Coup Clamp Down: Turkish Security Operatives Abduct Gülen Sympathizers In Malaysia

Turkey President ErdogaTurkey Intelligence officers have allegedly abducted Gülen sympathizers in Malaysia, just as the Turkey government has commended Malaysia for allegedly deporting three of its citizens due to their links to the Gülen movement.
The relatives narrated how two out of the three Turkish citizens were allegedly extradited by Malaysian authorities upon a request from their Turkish counterparts as part of the latter’s clampdown against the movement.
A father of three, A.D was reported to have gone to a mosque late Thursday afternoon to pray but failed to come home, according to the letter. His family reported the incident to Malaysian police, who later said that A.D. was kidnapped.
“A.D. is a father of three. He has been working in education in Malaysia since 2010. He contributed to the foundation of the 450-student Time International School in Kuala Lumpur and another school of the same size in Ipoh. … He won the backing of the relevant Malaysian ministry for his contributions to education.
“He departed [from home] to perform afternoon prayer at a mosque at 17.05 on Oct. 13, but he did not come back. His mobile phone cannot be reached, either.
“His family reported the incident to the police late on Thursday. The family was first told that A.D. was just missing, but later police reported that he had been abducted. His passport is still in the family’s possession.”
However Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said on Friday that Malaysian Premier Najib Razak kept his word and handed over three Gülen-linked citizens to Turkey on Thursday night.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on October 14: “Those who fled abroad, you shall not feel safe. They cannot get away with it.
“Witnesses in the mosque said on Oct. 14 that two non-Malay people took A.D. and left.”
Another person who was reported by his relatives to be missing is the secretary-general of a Turkish-Malaysian business association.
“T.T. is married and has two children. … We have not heard from him since 13.00 on Oct. 13.
“He was attending courses at a language school. His car is still parked in the parking lot of the school.”
The Turkish Embassy is reported to have asked Malaysian authorities to close down Gülen-linked schools in the Asian country as in many other countries in late September. The Turkish ambassador reportedly asked authorities to take legal action against sympathizers of the Gülen movement as well.
Turkish government accuses the movement of masterminding a July 15 coup attempt, while the movement denies any involvement.
The movement is known for its education and aid activities in over 170 countries, but Turkish Foreign Ministry bureaucrats have been trying to expand domestic pressure to overseas subsidiaries of the movement in the recent past.
Turkish Education Minister İsmet Yılmaz said in mid-September that a government-established foundation is planning to take over 65 Gülen-linked schools in 15 countries. Quoting a story that recently appeared in the Greek Proto Thema newspaper, Turkey’s Vatan daily said on August 30 that Turkey’s National Intelligence Organization (MİT) has been tasked with locating, arresting and even killing Gülen-linked military officers who fled Turkey.
The fallout between the Turkish government and the movement first emerged when the government pinned the blame on the latter for the revelation of widespread corruption allegations back in 2013. [myad]

Buhari’s comments About His Wife Belonging In Kitchen Were Jokes – Garba Shehu

Garba Shehu 3

The senior special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on media and publicity, Malam Garba Shehu has said that his boss was just joking when he referred to his wife, Aisha as belonging to his kitchen and other room.

In a tweet today, Garba Shehu: “my friend, can’t leader get a sense of humour anymore? Mr. President laughed before that statement was made. He was obviously throwing banter”

The spokesman said that politics sometimes, should be spiced with humour, adding: “those of us close to him (President Buhari), know there is never a dull moment with him. Mr. President respects the place of women in our society. He believes in the abilities of women.

“One of Nigeria’s most sensitive offices today is headed by a woman, Mrs. Adeosun. This is an evidence of the confidence he reposes on women.” [myad]

Buhari Likens His Wife To Opposition Party Member

aisha-and-muhammedPresident Muhammadu Buhari has alluded to his wife, Aisha, as belonging to opposition party whom he cannot satisfy.
He said: “So, I claim superior knowledge over her (Aisha) and the rest of the opposition because in the end I have succeeded. It’s not easy to satisfy the whole Nigerian opposition parties or to participate in the government.”
President Buhari was reacting to statement credited to his wife during an interview on the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) that it was only a few people who were not even members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) that chose most of the appointees for the President, and that if things continue the way they are, she would not campaign for her husband’s second term bid in 2019.
The President, who spoke to news men in Berlin, the capital of Germany where he is currently undertaking an official visit, said: “I don’t know which party my wife belongs to, but she belongs to my kitchen and my living room and the other room.
“So I claim superior knowledge over her and the rest of the opposition because in the end I have succeeded.
“It’s not easy to satisfy the whole Nigerian opposition parties or to participate in the government.”
Aisha Buhari, in the BBC interview that her husband “does not know” most of the top officials he appointed to office.
She said that President Buhari has not indicated whether or not he will seek re-election in 2019, but that if he decides to contest, he would have to shake up his cabinet to get her support.
“He is yet to tell me (if he will seek re-election) but I have decided as his wife, that if things continue like this up to 2019, I will not go out and campaign again and ask any woman to vote like I did before. I will never do it again.”
Mrs. Buhari also gave indication of something which has caused silent anger amongst some leaders of the APC.
She said that some of the President’s appointees did not share the vision of his party and were appointed because of the influence of a “few people.
“Some people are sitting down in their homes folding their arms only for them to be called to come and head an agency or a ministerial position.”
Asked to name those who had hijacked the government, she refused, saying: “You will know them if you watch television.”
One name that has been repeatedly mentioned as having a strong influence in Mr. Buhari’s appointments is his cousin, Mamman Daura.
Daura, who holds no official position, is said to be the most powerful man in the presidency and is said to have Buhari’s ears.
There have been rumours within the Aso Villa of him having clashes with Aisha Buhari over his influence on her husband.
On whether the president is in charge of his administration, Mrs. Buhari said: “that is left for the people to decide.”
The BBC quotes its reporter Naziru Mikailu, as saying in Abuja that Mrs. Buhari’s decision to go public with her concerns may shock many people, but that it shows the level of discontent with the President’s leadership. [myad]

Buhari Announces Soon To Be Established Development Bank As Economic Game Changer

german-and-buhari-pix“I am pleased to announce that Development Bank of Nigeria will be taking off soon and should be a game changer in our economic diversification plans.”
President Muhammadu Buhari made this announcement today in Berlin, Germany when he addressed the German-Nigeria Business Forum.
President Buhari said that the bank, when fully operational, will support small and medium enterprises in the country, by improving their access to financing.
“Our ambitions of creating a diversified and inclusive economy in Nigeria can only be achieved by having a mix of small, medium and large businesses.
“This is why we worked with the German development agency, KFW, in designing the Development Bank of Nigeria which will support the small and medium size enterprises both financially and technically to ensure they take their rightful place in the industrialization value chain.
President Buhari, who described  Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into Nigeria from Germany as modest, asked prospective investors at the gathering to go beyond the expressions of interest and make binding commitments for trade, investments and industry in the key priority sectors of Agriculture, infrastructure, solid minerals and digital economy.
He said that Nigeria, which recorded a trade volume of 2.96 billion Dollars with Germany in 2015, still has a great deal of unexploited potential and room to diversify its exports to Germany and increase overall trade volumes.
According to the President, trade relations between both countries primarily take the form of oil and gas exports from Nigeria, machinery, vehicles and vehicle parts, telecommunications technology and chemical products in the other direction.
“Nigeria has remained a country of potential. Now we are in a hurry to develop and realize that potential.
“Nigeria is not yet where we would like it to be, but I am confident that the Government and people of Nigeria are determined to a CHANGE and be where we would like Nigeria to be:
“A major economy, that is subject to good governance on the basis of the rule of law and constitutional order and a responsible member of the international community.”
President Buhari, who had earlier met with the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel and President Joachim Gauck, told the business gathering that with the successes recorded in the fight against terrorism and the administrations resolute commitment to the war against corruption, Nigeria is open for business and broader relationship with Germany.
On corruption, he said: “we have boldly set out to bring an end to a culture of impunity and abuse of public trust. Corruption is the reason why we went through years of an oil boom and came out with very little to show in terms of savings or investments.
“Corruption is the reason our military struggled for so long against Boko Haram. Corruption is one of the reasons that in spite of our rich human and natural resources as a country, seventy percent of our population continues to live in poverty.
“Now we have said enough is enough. It is time to make public funds work for the public good. And that is why we are bringing culprits to book and recovering looted funds and assets.” [myad]

A 75 year old Swedish songwriter and singer, Bob Dylan, has won a Nobel Prize in literature from the Swedish Nobel prize Academy for the year 2016.

The award, described as the first in history of the Swedish Academy for a songwriter and singer has been accorded great honor.
The New York Times confirmed that Dylan is the first American to win the prize since the novelist Toni Morrison, in 1993. The announcement of the award in Stockholm was a surprise.

Although Dylan has been mentioned often as having an outside shot at the prize, his work does not fit into the literary canons of novels, poetry and short stories that the prize has traditionally recognized.
Dylan was born on May 24, 1941, in Duluth, Minn., and grew up in Hibbing. He played in bands as a teenager, influenced by the folk musician Woody Guthrie, the authors of the Beat Generation and modernist poets.

Dylan, whose original name is Robert Allen Zimmerman, identifies as Christian and has released several albums of religiously inspired songs, but he was born into a Jewish family. [myad]
