The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, has mocked the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over his alleged arrest and detention by the Department of State Services (DSS).
He said that if it was their (PDP) chairman that was rumoured to have been so invited and detained by the security agency, they would have cried to high heaven about democracy being under threat.
“If it was the PDP chairman that was invited by DSS, for instance over the dollar bazaar at their Port Harcourt primary, they would have said democracy is under threat and would have fired a letter to the UN as they often ridicule themselves.”
Oshimhole, who denied that he was arrested, detained and granted administrative bail by the DSS after nine hours of interrogation, said: “it was not an arrest or detention.”
He told a group of media editors in Lagos today, Saturday that he saw DSS once and had conversation with them.
“The conversation centered around APC primaries. The question now is whether or not it is the DSS job to interfere in a political party’s issues. And if there’s an allegation of corruption, it is the responsibility of EFCC and ICPC.”
Oshiomhole dismissed the rumour that DSS rescheduled another meeting with him even as he said that he was not released on administrative bail.
He said that it was him that invited the Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello and that he did not come to pick him up from the DSS office.
“I was the one who called Yahaya Bello and he came but I drove home in my own car.”
On the call by the PDP for his arrest, Oshiomhole said: “what would they have said if it was the PDP chairman that was invited by DSS, for instance over the dollar bazaar at their Port Harcourt primary?
“They would have said democracy is under threat and would have fired a letter to the UN as they often ridicule themselves.”
Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State has said that there is no thinking brain among members of opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) even as the PDP asked the governor to focus on the problem in his state and leave its vice presidential candidate, Peter Obi, whom he described as tribal bigot, alone.
Governor el-Rufai on his Twitter page said: “No single thinking brain was left in PDP.”
“I never respond to cluelessness, compounded by bad English. There isn’t a single thinking brain left in PDP….sad, only Wendell Simlins and their sort……sigh!
“We will meet first on February 16, 2019 – my birthday by the way then March 2 in sha Allah – Goodbye.”
This was even as the PDP cautioned the Governor to mind his unguarded comment, saying that Peter Obi who he said to be a tribal bigot is well known for his nationalist disposition and cannot in anyway be associated with tribal bigotry.
The PDP advised Governor el-Rufai to face the myriad of problems he has caused in Kaduna state for which the people have resolved to vote him out and stop his attempt to further foul the nation’s political space by making comments capable of stoking religious and ethnic division in our country.
“Governor el-Rufai should not attempt to export the kind of inciting and inflammatory statements that have led to conflagration and bloodletting in his Kaduna state to our national political firmament.
“From el-Rufai’s comment, Nigerians now know those behind the series of smear campaigns and spurious allegations against our Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Peter Obi.
“Instead of fixating on our party and the soaring popularity of our Presidential candidate, we expect el-Rufai to show remorse that he was part of those who brought in the Buhari administration, which has inflicted so much pain on Nigerians in the last three and half years.
“He must therefore know that the 2019 election will not be about name calling, smear campaign and character assassination but on finding solutions to the issue of governance for which Nigerians are fully rallied on the platform of the PDP.
“El-Rufai should therefore steer clear of our party and our candidates and begin to prepare to give a full account of his tenure as governor of Kaduna state.”
Meanwhile, Governor el-Rufai has insisted that any person that doesn’t recognize the human right of every citizen to move freely, live and work in any part of Nigeria, “but implies that though foreigners can observe elections in his state, other Nigerians may only do so in their states of origin is not fit to be VP of Nigeria.”
Pastor Mrs. Folu Adeboye, the Wife of the General Overseer, Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has advised Christians to embrace righteousness for the country, Nigeria, to move forward.
She also asked Nigerians to call on God to defend the country against enemies fighting its peace and prosperity even as she called on Nigerians to celebrate the God of Nigeria for His unmerited favours upon the nation.
Pastor Folu Adeboye, who led the special prayer for the nation yesterday, Friday night during the 17th Annual Abuja Special Holy Ghost Service at RCCG Camp, KM 23, Auta-Gurgu Village, Abuja-Keffi Expressway, Nassarawa State, said further advised Christians to pray for peace and tranquility of the nation, especially as the nation is preparing for general elections.
She asked thousands of Christians who gathered for the special prayer to pray for President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) and those in authority at all levels for God to give them direction in leading the affairs of Nigeria.
“O God intervene and direct the government to make policies that will benefit your people and our nation. Prince of Peace, please let your peace reign in Nigeria. Arise oh Lord and defend Nigeria.”
She prophesied that Nigeria would arise again to glory and honour for other nations to see.
Pastor Folu Adeboye enjoined Christians to pray to God for forgiveness of sins that had befallen the nation and to have His mercies on the people.
“We plead for the forgiveness of ancestral sins, idolatry, murder, stealing, greed, selfishness and other sins that might be working against our progress as a nation; we ask for forgiveness in all realms for our nation.
“Imbibe in us the spirit of the fear of God in all our undertakings as leaders and citizens of this nation and let Nigeria be God’s own nation with peace, progress and prosperity in Jesus mighty name.”
Earlier, the Coordinator of Northern Region of the Church, Pastor Ezekiel Odeyemi, urged Nigerians to always be grateful to God for His protection upon their lives because they were His divine choice.
Odeyemi, who is also the Pastor-In-Charge of Region 10 of RCCG, was ministering on the theme of the 17th edition: “Divine Choice”.
According to him, Nigerians must continue to thank God for His preservation and purpose upon the nation because “Nigeria is a divine choice of God’’.
“Therefore, our destiny depends upon whether we live in harmony with God, follow His moral teachings.
“It is our responsibility to decide our destiny to find our inspiration to live righteously to be God’s divine choice.”
Odeyemy encouraged Christians to see themselves as chosen of God even when they were going through helpless situations.
The former Governor of Anambra State and Vice Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi has expressed shock over what he called “reckless utterances” by the Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasiru Ahmed el-Rufai against him.
Peter Obi, referring to governor el-Rufai twitter account where he described Obi as “a tribal bigot,” said: I believe that as we grow older and are saddled with more responsibilities, we are expected to become circumspect in our thinking and avoid recklessness in our speeches and utterances.”
Peter Obi said he was shocked to read such an outburst of hate from El Rufai, especially when, according to him, “the statement came unprovoked, suggesting that it was what he sat down to think of rather than thinking about how to solve the many problems plaguing the country.”
The PDP Vice Presidential candidate, who was responding to reporters’ questions during Youth Programme at Nnewi today, Saturday, said: “What His Excellency, Governor Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai said about me has been brought to my attention.
“I believe that as we grow older and are saddled with more responsibilities, we are expected to become circumspect in our thinking and avoid recklessness in our speeches and utterances. How does the circumstance he referred to in relation to bigotry to warrant such a label? All I do for people like El Rufai is to pray for them and encourage them to concentrate on doing those things that will better the lots of Nigerians rather than engage in hate speeches that will divide and destroy the country.”
Peter Obi said that Nigeria does not need violence of speech to solve her numerous problems, adding: “in this difficult time in our country, when thousands of our brothers and sisters across ethnic divides are killed all over the country, including innocent citizens in Kaduna state; millions of our children from all the parts of the country are out of school; millions of Nigerian youths from all the parts of the country are without jobs, our pre-occupation, especially among those that are in government should not be making reckless speeches. What our leaders should be doing today is seeking solution to numerous problems of our dear country.”
On the claim that he was arrested on the election day in Anambra, Obi said: “I am aware that during the said election he referred to, security agents merely restricted his movement because he has no business being in Anambra as I would not have any being in Kaduna on an election day.
Peter Obi cautioned Nigerians, especially those in positions of authority, to avoid the dominance of the vice of hate over the virtues of love in whatever they do.
El Rufai had alleged, in his tweet that Peter Obi stopped him from moving around Anambra State during the gubernatorial election in the State in 2010.
Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan has insisted that Saudi Arabia knew who had killed the journalist and writer, Jamal Khashoggi. This was contained in recordings related to his murder, which he said, have been shared with the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia and others.
Recall that Khashoggi, a critic of Saudi rulers, was killed inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2nd this year. Saudi Arabia has admitted he was murdered there, but denied suggestions its royal family was involved.
The Saudis have also denied comments allegedly made by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman describing Khashoggi as a dangerous Islamist.
The reported phone call to the White House came before Saudi Arabia admitted Khashoggi had been killed.
There is still no consensus on how Khashoggi died. He entered the consulate to sort out documents for his marriage.
Initially, Turkish media had quoted sources as saying Turkey had audio recordings proving that Khashoggi had been tortured before being murdered.
Last week, however, Turkey said he had been strangled immediately after entering the consulate and his body dismembered “in accordance with plans made in advance”.
Nobody has been found and a Turkish official said it had been dissolved. Saudi Arabia has changed its account of what happened to Khashoggi.
When he first disappeared, it said Khashoggi had walked out of the building alive. It later admitted he had been murdered, saying the killing was premeditated and a result of a “rogue operation”.
It has arrested 18 suspects who, it says, will be prosecuted in Saudi Arabia. Turkey wants the suspects to be extradited.
Turkey has not publicly blamed Saudi Arabia for the killing.
“We gave the recordings, we gave them to Saudi Arabia, we gave them to Washington, to the Germans, to the French, to the English,” President Erdogan said in a televised speech on Saturday.
“They listened to the conversations which took place here, they know”, he said.
No other country has admitted hearing the said recording.
When asked by the BBC on Saturday, the UK Foreign Office neither confirmed nor denied being given copies of the tapes.
Khashoggi’s fiancée, Hatice Cengiz, has called on world leaders to “bring the perpetrators to justice”.
For decades, he was close to the Saudi royal family and also served as an adviser to the government.
But he fell out of favour and went into self-imposed exile in the US last year. From there, he wrote a monthly column in the Washington Post in which he criticised the policies of the crown prince.
During a phone call with President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and national security adviser John Bolton, Prince Mohammed said Khashoggi had been a member of the Muslim Brotherhood, a transnational Islamist organisation, according to the Washington Post.
The phone call is reported to have taken place on 9 October, a week after Khashoggi disappeared.
Prince Mohammed also reportedly urged the White House to preserve the US-Saudi alliance.
In a statement to the newspaper, Khashoggi’s family denied he had been a member of the Muslim Brotherhood and said the murdered writer had himself denied this repeatedly in recent years.
What do other countries say?
Saudi Arabia has faced a backlash over the death, including from its allies, who have called for answers.
US President Donald Trump has said he is “not satisfied” with the Saudi account. However, he also said he was unwilling to sacrifice lucrative arms deals with the country.
France has said it will impose sanctions, but given no details.
Also in a meeting in Paris on Saturday, Mr Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron said the Saudi authorities should shed full light on the murder, Reuters quoted French presidential sources as saying.
The two leaders also warned against further destabilisation of the Middle East as a result of the affair and expressed the hope that it could create an opportunity for a resolution to the war in Yemen, where a Saudi-led coalition has been fighting Iran-backed Houthi rebels.
UK Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt has said Khashoggi’s murder had “possibly” given the US and the UK a chance to put new pressure on Saudi Arabia over other issues.
The main question agitating the minds of millions of Nigerians as the minimum wage mantra trends is why don’t we subject the emoluments of our political office holders and top civil servants to the same ruthless debate as we are with those of the underclass?
Why don’t we open the books of the pay and allowances of our rulers for us to talk about the way we do over the minimum wage issue? Why are the labour and trade unions not looking into the incomes of the President, governors and legislators, seeing it is the constituency of labour unions?
We deserve to expose for scrutiny the pay of our leaders as part of the effort to review the wage regime of the worker. When we know what they earn, we should then begin to work out corresponding adjustments downwards to the lowest levels of workers. If, as an example, a federal legislator takes home N 13. 5m monthly as revealed by one of them, by the time we begin to move down the ladder armed with the lawmaker’s benchmark, the compatriot at the lowest rung should earn far more than the final N30, 000 on the table at present.
Let us also know what our President and the governors (and their deputies) earn, both what the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission is giving them and the bottomless security votes it is not recommending but which they’re taking. When again we travel down the steps, we can’t but arrive at living wages for the labourer laying the golden eggs. I don’t see anything sacrosanct about the pay of those we elect to serve us.
Workers are the people making this nation of ours work. These civil servants are resilient and hardworking, even in ‘unfavourable’ work environment. Giving such environment, their counterpart outside the shores of Nigeria may not work!
It is common knowledge that civil service is the engine room of any state. And folks who make the civil service deserve a better living- a take home package that could really take them home and pay their bills.
I think the angst of labour is that high and exorbitant cost of living has devalued their retainer. Really the ‘prices of key consumables’ have increased since the last minimum wage review in 2011
But whereas it is the right of the trio of the Ayuba Wabba-led Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), The Bobboi Kaigama –led Trade Union Congress and the Joel Ajaero- led United Labour Congress to campaign for increased minimum wage for workers, I am of the view that their approach bothers on showmanship – their success may mean more money in circulation and its attendant inflation where the naira might suffer more devaluation- and before too long, they may return to the strike action starting point.
There could have been a better way to package the negotiation and the implementation process without the uproar the issue has generated. This happened in 2011, and traders raised prices of their goods.
Labour is on the neck of government without asking for a stable pricing policy nor considering the revenue strength of each federating state to meet their salary obligation. There is the issue of what I will call “cyclical unemployment” where individuals lose their jobs as a result of a downturn in aggregate demand (AD), forcing employers to overuse existing staff while refusing to increase workforce. This is what I also call ‘Engwukata’ effect.
The Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) chairman and governor of Zamfara State Abdulaziz Yari was reported to have said: “We are willing to pay any amount, but the issue is the capacity to pay.”
Yari was realistic for even at the current N18,000 minimum wage, some states have been finding it difficult to pay and are owing their workers.
Of course, if Bayelsa, Edo, and Delta states are ready to pay N30,000 as reported in the media, they should not wait for labour strike before pleasing their workers. Government should not cave-in to labour’s high demand as that would not occasion increased revenue both in allocation and internally generated revenue to states coffers to satisfy raised payroll
What workers really need is value for their money where we are producing and patronizing our own “key consumables” and providing a competitive market system. Minimum wage increase is not the solution.
Patriots think and act for the interest of their society. Given that we just came out of recession, one would expect labour leaders to show patriotism by “advising government to demonstrate adequate planning and fiscal discipline” and be democratic by allowing each state to tactically set their own minimum package based on her financial strength.
Labour could force the hand of government favour part-time ‘legislooters’ to save us the burden of lawmakers going home with over N500 million per annum whereas the real civil servants make do with miserable weak purse
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that 35 registered political parties may not participate in the Nigeria’s 2019 general elections.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in charge of Rivers, Obo Effanga, said at a media briefing today, Friday in Port Harcourt did not give the names of the parties and reasons for their inability to take part in the next years elections.
The commissioner explained that out of 91 political parties which INEC registered so far, only 56 of them are ready to fully take part in the election eventhogh, he stressed that the commission is interested in all the 91 registered political parties.
“But the commission would only deal with political parties that registered for the election in 2019.”
He assured Rivers people that the commission was ready to ensure free, fair and credible elections in 2019, stressing: “we assure you that on the day of the elections, every material needed for the elections would be ready to ensure free, fair and credible process.”
Effanga noted that the Card Readers would be used for the 2019 general elections, saying that any voter who is not accredited by the Card Reader would not cast his or her vote.
He explained that provisions would be made if the Card Reader developed any hitch in the process even as he called on community leaders to advise their youths against disrupting the elections.
He emphasized that INEC will not conduct in any community that could not advise its youths to be of good conduct, advising stakeholders to play their part properly.
He said that security agencies, the political class, among others, should ensure that the 2019 general elections were successful.
According to him, any politician who would have objections of any kind concerning the 2019 general elections should go to court to seek redress.
He called on the electorate to pick up their Permanent Voter Cards at their areas of registration to enable them to exercise their franchise on the day of the election.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is angry with the House of Representatives Committee on Emergency and Disaster over his being indicted on N5.8 Billion released for emergency intervention of food security to the North-East in June 2017, when he was Acting President.
In a statement today, Friday by his spokesman, Laolu Akande, Professor Osinbajo described such indictment by the House Committee as baseless and totally false, saying: “such interpretations are flawed and should be utterly ignored.”
The Vice President recalled that in its report, the Committee alleged that a sum of N5,865,671,939.26 was approved and released in June 2017 vide a Memo raised from the Office of the Acting President, directing the minister of Finance and the Accountant General of the Federation to so act.
He noted that the House Committee also concluded that the payment made was in contravention of approval of the National Assembly, stressing that such conclusion is both false and misleading. “To start with, it is important to understand the context of the transaction. This was at a time when internally displaced persons and their host communities faced very severe food shortages throughout the North East, as a result of successive poor harvests and abandoned farmlands, minimal cross-border cash crop trade and lost economic opportunities. “On 15th April 2017, the United Nations World Food Programme (UN WFP), a major aid organisation and food supplier to the region, had issued a warning that it would be reducing its vital support to about 1.8 million IDPs by as much as 85%, due to corresponding reduction in funding by the donor countries. Around the same time, the United Nations Commission for Refugees in Geneva also warned of the growing risk of mass deaths from starvation among people living in the conflict areas. “The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) moved urgently to prevent the looming disaster by establishing a strategic food intervention plan for the affected States. A Presidential Committee on Emergency Food Delivery to the North East was convened and the Committee met on the 13th of May, 2017 to kick off the process, with the then Acting President as Chairman. “Other members of the Committee included: (i) Minister of Finance; (ii) Minister of Budget and National Planning; (iii) Minister of State for Budget and National Planning; (iv) Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development; (v) Governor of Central Bank; (vi) Deputy Chief of Staff to the President; and (vii) Senior Special Assistant in the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President. “Resulting from the deliberations of this and subsequent meetings, the approval referred to in the House Committee’s Report was, in fact, based on a request raised by the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria as facilitator of the National Food Security Programme, vide a letter dated May 25, 2017. “As explained in the said letter, there was an immediate need to distribute grains, including rice, maize, soya beans and sorghum, to Internally Displaced Persons through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). The only way to obtain the quantity of grains required was to resort to the National Food Security Progamme (NFSP) earlier established by the Federal Government as a means of shoring up its strategic grain reserves. “It was in consequence of the Federal Government decision to urgently purchase the stored grains for distribution to Internally Displaced Persons that the CBN made the proposal for approval of 30,905.08 Metric Tonnes at N5,229,685,333.26. Of that amount, the then Acting President eventually approved N5,036,644,933.26, after excluding bagging costs. This was pursuant to the recommendation that bagging, transportation and other logistics were best handled by NEMA. “NEMA also originated a request to the Acting President, dated May 25, 2017, requesting the sum of N829,026,456.00 for general logistics, branding & packaging, tracking, security, personnel, media & publicity and contingency costs of taking the grains from their respective locations in Kano, Kaduna, Funtua, Ibadan and Gombe to Adamawa, Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba and Jigawa States. “These presidential approvals were well within the clear constitutional authority of the Acting President, who needed to take emergency steps to forestall acute food shortages in the affected States and there was nothing illegal or unconstitutional about them. The approvals were duly communicated by the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor of Central Bank, Director General of NEMA and the Minister of Finance for implementation. “On account of the emergency nature of the procurement, the House Committee’s assumption that the ordinary rules of procurement would apply was wrong. Section 43 of the Public Procurement Act makes provision for emergency procurement, in which case the procuring entity is allowed to engage in direct contracting for goods and file a report thereafter with the Bureau of Public Procurement. “It is also wrong to assume that taxes and interests accruable to government from these transactions in food items were deliberately ignored or waived by neglect. Of course, we expect that any loans advanced to any of the companies would be recovered with the agreed interests, and that any profits made by such companies would be liable to tax in the usual manner. “The suggestion that the grains were never delivered to the target States is also blatant falsehood. In actual fact, in order to ensure effective distribution of the grains, an Emergency Food Intervention Project Team was established, consisting of the Director General of NEMA and representatives of the National Security Adviser, Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Naval Staff, Chief of Air Staff, Department of State Security, Nigeria Police and the Presidency. The Committee also worked with respective State Emergency Management Agencies, as well as humanitarian agencies such as World Food Programme, International Committee of the Red Cross, and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. Deliveries were publicly made directly to the intended beneficiaries.
“In fact, the then Acting President personally inspected the electronic truck-tracking unit established in Maiduguri for the purpose of monitoring the transportation, and flagged off the food distribution on the 8th of June, 2017. Besides, there was the integration of a robust monitoring and evaluation system into the operation in order to facilitate a transparent and accountable process. “Therefore, all insinuations on this matter regarding purported indictments and perceived violations of due process or the constitution are baseless and totally false. Such interpretations are flawed and should be utterly ignored.”
The Presidency has revealed the plans being put together by the government of President Muhammadu Buhari to boost national broadband network towards harnessing the potential of the internet and digital access for jobs, education, healthcare, identity management and to increase productivity in the public sector.
According to the senior special assistant to the President on media and publicity, Malam Garba Sheh, already the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), and the Nigeria Industrial Policy and Competitiveness Advisory Council, chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, have jointly launched the National Broadband Penetration Programme, a public-private initiative to ensure the deployment of 18,000km of fibre infrastructure to Nigeria’s existing stock of 38,000km of fibre cabling.
Garba Shehu, who spoke at the just-concluded 5th World Internet Conference in Wuzhen, China, explained that the “goal is to, within four years, provide fibre connectivity to all 774 Local Government Areas of Nigeria. Government’s role is to provide the right licensing framework as well as the necessary subsidies to encourage investment.”
He revealed that two additional infrastructure companies have been licensed in 2018, to roll out broadband infrastructure in Nigeria.
“Together with previous licensees, and other private sector players, these companies will help implement the Government’s vision of total national broadband connectivity,” he said.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President told the conference that Nigeria’s Social Investment Programme, including the N-Power Youth Employment Scheme, has provided 500,000 beneficiaries with electronic tablet devices for learning and self-development.
“Another aspect of the N-Power focuses on training young software engineers and coders,” he said.
The presidential aide further told the international gathering that the Buhari administration has begun the development of “Technology & Innovation Hubs” across the country, in partnership with the private sector, adding that a total of eight these hubs are planned across the country, with four already functional.
He also spoke about partnerships between the Nigerian Government and Facebook, Google, and Huawei to roll out high-quality Internet across the country, adding that the recently established Technology Advisory Body chaired by the Vice President will provide support to tech companies and initiatives.
He specifically thanked Chinese Companies like Huawei for being supportive of the Nigerian Government’s efforts at digital inclusion and expanding access.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President lauded Huawei for sponsoring Nigerian students for ICT training in China, recalling that in 2016 the company opened a Technology Hub, the Huawei Innovation and Experience Centre, in Lagos with a pledge to train 12,000 Nigerians, including 2,000 civil servants.
A Judge in the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho has okayed hearing on the suit seeking an order to compel the Federal Government to prosecute some persons accused of assisting the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IBOB), Nnamdi Kanu, to escape from Nigeria.
The suit, is praying the court to issue an order of mandamus to force relevant security agencies, including the Police and the Department of State Service (DSS), to promptly initiate criminal action against those accused of complicity in Kanu’s escape.
Those which the suit is seeking their arrest and prosecution, include Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe, a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode and two other persons that stood surety for the IPOB leader, Tochukwu Uchendu, and Emmanuel Shallom Ben.
Justice Tsoho ordered that the suit should be served on the Respondents- the DSS, its Director-General, the police and the Inspector-General of Police.
The Plaintiff, Isiah Ayugu, who secured leave to commence the action today, Friday, in his suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1254/18, insisted that the respondents have a case to answer.
Ayugu, through his lawyer, Oghenovo Otemu, prayed the court for an order mandating all the Respondents in the case to investigate and prosecute Abaribe and the others, including Kanu’s lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, for “working together to propagate and spread lies and falsehood that Kanu was abducted, kidnapped, arrested and detained by the Nigerian Military, when indeed they were well aware of Kanu’s whereabouts because they played roles in helping him to disappear from Nigeria.”
The plaintiff said during the period when the blackmail was against the military and the Nigerian government, he suffered emotional and psychological trauma as his freedom of movement and rights were hindered both at home and abroad.
He said so much pressure was asserted on the federal government and it’s agencies by Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe, Femi Fani-Kayode and the others. Meanwhile, the court has fixed November 22 to hear the suit.
