North East Development Commission Coming, Bill Ready For Public Hearing In NASS– Lawmaker

NortheastA Bill for the establishment of a North East Development Commission (NEDC) to address the devastation of the region by Boko Haram, is said to have been ready for public hearing.
A member representing Yola North, Yola South and Girei Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Lawan Garba, said in an interview with Newsmen in Yola that the bill has already passed first and second reading in the National Assembly.
“So far the bill for the establishment of North East Development Commission has passed first and second reading. It’s now going into public reading for favourable consideration.”
The lawmaker expressed worry over the devastation caused by Boko Haram, adding that it would take the region many years to recover.
He called on the civil society groups and prominent people of the region and its well wishers to massively take advantage of the Bill by participating in the public hearing.
On women and youth empowerment programme, Garba said over 200 youths and women were trained and assisted in various skills acquisitions for self reliance.
“Under the programme, over 200 youth and women benefited in agriculture, welding, borehole repairs, computer training, among others.” [myad]
