Honourable Yakubu Dogara of All Progressives Congress (APC) from Bauchi state has emerged the Speaker of the 8th House of Representatives, making nonesense of the APC position which picked Femi Gbajabiamela in its recent mock election.
Dogara roundly defeated Gbajabiamela in a keenly contested election that was held on the floor of the House of Representatives today.
Dogara got 182 votes to defeat Gbajabiamela who got 174 votes. The election which began at about 10.00am did not end until past 4.00pm.
The emergence of Senator Bukola Saraki earlier in the day as President of the Senate and Dogara as Speaker of the House of Reps went far off the APC’s calculations.
As the counting was going on in the Reps after a meticulous voting by members and it became obvious that Dogara was leading, the House went agog with members jubilating even as Gbajabiamela remained glued to his seat. [myad]
