Kogi Guber Poll: Authorities Confirm Fake Police Men Responsible For Ballot Box Snatching

Acting IGP, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu

Authorities have confirmed that armed men who aided the snatching of ballot boxes in Lokoja, capital of Kogi State and its environs during the governorship election today, November 16 were “fake policemen.”

The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Busari and the spokesperson of the police headquarters, Frank Mba, did the confirmation.
Hakeem confirmed that there were incidences of ballot box Snatching but said that it was perpetrated by “fake policemen because no genuine policeman would be involved in snatching a ballot box.”
He said that the police were investigating the incidents and would get to the root of the matter.
And in an interview, Frank Mba said that the police are investigating the reports but believed that fake policemen were involved.
“The fact that people were the uniform of the police does not mean they are police officers.”

Buhari Describes As Unfortunate Ethnic, Political Interpretation Given To Sack Of Political Appointees In Villa

President Muhammadu Buhari has described as unfortunate ethnic and political interpretation given to the ongoing reorganization at the presidency, aimed at enhancing service delivery to Nigerians.

Fielding questions from news men at the Presidential Wing of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on his arrival from London on Friday night, President Buhari said it is unfortunate that the recent disengagement of some political appointees from the presidency had been given ‘‘ethnic and political’’ interpretations.

‘‘They said 35 people were sacked in the Vice President’s office. We just created some ministries and we reorganized and people are giving it ethnic and political dimensions. It is unfortunate,’’ he said.

Responding to a question on what next for his administration after a well deserved rest in London, the President said:

‘‘We are going to work harder and be accountable. We have tried to make Nigerians understand why we do certain things. Accountability from bottom to top is absolutely necessary.

‘‘Whoever is responsible for government property, [should know] it is public property, it is not personal and he has to manage it according to the law.

‘‘That’s what I expect and I think that we have been around long enough to impress on people that we mean what we say.”

NECO dismisses 70 Staff Over Certificate Forgery

The National Examinations Council (NECO), has dismissed no fewer than 70 staff for certificate forgery.

The dismissal of the affected staff was approved at NECO’s 17th extra-ordinary meeting of the Governing Board, which vetted a report by a verification Committee set up by the management.

A statement signed by the Head of Information and Public Relations Division, Azeez Sani in Minna on Friday, said majority of the staff affected belonged to the junior cadre while a few senior staff were affected.

The statement read in part: “The certificate Verification Committee carried out its assignment diligently by inviting all staff with questionable credentials to appear before it, during which some staff actually attested that their certificates were fake.

“The Committee also contacted the Schools and Institutions the affected staff claimed to have attended and the Schools and Institutions denied having certificated them.”

Sani noted that the dismissal of the staff members was the first phase in the series of the on-going staff certificate verification exercise in the Council.

Budget Minister Not Happy With Edo Gov For Politicising Oshiomhole’s Flood Control In Benin

The Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Ikanade Agba has expressed disappointment with Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki of trying to politicise project which his predecessor, Adams Oshiomhole undertook to control flood in Benin city, the State capital.
The Minister, who paid a royal homage on of the Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, in his palace in Benin city, pleaded with Oba to prevail on the State Government to give attention to the project, known  Storm Water Master Plan. It was started by the administration of Oshiomole to address the menace of perennial flooding in Benin City.
Clement Agba explained the idea behind the Storm Water Master Plan and the various processes that led to the award of the contract for the masterplan.
He said that the Storm Water Master Plan, which was aimed at combating the perennial flooding in Benin City, was the most significant and ambitious attempt yet.
According to him, since after the attempt by the administration of the late General Samuel Osaigbovo Ogbemudia to solve the problem, no other administration before Oshiomhole’s administration had done anything as significant as the Storm Water masterplan.
He advised that “nobody should play politics with the flooding problems of the city. The final solution to the flooding in many parts of the city requires up to 30 years of continuous implementation of the Benin Storm Water Master Plan as advised by experts.
On the N30 Billion Storm Water Project, the Minister said: “this represent money expended on the Uwelu East and West Water Storm project in the masterplan. The scope of Work including the construction of 9 roads one of which is a 7 Kilometer dual carriageway, all 9 roads with Street lights, walkways, sude drains and 7.5 Kilometers of diubke cell 3 meters by 3 meters underground primary drain and 7.9 kilometers of open trapeziadal drains.
“As at 2009, the Primary drains within the Storm Water Masterplan was estimated to cost about N300B. However the Oshiomhole government decided to prioritise and handle the projects one after the other in a holistic manner that will include the contruction of roads, secondary drains, walkways and streetlights.
“While the N30 Billion Uwelu East and West Storm Water project was 70% complete at the time we left office, 5 other Storm Water Projects within it had been 100% completed.  These are the popular 5 Junction, Upper Lawani street, Constain road, Airport Road, Second East Circular and the New Lagos road catchment area.
“It took the courage of a visionary leader like Comrade Oshiomole to undertake the projects by refusing to play to the gallery. Most of the executed projects were not for public relations, which, unfortunately  most public office holders either covet or indulge in.
“Your Royal Majesty, the present government in Edo State should be encouraged to continue the implementation of the master plan in the interest of the people.”
The minister also commended the Benin Monarch for leading the Edo Traditional Council’s delegation to President Muhammadu Buhari to request for two ministerial slots for Edo State.
He said that he was happy to be one of the proud beneficiaries of the royal intervention with his appointment as a member of the Federal Cabinet.
The minister solicited for prayers for the President who, he stated, had succeeded in returning the country’s budget cycle to a January to December model.
According to him, the January- December budget cycle would be the first since the return to democratic rule in 1999.
The Benin Monarch congratulated Prince Agba on his well-deserved appointment and requested him to convey the prayers of his ancestors for President Muhammadu Buhari’s wellbeing and success in office to him (President).
Among the gifts presented to the Oba by the minister was a framed picture of the Storm Water Master Plan, which he said was for the purpose of institutional memory.

The Political Wild Fire Called Yahaya Bello, By Adam Ahmed Abere

Gov. Yahaya Bello

The locational dateline was Abuja on April 2018 EPA (Ebira People’s Association) had organized retreat for the CBOs & NGOs of the Kogi Central District. I flew the cat on the need for the people of the Central to support Governor Yahaya Bello (GYB) bid of 2019. It was then a hard knot. Very few agreed with me. It inspired many CBOs whose leaders later called me and said I made sense in my call. Then I flew the second kite during the official opening of the JNI House  in Lokoja. The SGOH was His Eminence Sultan Saad Abubakar III. That was the same day Gov Yahaya Bello marked his third anniversary on the delicate throne of Kogi State governance. I digressed into GYB’s exploits on security architecture after comparing it with the chaotic situations that existed during Govs Audu, Ibrahim & Wada. My pronouncement was that GYB has done so much in security administration that he needs to be voted to power come 16th Nov 2019. My call was predicated on the rubrics that whatever his sins in other realms, his suave security interventions, designs and practices between 2015 and 2019 commended themselves to GYB’s continuity. HRM Ado Ibrahim Atta III, the Ohinoyi of Ebira and His Eminence privately showed how enthused they were in my linking the Sokoto Caliphate’s Security and the current security dynamics on the one hand and the comparison of the past with the present interm of securing men and materials.

Today, some countable hours to election, GYB is now a POLITICAL WILDFIRE that has colossally engulfed every nook and cranny of the Kogi State’s political landscape and shopping Centre. Never in the history of the state has acceptability been so pronounced and so physically demonstrated like the GYB’s.
Dissecting the activities is a herculean challenge. But suffice is a brief diagnosis that does not take care of it’s causative agents but just it’s fangs and expectation. The mammoth display commenced ironically from Kogi East via the youths particularly Emerging Leader Forum. This group organized regular meetings, awareness campaign and absorbed disparate and diverse smaller components into its fold. Chief Edward and Prof Ocheni need commendation.  But the firing lines were covered by some scholars from my University, KSU but operating outside. At a point it was feared whether my tentacles and routinely visitors in Anyigba lodge was for GYB jaw- jaw or not. The boost was boosted by the Eastern flank traditional rulers who never minced the position in their unanimous endorsement of GYB’s continuity. The GYB’s choruses got added feathers by the disorganization of the otherwise opposing opposition party, the PDP. Till moment, PDP is confused philosophically, legally and physically. The various campaigns in Kogi East were thought to be epics until the mother of all came on Monday 11th Nov 2019 at Agassa junction in Okene. OKENE is the politico- Adminstrative Hqtr of the Kogi Central where Gov Yahaya Bello hailed from.
Interestingly the mock stage was displayed at Hon Abubakar Ohere’s residence. So symbolic was this scene that watchers felt that that was the venue for the District showcase. Though the senatorial campaign was billed to officially commenced by 1400hrs by 0900hrs, the venue began to wear an epicenter outlook. It was simply a Political Armageddon with swam of homo sapiens. As onlooker, I was thrilled at the colors, talents, artistic chicaneries that were displayed just to show the world that GYB was wholly accepted in his homeland. Commendations should go to the brains behind the design. All people of Kogi Central spoke one word, no opposition in the endorsement of GYB by his people. The people had for long desired to administer the state.
Part of the feature for the GYB’s continuity campaign was the Gov style of endorsement. First each district and division in the state as symbolized by the senatorial traditional rulers. Each district took turn to show loyalty as Attah Igala led them to Aso Rock where the NIgerian Head of State resides. In Kogi Central, the design was finer. Each district, Okene, Okengwe, Agassa, Ihima, Gaminana, Kuroko and Upogoro for example took turn to pay a solidarity visit. Then came the visit of the various clans. Though it has been a feature of GYB governance style, that of the campaign period was taken to the apex. Oziogu, Omavi, Esusu, Omoye, Ehimozoko etc either organized itself for GYB’s second term or paid visit to Govt House on solidarity visit. Then each of these, had its women, youth and elders wing put on solidarity visit. We need to commend Hon Ohere for taking the heat off GYB. He received almost all the visitors to the Govt House on behalf of GYB and to my judgement, Ohere performed exceptionally excellent. Been opened to all is a tight task. When they’re crowd, it’s supper stressful. The Strategy of deliberate empowerment of Hon Engr Ohere and Chief Pharm Asuku shouldn’t be lost on any person. It’s for another day
Furthermore, citizens of Kogi State in various States of federation, organized themselves into GYB Support Groups. Kaduna for GYB; Lagos for GYB; Kano for GYB, Abuja for GYB etc were latent with WhatsApp platform to adorn. From Wednesday 13th Nov 2019, each of these Support Groups began to transport themselves into Kogi State to vote for their preferred candidate, GYB.
In documenting the 2019 election in Kogi State, the role of 4+4 can not be undervalued. Everywhere, the sign is 4+4 and it’s justifiably and generously displayed. Then the various songs that rendered the political landscape of the state nay Kogi Central. I remember Maj Gen Chukwuemeka Onwuameagwu in far away USA querying my display of 4+4 with EYC activists last Sunday. He saw it on fb. In addition, there were prayers especially from Islamic purview individually and jointly. Kano State under Ohinoyi Anebira HRH Alh Aliyu ABDULMALIK is likely the first to herald this all time important seeking of the Almighty Subhana’s intervention. In Kaduna, Gusau, Sokoto, Lagos, Ilorin and Ibadan, the news of duau/ supplication for peaceful election and for the success of GYB rendered the air and communication wave lengths. This can also observed in respect of bill boards, posters, leaflets and even book (Comrade Kekere’s book in my mind). The concerned professors at the aegis of Ebira Dialogue Group brought their giant Bill Board-  all in constructive ènèjiji to project GYB. Never in the history of political contestation in the State has the people witnessed such display of artistic and cultural creativity, scientific solidarity and communal oneness. Ditto; entertainment, comedy and cultural resuscitation. In the 2019 campaign for GYB simply put, the Kogites indubitably but productively undo themselves. The analyses of the causes, organization and effects of this episode is for another time.
As we move to election proper by tomorrow Saturday 16th Nov, what are the expectations (this is different from looking into the seed of time/pontification)? It is expected that all will come out to vote massively for APC’s GYB. It’s expected that judging from the contest for endorsement, Kogi Central will return the GYB votes 100%. It is also expected that election will be generally peaceful. Saturday 16th Nov 2019 GYB is all the way.

Atiku’s Presidential Running Mate, Peter Obi, Advocates Revolution In Nigeria

Peter Obi

Vice Presidential Candidate to Atiku Abubakar, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 23, 2019 elections, Mr. Peter Obi, has advocated the option of revolution as the only way to save Nigeria and launch her into the league of countries towing the paths of development.

Peter Obi, who spoke on November 13 at Baze University, Abuja, explained that the nature of the revolution he is advocating is not the one with guns and cudgels, but the type that sees digital camera displacing manual ones; electric cars threatening to displace fuel-driven cars; knowledge economy displacing baggage economy; industries displacing manual production, among others.

Peter Obi who was once  governor of Anambra State spoke on the theme: “The Role of Young Nigerians in the Development of Sub-Saharan Africa.”

The PDP Vice Presidential candidate said that young Nigerians must be made to understand that nations that are doing well today went through revolution and that, that is what Nigeria needs to drive development within sub-Saharan Africa.

He advised the youth to remain committed to positive ideals. He reminded them that one of the problems of Nigeria is the celebration of impunity, whereby Nigerians clap and dance with those destroying the country because of their ability to part with stolen money.

Peter Obi also advised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the police, as well as other security agencies and organisations that are directly or remotely involved in the conduct of election to see the elections holding tomorrow (Saturday) in Kogi and Bayelsa states as opportunities to redeem the bartered image of Nigeria as a country incapable of conducting free and fair elections.

The former governor, who spoke at a separate event: the 7th anniversary lecture of News Express at Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, recalled the gains Nigeria recorded from the conduct of elections during the immediate past Goodluck Jonathan Administration.

Such elections, he claimed, restored the hope of Nigerians on elections as a means of freely expressing their franchise as against what he called the “return to kangaroo elections marred by violence and all that was vile” as recorded during the last election.

He insisted that free and fair conduct of Saturday’s elections would restore hope to the country, adding: “Besides, it would also encourage well-meaning Nigerians to join in the future elections.”

We’re Detaining Dasuki, El-Zakazaki, Sowore By Their Preference, DSS Opens Up

The Department of State Security (DSS), Nigeria’s secret police has made it clear that it has been detaining retired Colonel Sambo Dasuki, Ibrahim El-Zakazaki and Omoyele Sowore by their requests
“There has been outcry about alleged illegal detention of some notable persons undergoing trials at the Courts and disobedience to Court Orders by the Service. To put the records straight, the Service wishes to advert public attention to the circumstances that warranted the custody of Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd.) and Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky in its facility.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the duo had appealed to the Courts to be left in the custody of the Service instead of being taken to the Correctional Centres. Well meaning Nigerians are equally witnesses to the case of Omoleye Sowore, who, on a similar order of the Court, was to be remanded at the Kuje or Suleja Centre, but preferred to be kept at the DSS.
“Everyone, also, saw what eventually played out with El-Zakzaky, when he opted to be returned to the custody of the Service even as the Court had granted him leave to seek medical care in India. These were choices these personalities made on their own volition.
“Since their stay, the Service has continued to extend the best courtesies to them.
“They are allowed access to people and use of other facilities like telephones, gymnasium, TV, newspapers and medical facilities.

“Among others, their families and trusted persons bring them food of their choices on daily basis.  There could not have been better treatments than these.”

A statement today,  November 15 by the DSS spokesman, Dr. Peter Afunanya  which contained this position said that the perception that the Service held these persons in defiance to Court Orders is wrong.”
The statement stressed: “by the above explanations, it is obvious that they rather chose be looked after by the DSS. The reason for such choice is not farfetched. It is simply because the Service’s holding facilities are good and within acceptable international standards.
“It is not in the character of the DSS to join issues with persons or groups. Yet, silence should not be golden at a time like this. For its compliance to democratic norms, the Service owes the Nigerian public a duty to explain some of its activities.  This is more so that these are oftentimes grossly misunderstood or misrepresented.
“Once again, the Service restates its commitment to a strong partnership with the media and other stakeholders including opinion leaders. It is not averse to criticisms and therefore welcomes constructive engagement from all and sundry.

“It will continue to conduct its operations within the bounds of the law and importantly be guided by that time tested axiom of  Usman Dan Fodio that conscience is an open wound and only the truth can heal it.”

We’re Determined To Bring Sanity To Abuja Roads To Save Lives – Minister

FCT MInister, Muhammad Musa Bello

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, has vowed to use the new road traffic policy to bring sanity to Abuja roads with a view to saving lives.

The minister,  who spoke today,  November 15 at the public presentation of the policy, known as Functional and Efficient transport system, stressed that there is need for an attitudinal change by road users to safeguard the sanctity of lives.

He said that the people should know that breaking traffic laws is unacceptable, adding that the collaborative measures taken by the FCT Administration and the various security agencies in the FCT were geared towards ensuring that all traffic regulations are followed to save lives and ensure a safer city.

“Journeys that ought to take a short time, because of the available facilities, take much longer, simply because many road users decide not to follow basic rules of traffic use within the city. It is manifested through parking on areas that are meant for pedestrian walkways, ignoring pedestrian bridges, ignoring zebra crossings, driving against traffic, overloading, parking in undesignated car parks. People have to learn to respect zebra crossing. Motorists must respect pedestrians and school children at zebra crossings.”

The minister reminded the people that while there is no ban on commercial tricycles and commercial motorcycles in the Federal Capital City, the the law does not permit them on expressways or driving against traffic.

“What we are saying is that the laws are very clear. There are designated areas allowed for motorcycles. There are designated areas allowed for tricycles and what we are trying to do is to emphasize that.

“Our objective is to save lives; to make the human life valuable the way it’s supposed to be. And how can we do that? We have to make sure that all traffic regulations are adhered to and the advantage we have is that all these is covered by law and we are going to use the provisions of the Nigerian constitution, the laws of the highway code, the FCT Transport Regulations, the National Road Traffic Regulations and other traffic laws and regulations and we are going to back that with a robust support from the judiciary so that all those that violate traffic regulations and protocols are made to pay for it because that is the only way we can guarantee the safety of lives of our people.”

He said that as part of plans to cushion the effect of the  measures to bring sanity to FCT roads, the number of high capacity buses have been increased to cover the routes illegally plied by the commercial tricycles while the recently commissioned Abuja Light Rail would serve as alternative mode transport for residents.

The Minister assured that additional coaches will be made available for the Abuja light rail before the middle of next year while ten additional metro stations on the Abuja Airport line will be opened. This he said will ease the traffic on the roads.

“On our part as an Administration, we are doing our very best to provide additional high capacity buses. We are also making much easier the process of registration of companies or persons that want to provide taxi services, as long as the vehicle meets the minimum standard that is required by law. I would also want to mention that as you know, the Abuja light rail is already operational. By the middle of next year, a substantial number of coaches that are under construction now would have arrived and about 10 additional stations on the metro stations to Abuja airport line would have been opened and then we would have train probably moving almost in intervals of 30 minutes.”

Muhammad Bello also called on investors in the transport sector to partner with the FCTA to help cushion the effects of enforcement of the traffic rules and regulations, adding that requirements for the registration of taxis/cabs have been made easy to encourage more participants.

Also speaking at the event, the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi said that 20 patrol vans and 350 personnel have been deployed to the FCTA to effect the implementation of the new policy.

He pledged the commitment of the FRSC to work very closely with the FCTA for the success of the Safe Functional and Efficient traffic management policy.

He commended the Minister for the bold step he has taken to ensure safety on FCT roads and safeguard lives and property.

Presidency Lectures PDP On Roles To Play Henceforth After Losing At Supreme Court

Shehu Garba

The Presidency has come up with idea of the best roles the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should be playing henceforth after the Supreme Court ruling on its petition against the election of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Now it is time for the PDP to take up the service mandated by this election.
“The legislative agenda of the ninth assembly is ambitious in both size and scope. It is critical the opposition is there to scrutinise bills and policies, rather than preoccupy themselves with unsustainable court cases.”
In a statement today, November 15 reacting to the ruling of the Supreme Court which affirmed the earlier judgment of the Court of Appeal, the presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu said: “we appreciate the PDP and their candidate for taking these claims to courts rather than expressing them in other ways, but now Nigeria needs a robust and rigorous opposition. The nation needs to move on.”
The presidency commended the courts for affirming this electoral victory and courage of the bench to arrive at the right conclusion “given manifest and subtle pressures to do otherwise-the reality is that courts were convinced by arguments from the lawyers representing the APC and its candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari that results reflected the true wishes of a majority of our citizens.
“President Buhari won four million more votes than his closest rival, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in the February poll.”
The statement stressed that no serious electoral observers have challenged this result, adding that now that the Supreme Court has explained why the PDP appeal is unsubstantiated, “we hope this finally puts the matter behind us. We should now grasp this moment to move forward – together.”
