Chief Olusegu Obasanjo

Former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has described the election of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as the 46th President-elect and Vice President-elect respectively in the United States of America as a victory of good over evil.

In his congratulatory message to Biden today, November 7, Obasanjo, said that the people of the world had watched helplessly how the world was being pulled down under President Donald Trump.

“Not that the world was perfect and equitable but it was reasonably predictable with some measure of rule of law and respect for international agreements and treaties.”

Don’t Claim Victory Yet; Election Is Far From Over, Trump Yells At Biden

President of the United States of America, Donald Trump has asked the President-elect, Joe Biden not to claim victory yet as the election is far from over.

In a statement today, November 7, President Trump accused Democratic candidate Biden of claiming victory, insisting that the election is far from over..

According to him, Biden has not been certified as the winner in any of the highly contested states headed for mandatory recounts, saying that in Pennsylvania, his campaign’s legal observers were not permitted meaningful access to watch the counting process.

The Republican Presidential candidate stressed that legal votes decide who is President, not the news media.

He announced that from Monday, his campaign will start prosecuting cases in court to ensure that election laws are fully upheld and the rightful winner is seated.

President Trump noted that Americans are entitled to an honest election to ensure public confidence.

“It remains shocking that the Biden campaign refuses to agree with this basic principle and wants ballots counted even if they are fraudulent, manufactured, or cast by ineligible or deceased voters.”

Trump said that only a party engaged in wrongdoing would unlawfully keep observers out of the count room and then fight in court to block their access.

“So what is Biden hiding? I will not rest until the American People have the honest vote count they deserve and that Democracy demands.”

Buhari Congratulates US President-Elect, Biden, Hopes He’ll Add Value To World Affairs

President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated former Vice President Joe Biden on his election as new President of the United States at a time of uncertainty and fear in world affairs.

The Nigerian leader, in a statement by his spokesman, Malam Garba Shehu, hoped that Biden will add value to the presidency and world affairs

“Your election is a significant reminder that democracy is the best form of government because it offers the people the opportunity to change their government by peaceful means.

“The most powerful group are not the politicians, but voters who can decide the fate of the politicians at the polling booth. The main fascination of democracy is the freedom of choice and the supremacy of the will of the people.

“Respect for the will of the people is the very reason why democracy remains the best form of government, despite its limitations from one polity to another, and from one society to another.”

“I am thrilled by the fact that you are an experienced politician who had served as Congressman for 40 years and a Vice President for eight years. This is a remarkable track record that gives us hope that you will add value to the presidency and world affairs.

“With your election, we look forward to greater cooperation between Nigeria and the United States, especially at economic, diplomatic and political levels, including the war against terrorism.

On international affairs, President Buhari urged Biden to deploy your vast experience in tackling the negative consequences of nationalist politics on world affairs which have created divisions, conflicts and uncertainties.

The Nigerian leader also called on the US President-elect to introduce greater engagement with Africa on the basis of reciprocal respects and shared interests.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has commanded officers of the Nigeria Police Force to apply all legitimate forces to resist all riotous elements forthwith and to checkmate any form of violent/riotous protests.

He said that such directive was derived from Section 33 (1) & (2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), which among other things, provides for the use of such force as is reasonably necessary for the defence of any person from unlawful violence or for the defence of property, in order to effect a lawful arrest or to prevent the escape of a person lawfully detained or for the purpose of suppressing a riot, insurrection or mutiny.

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum has said that military force and “war” cannot end Boko Haram insurgency in the country.

“The kinetic measures will not solve the problem. There must be some certain political solutions. Among the political solutions are the issues of supporting the Nigerian youths with a means to earning their livelihood.

“As I had said before, there is need for us to address the root causes of the problem. One of the greatest root causes of the insurgency is poverty.”

Governor Zulum who spoke to news men today, November 6, shortly after an audience with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential villa, Abuja, advised government at all levels to create job opportunities to the youths.

He stressed the need also for the government to provide enabling environment for the poor to have access to their farmlands.

“That is what I have been advocating for since I assumed the mantle of leadership as governor of Borneo State.

“We want to ensure that  people return to their communities; that people have access to their farmlands, their livestock farms, aquaculture farms.

“I think this is the only solution. Military solution alone will never solve the problem.”

UN warns About Looming Famine In Nigeria, 3 Other African Countries

Experts in the United Nation (UN’s) World Food Program (WFP) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) have warned about looming acute starvation in Nigeria, Burkina Faso, South Sudan and Yemen and that the risk of famine is currently high in these countries.

The UN agencies explained that these nations are going through conflicts, economic crises, climatic disasters and coronavirus pandemic, adding that the combination of all these factors results in an increase in food insecurity among their inhabitants.

WFP expert, Claudia Ah Poe, said: “these countries already had significant food security problems at the beginning of 2020 and will face a further deterioration of their situation in the coming months.”

He said that 20 countries have already been declared at risk.

In early 2020, WFP estimated that some 121 million people were at risk of food insecurity in 80 countries. This number, however, could be expanded because of the pandemic.

Compared to what happened in 2019, for example, Burkina Faso has registered the highest increase in people who suffer from hunger. Soum and Oudalan provinces are in “phase 4” of a scale of food insecurity whose maximum value is 5. In these territories, 11,000 people are already in the last phase, that is, in a situation of famine.

In South Sudan, half a million people are in phase 4 in Junqali State. In Yemen, where 17 million people were in a food crisis at the beginning of the year, the situation has worsened as an additional 1.2 million people have fallen into crisis in recent months.

Nigeria’s problem is the inability to access certain areas with humanitarian aid, which means that many people are left to their own resources, FAO analyst Luca Russo explained.

Technically, famine occurs when 20 percent of a population is severely starved of food. The WFP spokesperson Tomson Phiri highlighted the need for a larger budget and better access to some areas to reach the people who need it.

He has also stressed that what those countries really need is to achieve peace in order to have real opportunities to solve their social problems.

Biden, a Democratic candidate for the U.S. President, had launched an official transition website, www.buildbackbetter.com. On the www.buildbackbetter.com website is a short statement that reiterates Biden’s earlier assertion that it is the American people that will decide who becomes the next U.S. president.

He had said that the crises facing the country are severe — from a pandemic to an economic recession, climate change to racial injustice.

“The transition team will continue preparing at full speed so that the Biden Harris Administration can hit the ground running on Day One.

“I’m not here to declare that we’ve won, but I am here to report when the count is finished, we believe we will be the winners.”

President Trump Complains Of His Victory Being Whittled Away In Secret

U.S President, Donald Trump

President Donald Trump is complaining loudly of his electoral victory being whittled away in secret, even as he rejected election results which are still being counted in some states.

Speaking from the White House, President said: “we were winning in all the key locations, by a lot actually, and then our numbers started getting miraculously whittled away in secret and they wouldn’t allow legally permissible observers.

“There’s been a lot of shenanigans and we can’t stand for that in our country.”

He is angry that mail-in votes are still being counted, even as some critics claimed that Trump lost ground in some of the states because he actively discouraged his supporters from voting by mail, while Democrat Joe Biden urged his voters to use postal ballots.

It is the postal votes that are now being tallied in the key states.

The US general elections were concluded on Tuesday and counting has continued since then.
