Nigerian soldiers are believed to have intensified onslaught against Boko Haram Terrorists through coordinated air and artillery bombardments of their enclaves across the Theatre.
These bombardments are said to be backed by long range patrols and ambushes targeted at preventing fleeing Boko Haram Terrorists from escaping and also denying them access to logistics supply.
The sustained operations, according to information reaching us, further pushed the terrorist group to the brink of defeat with many of its foot soldiers surrendering to troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE.
It was gathered that at the last count, a total of 68 insurgents have denounced terrorists activities within the last 3 weeks.
The surrendered terrorists were said to have given the hope that many of the enclaves have become untenable and life has become unbearable for the Boko Haram Terrorists owing to the blockade emplaced by troops and the sustained bombardments.
Report saod that those who. have surrendered and turned a new leaf are currently undergoing rehabilitation and de-radicalization programmes organized by the Federal Government through Operation SAFE CORRIDOR.
It was learnt that the ongoing operations by troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE are yielding results and have put enormous pressure on the Boko Haram Terrorists.
A military source hinted that the onslaught has contributed to the recent plea by one of the factional leaders of the group calling for international support. The Theatre Command in the war front, has asked all Boko Haram insurgents to have a rethink and discard the hypocritical ideologies espoused by their leaders.
“They can surrender to any military location nearest to them. The Theatre Command assures them of their safety and well-being if they surrender willingly.[myad]

Facts And Fictions About NAHCON, 2017 Hajj, By Babangida Pate

Hajj CommissionIn keeping with what now appears to be a tradition in the media, the National Hajj Commission (NAHCO), once again, came under an attack for allegedly ignoring the health and well being of Nigerians in a so-called pilgrims’ camp in Saudi Arabia.
It was alleged that some Nigerians pilgrims in Saudi Arabia have been hit by a variety of avoidable ailments while the NAHCO fails to provide basic medications and watches situation helplessly.
It was also claimed that the NAHCO officials have failed in their onerous responsibility of looking after the welfare of pilgrims, who have paid through their nose in order to make the annual obligatory pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.
However, just as soon as the claims were made, the NAHCON issued a statement denying the allegations and setting the record straight. In did so, no doubt, in an incontrovertible manner and supported its position with facts which, regrettably, can hardly be appreciated by its traducers.
Yet, it became clear to discerning Nigerians that the spurious allegations made against the NAHCON was, without any doubt, the handiwork of some unscrupulous elements trying to discredit the different reforms initiated by the commission.
It need not be said that the management of hajj exercise has thrived, before the arrival of the Barrister Abdullahi Mukhtar Mohammed-led NAHCON in a manner that could be best described as inefficient. Those in positions of authority in Nigeria, including traditional rulers and religious leaders who fed fat on government sponsored Hajj exercise, and erroneously referred to as the custodians of religion and culture, top notch politicians and public office holders used to go on Hajj, sponsor or grant Hajj seats to their acolytes and praise singers, with all expenses paid for by the government, to the great neglect of the common people and economy.
In the same breath, from the money earmarked for the purpose of Hajj exercise, in all tiers of government, billions were stolen and went into private pockets.
Such situation prevailed until 2015 when President Muhammadu Buhari tacitly canceled office of the Amirul Hajj and said that the federal government was no longer going to foot the bills of people going for pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia and blocked areas of financial leakages in the NAHCON.
Essentially, corruption has since ceased to exist in NAHCON, yet, those who benefitted from the old order, understandably, have refused to move on, even when it became clear to them and Nigerians that the situation can’t be otherwise with Abdullahi Mukhtar Mohammed at the helm of affairs.
Otherwise, how can the NAHCON be said to be operating a pilgrims’ camp in Saudi Arabia, when what it operates is a pilgrims residence in hotel in both Makkah and Madina, with no fewer than 50 medical health personnel including doctors, pharmacists and nurses working to dispense services to the pilgrims?
In fact, in demonstration of its intention to cater for the wellbeing of pilgrims, NAHCON’s national medical team arrived Saudi Arabia since July with the first batch of pilgrims.
Other than that, in order to enhance the performance and efficiency of the medical team, the commission flew malaria drugs worth over N10 million which have been distributed and stored in the Nigerian clinics located in Markaziyya area in Madina, where the bulk of Nigerian pilgrims are accommodated. The same situation exists in Makkah where the commission has about four functional clinics distributed across the different Nigerian accommodation/residence in Makkah.
But because some vested interests, taking shield behind the media, are bent on destroying the NAHCON, such facts cannot be seen even when it is made public, and appreciated.
Unfortunately, some section of the media fronting for those bent on destroying the NAHCON, even where allegations were made that some pilgrims were languishing in sickness, the names of the concerned pilgrims could not be mentioned, mainly because the stories were fictitious.
Of course, there is little or no wonder that the traducers of the NAHCON, having failed in their bid to tarnish the image and integrity of the leadership of the commission at the two chambers of the National Assembly during the controversy over 2017 Hajj fare, have now decided to disrupt the smooth operation of the 2017 Hajj exercise, through mainly issuing lies and half-truths in the media. And, therefore, that they came with this fallacious and mischievous lies designed to create panic in the minds of the pilgrims and people in Nigeria, it is hardly surprising.

Those Who Question Nigeria Oneness Are Challenging God – Sultan Of Sokoto

Sultan (2)The Sultan of Sokoto, Mohammed Sa’ad III, has accused those who have been questioning the coming together of Nigeria as one in 1914 as challenging God.

“We didn’t fall from the sky; we came from somewhere. We became Nigeria in 1914 through amalgamation. People are shouting that our coming together as a country in 1914 was a mistake, but God doesn’t make mistakes. If God doesn’t want such a thing as Nigeria to happen, nobody could ever have made it happen.

“Though we claim to be very religious, yet we challenge God. You don’t come out in the open and say you are challenging God, but by actions and utterances, many people are challenging God.”

The Sultan spoke today, Wednesday at a National Colloquium organized by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on the theme: “The Labour Movement and The Future of National Unity: What Role for Restructuring?” held at Sheraton Hotels and Towers, Abuja.

He said that people from the North are not afraid to discuss about the restructuring of Nigeria, but that he would not support anything that would disintegrate the country, warning that if the idea behind the clamour for restructuring is to disintegrate the country, he would not support it.

“We know who we are and I think it is important for us to look back while we are talking about restructuring. When people talk about restructuring, if they mean we should disintegrate, I will not support it, but if it means making things, lives better and much conducive and convenience for Nigerians, then let’s sit and discuss it,” the Sultan said.

The Sultan pointed out that many of the groups agitating from the North, West, South-South and South-East have their own points, but added that no group had the right to tell the other to leave wherever he lived anywhere in the country.

The Sultan said he fully backed the position of President Muhammadu Buhari, saying: “I support the president’s position 100 per cent, I believe what he said is right. And I say, instead of talking about devolution of power, let’s talk about devolution of economy.

“There is nothing wrong in you saying I want to be better, but when you sit to discuss issues, you find out that you are a much better person.”[myad]

If Only Igbo Can ‘Win’ Presidency, By Yusuf Ozi-Usman

ozi

It is interesting that Igbo people in the South East have declared that one of them must be President of Nigeria come 2019. Though, the confusion caused to such agitation by another group agitating for Biafra cannot be swept under the carpet, the fact remains that Igbos, like any other ethnic groups in Nigeria, deserve to take a shot at the Presidency.

However, in agitating for Presidency, with aggressive language such as IGBO MUST be President in 2019, something seems to be missing, which is what an English teacher would call Qualifier. In this case ELECTION.

In other words, the Igbos who are demanding for an Igbo President in 2019 have never say it properly, such as Must be elected President of Nigeria in 2019. It is a universal fact in democracy that it is by election that a person, irrespective of where he comes from, is ELECTED by people from all parts of the country.

This is saying that an Igbo man or woman that will be President of Nigeria in 2019 or any other time, must campaign, convince and get the votes of people from the North East, North West, North Central, South West, South South and of course, South East.

But the way Igbos have constituted themselves into haters of anything North and, to some extent, anything South West, looks as if they think that there is other way, other than election, one of them can ever be President of Nigeria.

[quote]If only the Igbos would calm down and develop neighbouring love for other ethnic groups, their dream of being President would be realized in no distant future.[/quote]

If only the Igbos would calm down and develop neighbouring love for other ethnic groups, their dream of being President would be realized in no distant future.

All they need to do is to ask to be given a lesson or two from late Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, aka MKO Abiola, through those who were close to him during his political and electoral exploits.

Because MKO Abiola built bridges across the ethnic and religious divides, he defeated even his political opponent in his own State to win Presidential election, though, the power-that-be at that time denied him the fruit of the victory.

Igbos cannot continue to be antagonistic to the people in other parts of the country and still expect them to be sympathetic to their course in a democracy that we are operating.

[quote]Igbos cannot continue to be antagonistic to the people in other parts of the country and still expect them to be sympathetic to their course in a democracy that we are operating.[/quote]

Indeed, when Igbos cry about marginalization, the impression one gets is that they have been confined to their own side of the country while those who marginalize them are governing: that they are not in the government at all.

But this is the ethnic group that has its brilliant men and women in strategic offices, even in this Muhammadu Buhari’s government. What about the powerful minister of State for Petroleum Resources (next only to the President himself)?

What about the ministers of Trade and Industry: Labour and Employment; Mines and Solid Minerals? What about the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria; the Chief Judge of Nigeria and several other key positions?

And in the immediate past government, of Goodluck Jonathan, Igbos dominated almost all the strategic federal positions, to the extent that one Igbo minister was in fact, the de facto President while the other held sway at the only source through which Nigeria got income to operate as a government: Petroleum.

The point here is that what different does it make for Igbo nation now that they feel they are being marginalized and at the time, during Jonathan government, they had everything going in their favour?

Except if there is some ulterior motive, which still borders on pathological and open hatred for anything North, Igbo as an ethnic group has had its own fare share of the nation’s distributive resources and positions, based on circumstances prevailing.

It means that they should learn to properly integrate and blend with other parts of the country, instead of clamouring for more attention on top of the attention they are already getting or more attention than the other ethnic groups.

And, to let a political none entity and dual-citizen Nnamdi Kanu to take over the available political space in the South East and or sponsor him to be assailing the rest of Nigerians with a call for a Biafran Republic, a thing that even a very intelligent, Oxford-trained military officer like Emeka Odumwgwu Ojukwu could not achieve, is to carry the joke too far.

And to think that Nnamdi Kanu and his sponsors from the Igbo elders can succeed in twisting the hands of, or confusing another intelligent military officer who now leads the country in democratic robe, Buhari, to part with any part of this great country, is a dream from where they need to wake up.

In other words, it is foolhardy for Nnamdi Kanu and his sponsors to think that President Buhari, who fought the civil war to keep Nigeria one from 1967 to 1970 would let go of any part of Nigeria to such cheap blackmail.

By the way, why did they not agitate for Biafra in Jonathan government?

Indeed, Igbos need to really put their act together, resolve to properly integrate themselves in Nigeria, extend hands of genuine brotherhood to people in other parts of the country, respect other people’s feelings and cultures and, above all, determine to make Nigeria a country they can be proud of. It is only by so doing that their ambition to become the President will be realized, because, people in other parts of the country are wise enough to know who to vote for.

You can’t vote for those who hate you, insult you, call you unprintable names and make you look worthless.

Can you? [myad]

Ojukwu Jr Disowns Biafra, Says His Father Died Beleiving In One Nigeria

Emeka Ojukwu Jr
Emeka Ojukwu Jr

Son of late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Emeka Ojukwu Jr. has disowned those agitating for Biafra, saying that his father died believing in one Nigeria. He also confirmed that his father actually discussed with President Muhammadu Buhari on the Unity and indivisibility of the Nigerian Nation.

Ojukwu Jr in a statement in Awka, Anambra State, said that that contrary to news around the internet by Biafra agitators that he had denied that his father met President Buhari, he never granted any media interview or posted any massage on social media that Buhari was wrong about his discussions with the late father.

His reaction is coming on the heels of stories making the rounds in the social media that he; Ojukwu Jr. replied Buhari’s statements as untrue which members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have been describing as lies, demanding proof of the meeting with the late Ikemba of Nnewi with Mr. President.

Ojukwu Jr. said that his late father actually held the said meeting with Buhari before his demise, adding that all that Buhari said in his Nationwide Broadcast were true.

“It has been brought to my attention that there is an article making the rounds on social media attributed to me refuting the remarks of Mr. President concerning his relationship and discussions with my late father.

“Let me state the following categorically; firstly, that I made no such comments to anybody, and secondly that I am aware that His Excellency’s comments were indeed factual.

“I have noticed a disturbing trend recently of fake news being attributed to me on social media. I don’t know who is behind it or what their motivation might be but let me assure you that any time I feel the need to comment publicly on any matter, I will not do so via some anonymous email or anything of the like, rather be rest assured that there will be no ambiguity whatsoever as to whether the comments came from me.

“Let me lend my voice to those of the rest of my fellow countrymen and welcome Mr. President back home.”

Ojukwu Jr. urged members of the public to discountenance the stories in the social media or any media platform whatsoever credited to him that he accused Buhari of telling lies, warning that such malicious and damaging publications would not be taken lightly should it be repeated.

He also urged the President not to take such comments seriously as it smacks of gutter and yellow media reportage aimed at overheating the polity.[myad]

Aso Villa And The Audacity Of Rats, By Reuben Abati

“What’s that sound I am hearing?”

“What sound?”

“I thought I heard something like miaow, miaow…”

“Oh my cats…oh yes…”

“Are you now breeding cats?”

“Not really. But I have just joined a group of concerned Nigerians who are planning to go to the Presidential Villa in Abuja to help sort out this issue of rats that invaded the President’s office and chased him out of his office as the BBC reported.”

“You mean you believe that story?”

“Nobody knows what to believe in this country anymore, but we are patriots, and Baba’s loyalists, and we are determined to make our own contribution. Why don’t you join us?”

“To go and kill rats in Abuja?”

“Yes. Can’t you see that those rats are irresponsible elements? The President travelled for three months and they just took over his office, ate up the furniture in the office and now Baba has to work from home for 3 months while his office would have to be renovated, all at public expense.”

“How on earth would rats invade the President’s office?”

“You like to ask questions. Garba Shehu, the President’s spokesman and an experienced journalist who knows a story is not a story except it is accurate has told us that they are having a problem with rats in the Villa, who are you to doubt him? Have you been to the Villa before?”

“Yes.”

“So, join us. Those rats have crossed national red lines. They must be destroyed relentlessly because they are terrorists and criminals. They are in fact guilty of treasonable felony. What they have done is the equivalent of an attempted coup d’etat! We, the concerned citizens, will not take it. We have a duty to defend this democracy.”

“But why are you bothering yourself? The President has met with the Security Chiefs. And he gave them a marching order to ensure national security. They should know what to do”

“But did they obey the marching order? After their meeting with the President, the other day, they just addressed a press conference and returned to their offices. Not a word about the breach of national security by rats. I was shocked. I expected the service chiefs to march straight to the President’s office and deal with the rats with immediate effect. This is the problem. Baba has around him, people who are not ready to help his administration. Even the Generals, with all their epaulets and combat experience, are running away from common rats! You now see why some of us have decided to take up this matter as patriots?”

“I don’t think anybody will allow you to take cats into the President’s office, though. That may even be more of a threat to national security than the rats invasion.”

“Okay, what do you suggest, we go to the zoo and get lions, jackals and hyenas to attack rats?”

“What will a lion do with rats?”

“That is my point. It is actually a job for cats. Rats flourish in the absence of cats. Don’t you know it is only when the cat is not at home that rats become bold enough to take over the house? As the Yoruba people put it, a i si nile ologinni, ile di ile ekute.”

“Abasi mbok. I could never imagine that a day will come when Okon Calabar will take over Nigeria’s seat of power.”

“Okon Calabar. Who is that?”

“Okon Calabar.  That is what we call rats in Calabar. Okon Calabar is not an ordinary rat at all. It has the appetite of about ten men. Have you ever seen a rat that has a pot belly, the effect of pathological gluttony?”

“Jesus”

“That is Okon Calabar. Not even rat poison can kill it. And your cats had better be capable. Okon Calabar’s jaws are like this… strong, frightening. Ugh. In those days, Okon Calabar’s specialty was the family pot of soup. If you left your soup pot carelessly in the kitchen, Okon Calabar will lick all the soup and leave for you a clean pot.  The real story is that Okon Calabar has very strong spiritual powers; it is an agent of demons and spirits.”

“Thank you. I think from now on, I will just be very careful. Anybody at all who bears Okon whether a rat or a human being… You now see why Baba had to abandon his office and work from home?”

“But is he actually working from home? I think he is working from the office.”

“The same office where the rats have taken possession?”

“I saw the photograph of the President’s meeting with the Service Chiefs. That is actually not the office in the residence. The office in the residence is small and private. I don’t know why we have to be told he is working from home, when he is actually using a second office which is part of his main office.”

“The people working for him say he is working from home, you say he is actually working from his office, another office. You and your over-sabi.”

“Well, I may be wrong. But the last administration extended the President’s office, by erecting in the green space between the President’s office and the residence, a mini-conference/banquet hall, which has a hall, a diplomatic reception room, a fully fitted kitchen, a Presidential office, a stage, a control room, a newsroom, and a broadcast room where the President can either record or have live broadcast.”

“They may have changed the design of things since you last visited the Villa. So you don’t know”

“But I saw the photographs in the media. The office in that Presidential office extension, is just about 3 minutes walk from the residence.  Once the President goes there to hold meetings, he is already effectively in the office. And in any case, was it even necessary to tell us the President is working from home or that rats have chased him away from his office? If they want to change furniture, let them do it. There is no point creating unnecessary news.”

“Your oversabi is getting too much these days.”

“Unnecessary news always generates unnecessary questions. Now, we have been told that N2 billion was actually earmarked for the cleaning and fumigation of the Villa. So, who is responsible for keeping the Villa rodent-free?”

“N4 billion actually. I hear Julius Berger is in charge of the maintenance of the Villa.”

“So, Julius Berger would have to explain to Nigerians how rats invaded the President’s office. Is it that they locked up the place and stopped cleaning it? Ordinarily, every part of the Villa must be kept clean every day. I still don’t believe this rat story. Rats in the President’s office? The BBC in its report was practically laughing at Nigeria. I imagine when next any foreign diplomat is posted to Nigeria, one of his briefing notes would be the need for him to watch out for rats in the Villa. Oyinbo people too like akproko.”

“Do you want to keep writing an essay on this matter or you want to join us? Any small thing, you will just start vibrating.”

“We need to raise questions. But since you insist that the rats story must be true, could that also be the reason why the Federal Executive Council meeting for this week was cancelled?”

“I don’t think so. You should stop worrying about whether a Council meeting is held or not. It is not an issue. There is nothing in the Constitution that says FEC must meet every week or on any particular day. The President can choose to hold cabinet meetings on a- need-arises-basis.  It is a matter of choice or style.”

“Okay, if I must join your rat-catchers gang, what is in it for me?”

“Must you always expect to be paid for every service rendered? We are a group of volunteer patriots going to Aso Rock to save it from rats. Oh when the saints/Go marching in/Oh, when the saints go marching in/Oh how I want to be in that number/When the saints go marching in/Oh when the drums begin to bang…/I want to be in that number…. Are you joining us?”

“Wait first.  I think before we go to the Villa, we should take Lassa Fever vaccination as a form of protection and candidly, I think everybody in that Villa should be tested for  Lassa fever. As you well know, rats are vectors of Lassa fever.”

“I don’t think this matter is that serious.”

“Still, it is better to take precautions.  Doctors can be imported from either the UK or the US or the Medecins san frontieres can be called in to help.”

“We have doctors in Nigeria who can administer vaccination if need be.”

“Which Nigerian doctors?”

“It is even the job of a nurse. Vaccination is a simple procedure.”

“If you want me to join the rat-catchers league of patriots, you will first arrange a trip for me to the UK to take a Lassa fever injection, and then I will be prepared.”

“Obviously, you are also afraid of the rats, so, you have to find an excuse to dodge. And to think I have a role for you in this all-important and urgent national assignment.”

“What role?”

“I want you to be our Pied Piper.”

“Pied Piper. What is that?”

“Don’t tell me you have never heard of the Pied Piper? The Piped Piper of Hamelin”

“No. Why should I know him? Does he know me too?”

“Kai. What are they teaching you people in school these days? And you go about pretending to be educated? Kai. Well, I can’t blame you. What should we expect when the universities are running epileptic programmes and the teachers are on strike almost every year?”

“Don’t insult me. What is your point?”

“Okay, I want you to be our Pied Piper, right? You will dress up colourfully, and play a pipe, a flute or a saxophone or a mouth organ, whichever one you can play. You will also carry our company colours”

“Are we a company and what has colours got to do with it?”

“We are a brigade. In military terms, a brigade is also a company.  And when you go to war, you must carry your colours. That is another word for the flag. In this case, you will carry the Nigerian flag.”

“But music? Why the music?”

“The Pied Piper of Hamelin played music for the rats that invaded Hamelin in medieval Germany, and led them out of the city and thus saved Hamelin from an epidemic.  But you are not going to play music for the rats in Aso Villa. No. No. No. Our strategy is different. We are not going to play music for those rodents and terrorists. We are going to destroy them. The punishment for treason in Nigeria is death, not music. You will play music for the kyanwas and muzuru, to motivate them.”

“And who are those?”

“Cats. Kyanwa- female cats; muzuru- male cats. We did some research and found that cats respond positively to music. No stone will be left unturned on this mission”

“So, how soon are we storming Aso Villa? The whole thing is beginning to look interesting to me.”

“As soon as we finish working out the logistics. See, our strategy is simple. The operation will be codenamed “Operation Kyanwa” by the Hamelin Brigade. The cats will attack and destroy the rats. Then we will fumigate the entire Villa. The furniture will be moved out and replaced. And by God’s grace, the President can return to his Main office, by this time next week, to continue the noble work of leading 190 million Nigerians, without any threat from irresponsible rats.”

“Brilliant”

“I take it that you are with us, then.”

“Ye-s s-ir. “

“Thank you. Let us go and teach the Okon Calabars of Aso Villa, a lesson. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”   [myad]

Presidency Educates Fani-Kayode, Others On Tenets Of Democracy

Mallam Garba Shehu
Mallam Garba Shehu

“Democracy requires planning and proper process. Issues are resolved through established processes, not by abuses, insults or irresponsible statements.”
These were views of the Presidency, in reaction to criticism, by former Nigerian Aviation minister, Femi Fani Kayode and others on the speech contained in a broadcast to the nation by President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday.
In a statement by the senior special adviser to the President on media and publicity, Garba Shehu, the Presidency emphasised: “the country’s parliament is ready and willing to discuss all issues but the pundits are more interested in TV and newspaper headlines. Threats don’t work in a democracy.”
The statement said that for criticising the President for not responding to restructuring of the country – whatever that means – is completely off the mark.
It said that the President has no power to impose restructuring on the country by military dictate, adding that the National Assembly members are the elected representatives of the people who can handle agitation for restructuring and other constitutional changes.
“The President is constitutionally bound to work with the National Assembly to deal with such complex issues. The President would not exercise arbitrary powers or bypass the legislature in taking such fundamental decisions.
“Changes don’t happen on a whim in a democracy.”
The statement said that the ‘immediate effect’ of military mentality cannot work under a democratic order and that since the President has sworn to defend the constitution, he would remain faithful to that oath by working with the legislature in taking major decisions on the future of Nigeria’s federal system.
It stressed that while Nigerians are free to express themselves, they should exercise such liberty with restraint and a sense of responsibility.
The statement said that those who tagged the President Buhari an enemy of Nigeria is in extreme bad taste, adding that nothing in Buhari’s service record would justify such scurrilous language. [myad]
