Chief Magistrate Court in Zaria has sentenced one Yahaya Idris to six month imprisonment having found him guilty of stealing four meters incomer cable valued at N200, 000 and selling same at the rate of N20, 000.
The Chief Magistrate, Umaru Bature, however allowed the convict the joy of an option of N5, 000 fine.
The convict was also sentenced to one year imprisonment without an option of fine having been found guilty of committing theft. He was also charged N200, 000 as compensation for the cable he stole, with an option of one and half year imprisonment to run consecutively.
The Chief Magistrate ruled that the prosecutor, Inspector Sarki Abdurrahman has proved the case of trespassing into Kaduna electric Transformer and stealing the items against the convict.
The Head of the Corporate Communication of the electricity company, Abdulazeez Abdullahi commended the judiciary for speedily adjudicating in case.
He hoped that the sentence would serve as deterrent to would be vandals. [myad]
