Federal Govt Backtracks, Withdraws Order For Reopening Of Universities

The Federal Government has made a U-turn on its directive to vice chancellors to reopen universities, which had been shut for over seven months as a result of the strike of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
An earlier circular, dated September 23, 2022, had directed vice chancellors to reopen universities.
The new circular advised vice Chancellors to await further directives from the National Universities Commission (NUC).
The National Industrial Court had last Wednesday, ordered lecturers to resume, an order which ASUU has now appealed.
