The immediate past Chief of Army Staff, retired Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai and other past Service Chiefs have been nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari for ambassadorial positions.
President Buhari nominated the former Service Chiefs as non-career ambassadors in a letter to the Senate.
A statement today, February 4 by the spokesman of the President, Femi Adesina, said that the Senate is to screen and confirm.
In the letter, which the Senate President, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, President Buhari said: “In accordance with section 171 (1), (2) (c) & sub-section (4) of 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, I have the honour to forward for confirmation by the Senate, the under-listed five names of nominees as Non-Career ambassador designate.”
The nominees are: former Chief of Defence Staff, retired General Abayomi G. Olonisakin; former Chief of Army staff, retired Lieutenant General Tukur Y. Buratai; former Chief of Naval Staff, retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas; former Chief of the Air Staff, retired Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar and retired Air Vice Marshal Mohammed S. Usman.
The President called on the Senate to give expeditious consideration to the nominations.
