Dangerous Campaign Tone Coming From President Jonathan, By Yusuf Ozi-Usman

ozi
Yusuf Ozi-Usman

For the lovers of peace and unity of this country, Nigeria, it was refreshing to hear our President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan instructed members of his Presidential Campaign Organisation which he inaugurated last week, Tuesday January 6, to stay clear of personal attack of his political opponents. He went for specific by asking not only members of the campaign organisation but the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in general to understand that “they have an obligation to consolidate the nation’s democracy, strengthen its institutions and project Nigeria positively by running a disciplined, issues-based and civilized campaign.”
President Jonathan who dismissed pessimists that Nigeria can get it right in this year’s elections asked members of his campaign organisation to ensure “that through your campaigns, and activities, this primary objective is not lost.”
The Presidential campaign inauguration speech, though, ensconced in what Political analysts and pundits termed in some kind of innuendos and veiled ‘yabbis’ of the same political opponents, brought some kind of relief. It signalled mature campaign: the campaign that would aim at addressing what his government has been able to achieve for the country in the last over five years (if the tenure of the late Umar Musa Yar’adua which he completed is added). We were expecting the campaign of how the government is going to do things differently, from May 2015 if he is re-elected, to defeat the lingering dangerous activities of Boko Haram: the campaign on how power is going to be steady and our dead industries and commercial activities revived; how prices of essential food commodities are going to come down to the reach of the increasing number of destitute and hungry Nigerians.
Hope rose, from his speech, espousing “issue-base” campaign that Nigerians would be treated to issues relating to the crashing prices of crude oil across the globe and how it would be tackled locally for the betterment of Nigerians.
Nigerians were waiting, as the campaign taxies to a start, to hear the Jonathan government and PDP as a party, tell them that an entirely new method will be adopted to wrestle the monster: Corruption to the ground and that, irrespective of what happened, the government would ignore the political music, supposedly being played by people in the opposition, even, forgetting for a while, that opposition in an ideal democracy, plays such music, either to provoke the ruling party or more importantly, to put the government on its toes.
But, just when the game is about to start, President Jonathan fell flat for sentiment or emotion. He got enraged with what he imagined to be personal attacks on him and then went personal.
While speaking as he received in audience at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Wednesday evening, Tanko Yakasai-led Northern Elders Council, he blew hot and terrible, saying: “Some people call themselves statesmen but they are not statesmen. They are just ordinary politicians.
“Some people are hiding under some clogs, some big names and creating a lot of problems in this country.
“Making provocative statements in this country; statements that will set this country ablaze and you tell me you are a senior citizen. You are not a senior citizen you can never be. You are ordinary motor park tout because if you are a senior citizen you will act like one.
“It is not because of the offices we occupy, it’s by divine grace and providence that some of us occupy these offices. But what role are you playing to build this country
“For you to be a statesman is not because you have occupied a big office before but the question is what are you bringing to bear? Are you building this country? Or are you a part of people who tell lie to destroy this country? To create enmity and make people who ordinarily would have been living together to fight themselves.
“Are you planning to set the country ablaze? Because you did not get that particular thing you want.
“At the appropriate time Nigerians will know all of us even though I know most of you know us but the younger ones do not know.”
God help this country that the President, the father of the nation and the chief security officer of the largest nation in Africa, would be going into his re-election campaign setting this dangerous tone, no matter the circumstance.
As a matter of fact, the President, and a few hours before him, his campaign organisation spokesman, Femi Fani Kayode, who promised to “expose General Buhari” very soon, have set the tone that would lead the nation into anarchy.
What the President and Fani-Kayode have done is to institute the politics of vendetta, politics of open insults in market place, politics of hatred towards opponents who dare to challenge them in the contest for the Presidential seat; politics of throwing tantrums in all directions without caring about the consequence and politics of exposition.
Why would President and PDP jump into the dirty waters to swim, so to speak, with those they perceive, rightly or wrongly, of trying to dirty them?
Honestly, from the tone of President Jonathan’s diatribe on Wednesday (implying that anybody merely challenging him at the February Presidential poll is out to destroy the country or to cause chaos in the country), the rest of us, Nigerians need to pray and ask God for His gracious intervention.

That is for those of us who love peace and unity of this country, Nigeria.

Politics Of The Father, The Son And Holy Spirit In Ajaokuta, Kogi, By Tenimu Umar

Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, Dr. Ado Ibrahim
Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, Dr. Ado Ibrahim

The emergence of godfatherism in the politics of Ajaokuta local government council of Kogi state, Nigeria’s North Central dates back to the time in 1991 when new local governments were created. The founding fathers of the newly created Ajaokuta council influenced and controlled political activities of the area. Such power brokers that emerged after the creation of the council included late M.J Bello, late Abdulaziz Abu and Hon. Baba Ali and many others. They were the political and district leaders in their spheres of influence. These were the selfless leaders whose common objectives was to present the best candidates for any election; the candidates who understood and believed in their party’s ideology and who were also capable of executing programmes that would improve the welfare of the local populace and provide caring leadership.
But what we have today is the crude form of godfatherism who thrive on greed. In fact, greed has reached an epidemic proportion in the Ajaokuta political scene.
Some so-called godfathers have now instituted all kinds of bribery, corruption, nepotism, tribalism, and fraud, indoctrinating, surprisingly, some people who are in the poverty bracket.
In fact, godfatherism has been metamorphosed into political dynasty or what could be referred to as “familtocracy” which is family politics.
To be sure, familitocracy is all about a succession of people belonging to the same family who, through various means and forms in power and influence over other people.
Available evidence shows that a former commissioner in Kogi state, Moses Okino is guilty of nepotism in as much as most of the juicy positions that came through him were being held by members of his family.
For instance, Moses Okino, the so-called godfather is currently the Managing Director of Kogi Investment & Properties Ltd while his son, Aloysius Okino was a local government chairman even as his two nephews served as vice chairman and SIEC respectively. Other positions such as local government treasurer, council leader, special assist, Head of Department of Education Department, supervisor for health and council clerk were also held by his cousins.
All these positions were held concurrently by members of the Moses Okino’s family.
From the foregoing points, it is logical to say that the immediate past administration of the local government exhibited a perverted and monstrous form of political dynasty cum political trinity i.e politics of the god, the father (Moses Okino), the son (Aloysius Okino) and the holy spirit (family members).
This system appears to pose a big threat to grassroot development as it prevent the people from participating unfettered in the political process. It is also on record that between 2008 and 2014, Moses Okino had consistently installed or imposed this son, Aloysius Okino as vice chairman, liaison office (LO) and substantive chairman of Ajaokuta local government.
He is so desperate to maintain the status quo that he anointed the ex-council boss, Aloysius as the
current PDP flagbearer for the House of Representatives election.
He has also been exhibiting the politics of divide and rule mentality in the political landscape of Ajaokuta by polarizing the diverse ethnic groups in the local government for selfish reason.
The question that continues to agitate the minds of people is that, if actually Moses Okino is fighting for the interest of Ebira nation, why did he fail to field a neutral son or daughter of Ebira extraction for the House of Representstives’ slot instead of his heir?
The answer which is not far-fetched is that Moses Okino is only trying to sow the seed of discord for his political gain or ulterior motive. The battle line for supremacy has been drawn between the erstwhile chairman, Aloysius Okino and Alhaji Lawal Idirisu who has thrown his hat into the ring of political contest for the House of Representatives seat under the platform of the All
Progressive Congress,APC.
The business mogul turned politician who is seen as a messiah by the youths and sacked workers of the local government, has all it takes to slog it out with his rival, especially now that the former ALGON chairman has been ousted from office and government machinery is no
longer in his possession to manipulate the electoral process.
If the axiom that says: “the evil that men do lives with them” is applied to the politics of Ajaokuta local government, then Aloysius has a very huge mountain to climb.
He will meet his waterloo at the polls in the February elections. AlhAji lawal needs to strategize and should beware of sycophants and praise singers, because such people are faulty barometers feeling the pulse of society. Hence, to stumble twice on the same stone will be a proverbial disgrace. And the only way to stop the phobia or the fear of being harassed, victimized and marginalized is to vote for a CHANGE so that our local governemnt will be to cleanse off the mess. Alhaji Lawal is coming with a new broom that will sweep clean our environment. [myad]

State Security Service Says It Uncovers APC’s Plans To Cheat In 2015 Elections

Marilyn-Ogar

The State Security Services (SSS), said it had uncovered lists containing names and photographs of security personnel, foreigners and under-aged children on the registered members list of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

The spokesperson of SSS, Marilyn Ogar, disclosed this today at a news conference in Abuja.

Ms. Ogar also said that a video with tutorial for hacking was also uncovered when the service raided a building in Lagos.

She displayed the lists and other items recovered from the building to newsmen.
She also alleged that SSS recovered forms completed by the APC without passport photographs, alongside books containing names of people with phone numbers and many envelopes containing passport photographs of people.

SSS operatives raided the APC data office at No. 10, Bola Ajibola St., Ikeja, Lagos state, on November 24, 2014. Operatives arrested some staff during the raid.

At the time, the agency said it acted on a tip-off. Later, Ms. Ogar said Nigerians would be shocked when presented with the findings of the raid.

At today’s briefing, Ms. Ogar said the agency “suspects” that the opposition party was working on an elaborate plan to illegally inflate the number of the members.

“We suspect that there was an elaborate and well-articulated plan to inflate the party’s membership data as well as hack into INEC’s voter registration database,” the spokesperson said.

According to her, this was done through the creation of the party’s membership forms and cards to match INEC’s voters register across the country.

Ms. Ogar said that the video of 21 hacking tutorials, “a temporary voter card, a permanent voter card’’ were also recovered.

“The tutorial video focused on the following areas: How to become a hacker and steps to take to avoid detection in the process of hacking web services.

“Steps and procedures of system hacking, passwords cracking, decrypting, escalating access privileges and creating backdoors to servers,’’ she said.

Ms. Ogar also said that the tutorial clearly explained how to evade security of database such as “Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), firewalls and other measures put in place to deter backers’’.

She said the video also outlined ways to identify vulnerabilities in systems and how to cleverly drop a USB flash drive in a target establishment.

She alleged that the drive, when plugged into any computer, could transmit “malicious codes enough to gain access into and compromise the entire system of the target organisation.’’

“The video explains how to hack into the systems of media houses with the aim of broadcasting fake stories or headlines,’’ she said.

Ms. Ogar said that suspects arrested in connection with the raid had been charged to court, while investigation had begun.

She promised to update the public with further developments.

Responding to questions, Ms. Ogar said the service had written to the security agencies whose personnel were found on the APC register to investigate their involvement and take necessary actions. [myad]

General Buhari Is Danger To Nigeria, Says Fani-Kayode

Femi Fani Kayode

Former NigerianAviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has said that there are dangers in electing Muhammadu Buhari, the candidate of the opposition party All Progressives Congress (APC) as the President of Nigeria come February 14.

Fani-Kayode, who is the spokesperson of President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign team, said today at a news conference in Abuja that the group will expose the dangers which he said Buhari represents.

According to him the president’s campaign team would run a campaign that focuses on facts, figures and the exposure of Buhari, “for who he really is.”

“It is our full intention to expose General Muhammadu Buhari for what he really is, what he stands for and the great danger that his candidacy portends for the unity of the Nigerian state and the peace and well-being of the Nigerian people,” he said.

Fani-Kayode said the team he leads will also let the world know about the sterling performance of President Jonathan, over the last four years and will also make a strong case to the Nigerian people on the reasons to grant the sitting president, the opportunity to serve a second term.

“We believe that we have reached a crossroads in our nation’s history and that the forthcoming Presidential Election is a battle for the very soul and destiny of Nigeria,” he said.

Fani-Kayode said the election would expose the clear differences between Messrs. Jonathan and Buhari, which he described as “light and darkness”.

“We believe that General Buhari represents the darkness and that President Jonathan represents the light. We believe that General Buhari represents a return to an ugly past, which is best forgotten while President Jonathan represents our hope for a greater and better future.

“We believe that the APC, on which platform General Buhari is contesting the presidential election, represents everything that is unholy and unwholesome in our society and that the PDP represents all that is decent and good,” he said.

Fani-Kayode said the much-touted “change” campaign of Mr. Buhari represents nothing but change from good to evil.

“If you want a positive change, you cannot expect to get it from a man like General Buhari whose democratic credentials are questionable and whose record in public office is shameful and disastrous,” he said.
The former Minister said most Nigerians do not remember the “atrocities” that Mr. Buhari committed when he was in power, adding that it is the responsibility of his team to “document them and remind the Nigerian people about them”.

“Most people have chosen to ignore the number of things that General Buhari has said and the number of things that he has done over the last few months and years that have brought carnage, division and strife in our society and that prove that he is not the sort of person that can be trusted with power.

“It is our intention to bring those things to the attention of the Nigerian people so that they can make an informed choice,” he said.

Fani-Kayode said Nigeria should not be run by a man that is not capable of tolerating dissent or by a political party like the APC that has no sense of remorse, restraint or decency and that is not capable of accepting a plurality of views.

He said Mr. Jonathan has earned the right for a second term and that, in the next few weeks, his campaign team will make a humble appeal to the Nigerian people to vote for him massively in the February 14 Presidential Election.
“By the grace and power of God, we shall prevail,” he said.

Responding to a reporter’s questions on whether Jonathan will travel to the northeastern part of Nigeria that has been under constant attack by the Boko Haram insurgents to canvass for votes, Fani-Kayode said the president would go to the region and “has answers to all their questions.

“In spite of acts of insurgency in the North-East, the PDP-led Federal Government had done a lot to contain the situation,” he said.

He also dismissed allegations of the president condoning corruption, saying no one has been indicted or prosecuted for corruption because “no one has presented credible evidence of corruption against any top government official.” [myad]

Sultan Of Sokoto Wants Government to Hands Off Hajj Funding

Sultan (2)
Sultan of Sokoto and President of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Sa’ad Muhammed Abubakar III has asked the federal government to begin the process of handing off any form of funding for pilgrims to the annual Hajj rituals in Saudi Arabia.
The Sultan, who submitted the 2014 Hajj report to President Goodluck Jonathan at the Presidential Villa, Abuja today, said that one of the few problems staring the hajj operations in Nigeria has been the clamour for the self sustenance of hajj operations in Nigeria. This, he said, “will make federal government spend virtually less or nothing in our quest to have an independent hajj operations in Nigeria.
“We know about the report of the national conference about federal government dealing with hjajj issues and we will like to suggest, before the President takes a stand on that, maybe he should set up a small technical committee, comprising of religious leaders of both Christians and Muslims to see how we can be self sustaining and independent: how the various statutes that put together these two commissions could be amended so that we could go ahead and start sourcing for funds.”
Sultan Sa’ad recalled that in his 2011 report, he brought this issue to the attention of President Jonathan, “not knowing that in 2014 such an issue will be brought back again. Where we mentioned (that) the Central Bank of Nigeria and the NDIC should be encouraged to fast-track production of necessary guidelines and framework for the establishment of hajj savings scheme. That is yet to take off very seriously and we believe if that is done, we might have a hajj commission that is self sustaining.”
The Sultan expressed gratitude to the President for paying the outstanding claims which the National Hajj Commission (NAHCON) presented to him last year for the airlines that did an extra work in airlifting the pilgrims back at the time Nigeria encountered the hijab problem with the Saudi Arabian authorities .
“We want to report to you that the payment has been done and we thank you for that.
“The report has been put together by a team led by the Oba of Lagos, and I want to assure you that we have done our best and to the pride of many Nigerians. The hajj operations is deemed to be more successful in recent times.”
Sultan Sa’ad also thanked the President for supporting Hajj operations which have resulted in what he called tremendous achievements and progress, saying: it couldn’t have been possible without your total commitment and support.
“You will recall that in August you approved the composition of the 23 member federal government team to lead Nigerian pilgrims and his majesty the Oba of Lagos was delegated to team on behalf of Nigerian Muslims, we want to report to you here that the operations went smoothly and was very successful, despite the earlier challenges of the ebola scare which delayed our airlift by over a week to ten days. Despite that, due to the multi-sectoral approach the President used, the ebola scare was contained and visas were issued to our pilgrims.
“We want to thank you for the dynamic leadership in containing the ebola problem which would have been a very big stumbling block in making our pilgrims to perform hajj.
“The hajj exercise was conducted peacefully without any hitches and it is also noteworthy to inform the President that during the hajj operations there the leadership of the team, the Oba of Lagos and the muslim clerics from all over the country came together and organised special prayers for peace stability and progress of our country and most importantly for the peaceful conduct of the elections.”
President Jonathan received the report and thanked the Hajj Commission and assured that because he took hajj matters serious, all the issues raised in the report will be looked at it.
“The office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation usually do a thorough analysis of it and comes up with specific recommendations of what government should do.
“So your eminence should be rest assured that all your observations, which i will not want you to repeat, will be dealt with, because the government believes that we must encourage religious practice in our country.
“I charge you as religious leaders to continue to pray for the country. The excess of criminality in the North, we have issues of terror, in the South we have issues of kidnapping, these are issues being pushed by negative forces. No person who is really religious in any of the religions can willingly go and kill.
“We continue to pray for the peace of the country, especially as we face the general elections this year. Anytime you open the papers, it is as if the country wants to burn, but Nigeria will surely be safe.
“Nigeria will surely be united and we will prosecute the election in the end and this country will surely be a peaceful country and we will all collectively work hard to transform our economy. But you should pray for the peaceful conduct of the general elections and peaceful transition.” [myad]

I Am Proud That I’m Incorruptible, Buhari Beats Chest

General Buhari
“People accuse me of many things. But one thing they never accuse me of is corruption. They never accuse me of mediocrity, or of lying.”
These were the exact words of the Presidential candidate of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) and ex Nigeria military Head of State, General Muammadu Buhari on his tweeter @ThisIsBuhari.
Buhari went on: “I have led this country and I have a record. We were not perfect, but we were effective; we solved problems, and we made Nigerians proud.
“In our government, we fought corruption, we stabilised the naira, and we shut down insurgencies.
“We shouldn’t forget so soon that there was Maitatsine ravaging the North East and we dealt with it. We also overran the Chadian rebels.”
“We rebuilt industries, Nigerians queued up and treated each other with respect; Nigerians took pride in our reputation for discipline.
“The world admired us. We were proud to be Nigerians.
“Because they can’t attack our record, they accuse me falsely of ethnic jingoism; they accuse me falsely of religious fundamentalism.”
“Because they cannot attack our record, they accuse us falsely of calling for election violence – when we have only insisted on peace.”
General Buhari said that even as military Head of State then,  he never imposed Sha’riah, saying that All his running mates and second-in-command have been either Igbo or Yoruba and always Christians.
He said that he had been in the forefront condemning those who burn God’s places of worship, be they churches or mosques and had always wished God’s judgment upon them.
He vowed that if he voted in as President from this year, the punishment for members of Boko Haram and others like them would not stop just at too much talks but that they would be fished out, arrested and be made face the full wrath of the law as punishment for their crimes against the country.

“Good morning, my friends. Before we kick off our rallies in Port Harcourt this morning, let us talk, Nigerian to Nigerian – GMB”
“Many of you believe something is wrong with Nigeria. Some of you have given up. You think this country can not be good; cannot get better.
“And so you forgive politicians for stealing and for mediocrity – because you say to yourselves, “they are all thieves, they are all selfish,” “and nothing will change.” But is that really true? It is not.
“Many people ask me: why am I running for office again? And I ask them – “What has changed since I began this mission?”
“Can you honestly, truly say to yourself that our country has changed for the better? Are our children safe when they go to school?
“Are our parents safe when we leave them at home? Is the naira in your bank account of greater value today than it was four years ago?
“People accuse me of many things. But one thing they never accuse me of is corruption. They never accuse me of mediocrity, or of lying.
“I have led this country and I have a record. We were not perfect, but we were effective; we solved problems, and we made Nigerians proud.
“In our government, we fought corruption, we stabilised the naira, and we shut down insurgencies. #ThingsMustChange.
“We shouldn’t forget so soon that there was Maitatsine ravaging the north east and we dealt with it. We also overran the Chadian rebels.
“We rebuilt industries, Nigerians queued up and treated each other with respect; Nigerians took pride in our reputation for discipline.
“The world admired us. We were proud to be Nigerians. #ThingsMustChange”
“Because they can’t attack our record, they accuse me falsely of ethnic jingoism; they accuse me falsely of religious fundamentalism.
“Because they cannot attack our record, they accuse us falsely of calling for election violence – when we have only insisted on peace.
“Even as Head of State, we never imposed Sha’riah. All my running mates have been either Igbo or Yoruba and always Christian.
“I have and will continue to condemn those who burn God’s places of worship, be they churches or mosques and wish God’s judgment upon them.”
“As your President, their punishment won’t stop there, we will also ensure Boko Haram and other such elements, are found, are arrested, and face the full wrath of the law as punishment for their crimes against our country. #ThingsMustChange”
“So don’t let anyone blind you with fear so they can continue to plunder our resources, and keep you away from our common wealth.
“How can 219 girls be missing in our country, and our leader appears incapable of action? #ThingsMustChange”
“How can 12 young people die because they were looking for jobs in Abuja and justice is not met? Several corruption scandals unsolved.
“How can we allow the cowards of Boko Haram take over any part of this country – a sovereign state? #ThingsMustChange”
“What is going on here? In this our country? In a country that belongs to all of us? #ThingsMustChange”
“My dear friends, this is very important to note: It doesn’t matter if you are Igbo, Yoruba, Ijaw, Hausa, Idoma, Efik, Ekwere, Urhobo, Igala.
“And, no, it does not matter if you are Christian, Muslim, animist or atheist: we need a new direction under a new leadership.
“This is why I am running for the office of the president of Nigeria. This is my promise. #ThingsMustChange”
“This is my promise: We will work hard and fast for you. Our children will go to school and they will return safe.
“Corruption will be a thing of the past and we will ensure that wealth goes around our citizens in an equitable manner.
“Government will conduct itself in a disciplined and responsible manner; we will identify problems and fix them. #ThingsMustChange”
“The task ahead will be challenging and daunting, but it is surmountable. This is what leadership is about. #ThingsMustChange”
“My only desire is to prove to you that Nigeria can truly work. Allow me prove to you that in your lifetime, you can be proud of this country.
“Let me make you this promise today: We will protect your children. We will protect your wealth. We will make this country work again.
“Thank you and God keep us all. Vote APC. Vote #Change.”

Why I’m Happy When Nigerians Complain They’ve Not Got Their Voters Cards – Jonathan

Jonathan
President Goodluck Jonathan has confessed that each time Nigerians complain that they have not gotten their Permanent Voters Cards from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), he feels happy, but in negative form.
“Talking about the PVC (Permanent Voters Cards), even some governors are complaining that they are yet to get their PVC. If governors are yet to get their voters cards, of course, that means that so many Nigerians are yet to get and people are a bit worried.
“But to me, I’m quite pleased not pleased in the negative sense. The awareness that has come on board that Nigerians want to have their voters cards. Between 2011 no Nigerian will complain about voters card and that’s why when some politicians talk I just laugh.”
President Jonathan made the remarks today at the Presidential Villa, Abuja when he swore in Professor Akinola Murtala Salau as a new commissioner in INEC.
The President noted that Nigerians are getting worried weather INEC can actually elections but thet before 2011 not many Nigerians complained about not having voters card “because elections were not conducted with voters cards. “Nobody cared. We are all adults in Nigeria and we knew what was happening. But some people came on board and sanitized electoral process but others want to take the glory. We have to commend ourselves.”
He said that the fact that today, ordinary Nigerians, biggest business men, religious leaders are complaining that they wanted voters cards is a break hrough, away from 2011 where nobody talked about such thing.
“So people should commend us and I’m please that people are talking about voters cards.”
He ordered INEC Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega who was at the Villa, to make sure that all Nigerians get voters cards, saying that elections cannot be conducted in a situation where some people don’t enjoy their rights to vote. “People must decide who rules them at all levels, not just about presidential elections, (but) at the lowest level of elections conducted by INEC – the state assembly elections, House of Representatives, Senate and Presidency; all Nigerians must vote and INEC must do everything possible to make sure that all Nigerians have their voters cards because we cannot afford a situation where some Nigerians will not vote that day.”
President Jonathan congratulated the new commissioner whom he said is the kind of person the government wants to put in INEC.
“We want people with impeccable character,” he said even as he charged the new commission to go and demonstrate clearly that he is somebody with an impeccable character and that he will do good to all Nigerians, irrespective of anything.
“INEC is suppose to be absolutely neutral in its work to conduct credible election because the whole world is watching at INEC and you are coming into INEC at a very critical time with 40 days to election. So you are coming at a critical time that I believe the chairman who is here himself also needs your services. I believe Professor Jega will even want to double the number of staff if he has the resources to make sure that they can cope.”
Meanwhile, Professor Jega has given an assurance that “every registered Nigerian will get his PVC February 14th God willing.” [myad]

Security Challenges: Jonathan Government Has Ran Out Of Ideas, Buhari Campaign Council Notes

Garba Shehu latest
The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council has noted that the security challenges facing Nigeria for more than three years now have put the administration of Goodluck Jonathan out of its depth, and that the government has ran out of ideas even as the Council welcomes the challenge by the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation for an issue-based campaign rather than personal attacks.
A statement signed by Director, Media and Publicity of the campaign organisation, Mallam Garba Shehu recalled President Jonathan’s advice to his campaign handlers to focus on issue-based campaign devoid of personal attacks on political opponents.
Reacting to the President Jonathan challenge, presidential candidate of APC, Muhammadu Buhari said it was more than pleased to focus the 2015 election campaign on issues.
The APC statement issued from Calabar, Cross River State, where the candidate held an impressive rally, said that the issues facing the Nigerian voters are essentially security, unemployment, the economy and corruption.
The APC Campaign Council said the purported improvements of the economy are merely on paper and only reminiscent of George Orwell’s “Animal Farm.”
It said that no government could boast of improving the economy when the quality of life of the majority of the citizens is getting rapidly worse.
“You can’t run an economy on unworkable economic thieves that haven’t impacted positively on the lives of Nigerians in practice.”
APC Presidential campaign Council identified jobs and job security as the greatest issues facing the Nigerian voters, adding  that the problem of lack of gainful employment for the teeming Nigerians is getting ever grimmer.
It said that the Jonathan government lacked the moral right to talk about issue-based campaign in areas of people’s lives in which he has failed woefully to deliver.
On corruption, the APC Campaign maintained that no development or progress can ever take place in any country where corruption or stealing as they choose to dub it, not only thrives, but is also celebrated and condoned.
It wondered how a government that strikes deals with corrupt persons in return for political support should preach about issues-based campaign, adding that on all the issues facing Nigerians, the PDP has failed the citizens.
The APC Campaign said it was not surprised that members of the Jonathan campaign have resorted to personal attacks on Buhari and focusing on trivial issues because the government has thoroughly run out of ideas to lead Nigeria to the promised destination.
It said unfulfilled promises lead to disillusionment and loss of faith of the voters in a failed ruling party.
According to the APC Campaign, the Jonathan Campaign should not talk about issues in which it has failed woefully.
Worse still, it noted that the handlers of the Jonathan Campaign started off on the wrong footing by resorting to abuse of the person of Buhari and demonization of the opposition party even after the charge to it by President Jonathan. [myad]

2015: Uduaghan Pleads With PDP Members To Work For Success Of Candidates

Gov-Uduaghan-
Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has called on on members of the Peoples’ Democratic Party [PDP] to work hard including engaging in door to door campaign to ensure they garner all the votes in the 2015 general elections.
Governor Uduaghan made the call today in Asaba during the inauguration of the Delta State PDP Campaign Committee.
The Chairman of the PDP in the state, Chief Edwin Uzor performed the inauguration which took place at Government House, Asaba with the governorship candidate, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa and members of the Committee in attendance.
Governor Uduaghan reminded members of the party that time for celebration of the party primaries was over and that it is time to prepare for the main elections. He emphasised the need for members of the party to sensitise Deltans on the need to vote comprehensively for PDP candidates.
“The celebration of the primaries is over, what is important is the main election. Let us put what happened at the primaries behind us, come together as a family to deliver our candidates at the 2015 elections because we have to give 100 percent support and maximum vote to President Jonathan and Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa.
“This is not time for negative media propaganda, use your talents to deliver our candidates. It is going to be a door to door campaign. We have the structure on the ground. We have a lot of achievements both at federal and state levels to market to our people, let all our leaders who are active at both wards and unit levels be mobilised to embark on this campaign.”
