Wind Of Impeachment Blows Off Ebony Assembly Speaker

Ebonyi governor

The wind of impeachment that is now defining the political game between the executives and the legislatures has now caught up with the speaker of Ebonyi state House of Assembly, Chukwuma Nwazunku. He was removed from office today in what observers described as in a commando style.

Reports from Ebonyi state indicated that 18 out of the 24 members of the Assembly voted to send the speaker out of leadership of the House, few minutes after the members lifted the suspension of the three members. The three members are Hon Frank Onwe, Hon Eni Uduma Chime and deputy speaker, Hon Blaise Orji.

Hon Frank Onwe moved the motion for the Speaker’s impeachment and was seconded by the minority leader, Hon Enyi C. Enyi.

Thereafter, Hon Eni Uduma Chima representing Afikpo South West, moved the motion for election of Hon Helen Nwaobasi, representing Abakaliki South state constituency as the new speaker. The motion was seconded by Hon Jerry Obasi. [myad]
