The highest court in the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Supreme Court has ruled finally that the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, is guilty of treason.
The court ruling overturned the Appeal Court judgment that found him not guilty of treasonable charges.
Nnamdi Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), since he was re-arrested in 2021.
The Federal Government had prayed the court to set aside an earlier judgement by the Court of Appeal, which quashed the treasonable felony charge against Kanu and ordered his release on the grounds that he was unlawfully brought back to the country after he jumped bail.
