Leader of the outlawed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu has said that his men infiltrated EndSARS protesters to cause mayhem, especially in Lagos this week. “I asked my members to infiltrate the #EndSARS protesters and team up with the protesters, so we can make the country ungovernable. Our aim is very clear ” In a monitored phone–in program on Radio Biafra, Kanu pointedly claimed: ”I gave instructions that my members must target Tinubu and his investments. Now, his hotel is in flames.” He vowed to relentlessly pursue Tinubu to anywhere he may be in Europe. ”We will track him down and make him see the anger of IPOB, the largest mass movement in the world. Just track him for me.” Nnamdi Kanu said: “this will continue until we achieve our purpose of breaking the country or until people in the zoo realize that they have to let Biafra be.”
President Muhammadu Buhari has called on the Nigerian youths to resist the temptation of being used by some subversive elements to cause chaos with the aim of truncating the nation’s nascent democracy.
He also appealed to them to take advantage of the various well-thought-out initiatives of his administration, designed to make their lives better and more meaningful, even as he reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to preserving the unity of this country.
The President, who addressed the nation today, October 22 on the ongoing EndSARS protests in some parts of the country that had degenerated into riots and deaths, assured that his government will continue to ensure that liberty and freedom, as well as the fundamental rights of all citizens are protected but that he would not allow anyone or group of people to undermine national security and the law and order situation.
“Under no circumstances will this be tolerated.”
President Buhari called on the youths to discontinue the street protests and constructively engage government in finding solutions, saying that their voice had been heard loud and clear “and we are responding.
“And I call on all Nigerians to go about their normal businesses, and enjoin security agencies to protect lives and properties of all law abiding citizens without doing harm to those they are meant to protect. Let me pay tribute to officers of the Nigeria Police Force who have tragically lost their lives in the line of duty.”
Here’s the full text of his speech:
Fellow Nigerians,
It has become necessary for me to address you having heard from many concerned Nigerians and having concluded a meeting with all the Security Chiefs.
I must warn those who have hijacked and misdirected the initial, genuine and well – intended protest of some of our youths in parts of the country, against the excesses of some members of the now disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
On Monday 12th October, I acknowledged the genuine concerns and agitations of members of the public regarding the excessive use of force by some members of SARS.
The choice to demonstrate peacefully is a fundamental right of citizens as enshrined in Section 40 of our Constitution and other enactments; but this right to protest also imposes on the demonstrators the responsibility to respect the rights of other citizens, and the necessity to operate within the law.
As a democratic government, we listened to, and carefully evaluated the five-point demands of the protesters. And, having accepted them, we immediately scrapped SARS, and put measures in place to address the other demands of our youth.
On approving the termination of SARS, I already made it clear that it was in line with our commitment to the implementation of extensive Police reforms.
Sadly, the promptness with which we have acted seemed to have been misconstrued as a sign of weakness and twisted by some for their selfish unpatriotic interests.
The result of this is clear to all observers: human lives have been lost; acts of sexual violence have been reported; two major correctional facilities were attacked and convicts freed; public and private properties completely destroyed or vandalised; the sanctity of the Palace of a Peace Maker, the Oba of Lagos has been violated. So-called protesters have invaded an International Airport and in the process disrupted the travel plans of fellow Nigerians and our visitors.
All these executed in the name of the ENDSARS protests. I am indeed deeply pained that innocent lives have been lost. These tragedies are uncalled for and unnecessary. Certainly, there is no way whatsoever to connect these bad acts to legitimate expression of grievance of the youth of our country.
The spreading of deliberate falsehood and misinformation through the social media in particular, that this government is oblivious to the pains and plight of its citizens is a ploy to mislead the unwary within and outside Nigeria into unfair judgement and disruptive behaviour.
On the contrary, both our deeds and words have shown how committed this administration has been to the wellbeing and welfare of citizens, even with the steadily dwindling revenues, and the added responsibilities and restrictions due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Government has put in place measures and initiatives principally targeted at youths, women and the most vulnerable groups in our society. These included our broad plan to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in the next 10 years; the creation of N75 billion National Youth Investment Fund to provide opportunities for the youths and the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Survival Fund, through which government is:
paying three months salaries of the staff of 100,000 micro, small – and medium – enterprises,
paying for the registration of 250,000 businesses at the Corporate Affairs Commission,
giving a grant of N30,000 to 100,000 artisans; and
guaranteeing market for the products of traders.
These are in addition to many other initiatives such as;
Farmermoni,
Tradermoni,
Marketmoni,
N-Power,
N-Tech and
N-Agro.
No Nigerian Government in the past has methodically and seriously approached poverty-alleviation like we have done.
With regard to the welfare of police personnel, the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission has been directed to expedite action on the finalization of the new salary structure of members of the Nigeria Police Force. The emoluments of other paramilitary services are also being reviewed upwards.
In order to underscore the importance of education in preparing youths for the future, this administration has come up with a new salary structure and other incentives for our teachers.
Let me at this point reaffirm the Federal Government’s commitment to preserving the unity of this country.
We will continue to improve good governance and our democratic process, including through sustained engagement.
We shall continue to ensure that liberty and freedom, as well as the fundamental rights of all citizens are protected.
But remember that government also has the obligation to protect lives and properties, as well as the right of citizens to go about their daily businesses freely and protected from acts of violence.
To our neighbours in particular, and members of the international community, many of whom have expressed concern about the ongoing development in Nigeria, we thank you and urge you all to seek to know all the facts available before taking a position or rushing to judgment and making hasty pronouncements.
In the circumstances, I would like to appeal to protesters to note and take advantage of the various well-thought-out initiatives of this administration designed to make their lives better and more meaningful, and resist the temptation of being used by some subversive elements to cause chaos with the aim of truncating our nascent democracy.
For you to do otherwise will amount to undermining national security and the law and order situation. Under no circumstances will this be tolerated.
I therefore call on our youths to discontinue the street protests and constructively engage government in finding solutions. Your voice has been heard loud and clear and we are responding.
And I call on all Nigerians to go about their normal businesses, and enjoin security agencies to protect lives and properties of all law abiding citizens without doing harm to those they are meant to protect. Let me pay tribute to officers of the Nigeria Police Force who have tragically lost their lives in the line of duty.
I would like to thank those state Governors, traditional and religious leaders who have appealed for calm and restraint. I also thank youth leaders who have restrained their followers from taking the law into their hands.
This government respects and will continue to respect all the democratic rights and civil liberties of the people, but it will not allow anybody or groups to disrupt the peace of our nation.
Thank you all. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The South-West governors have raised alarm over what they called external infiltration into the region by agents of darkness, hiding under the #EndSARS protests.
Chairman South West Governor’s Forum and the governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, who spoke on behalf of the governors in the region, said that the protest that started on the peaceful and purpose-driven note, was hijacked by some people, ostensibly to execute a destructive design.
Akeredolu said that the governors in the region responded positively to the demands of the agitators by setting up a Judicial Panel Inquiry in their various states to look into the alleged violation of people’s rights and incidence of police brutality after the National Economic Council meeting held on October 16, 2020.
“You will recall that the Inspector General of Police issued an order disbanding the special unit formerly known as Special Anti-Robbery Unit (SARS) in the wake of the protests across the country.
“Recent development leaves us with no other option than to believe that there may have been other reasons for the continued protests, well-coordinated and funded.
“The spread of fake news and videos, which followed an allegation of shooting by some soldiers with a claimed heavy casualty figure at the Lekki Toll Gate, Victoria Island, Lagos, is primarily responsible for the subsequent loss of lives and property.
“We commiserate with the families of victims of violence across Lagos State and slain Policemen. We pray that the Almighty grant them the fortitude to bear these avoidable losses.
“We also note, with much pain and sadness, the vast and spreading destruction of property belonging to notable individuals and vestiges of our collective patrimony and pride.
“The Governors of the South West States of Nigeria wish to solidarise with the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo Olu, on the unfortunate occurrences of the past few days in Lagos State, which have impacted, negatively, on the whole Region.
“It is disquieting, to assert the least, that a protest, widely acclaimed as peaceful and purpose-driven, has been hijacked by some people, ostensibly to execute a destructive design.
“We commiserate with His Royal Majesty, Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, on the sacrilege committed at his palace and condemn in no unmistakable terms the vile attack on Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and destruction of businesses where it is believed he has an interest, TVC, THE NATION to mention a few.
“This regression into savagery exposes our land as not only vulnerable but susceptible to vile manipulations by elements keenly anxious to annihilate the South -est and destroy our common heritage.
“We are deeply concerned with the ease with which public buildings, utilities, police stations and investments of our people have been burnt despite the proximity of security agencies in those areas. We call on the heads of all security agencies to be alive to their obligations to defend the country.”
He charged the security agencies to investigate all cases of violence with a view to identifying the culprits.
“We are particularly worried that 48 hours, after the unfortunate incident at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos by persons adorning military fatigue, there has been no definitive statement from the military authorities on the incident.
“Our anxiety becomes heightened by the categorical denial of the Governor of Lagos State concerning the deployment. No Governor has the power to authorise the deployment of military personnel in Nigeria.
“We note, with great relief, the confirmation by the Governor that no fatality was recorded at the Lekki Toll Gate incident based on visits to hospitals, mortuaries, both private and public. There were no doubt different levels of
injury to persons arising from the incident at the Lekki Toll Gate.
“Consequently, we insist that full investigation be conducted to ascertain the veracity of the news items liberally circulated by some local media. It is becoming very clear that the conflagration may have been caused by deliberate deployment “a weapon of mass confusion” apology to Dr Ope Banwo. The attendant damage was extensive and massive.
“The selective application of jungle justice raises suspicion as regards the real motive of the arsonists and vandals. We use this medium to appeal to the youth, especially those of South West extraction, to be circumspect lest they
lend themselves to the evil schemes of those who want to destroy our land.
“The protests started off as genuine, demanding reforms and restitution. The current happenings across the South-West, especially Lagos State, have exposed dubiousness and complicity evidencing malice afore-thought.
“We enjoin our youth to rise up to defend our land and people against the diabolical incursions ravaging our space. What do we stand to gain destroying ourselves?
“We cannot continue to fold our hands and watch our heritage destroyed and our people suffer. We must engage, constructively, all those whose dubious solutions to a social problem is the descent to anarchy. We appeal to them to ‘CALM DOWN’.
“We commend the Governor of Lagos State for his administrative acumen. We note his patience and understanding in the face of unwarranted provocation by agents of darkness. We stand, resolutely, with him at this trying period.
“We should not allow brigandage and wanton destruction of lives and property within our walls in the South-West. As we await reports from relevant agencies and action of Government, we appeal to the young ones again to suspend the #ENDSARS protest, remain calm and vigilant.”
The National Examinations Council (NECO) has rescheduled its examinations scheduled for October 22, 23 and 24 to November 17, 18 and 19, as a result of the insecurity and curfew imposed by some states. In a statement today, October 21, the Head of Information and Public Relations Division of NECO, Azeez Sani said: “this is to inform the general public and especially candidates that the National Examinations Council (NECO) has been constrained by circumstances beyond its control, to reschedule the papers meant for Thursday, Oct. 22, Friday, Oct. 23 and Saturday, Oct. 24.
”The affected papers are now scheduled for 17th, 18th and 19th November 2020.
”The examination time table for these papers will be made available subsequently.
“These changes were due to the security challenges, which led to the imposition of curfew and closure of schools by some state governments in order to safeguard lives and properties,’’ he said.
Sani said that the development became difficult for the council to move examination materials across the country.
”The Council prays that the examinations will continue on Tuesday, Oct. 27, all things being equal, with the papers as originally scheduled in the examination time table.”
The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Dr. Muhammad Sa‘ad Abubakar , has commended Nigerian Muslims for handling with maturity and moderation, the ongoing EndSARS protests in parts of the country.
This is even as he ordered for a special prayer to be offered in all Mosques across the country on Friday, October 23 for peace to return to Nigeria
A statement today, October 21 by the Chairman of the NSCIA Media Committee, Femi Abbas, quoted the Sultan as imploring Muslims across the country to ensure that they do not get distracted from the scope of Islamic guidance concerning conflict and resolution at any time.
Dr. Sa’ad Abubakar particularly praised the Imams of the various Mosques in all parts of Nigeria for not transgressing in their Friday sermons during the crisis, either by maligning any group or individual personalities or by instigating any particular tribe or religious adherents against another, directly or indirectly.
The full text of the special statement is reproduced here:
As a matter of serious concern and urgent expectation of tranquility in Nigeria, the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), has declared the coming Friday, October 23, 2020, as a day of special prayer for the nation. In an admonishing statement personally addressed to all Nigerian Muslims, by the Council’s President General and Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Dr. Muhammad Sa‘ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, a strong emphasis was laid on the fact that only a peaceful environment backed up by fervent prayer could propel hope and harmony for the citizens of any country in which God is believed to be in control.
The statement which was issued in the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful, and which emphasized harmonious coexistence of all Nigerians, came in form of a special press release, with a tone of commendationand admonition.
While issuing the statement, His Eminence pleasantly commended the Nigerian Muslims generally for handling the ongoing ‘ENDSARS’ mass protests with moderation, according to Islamic norm and as expected of them as Muslims.
He implored them to further ensure that they do not get distracted from the scope of Islamic guidance concerning conflict and resolution at any time.
He particularly praised the Imams of the various Mosques in all parts of Nigeria, for not transgressing in their Friday sermons during the crisis, either by maligning any group or individual personalities or by instigating any particular tribe or religious adherents against another, directly or indirectly.
He then requested all Nigerian Imams to dedicate their sermons of the coming Friday, October 23, 2020, to the ongoing crisis in the country, by calming down the strained nerves with their clement preaching for peace as well as their verbal ventilation ofthe national atmosphere for permanent tranquility to the benefit of all and sundry.
His Eminence also implored all Nigerian Muslim congregations to heartily join their Imams in offering a special prayer, on Friday, for the stability of Nigeria in the present time as well as in future.
He said that for any people who believed fervently in Allah, there could never be a crisis that was irresolvable with prayer. Such a special prayer, according to him, should not be limited to Nigerian Muslims living in Nigeria alone, other Nigerians.
He said other Nigerian Muslims who are residing abroad should also join their brothers and sisters at home in this crucial prayer, since Nigeria is for all Nigerians, irrespective of their places of residence.
His Eminence then prayed personally for Nigeria and Nigerians saying “he beseeched Allah never to allow the bountiful blessings with which He (Allah) gloriously endows our country to end up in a regrettable history.”
While appealing to the government to sincerely consider a quick implementation of the demands of the protesting youths to which it has graciously agreed, His Eminence also counseled the protesters to allow the government to act positively on those demands in the overall interest of peace and tranquility for our country.
Meanwhile, His Eminence has cautioned Nigerian Muslim youths against joining any evil gang of violence into which some disgruntled Nigerian adults, with hidden agenda, may cunningly lure them with a bait that can lead them to irreversible contrition.
He counseled those youths to be wary of any sugar-coated utterances that may eventually turn their hope into forlorn and jeopardize their future at a time when the deceptive elements will not be available for rescue.
The Lagos state governor has confirmed on the news that himself and the health commissioner went round the hospitals in Lagos and couldn’t identify the corps of any victim of the so much advertised Lekki shooting where thousands died according to Biafrans. The enemies of Nigeria are gradually winning by propaganda and lies via social media and Nigeria hungry journalists and their news media. What is even most worrisome and surprising is that the Southwest people were so unwise to know that the advocates of Biafra just want to help them destroy Lagos which is their economic power. How many business interests and major government revenue agencies were destroyed in Southeast? How many of their first class chiefs were humiliated and sent out of their palaces as was done to Oba of Lagos who was neither a soldier nor police in this crisis? How many Igbos and Hausas are working in all the establishments of Tinubu that were burnt down compared to the Yorubas? How many Igbos and Hausas are been served by the BRT buses burnt down compared to the Yorubas benefiting from it? And many others. The Igbos wanted to replicate same in Abuja but besides the superior power of the government, the indigenes and Northerners said NO. Nnamdi Kanu mentioned Tinubu as their target and left out all the Igbo leaders close to government and the Yorubas were happy. The Yorubas never ask what has he done that the Igbo leaders did not do as a sin. The Edo protesters where confew was first declared were so wise that they did not destroy their economic facilities rather they went and released their brothers in the prison to enjoy freedom. Then you ask yourself the big question: “WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE CALLED YORUBAS IN NIGERIA”? Under listed are some of the public properties destroyed in Lagos: 1. Nigeria Port Authority Lagos – set ablaze 2. Orile Police Post, Lagos – set ablaze 3. Lekki Toll Gate, Lagos – totally destroyed 4. BRT Terminal, Oyingbo – New Buses set on fire 5. Television Continental, Ketu, Lagos – set ablaze 6. VIO, FRSC Office, Ojodu – FRSC branded cars, generators set ablaze. 7. BRT Terminal, Ojodu, Lagos – buses set ablaze. 8. BRT Bus at Berger – set ablaze 9. Lagos Television, Agidingbi, Ikeja – shut down 10. Recreational Center, Oregun, Lagos – set on fire. 11. Oba’s Palace, Lagos – burnt to ashes. His scepter of authority seized. 12. Sanwo Olu Mother’s House, Surulere, Lagos – set ablaze 13 Kings college on fire 14. Many lives lost already to the protests all in Lagos and south west. 15. Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island Lagos, burnt 16. GTBank Branches burnt down 17. AccessBank Branches burnt down 18. Channels Television shut down 19. Ajeromi Local Govt Secretariat 20. Lagos-Island Local Govt destroyed 21. Lagos-Island East LCDA Secretariat set on fire 22. Lagos Mainland Local Govt Secretariat Destroyed 23. Ibeju Lekki LCDA Secretariat destroyed 24. Sanwoolu’s Uncle’s house on Lagos Island. 25. Ejigbo LCDA burn. 26. Many local council SECRETARIATS burn down now. in Lagos state. Still counting…. Several Yoruba heritage buildings and private properties burnt down and you still believe this is about protest or fall out from Army’s shooting… Someone or people somewhere have declared war on Lagos State and by extension on the South-West. Only a fool will clap while his father’s house is being destroyed. It is a pity Yoruba never ronu the IPOB militants are burning our heritage and we are jubilating. BRT is not in other state NPA, TVC is an asset we are proud of in Yoruba land. We are shouting we want Oduduwa nation and they are destroying what we could use to survive as a nation and we are jubilating. Despite what Atiku Abubakar did as a Vice President to corner all the resources of this country to himself no single person from Adamawa protested against him. Tinubu was never a President or Vice President or a minister but just a former Governor, like James Onanefe ibori who the Deltans celebrate like an idol despite what he did in Delta. Yoruba, if you allow this IPOB and its cohorts to destroy our common heritage it is left for you. This is the way they deceived us to betray Awolowo while they kept hailing their own Zik. Yoruba Ronu. EndSARS is not in the southwest alone. They were in the entire country. Do we hear they are burning homes and monuments in other parts of the country? In Ekiti State, if not because of the arrest that have been made they would have started burning houses. As I am typing this message, I heard that they have started burning APC Secretarial in Ondo State. Yoruba Ronu. What is the offence of Tinubu? Just because he developed Lagos, why can’t they develop the IPOB states despite the huge resources that were allocated to them? Lagos is not complaining that Tinubu stole their money. What is the problem of the IPOB? Ironu ikoko ni yio paja won. The IPOB people are setting us against ourselves. Awa omo Yoruba, please let us come together and protect our own. Tinubu is an asset to Yoruba nation. He has built more people than any other persons in this land: you cannot go and burn Atikus refinery in South Africa. You cannot go and burn Edwin Clerk University in Ghana. You cannot go and burn James Ibori refinery in Liberia neither can you go and burn other monuments of the IPOB in other countries. This is the way they criticized Obasanjo before he forced Jonathan on Nigeria. The Arewas are looking at us and laughing. The south versus the south just because the yanmirin want power at all costs. Yoruba Ronu.
A group known as Buhari Media Organisation accused some political and religious leaders of fuelling the EndSARS protesters despite the fact that the government had acceded to their original demands.
It said in a statement by its Chairman, Niyi Akinsiju and Secretary, Cassidy Madueke, that the turn of events in some parts of the country is the outcome of their misguided support.
“We had quietly watched the antics of some influential members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Senate President Bukola Saraki on one hand, and religious leaders like Apostle Johnson Suleiman and Bishop David Oyedepo who have been giving tacit support to the protesters.
“This was even after President Muhammad Buhari had given his words on the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and taken far-reaching steps to meet all the five original demands of what we agree were legitimate.
“Now that the protests have become volatile with clear cases of arson attacks on Police stations in some key cities, mob attacks on policemen and at least 2 jailbreaks aside from clashes between opposing groups, we are surprised that we have not seen them express the same energy they used to promote violence to call for calm.
“We make bold to say that these influential leaders of thought should have been playing a more statesmanlike role despite their political stance knowing how volatile such a protest without a clear exit plan could be.
“This was even at a time that the original advocate of EndSARS Segun Awosanya had made it clear that the issue had gone beyond calling for police reforms.
The group appealed to local and foreign funders of the EndSARS protests to desist from acts capable of creating more hardship for Nigerians.
” It is a matter of fact that the protesters’ strategy of blocking major highways has been preventing movement of goods and services as well as people engaging in economic activities.
“So it was clear that it would have some effects on the bottom line of individuals and corporate bodies especially in a place like Lagos where a large chunk of Nigeria’s VAT receipt comes from.
“And just before the state government imposed a 24-hour curfew in the state, some of the protesters had moved into the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos while others had plans to stop activities at the port.
” At the last count, the Nigerian economy has lost N700bn, according to the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) which also believes that there was no reason for the EndSARS protests to continue based on the government’s response.
“So it was clear that what was meant as a legitimate protest against Police brutality had morphed into something targeted at creating anarchy and grinding an economy that has been badly hit by the twin impact of lower oil prices and Covid-19 pandemic.
“We believe that those funding the protests through the Feminist Coalition should tread cautiously or be seen as an enemy of the state”
The group urged Nigerians to trust President Buhari’s ability to effect the long-expected Police reforms and bequeath a modern Police Force for posterity which everyone would be proud of.
Citizen Adamu Garba, who was a presidential aspirant in the 2019 election in Nigeria, has dragged the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Twitter, Jack Dorsey to a Federal High Court in Abuja, the nation’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT), over an alleged plot to use EndSARS protesters to overthrow President Muhammadu Buhari.
Adamu Garba is also asking the Court to order the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to shut down the social media platform, and as well to order the Twitter owner to pay $1 Billion as damages to Nigeria
The complainant, who has a Twitter account, posted a video today, October 20, explaining his action, insisting that Dorsey is sponsoring an alleged plot to oust President Buhari.
Adamu Garba said that the tech mogul threw his weight behind the donation of funds through a bitcoin account, stressing that as a patriotic citizen, he cannot sit idly.
In his fundamental human rights suit, Adamu Garba prayed the court to “direct the 7th respondent (NCC) to stop the operation of Twitter International Company in any part of the territory of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
He tweeted: “If you truly love Nigeria, you should love these demands from Jack:
“Pay $1bn as compensation to the victims of #EndSARS; Twitter to set up offices in Nigeria, hire Nigerians & pay taxes; He should apologize to Nigerian people & government”.
Garba added that the demands “should be celebrated.”
Twitter and Dorsey are yet to react to the lawsuit.
The Department of State Services (DSS) has washed its hands off the news making the round that its personnel are aiding pro-SARS supporters and thugs to attack #EndSARS protesters in Abuja.
The Service said that part of the untruth being spewed to the public is that some of its officials attached to certain VIPs aided thugs in this regard.
A statement today, October 20 by the DSS spokesman, Peter Afunanya, stressed that no DSS personnel has, so far, been identified to be involved in the alleged acts.
The statement said that the fact that SUVs and persons dressed in suits and sighted in conflict environments did not immediately meant that they are of the DSS.
“Fact is that no staff of the DSS will engage in acts as the ones being peddled by these rumour mongers and hate speakers.
“The Service is a responsible professional Organization and will endeavor to remain so at all times. It, therefore, wishes to state that the allegations leveled against it are not true and can only be taken as false narratives designed to cast it in bad image as well as inflame the protests.
“Consequently, the public is enjoined to disregard the falsehood emanating from sections of the social and mainstream media, subversive groups and interests. The Service uses this opportunity to call on citizens to eschew bitterness, remain law abiding and cooperate with security agencies and indeed, the Government for lasting peace and public safety.”
Driver of an Ambulance attached to Kuje General Hospital in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, narrowly escaped death in the hands of EndSARS protesters in Lugbe, airport road today, October 20. Report reaching us at Greenbarge Reporters said that the glasses of the Ambulance were broken and was completely vandalised. The Ambulance was said to have been dispatched by the hospital management to convey the medical staff of the hospital who were stranded in Lugbe as a result of the blockage mounted by the protester.
Some of the medical staff in the Ambulance said they jumped off the vehicle when the attackers came dangling cutlasses and other dangerous weapons, and ran into the bush.
The driver, who gave his name simply as Jibril, said that the Ambulance was completely vandalised, even as he escaped from the scene with minor injury.
“The protesters attacked only government vehicles,” the driver said.
