One of the founders of the famous Newswatch magazine, Ray Ekpu, clocked 75 years yesterday, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu commending him for what he called “purposeful life.”
In a birthday message through his Special Adviser on media and publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, the President described Ray Ekpu as a veteran journalist and esteemed columnist.
He acknowledged that Ekpu’s life has been synonymous with the pursuit of freedom, democracy and the establishment of good governance in Nigeria.
“I join friends, family, and admirers of the veteran journalist and respected columnist, Mr. Ray Ekpu, in celebrating his purposeful life as he reaches the milestone of 75 years.
“With a career spanning over 50 years in the Nigerian media landscape, Mr. Ekpu has consistently displayed unwavering commitment to progressive ideals.” President Tinubu highlighted Ekpu’s impactful contributions, saying: “through his pen, he has served society with candid, analytical and captivating commentary, distinguished by his eloquent prose.
“On the occasion of his 75th birthday, I convey my heartfelt congratulations to this journalism stalwart on behalf of the Government and people of Nigeria.”
