We’ll Not Allow Sowore To Cause Trouble And Disappear To His US Home – Presidency

“Nigerians do not need another spate of lawlessness and loss of lives all in the name of ‘revolution’, especially not one that is orchestrated by a man who makes his home in far away New York – and who can easily disappear and leave behind whatever instability he intends to cause, to wit, Nnamdi Kanu.”
Senior Special Assistant to the President on media and publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, in a statement today, December 8, recounted the ugly scenes Boko Haram, Herdsmen, Niger Delta militants and others have caused the country, saying that Omoyele Sowore, publisher of SaharaReporters should be allowed to face the Directorate of State Security (DSS) in accordance with its powers.
Garba Shehu said that the country is already dealing with an insurgency that has left millions of people displaced and desperate in the northeastern region of the country.
“The Boko Haram militants, who are behind the violence, also fancy themselves to be fighting for some sort of revolution.”
He argued that the DSS does not necessarily need the permission of the Presidency in all cases to carry out its essential responsibilities that are laid down in the Nigerian Constitution – which was the foundation for the restoration of democracy in our country in 1999.
He said that through his actions and words, Sowore had made himself a person of interest to the DSS, recalling that he recently called for a revolution to overthrow the democratically elected government of Nigeria.
“He did so on television, and from a privileged position as the owner of a widely read digital newspaper run from the United States of America.
“He founded an organisation, Revolution Now, to launch, in their own words, “Days of Rage” with the publicised purpose of fomenting mass civil unrest and the elected administration’s overthrow.
“No government will allow anybody to openly call for destabilization in the country and do nothing.
“Sowore is no ordinary citizen expressing his views freely on social media and the internet.
“He was a presidential candidate himself, who ran – and lost – as the flag bearer of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the February 23 general elections.”
Garba Shehu stressed that Nigeria’s democracy was a long time in the making, and was achieved after decades of often harsh, military-led overthrows of government: the kind of situation Sowore was advocating.
“To believe in and desire armed revolution is not normal amongst ‘human rights activists’, as Sowore has been incorrectly described.
“Again, it is no surprise that he should be a person of interest to the DSS.”

We Re-Arrested Sowore For Threatening To Call For Violence After His Release – DSS

The Department of State Service (DSS) has explained that its operatives re-arrested the publisher of SaharaReporters online, Omoyele Sowore because of his threat to call for violence in the country even after his release from detention.

In a statement today, December, DSS spokesman, Peter Afunanya said that the Sowore “resorted to acts inimical to security” shortly after his release on December 5, recalling his statement, dated 25th July 2019 thus: ““I’m not talking of protest. I’m embarking on revolution… Don’t tell me about legal implications or what a Judge will say. I don’t care …”

DSS said that Sowore had also reassured some group of persons that he will create anarchy in the country after his release on 5th of December.

The service said that the rearrest is in line with the caution of the alarm it raised on 3rd of December warning of a plot to destabilize the country.

“It may be recalled that the Service had on 3rd December 2019 raised alarm about a plot to destabilize the country. It is quite remarkable that the plot has already started playing out.

“To ensure this objective is further achieved, some persons and groups are scurrying to seize the opportunity of the misleading court incident and the wrong narrative against the DSS to organize an insurrection in the country.

“They have continued to falsely curry and mobilize international sentiments and attention, through clear misrepresentation of the facts, for their selfish ends.”

The department said that it only rearrested Sowore and not along with his co-defendant, Olawale Bakare,  adding: “only Sowore has been re-arrested as his co-defendant, Olawale Bakare, was not picked up even when Falana had promised to deliver him to the Service that is not presently interested in him.”

DSS said that it is treating Sowore’s case based on his resort to call for violence and not as an activist, journalist or politician.

“For emphasis, it should be noted that Sowore is facing trial not as an activist, journalist or a politician, but for his resort to call for violence, forceful takeover of government and suspected transnational illegal activities. It is most unfortunate that Sowore, shortly after being released from custody, based on court order, resorted to acts inimical to security.”

Kogi: Wada Challenges Yahaya Bello’s Electoral Victory At Tribunal

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the November 16 Kogi State governorship election, Musa Wada, has formally filed a petition at the state governorship election petitions tribunal to challenge the victory of Governor Yahaya Bello.

Wada filed the petition today, December 7 at the Registry of the tribunal in the nation’s Federal Capital Territory, Wuse 2, accompanied by his lawyer, Jubril Okutekpa (SAN).

Those who were listed as respondents in the case are the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Governor Yahaya Bello and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The INEC had on November 18, declared Bello as the winner of the Kogi governorship election.

The state Returning Officer, Ibrahim Garba, declared that Yahaya Bello polled the highest number of votes in the election with 406,222 to defeat Wada, who scored 189,704.

The lawyer, Okutekpa told journalists that his client is asking the tribunal to declare him the winner of the November 16 governorship election in Kogi State.

Presidency Describes Re-Arrest Of Sowore In Courtroom As Stage-Managed Drama

The Nigerian Presidency has described the invasion of the Federal High Court in Abuja by men of the Department of State Services (DSS) as a stage-managed ploy to attract national and international attention and sympathy towards the revolution monger and publisher of SaharaReporters, Omoyele Sowore.

This is even as the DSS denied that its operatives re-arrested Sowore in the courtroom after battling with his supporters.

In her Twitter account today, December 7, Personal Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie, stressed that DSS operatives did not invade the courtroom to re-arrest Sowore as was shown in video clips that went viral yesterday, December 6.

Onochie said that eyewitnesses had testified that the DSS did not enter the court room to arrest him, rather Sowore’s supporters dragged him in with the DSS official.

“Who Drama help? Every lie will expire, court room drama explained. So it was a stage managed drama in the court yesterday; Sowore pinned down by his supporters in a courtroom in order to give DSS a bad name.

“There was no gun. No batton. No pinning down. Just plain drama, planned and staged by his boys and girls. Kudos, but every lie has an expiration date.

“Many EYEWITNESSES have said DSS was OUTSIDE the courtroom, not inside the courtroom. Here’s one more eyewitness account as reported by Adeniyi Adegbomire SAN.

“A friend of mine, Wale Fapohunda, who was in court today when Sowore’s re-arrest was purportedly effected inside the courtroom has this to say about the incident:

“Okay, so I was in court today and here is what happened. The court had adjourned his matter till 11th Feb next year. The court called the next matter and proceeding had commenced in respect of the next matter. Sowore stepped OUT OF THE COURT ROOM and suddenly we heard noises coming from the corridor “leave me alone” “they want to kill me” “they want to kill Sowore.

“Suddenly Sowore’s people started dragging him with the DSS and they (Sowores team) dragged him into the court room. The judge seeing this, rose and went to her chambers.

“The DSS didn’t enter the court room to arrest him rather his supporters dragged him in with the DSS official. Nobody chased the judge out, she rose and went to her chambers on seeing squabbles. The DSS official left the court room and waited for him outside the court. Thank you all. Behold my eye witness account.

“Blackmailing government enforcement agencies was how our nation went into decay. It wont work this time. NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW. It appears everyone in that drama was part of the drama club. They harassed a Court officer who wanted them out as they were disrupting another court case. A Lawyer who looked bemused with the whole drama was lost for words.

“Drama has not helped Dino Melaye. It has not helped Olisa Metuh. Drama has not helped Orji Uzo Kalu.

“Drama will not help Sowore because Once you dramatise a lie to the members of the public to attract sympathy, you lose all of that sympathy when they find out you have misled them.

“I’m also of the opinion that the police look into these videos, (I have watched four) and charge those who deliberately misled the general public on this issue.”

Also, the spokesman for DSS, Peter Afunanya in a statement, said: “a critical look at the videos in circulation would convince any objective viewer that there was no DSS personnel during the entire period the Sowore crowd acted out its orchestrated drama,” DSS spokesman said in a statement.

“Its (DSS) personnel were never, at any time, involved in the incident.”

In a letter to the ruler of the UAE, President Buhari said: “I received with shock the news of the death of your brother His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President’s Representative and your brother who died some days ago.
“On behalf of myself, the Government and the entire people of Nigeria, I extend our profound condolences to your Highness, the Nahyan family, the Government and the entire good people of UAE.

How I defended Myself Against IPOB Attack In Spain, Amaechi Clarifies

Nigeria’s Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has clarified how he defended himself with the help of police against the attack of members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Madrid, Spain, dismissing claims that he was physically assaulted.

In a statement today, December 7, reacting to the spokesman of IPOB, Emma Powerful, that its members beat him, the minister said that it is not true that members of the proscribed group “beat” (physically assaulted) him.

“As they charged towards and at the minister during the attack, it was apparent that their plan was to “beat” (quoting Emma Powerful) him, hurt him, cause bodily harm or even do worse! But their violent evil plot failed woefully due to the dexterity of Amaechi to resist them, protect and defend himself, and the prompt intervention of the Spanish police who repelled the motley crowd of misguided attackers. Even the video circulated online by the attackers confirmed this much.

“Everyone could clearly hear one of them shouting, “we didn’t get him…” expressing his frustrations of their inability to get and “beat” the Minister.

“The Spanish police in Madrid for their timely intervention to protect Amaechi and their investigation of the attack and attempt on the life of the honourable minister in Spanish territory.

“The honourable minister of Transportation is immensely grateful to all for the out-pour of love, support and prayers. He acknowledges God’s hand in the foiling of the attack and reassures all and sundry that he’s well, unhurt and okay; and will continue to dedicate himself in service to God, Nigeria and humanity.”

Reinhard Bonnke, Christian Evangelist Who Shook Kano In 1991 Is Dead

German Christian Evangelist whose visit to Kano led to violent riot resulting in several deaths in October 1991, Reinhard Bonnke is dead. He was born on April 19,1940.
His death was announced today, December 7, by his wife, Anne, via his verified Facebook page.
Anni wrote: “Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ. It is with sorrow that the Bonnke Family would like to announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke.
“He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on December 7, 2019. For the past 60 years, he has preached the glorious Gospel of Jesus throughout the entire world. We want to thank you on behalf of him and our family, for your kind love and unwavering support, which enabled him to preach the matchless message of salvation to countless people. He preached Jesus.”
Riot broke out in Kano sometime in October 1991 few days before the arrival of Reinhard Bonnke with a team of Christian evangelists from America and other countries, leading to the death of several people, though the government of Military President Ibrahim Babangida put the death at eight.
Muslims in Kano took to the streets, expressing anger the attitude of the police who a few weeks earlier, denied a permit for a South African Imam to go to Kano, an Islamic stronghold in the Muslim-dominated north of this West African nation. The same police granted permission for the Reinhard crusading evangelism.

Falana Describes The Manner Sowore Was Re-Arrested In Court As Extremely embarrassing

Femi Falana

A Lagos lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN) has described the manner in which the publisher of SaharaReporters, Omoyele Sowore was re-arrested in a court room today, December 6 after he was released yesterday, December 5 as extremely embarrassing.

Falana, who reacted to the incident said: “as soon as the court adjourned the matter to February next year, the SSS (State Security Service) operatives pounced on the court, disrupted proceeding and then attempted to arrest our clients even in the web of the court, that was extremely embarrassing because it has never happened in Nigeria where you enter a court to arrest anybody, even an alleged coup plotter.”
Sowore and Bakare who were released at about 7:15 pm yesterday, December 5 are facing seven counts bordering on conspiracy to commit treasonable felony, money laundering and cybercrimes, amongst others.
They were arrested on August 3, days before a planned #RevolutionNow protest against what they called “bad governance” in the country.
Falana who spoke to Channels Television today  stressed that the DSS (Department of State Service) had said they were inviting the duo for questioning at their office to answer a few questions on fresh charges, but are yet to disclose what they are.
“The atmosphere was very rowdy, but I insisted that the arrest could not be carried out within the precinct of the court. He was going to be arrested outside the premises but there was a crowd that resisted the arrest, but I appealed to everybody and asked Sowore to jump into my car and so we drove to the office of the SSS because they said he will just answer a few questions, but now he is being detained.
“We are going to take steps under the law by asking for his release again since they are claiming this is a fresh arrest.
“Nobody has disclosed yet what his charges are; he couldn’t have committed any other offence because he has been detained for the past four months unless the SSS wants to tell the whole world that he committed this fresh offence while in their custody.”

I Have Personal Interest In Who Lead APC At All Levels – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has made it clear that he has personal interest in who lead the All Progressives Congress (APC) at all levels.
Addressing chairmen of the party who visited him today, December 6 at the presidential Villa, Abuja, the President advised that only members with solid base from the grassroots to national level should be allowed to represent the party in elective positions.
“I want you to revisit the constitution of the party sooner than later. Your election will soon hold and I am going to take personal interest to make sure that the bottom-to-top is maintained and people are elected by their immediate and subsequent constituencies.”
He stress the importance selfless service by leaders with all their might and see their ‘‘chairmanship’’ as part of national service.
President Buhari also stressed the importance of ‘‘bottom-to-top approach’’ which he said would ensure that only popular party men and women represent the party’s interest at the national level.
‘‘In my own opinion, this is necessary so that Nigerians will know and understand that whoever sits in your states has the support of your respective constituencies from the state, to the local government, wards and polling units.”
In his remarks, the National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole said that  the National Working Committee (NWC) had decided to extend financial support on a monthly basis to all states chairmen to enable them run their respective offices effectively.
‘‘Whatever support we (NWC) are giving them is a small token in relation to the huge responsibilities entrusted to them.’’
Oshiomhole thanked the President on his recent directive on Board appointments, noting that party members were looking forward to filling some existing vacancies in government and contribute their quota to the vision of the Next Level Government.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the 36 State Party Chairmen of APC, Hon. Ali Bukar congratulated the President on his victory in the February 23 presidential election which was also reaffirmed by the Supreme Court.
Bukar said the success of the Buhari administration in the economy, security and governance sectors must be sustained so that Nigerians will enjoy the dividends of democracy.

Nigeria Appeals Against London Court Judgment On Process, Industrial Dev In Uk

The Federal Government of Nigeria has filed a new and substantive appeal in the English Court in London, the UK, against the Process and Industrial Development Limited, popularly called P & ID.
The filing of the appeal today, December 6, is considered to be a major step in the bid to overturn the injustice of the $9.6 billion award, challenged both the arbitrary award and its enforcement.
Nigeria lodged a fresh appeal against the subsequent High Court judgment.
The lawyers for Nigeria argued that, based on new evidence that has come to light in recent investigations, the original contract was a sham commercial deal and designed to fail from the onset.
They attributed the discovery to President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption efforts spearheaded by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).
The lawyers further argued that the Gas Supply and Processing Agreement (GSPA), was procured based on fraud and corruption, even as the subsequent arbItrarary process was riddled with irregularities and deliberately concealed from the rest of the government.
Nigerian government had recently expanded its legal team to include leading London Firm: Mishcan de Reya. The team is being led by Shaista Akhar and partner as well as Mark Howa rd QC of Brick Court Chambers.
The expansion, according to the sources, is to enable the Federal Governments of Nigeria to launch in full, it’s investigations and challenges.
