.

He also praised the Project Delivery Team (PDT), comprising staff of the Commission, who worked tirelessly in ensuring that the project was brought to fruition and for all their efforts.

He urged the 3R Company Nigeria Limited to ensure effective deployment and implementation of the project within its scope, objective and government’s expectations.

Responding, Raymond Wodi of 3R Company Nigeria Limited, thanked the Commission for the opportunity given to the company to serve the industry and the government through deployment of 3R’s technology solution to ensure a more effective revenue generation from telecom licensees.

Wodi assured the stakeholders that 3R is ready to meet and exceed expectation on the assignment. Director, Internal Audit, ICRC, Mr. Togunde Dada-Hammed, who represented the Director-General of ICRC, Mr. Michael Ohiani, commended the NCC for the bold decision to deploy RAS.

He said that with ICRC in the picture, it would offer required support for the process in order to ensure that the project’s objectives are realised for the betterment of all the parties involved.

“Anybody that is familiar with the trends around the world, especially in Nigeria with respect to revenue challenge that the country is facing, will know that the deployment of RAS solution is the right way to go, as demonstrated by the NCC.”

Primary: How Buhari Ignored APC Leaders Over Choosing Preferred Candidate – Tinubu

The Presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has painted a picture of how President Muhammadu Buhari refused to be lured into choosing a preferred candidate for the party at the just concluded presidential primary, ahead of the 2023 election in Nigeria.

In a special letter of appreciation he personally signed and delivered to President Buhari today, June 18, Asiwaju Tinubu said: “as aspirants and party leaders, we all pleaded with you to choose your successor.

“Naturally, this is expected, especially in African democracy. Up until the 6th of June, 2022, the day of the APC Presidential primaries, the whole of Nigeria, including myself, was waiting for you to announce your preferred candidate. All of us thought and believed this was a very simple matter.

“However, it was only as the primary went into the night and as the candidates walked up to the podium and spoke that I fully and truly appreciated your position and stance to be neutral and non-aligned to any of us. As the first person to speak, I also had the special vantage point to carefully hear, without any distraction, what the other candidates had to say.

“As the hours rolled by that evening, it became clear to me that all of us were your preferred candidates. As you captured it aptly in your letter to me, the “spirit” of 2013 and 2014 when we created and built APC was there for all to see.”

The Presidential flag bearer said that one must admire the sense of purpose, composure, and maturity which President Buhari demonstrated in the weeks and months preceding the primary elections of our great party

He described President Buhari as a true leader, brother and friend,  who demonstrated a sense of purpose, composure, and maturity  in the weeks leading to the Special Convention of the Party.

Tinubu expressed gratitude for the President’s congratulatory letter to him, adding that while all the contestants expected President Buhari to choose his successor, he simply allowed a level playing field.

According to him: “You belonged to everybody in the party and you belonged to none of the individual candidates of the party.”

He congratulated the President for the successful conclusion of the Convention and assured him of an issue focused campaign leading to the 2023 general elections.

The full text of the letter is reproduced below:

Dear Mr President,

DEEP APPRECIATION

I bring you sincere fraternal greetings and congratulations on the successful conclusion of the special Presidential Convention of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

On behalf of my wife, Oluremi, and my entire family, I want to express my sincere gratitude for the very special and personal congratulatory letter you sent to me. I am deeply honored. Your words in that letter were reassuring, reenergizing, and reinvigorating.

Your Excellency, one must admire the sense of purpose, composure, and maturity you demonstrated in the weeks and months preceding the primary elections of our great party. As aspirants and party leaders, we all pleaded with you to “choose” your successor.

Naturally, this is expected especially in African democracy. Up until the 6th of June, 2022, the day of the APC Presidential primaries, the whole of Nigeria, including myself, was waiting for you to announce your preferred candidate. All of us thought and believed this was a very simple matter.

However, it was only as the primary went into the night and as the candidates walked up to the podium and spoke that I fully and truly appreciated your position and stance to be neutral and non-aligned to any of us. As the first person to speak, I also had the special vantage point to carefully hear, without any distraction, what the other candidates had to say.

As the hours rolled by that evening, it became clear to me that all of us were your preferred candidates. As you captured it aptly in your letter to me, the “spirit” of 2013 and 2014 when we created and built APC was there for all to see.

In your letter and in our many meetings over the years, you fondly reminisced on fraternal attitude in the days and months before and after formation of the APC, when we all worked day and night to create, sustain and nurture our nascent movements into a credible opposition party and ultimately, become the ruling party. That time, no one spoke about tribe; no one spoke about religion. That was not what drove us. We were driven by a common desire to save and transform Nigeria.

One by one, I saw my colleagues and partners stand on the podium, full of the same passion and patriotic zeal they had in 2013/2014, presenting their ideas on how to build on your successful legacy. Back then, as it is now, we were from all parts of the country, all tribes, and all religions. We all had deep personal and strong bonds with you. We were together back then and our bonds remained strong up till now.

Mr. President, as the night of 6 June turned to morning of 7 June, I fully understood and appreciated your stance. “You belonged to everybody in the party and you belonged to none of the individual candidates of the party.” A true leader, brother and friend.

Mr. President, the delegates from all over the country nominated my humble self to be their candidate. I must acknowledge that my nomination would not have become a reality without your support and that of the party leaders across the country. Indeed, as I reflect on my political journey, most of the 2022 APC presidential aspirants, members of the Progressive Governors Forum and National Assembly leaders and members all had a role to play in my successes and achievements thus far.

I will forever be grateful to them for shaping my political journey over the decades. I want to assure you that I will continue to work with them going forward. My emergence as a candidate is also a victory for them.

I have met most of them in the past few days and will continue these engagements as we plan for the general elections. Mr. President, APC is united and will remain united as we move towards the general elections.

I have taken note of the message you sent to all Presidential Candidates in your Democracy Day speech to the nation on the 12th June, 2022. Our country is going through a very sensitive period and no one should put their personal desires above and beyond the nation’s peace and prosperity. As you said, the “message we set at the top will be replicated in our followers.” At this point, I will take this opportunity to assure Your Excellency of my commitment to running an issue focused campaign as we move into the general elections. I will personally engage the candidates from other political parties to urge them to do same. Voters should elect us based on our policies, programmes,  and projects. By the grace of God, we as candidates will avoid having divisive, destructive and disruptive campaigns.

I will conclude by once again thanking you for being there for all of us. By the grace of God and with your leadership, guidance and support, I am confident that we will lead our great party, the APC, to victory in the February 2023 general elections. We will ride on the back of your successes. We will build on the foundations of transparency and integrity which you have laid.

Mr President, together, side by side, in the spirit of 2014, we will win and Nigeria will move forward to a progressive, peaceful and prosperous future.

Olubadan also conferred on Ganduje”s wife, Professor Hafsat Ganduje the title of Yeye Aare Fiwajore of Ibadan Land even as the Chief Imam of Ibadan Land, Sheikh AndulGaniyu Abubakar (Agbolomokekere), conferred another title of Alaudeen of Yorubawa (Aladdin of Yoruba) on Governor Ganduje.

The occasion took place today, June 18, in Mapo historical Hall, Ibadan, with the Presidential flag bearer of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in attendance.

The Olubadan praised Governor Ganduje for being a detribalised Nigerian, who he said, believes in national integration and harmonious relationship among all tribes of Nigeria.”

“Let me sum up it up with two paragraphs from the letter of recommendation by Oba Yoruba Kano thus: Bestowing a befitting Chieftaincy title on the hardworking and amiable governor with his wife will be a reward for a man who has been compassionate to us as a people and who believes that any Nigerian can stay and work in any part of the country without molestation or denial of basic things of life.”

He further appreciated the people-oriented posture of Kano state government, adding that, “Your Excellency all these Chieftaincy titles are well deserving. We are awarding these titles to the right people.”

“You can also remember that just in the last few years, I gave the hands of my daughter in marriage to the family of the late governor of Oyo state, Isiaka Abiola Adeyemi Ajimobi.”

According to him, such development would promote cordial relationship between Hausa/Fulani and Yoruba race, extending to all parts of the country.

“This cross-cultural event, especially this Chieftaincy conferment will definitely encourage us all in putting our effort for national unity and cohesion. It will definitely encourage more integration between Hausa/Fulani and Yoruba people.”

Tinubu Will Come Up With Substantive Running Mate By August – Campaign Spokesman

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu

Director of Media, Tinubu Campaign Organization, Bayo Onanuga, has confirmed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has chosen Ibrahim Masari as substitute running mate to the presidential flagbearer, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a statement today, June 18, Onanuga said that Ibrahim Masari’s name was submitted along with that of Tinubu in fulfillment of the regulation of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC)., saying that while he (Ibrahim) is not regarded as surrogate, “he is just holding forth.

“The electoral act stipulates that candidates have the window period to substitute up till sometime in August. Asiwaju will use that time to continue consulting with the party, governors and the president. He is taking his time and doesn’t want to rush it.

“Asiwaju Tinubu just wants to carry everybody along. Even the elections will take place in 2023 and the campaign wouldn’t start until September. The window period is still long. There is no need to rush anything about it.

“I think we have fulfilled our own part by submitting the name as required before the window of INEC deadline closes.”

The spokesman said that Ibrahim Masari once worked as a member of the National Working Committee when Adams Oshimhole was in charge of the APC executive.

Southern, Middle Belt Leaders’ Forum Reject Gov Okowa As Atiku’s Running Mate

Leadership of the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders’ Forum (SMBLF), Afenifere, and Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, have rejected Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as running mate to the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

This was contained in a statement signed by Chief (Dr.) Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, Leader of the SMBLF/PANDEF; Chief Ayo Adebanjo, Leader of Afenifere; Dr. Dru Bitrus,
President-General of the Middle Belt Forum as well as Ambassador (Prof.) George Obiozor, President-General of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide.

The statement reads: “It bears recalling that the 17 Governors of the Southern States of Nigeria, both of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), under the Chairmanship of the Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, met in Asaba, the capital of Delta State on May 11, 2021, and took far-reaching decisions, including that, based on the principles of fairness, equity and justice, the presidency should rotate to the south, at the end of the statutory eight years of President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure.

“And this very Governor Okowa was the host of that historic meeting. The Southern Governors later met again in Lagos, on July 5, where they reaffirmed their decision, and again in Enugu, on September 16, to restate the call that the presidency should rotate to the south in 2023.

“It is, therefore, most unfortunate that the Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa who should know better, accepted his appointment as running mate to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. We do not have anything personal against Ifeanyi Okowo but his action is treacherous and tantamount to a despicable pawning of the political future of the people of Southern Nigeria.

“It is unspeakable and quite disappointing that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, who is currently Chairman of the South-South Governors’ Forum, and a native of Owa-Alero in Ika North-East Local Government Area (one of the Igbo-speaking areas) of Delta State, would exhibit such barefaced unreliability.

“It is difficult to fathom how a political party can claim to be on a supposed “rescue mission” with such false footings of unfairness, injustice, duplicity and gross insensitivity to national outlook.

“Governor Okowa has, by his action, betrayed the trust reposed on him by his colleagues; the southern governors, the entire good people of southern Nigeria and all well-meaning Nigerians. He has made himself persona non grata, not only, with SMBLF but all citizens who treasure our oneness and yearn for a more united and peaceful Nigeria.

“We, therefore, reject Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and his Vice Presidency, and leave him to his lot, but let the world know that this is a betrayal of the highest order.

“And that this is not a matter of loyalty to one’s political party, but rather a greedy, parochial and unpatriotic action, committed against the general interest of his State, Delta state, the Niger Delta region, and Southern Nigeria. It is, certainly, also not in the interest of the nation at large.”

Kabiru Masari

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has submitted the name of Ibrahim Kabiru Masari to the Independent National Electoral Comission (INEC) as placeholder running mate to the Presidential candidate of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for the 2023 elections.

According to him, Kabiru Masari is a well-known politician in Kaduna State, saying that Kabiru hails from Katsina State.

He said that Kabiru is experienced and has been close to Tinubu, adding that he will not have problem working with the former Lagos State governor.

“I think what it is, is that it was the decision of the presidential candidate after due diligence.”
