The Kogi State Government is set to formally coronate a foremost educationist, Alhaji Usman Ibrahim Okidi as the new Ohindase of Okengwe-Ehi in the Central Senatorial District of the State.
This is even as the committee of friends have, in conjunction with the Okengwe ruling House, put up seven-day long activities, including a colloquem presentation on October 5 to celebrate the coronation. The activities which begin on October 3 would end on October 11.
Alhaji Usman Ibrahim Okidi was chosen for the reverend throne after due consultation with the traditional kingmakers of Okengwe after a careful process of consultation and spiritual divination. They unanimously affirmed his worthiness to ascend the revered stool.
He succeeded the late Ohindase, Stephen Bamidele Bello.
Born on 8th October, 1960, Alhaji Usman Ibrahim Okidi hails from the Omavi Clan of Okene in Kogi State. A retired educationist and seasoned administrator, he has served the state meritoriously from 1979 until his retirement in 2014 as Director Master (Grade 16, Step 7).
An alumnus of Ogori Magongo Teachers’ College, Federal College of Education, Okene and Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, he holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education (B.Ed) and other teaching and professional qualifications.
Throughout his distinguished career, the new Ohindase served in several capacities, including Secretary of the Conference of Primary School Head Teachers of Nigeria (COPSHON), State Treasurer of COPSHON Kogi State Wing, and Public Relations Officer of the Ebira Gentlemen’s Club.
Beyond public service, HRH Usman Ibrahim Okidi is deeply involved in community development, youth empowerment and cultural preservation. His humility, spirituality and commitment to social progress have earned him the admiration of both elders and youths across the Ebira nation.
Speaking shortly after receiving his staff of office, Alhaji Usman Ibrahim Okidi expressed profound gratitude to Almighty Allah, the Kogi State Government under the leadership of Governor Usman Ododo, the traditional council and the people of Okengwe-Ehi for their confidence in him.
“I dedicate this honour to the service of truth, unity and peace. I pledge to uphold the values of our forebears and ensure that the stool of Ohindase remains a symbol of integrity and justice.”
The new Ohindase, fondly described by many as a “teacher of teachers,” is widely regarded as a bridge between tradition and modernity — a leader whose wisdom continues to inspire hope among his people.
As the drums of celebration echo across Okengwe and beyond, the enthronement of His Royal Highness, Alhaji Usman Ibrahim Okidi, is being hailed as a renewal of ancestral heritage and a promise of continued peace and cultural continuity for the Ebira nation.
The title of Ohindase is one of the most respected positions within the Ebira traditional institution, symbolizing wisdom, integrity and service to humanity. The office plays a vital role in preserving cultural values, fostering peace and advising on governance and social harmony within the community.
