As the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega finally quit today, President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Mrs. Amina Bala Zakari as acting chairman of the electoral body.
According to the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Barrister Danladi Kifasi, the appointment takes effect from today, June 30, 2015 until the appointment of a substantive Chairman.
The information was made known on behalf of the Head of Civil Service by the Director of Communications in his office.
Earlier today, Professor Jega handed over the leadership of the INEC to his successor, Ambassador Ahmed Wali.
The new acting chairman, Amina Zakari, was until his appointment today a National Electoral Commissioner in the Commission. She is a pharmacist by profession and hails from Jigawa State.
She completed her Secondary Education from the prestigious Queens College Yaba, Lagos. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science (B.sc) degree in Pharmacy with Second Class upper (Best Graduating Student) in 1980 from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. [myad]
