Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, has tested negative for coronavirus a few days after he was tested positive, even as he moved swiftly to appoint a new Secretary to the State Government (SSG). Governor Akeredolu, who personally announced his positive coronavirus status last week, today, July 6, also announced that doctors confirmed his negative status after running the test twice. In a tweet, the governor said he had appointed Temitayo Oluwatuyi as the new Secretary to the Ondo State Government following the resignation of Ifedayo Abegunde. “Today, I announced the appointment of Hon. Temitayo Oluwatuyi ‘Tukana’ as the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) to resume immediately following the resignation of Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde,” Akeredolu wrote. Abegunde resigned on Monday and tendered his resignation letter to Akeredolu.
The Department of State Service (DSS) has put to complete lie, reports in the media that its agents have arrested the acting chairman and Chief executive officer of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu The Service’s Public Relations Officer, Peter Afunanya, in a statement today, July 6, said that the story of the arrest of Magu was a complete fabrication. The statement titled; “OFFICIAL: Dagu is Not Arrested by DSS” said: “The Department of State Services (DSS) wishes to inform the public that it did not arrest Ibrahim MAGU, Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as has been reported by sections of the media. “The Service, has since, today, 6th July, 2020, been inundated with enquiries over the alleged arrest.” Social media was awashed today about the arrest of the EFCC chairman.
Former Nigeria Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has cursed the All Progressives Congress (APC) and all those who linked him to an alleged fraudster, Ramon Abbas, AKA Hushpuppi.
In a tweet, according to his spokesman, Paul Ibe, the former Vice President described as curious, the APC’s attempt at reading negative meaning to a photograph he appeared in with the suspected fraudster, saying: “for the avoidance of doubt, it was a mere photo-op and not at any meeting as being ingloriously speculated.”
“We would advise the APC and Mr. Nabena to be very mindful of such senseless statements in the future,especially as the case under reference is a subject of litigation in another country.
“Had they been more sensitive, they would have come to terms with the reality that the case is a national embarrassment – not something to cheer about for any political blackmail.”
Ebony State Governor, Dave Umahi has tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19).
The governor broke the news in a statement he personally signed today, July 4.
He said some of his aides also tested positive for the virus.
Governor Umahi, who said he is not showing any symptom at the moment, appealed to the people of Ebonyi to take the NCDC protocols more seriously.
“If I test positive, my deputy will carry on with the fight as a frontline worker, but we will be extremely careful and use zoom to do our jobs. No retreat, no surrender! We will fight this COVID-19 matter to the end.
“We will have the public hearing on our proposed plan of the COVID-19 fight next week and either me or my deputy will head the meeting, and I will contribute through zoom, if I test positive,” Umahi had told cabinet members in Abakaliki, the state capital.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) might have saved itself from embarrassment of losing Edo State via the electoral technicality when it disqualified it’s Governor, Godwin Obaseki, from taking part in the primaries on the basis of discrepancies in his certificate, for his possible second term in office. This fact came to light late last week when the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) hurriedly issued him a corrected version of his 1980 NYSC discharged certificate which APC considered to be questionable. The new discharged certificate has as its number A 004280695. Obaseki’s new discharge certificate was issued on June 19, 2020. A memo signed on behalf of NYSC Director-General by K.N Okonofua was also attached with the title: ‘Re-correction of name and re-issuance of my certificate of national service’. The memo read: “We refer to your letter referenced OEG/ABJ/99/VOL.IV/172 dated 18th June 2020, on the above subject matter. “I am directed to inform you that after the investigation, the management of the National Youth Service has approved a new certificate of National Service reflecting the surname OBASEKI be produced as earlier certificate number 063107 dated 6th August 1980 has been cancelled due to an error in theH surname OBASEK. “Accept the assurances of the Director-General’s regard.” Source: The Punch.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Campaign Council for the 2020 Edo governorship election has said that the party deserves to win the election because the governments it formed in the past had impacted positively on the people of the state.
The Council said that it is therefore committed to the victory of the party’s governorship ticket in the election.
APC’s ticket has Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and Alhaji Gani Audu as governorship and deputy governorship candidates respectively.
Secretary of the Council, Hon. Abbas Braimah said in a press release today, July 3 that the council was doing it’s best to ensure the realisation of the presidential mandate.
The statement reads: “On behalf of the Chairman and members of the APC National Campaign Council for the Edo State Governorship Election, I wish to express our deep appreciation and gratitude to the Caretaker Committee of the All Progressives Congress for the opportunity given us to serve our great party in this capacity.
“We are well aware of the challenges inherent in our assignment, but we are motivated by the clear mandate of President Muhammadu Buhari, that all members of our party should come together and work hard to ensure that APC wins in Edo State come September 19, 2020.
“While doing our best to ensure that this mandate is realised, we will ensure that the will of Edo people is respected at all times.

Nigeria, through Police Service Commission (PSC) has promoted 6,618 Senior Police Officers to their next ranks.
The promotion exercise was one of the high points of the 8th Plenary Meeting of the Commission, which spanned a period of three weeks, ending July 1, 2020.
It was presided over by the Commission’s Chairman, retired Inspector General of Police Musiliu Smith.
One Assistant Inspectors General of Police, Olushola Oyebade, currently at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Jos, Plateau State, was promoted to the next rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police to represent the South West geopolitical zone.
Four Commissioners of Police, including one specialist, was promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police.
They are Aisha L. Abubakar, CP Veterinary Department; CP Asuquo A. A. Amba, former CP, Bayelsa State Command, Counter Terrorism and currently CP Ekiti State Command; CP Nekereuwem A. Akpan, former CP Cross Rivers State Command; and Olafihan Adeniran Adeeoye, currently CP Anti Terrorism.
The Commission also approved the promotion of three Deputy Commissioners of Police to the next rank of substantive Commissioners of Police.
They are DCP Jonathan Towuru, Deputy Force Secretary; DCP Abiodun Alabi, National Defence College; and DCP Akande Kayode of the State House (Presidential Villa).
Three Assistant Commissioners of Police: ACP. Adenola J. Oluwole, ACP Valentine Olumese and ACP Isa Jibril Grema, were promoted to the next rank of Deputy Commissioners of Police.
Eight Superintendents of Police, including Omoruyi Godwin; Clifford Okwor, presently of Anambra State Command; and Uchendu Fransica Ngozi, Staff Officer Senior, also of Anambra State Command, were also promoted to the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police.
Six hundred and seven Deputy Superintendents of Police were also elevated to the rank of Superintendents of Police.
They include DSP. Markus Goyom, Ifeoma Chukwu Ozuruigbo, Elizabeth Olajimoke Olatunbosun, Mina Mosese Anderson of the Delta State Command and Mohammed Yakubu Ibrahim, Divisional Police Officer 9th Mile, Enugu State Command.
Others are Frank Omokhoje Longe, Delta State Command; Chukwudi Nwanze Simon; Ukadike Oyekachukwu Martins; Jemimah Okafor; Emeka Iheanacho, Police Public Relations Officer, Zone 5; and Ede John Chukwuemeka.
The Commission also promoted 206 Assistant Superintendents of Police to Deputy Superintendents, among which were Ignatius Ogoejbunam Atta, Mustapha Ali and Awe Vincent
It also promoted 5,786 Inspectors to Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP11).
Some of the new ASPs are Egbo Rosemary Obianujunwa, Operations, Delta State Command; Abdulahi Mohammed; Elvina Chukwu, Oyo State Command; Balogun Olushegun; Amaka Onwude, CPS, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State Command; Samuel Agu, Delta State Command; Joseph Seyinko; and Chinyere Mabeokwu of Enugu Area Command.
Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Clem Ikanade Agba has made it clear that Edo has always been an All Progressives Congress (APC) state and must remain so come the governorship election on September 19 this year.
Agba, in a congratulatory message to the APC governorship flagbearer, Pastor Osagie Ize Iyamu declared: “Edo State has been an APC state and it must remain so.
“It is my sincere hope that leaders, stakeholders and members of the APC in Edo State will work assiduously to sell the profile and agenda of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu to every person even though he is already a household name from his many years as a grassroots mobilizer.
“On my part, I am prepared to offer the leadership alongside our other eminent federal elected and appointed office holders on the platform of our great party to ensure that the party emerges victorious in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive to get Edo State back to the APC fold; and, I take this opportunity to assure Mr President that we will not disappoint him.”
The minister said that the APC in Edo State had demonstrated an uncommon camaraderie and desire to again form the next government in the state.
“I am confident that the government that will emerge after the September election that will be led by Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu will be one that will inspire hope in our people, harness our God-given potentialities and lead Edo people to prosperity.
“The pointer to the victory that lies ahead was the very successful conduct of the primary election in a rancour-free manner, devoid of the shenanigans witnessed in other political parties.”
He called on all members of the party to unite around the Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu/Gani Audu ticket in the overall interest of the party and Edo people.
“I can say without any iota of doubt or equivocation that we shall be victorious on September 19th.”
The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has called on his opponent in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the incumbent governor, Godwin Obaseki to join in maintaining high standards of behavior as they go into the contest.
Ize Iyamu, in a message today, July 2, congratulating governor Obaseki on his 63rd birthday anniversary, said: “as leaders, you and I, including other aspirants, have the opportunity, and responsibility, to make things better and ensure that our contest is marked by democratic values that drive high standards of behavior.”
The APC flagbearer, who wished Obaseki God’s abundant blessings as hr celebrate his new age, reminded the governor that Edo people need a Governor that will help to unify the State, douse the political tension, and focus completely on the development of the state.
“Let the will of God be done and I want to assure you that my wish is that we have a campaign, devoid of rancor and violence.”
Ize Iyamu recalled what he described as “divine coincidence,” whereby the two of them are now to contest again on different political platforms for the opportunity to lead Edo people and serve the state as Governor.
“God appears to have arranged musical chairs for both of us, bringing me to APC which I helped to form and which you contested in 2016, and taking you to PDP where I previously contested and where you have now expressed your preference.”
The APC candidate then assured Obaseki that he had his best and sincere wishes for a happy birthday.
