Rain Storm Sacks Edo Residents

Rain storm havoc

A 20 minutes rainstorm that fell in parts of Benin City, Edo State capital, yesterday has rendered many people homeless.Roofs of over 50 houses were blown off in many parts of the state capital, including Ekewan, Agbonma, Agho and Evbuotubu.

Some people escaped death when the rainstorm pulled down a gigantic billboard located along Ekewan road. The billboard destroyed part of the perimeter fence housing the Rosicrucian Order.

An eye witness, Henry Omoregie, whose workshop is behind the billboard said they were lucky that the billboard did not fall towards his workshop.

“When the rain started, we were hiding here. Some persons were in a big bus. Suddenly we saw the billboard shaking. I quickly took my car away. We were lucky it fell on the fence.”

Irene Ero, a worker at the Rosicrucian Order, said a strong wind accompanied the rain. [myad]
