Former Chief Imam of the National Assembly Legislative Quarters Mosque, Sheikh Muhammad Nuru Khalid, has said that he stand with the poor masses of Nigeria and also is voice of the voiceless in Nigeria.
“My sack is a reflection of how Nigeria is today. Many people are hiding under the cover of religion to perpetrate all manner of unwholesome acts. Such people would stop at nothing to take away people like me.
“This is the price we pay for aligning with the people and identifying with their sufferings.”
Imam Khalid said the decision of the mosque’s committee to sack him was a necessary price he had to pay for identifying with the suffering masses and speaking truth to power.
Imam Khalid was suspended immediately after the Jum’at sermon on Friday, criticizing the current government over inability to tackle the security situation, and was finally sacked by the Mosque committee today, April 4.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Khalid has said that he has been given a fresh appointment by the Management Committee of a new Jum’at Mosque behind the Central Bank Nigeria, CBN Quarters, Abuja.
“By the Grace of Almighty Allah, I will be leading my new congregation this Friday, because as clerics we need a platform to operate.
“There’s a Jum’mat mosque we built behind the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN Quarters, in Abuja; I will now be leading the congregation there.”
Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has responded to a statement credited to the former President, Olusegun Obasanjo to the effect that Muhammadu Buhari’s government is overwhelmed by the security challenges in the country.
According to Lai Mohammed, the government is not overwhelmed because the security challenge facing the country is not a conventional war for which solders are trained.
Answering questions today, April 4, on a TVC programme: “This Morning,” the minister said: “we must give kudos to our military. You know that we are not fighting a conventional war but terrorism, hence the need for everyone to support the security agencies so as to win over the menace.
He said that the government is fast-tracking the installation of some security gadgets on railway tracks to ensure adequate surveillance.
“The Federal Government is working toward ensuring that such incident does not reoccur.
“One of the things that the government wants to do is to fast-track the installation of surveillance and monitoring system, not just on the Abuja-Kaduna rail track. But also on the Lagos-Ibadan and Warri-Itakpe rail tracks to ensure that at any given time we will be able to monitor from the control room.”
Lai Mohammed said that in spite of the security challenges, the military and other security personnel are doing their best and have recorded successes in their fight against terrorism.
“The Federal Government has also given the military the enabling environment to continue in the fight against terrorism and banditry,’’ he said.
The minister assured Nigerians of the Federal Government’s commitment to ensure that every state is secured.
Chairman of the National Assembly Mosque Zone E, Apo Legislators’ Quarters, Gudu District Abuja, Saidu Muhammed Dansadau, has given reasons why the Mosqu’s chief Imam, Sheikh Nuru Khalid was sacked, saying that his teachings of political apathy are un-Islamic.
The Islamic cleric was initially suspended for his anti-government sermon during the Jum’at service on Friday, criticizing the government for its inadequacy in dealing with rising insecurity in the country. The committee chairman said that the Chief Imam did not show “remorse” after he was suspended immediately after the Jum’at prayer, stressing that his reaction did not show any form of regret following his sermon. The content of the letter suspending Sheik Khalid reads: “We regret to inform you that from today the 4th day of April 2023 you have been disengaged from the services of the above-mentioned mosque. “This action is occasioned by the non-remorseful attitude you exhibited following your suspension on 2nd April this year. “Akamakallah, you know better than me by the teaching of Islam, the essence of administering punishment is to correct behaviour. Unfortunately, your media reaction to the suspension creates the impression that you are not remorseful, NOT to talk of humbly reflecting on the consequences of your utterances. “Leadership demands a great sense of responsibility. If our words do more harm than good to larger interest of the country or the public. We have a responsibility to maximum restraint for the good of public. It is obvious however, that you don’t seem keen to modify your Friday sermon to be reflective of the volatility of security situation in the country. “You are an influencer; your words carry a lot of weights, you words can make or mar our situation. Your words can be taken advantage of by mischief makers, those responsible for these security challenges or enemies of the country for their devilish agendas. “As leaders of the mosque we have a sacred responsibility to avoid utterances that are capable of making a bad situation worse. This is our fear and concern.”
Reacting to his suspension, Khalid said that only God could give or take power from anyone.
Police and soldiers swung into action to save Chibiri community in Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) from sliding into bloody clash today, April 4. Information reaching us at Greenbarge Reporters online newspaper, showed that the herdsmen, who live in an empty space in the neighborhood, invaded Chibiri village, inflicting injuries on Gwari people, including their traditional head. Sources said that it all started when a Gwari who was returning from his farm, along with his son met a motorcycle crossing his path. It was said that when the Gwari man attempt at removing the motorcycle from the path, a young Fulani emerged from no where to challenge him. It was gathered that in the process the two sides began to insult each other and after, departed to their houses. It was gathered that hours later, a group of herdsmen, who might have been mobilized to attack the villagers, based on the information the Fulani man fed them with, invaded the village, wielding some weapons. It was learnt that before they could do damage that might result into bloodbath, both the police and soldiers have arrived to take control of the situation. Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi has challenged workers who are claiming that they have not been paid their salaries up-to-date to come out openly with a proof, insisting that as at today, no government worker is being owed salary.
Governor Yahaya Bello, who spoke to newsmen in Abuja, said that workers welfare remained a priority to him, calling on Nigerians to judge him by his numerous developmental projects and performance in the state and not on lies being peddled by some individuals.
The governor said that if the allegations were true, the state government workers and unions which they belong to would have long protested.
He challenged media people to take it as an assignment to verify the issue around the cry by some people that are not even resident in the State about payment ofsalaries.
He also called on Nigerians to visit the state government’s websites;www.kogipedia.netandwww.kogistate.gov.ngto see some of the projects undertaken by his administration and clarity on workers’ salaries.
“First, let me implore the media to please come up with one state civil servant who would come on air and present his pay slip and bank statement and claim that Kogi State is owing him.
“Number two, these various workers have their unions and organisations. The Union leaderships and not making noise, who are those that are complaining.
“When you continue to mention this issue of salary, I want you to take statistics, empirical facts of various states up till date, how many states have performed above Kogi State in terms of salary payment.”
“And, I want to assure you that if we are not paying salaries, workers themselves, their unions, would have cried out. There are so many lies they are banding out there that you do not know how they emanate.
“Let me tell you, I am not a governor for salary, any other person can pay salaries, just like the clerical workers and all of my officials are paying.
“I am here to manage the resources, both human and otherwise for the benefit of all the citizens of Kogi and the country. And, that is what we are doing, ranging from security, integration, and cooperation amongst our people,” Bello said.
On creating 20 million millionaires by 2030, Governor Yahaya Bello insisted that it is possible, explaining that his administration when he becomes President, will adopt the South-Eastern Apprenticeship model which has successfully created several millionaires.
He said that the South-Eastern Apprenticeship module is a homegrown model which is being studied in Harvard when applied across all sectors will achieve the goal.
“When you talk of issues of empowering 20 million Nigerians by the year 2030, I mean every bit of it.
“Mr President is trying to pull out 100 million Nigerians out of poverty and I did make reference to a principle where our South-Eastern brothers’ apprenticeship.
“Whereby either any child from indigent or affluence persons learn how to trade under their Masters maximum within five years,” he said.
According to him, they would go and secure their freedom are settled with either N500,000 or N1,000,000. Give that particular apprentice that just graduated another two years maximum, that person is swimming in millions.
“This is a model that is being studied by Harvard, why can’t we in this country develop this our homegrown solutions to our problems.
“We can do that in that aspect, we can do it in agriculture. Mr President has released a lot of funds into agriculture.
“Whereby we should be able to take our teeming population, youths and women off to learn certain aspects of agriculture or training, and, when they come on board, they will be able to empower at least five more. 20 million of them multiply by five each will surely pull out 100 million Nigerians out of poverty.
“I can assure you that in Kogi State today, we are having peace and security, and togetherness because we have demonstrated and empowered our youths beyond your imagination.
“I am referring Nigerians to please visit our website. If you cannot visit our website and all you do is to sit down and criticise then we are not ready to move the country forward,” Bello said.
Yesterday, April 2, Yahaya Bello officially declared to run for Presidency under the All Progressives Congress (APC) with a pledge to restore hope to Nigerians and bridge the gap. Source: NAN.
After many extensions, the Federal Government has finally begins the implementation of mobile phone linkage, (Subscriber Identification Module (SIM)
to the National Identification Number (NIN).
A statement by the Director of Public Affairs in the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC), Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde said that with the directive of the Federal Government, “outgoing calls will subsequently be barred for telephone lines that have not complied with the NIN-SIM linkage Policy from the 4th of April, 2022.”
The statement said however, that subscribers of such lines should link their SIMs to their NINs before the Telcos can lift the restriction on their lines.
“Affected individuals are hereby advised to register for their NINs at designated centers and thereafter link the NINs to their SIMs through the channels provided by NIMC and the Telcos, including the NIMC mobile App.”
It said that as at today, over 125 Million SIMs have had their NINs submitted for immediate linkage, verification and authentication.
“Similarly, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has issued over 78 Million unique NINs till date.
“It would be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, gave the directive for the implementation and commencement of the exercise in December 2020, as part of the administration’s security and social policies. The deadlines for the NIN-SIM linkage has been extended on multiple occasions to allow Nigerians to freely comply with the Policy.
“The FG also took into consideration the passionate appeals by several bodies – Association of Licensed Telecoms Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), Civil Societies, Professional Bodies and a host of others – for the extension of the deadlines in the past.
“Accordingly, Mr. President graciously approved the many requests to extend deadlines for the NIN-SIM linkage.
“At this point however, Government has determined that the NIN-SIM Policy implementation can proceed, as machinery has already been put in place to ensure compliance by citizens and legal residents. The implementation impacts on Government’s strategic planning, particularly in the areas of security and socio-economic projections.
“President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the implementation of the Policy with effect from the 4th of April, 2022.
“The Federal Government has directed all Telcos to strictly enforce the Policy on all SIMs issued (existing and new) in Nigeria.”
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Muhammad Musa Bello has cautioned public office holders in the FCT Administration to learn to resist pressures from their relations and associates to steal public funds for their private use.
According to him, this is the way they can maintain their integrity, even as he advocated discipline as another panacea to maintain trust while discharging the responsibilities of their offices.
Speaking today, April 3, at the closing ceremony of the three day retreat for political appointees of the FCTA, in Abuja, Muhammad Musa Bello emphasized the need for public servants, to imbibe the ability to resist the pressures from relations and associates to compromise their integrity and flaunt public service rules especially, procurement processes and the acceptance of gifts.
“Public office, requires tremendous amount of discipline and as political office holders, you will find that most of that discipline has to come from your inner self.”
He called on them to open gift registers to document all gifts offered, received and by whom in full compliance with the extant rules and regulations.
He reminded them that they were liable in the eyes of the law for all their actions while in public office, even as he commended the Permanent Secretary and other senior officials for the retreat which was attended by high profile resource persons.
This was even as the Chief of Staff to the Minister, Malam Bashir Mai Bornu encouraged the political appointees to re –affirm their commitment to the FCT Administration and support the FCT Minister in the discharge of their responsibilities.
The FCTA Permanent Secretary, Olusade Adesola said also that in the course of the retreat, participants considered various aspects of the FCTA, including government rules and regulations and also looked at the 13 goal mandate as handed down to the FCTA by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Inner Wheel Nigeria, Gbagada-Ifako, District 911 has donated an infant incubator and diapers to the Paediatric Ward of the General Hospital, Ifako Ijaiye, Lagos State. The Charter President, Omolara Adedugbe, said that the donation was in commemoration of the International Inner Wheel Day, which is observed worldwide on January 10, and the accreditation of the club. Adedugbe said: “Today’s donation is a star project for our club. Our club just got chartered. “We got recognized by the international body in February and we felt we have to do a project to mark the official recognition of the club. But prior to that on the 10th of January, which is the International Inner Wheel Day worldwide, we donated consumables worth about N300,000 to the hospital and we promised to give them a baby incubator. That is why we are here.” The past Board Director, Doyin Abiodun-Oredein, said also that the club touches lives through the little that it can do, saying: “Our objective is to promote true friendship to encourage service and to foster national understanding. “Through the little we can do, we put smiles on people’s faces. We don’t get funds from anybody. We raise our funds ourselves. We try to touch as many lives as possible. No counting the cost.” Inner Wheel is an international organisation for women that encourage the ideals of personal services through services to humanity. It has presence in about 104 countries with approximately 108,000 members in about 4000 clubs.nInner Wheel Nigeria has six Districts. They are Districts 911 (247 members with 18 clubs), 913 (211 members with 17 clubs), 914 (168 members with 14 clubs), 912 (317 members with 22 clubs), 910 (137 members with 7 clubs), and 916 (94 members with seven clubs). Total membership is 1,174 in the 85 clubs.
The Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on media and publicity, Malam Garba Shehu has listed the ills of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which it was identified with in the past and the present.
Reacting to what he called “fantasy communiqué” the PDP issued in Enugu today, April 3, in the statement, Garba Shehu said the communiqué “is a work of fiction by those who truly believe black is white and one plus one equals three.
He said that the content of the communiqué sought to cover up the serial and criminal failures of the PDP’s long and damaging period in office, which the Muhammadu Buhari administration and All Progressives Congress (APC) have strived these past seven years to repair.
“We cannot forget under PDP, the nation had an army full of phantom soldiers whose pay went to PDP politicians’ pockets while our under-resourced real soldiers died in the fight against terrorist insurgents and our international allies refused to supply Nigeria kit and military aid.
“Today with the APC, the army is resourced, we have fighter jets from our partners, Boko Haram is being driven from every inch of Nigerian territory, and ISWA’s leader eliminated in a Nigerian airstrike.
“We cannot ignore how PDP politicians sought – and continue to seek – to inflame ethnic and religious tensions by refusing to even proffer a solution to the herder-farmer clashes which became most prevalent under their misrule.
“Today with APC in government, there are ranches on Federal land and in state land where there is the willingness to establish them. Clashes are reduced. Lives are saved, and livelihoods are enriched.
“We will always remember how PDP politicians intentionally encouraged and exploited the black market in currency exchange to convert ill-gotten gains to foreign currency and undermine our national currency, then spirited their funds abroad in their billions and into foreign bank accounts.
“Today with APC we support our national currency; we have achieved self-sufficiency in rice and fertilizer production; we refuse to allow greedy politicians and businessmen to hide their money overseas, and instead build an economy here in Nigeria for all.
“We will always know how PDP politicians raided the NNPC, consistently failed to pay into the Federation Account and, in the last year of PDP misrule, $20 billion dollars was simply found “missing”.
“Today with APC, funds from NNPC are directly and transparently used to fund social and health programmes – such as COVID-19 response, the construction of roads, bridges and rail, and equipping of hospitals to cope with new and existing challenges.
“And then there are those PDP leaders in attendance who signed the Communique. Who would trust such people with the running of our country?”
Garba Shehu asked again: “who can believe a word these people say, as they looked outwardly stylish but harrowed by power-sharing and other troubles inwardly?
“These people, who play politics of division and hate, create communal disturbances, need to change.
“The Governors reeled out numbers on the economy, pretending as if the once-in-a-life COVID-19 pandemic, with its huge and devastating effect, disrupting global supply chains, uniformly battering the world economy never happened.
“Covid-19 brought suffering and hardship to the doorstep of the entire global community-less maybe, of the affluent and pretentious PDP Governors-and to the credit of this administration, Nigeria’s economy recovered faster and stronger than the entire world ever imagined.
“Check the facts and leave the politics: What does the country get with this kind of gimmick?”
Haters of God and humanity struck on Monday, bombing the Abuja-Kaduna train. They then proceeded to open fire on passengers of the immobilized coaches. It was premeditated murder from the very bottom of hell.
See the toll of the carnage. Promising lives, cut short. Destinies terminated. Hopes and plans, ruptured. People who committed no sin, no crime, except that they lived in the same space with people who hate God, who loathe humanity, and who despise themselves. Hell awaits them, indeed, the hottest part of that nether region, “where their worms do not die, and the fire is never quenched.”
May God rest the souls of the dead, console their loved ones, cause rescue to come for the kidnapped. And the evildoers? They have their comeuppance awaiting them. “Though hands join to hands, the wicked shall not go unpunished.”
Whoever or whatever they are, terrorists, bandits, it doesn’t matter. They sow evil, and they will reap it. They do not deserve to live. Not in this world, nor the next. They need to be sent to their master, the Devil, and speedily too. They are like the British satanist and occultist, Aleister Crowley, who after a lifetime of evil and repudiation of God, said to himself on his deathbed: “I am perplexed. Sometimes I hate myself.” Yes, they hate God, loathe humanity, and despise themselves.
The rail revolution in the country has been hailed for its safety, comfort, luxury. Now the evil people have come to show that they hate safety, comfort, luxury. They abhor any form of progress or development. They prefer to live in the Stone Age, out there in the wild, visiting sorrow, tears and blood on humanity.
The President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government has taken some right steps in response to the tragedy. The President has summoned the Service Chiefs, and the Inspector General of Police, giving the marching orders once again. You know what he once said at a security council meeting? “Wipe out these evil people. Kill them. Eliminate them. Nigerians love me, they trust me. That is why they keep voting for me. Wipe them out. Kill them. Eliminate them.”
Short of personally carrying a gun to confront the troublers of the country (he did that in his younger days), President Buhari has given the necessary support to the different security agencies. He has equipped them, trained them, boosted their morale in different ways. And they, too, have risen to the occasion. Daily, they are dispatching the evil people to meet their principal, the Devil. But those ones keep coming like locusts. You cut their fingers, they are even wearing rings.
However, there’s one thing we are sure of. Evil has never overcome good. Light has never conquered darkness. Nigeria will win. This country will be rid of terrorists, insurgents, bandits, ritual killers, all forms of criminals. As night inexorably follows the day, and dawn comes again, it will happen.
But the role of some Nigerians in perpetuating anomie in the country is worrisome. Through their tongues. They say evil about the country, utter negativity, thinking they are saying it against the government of the day. I mean even bishops, pastors, imams, commentators, talk show hosts, all sorts. They are engaged in war of tongues with Nigeria. They don’t know that the more they say it, the more evil happens. The cup fills up, and runs over. Let’s change our tongues. Change our hearts about our country. Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. Let’s begin to bless our country, rather than curse, and sow negatives in the hearts of people.
As horrendous as the train bombing is, do you know that some people are playing politics with it? See that statement from the failure called PDP, reducing the development to just leadership by the All Progressives Congress, APC. In such national tragedy? I’ve never seen a more silly, otiose, idiotic statement. All because of power, which if God wills, they may never smell again in their lifetimes? How imprudent, incautious, can some people be!
I remember an interview the then General Muhammadu Buhari granted to The News magazine in its maiden edition. Trying to defend some punishments considered draconian under his leadership as military head of state, he gave the illustration of people who vandalize electricity facilities supplying power to a major hospital. And in the process, all premature babies in the incubators died. He said, why don’t you shoot those kind of evildoers, so that those young babies could live?
I agree. Those who visit evil on society do not deserve to live, no matter what some activists may say. They should be sent to hell, and I join the President to plead with our security agencies: wipe them out. Kill them. Eliminate them. They have declared war against the country and its people. We are at war, yes we are.
They do not deserve to live. They have lost their humanity. Wipe them out. Kill. Eliminate.
