The Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) has alleged the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) cannot account for the sum N7.4 billion.
The funds is said to have been allocated for grassroots development projects.
The Executive Secretary of the NDDC, Waziri Adio, who spoke at a retreat in Port Harcourt, said that the new board and management will carry out an independent project implementation audit, corruption risk assessment.
He said that such exercise would enable the Commission to develop a framework to strengthen its operations.
Waziri, who was represented by the director of communications, Orji Ogbonnaya Orji, said that NDDC and NEITI were set up with similar mandates targeted at addressing the syndrome of resource curse, but that in the public’s eye, NDDC is an agency with huge revenue resources and little impact on the lives of the people of the Niger Delta.
