The Nigerian Army has declared a Nigerian journalist, Ahmed Salkida (Ambassador), Ahmed U. Bolori and Aisha Wakil wanted in connection to the abducted Chibok girls.
A statement by the Acting Director of the Nigerian Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani K. Usman, said that the trio are believed to be in possession of information on the conditions and the exact location of schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram from Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, in 2014.
The statement said that the action by the Army is based on relevant laws.
“We are relying on the relevant laws of the land and in particular, the Terrorism Prevention Act 2011 (as amended), where Nigerians could be punished for failure to disclose information about terrorists or terrorist activities.
“This becomes necessary as a result of their link with the last two videos released by Boko Haram terrorists and other findings of our preliminary investigations.”
The statement said that the Army is certain that the wanted persons have links with Boko Haram terrorists and have contact with them.
“They must, therefore, come forward and tell us where the group is keeping the Chibok Girls and other abducted persons to enable us to rescue them.”
The Army called on the general public to provide information on the whereabouts of the wanted persons, adding that the Army is working with other security agencies for their arrest if they fail to turn up.
Salkida is a notable Nigerian journalist who has remained a credible source of information about Boko Haram activities.
He has occasionally acted as a negotiator between the Nigerian government and Boko Haram militants before going on exile.
Salkida has remained active from exile providing up to date information and free advice on Boko Haram activities.
arlier after members of Boko Haram released a new video showing some of the girls, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said that the Federal Government is doing everything possible to secure the release of the girls and put an end to the horrible saga of their abduction.
In a statement, the minister
said that the government is in touch with those purportedly behind the video.
“We are on top of the situation.
“But we are being extremely careful because the situation has been compounded by the split in the leadership of Boko Haram.
“We are also being guided by the need to ensure the safety of the girls. Since this is not the first time we have been contacted over the issue, we want to be doubly sure that those we are in touch with are who they claim to be.”
Mohammed expressed the hope that the latest development will signal the beginning of the end of the nightmare to which the girls, their families and indeed all Nigerians have been subjected since the unfortunate abduction.” [myad]
