Please, Don’t Discourage Ejikeme Joy, She’s Still Brilliant – Festus Keyamo

Immediate past Nigerian minister of Labour and employment, Festus Keyamo has pleaded with Nigerians not to discourage Mmesoma Joy Ejikeme from pursuing her education on account of her confessed forgery of JAMB result.
In a statement today July 8, Keyamo said that what Joy Ejikeme did, even though she’s still brilliant, is common with growing up of young ones.
“She’s a brilliant girl, judging by her actual score of 249. The nation should be careful not to destroy her. What she needs is counselling, correction and guidance.
“She obviously did not know the weight and gravity of what she was doing. As teenagers, most of us made juvenile mistakes that never came to light.”
The former minister advised her parents to encourage her to do a public apology to JAMB, to her family and to Nigerians after which she should be allowed to get her admission, based on her actual scores.
“Anyone still pushing other narratives over this issue is not helping her and her family.
“It is time to close this very unfortunate chapter and move on.”

Ejikeme Joy Faces Ripple Effect Of Manipulating JAMB Result, Loses N3 Million Scholarship

Embattled Mmesoma Joy Ejikeme appears to have lost out some financial assistances after confessing that she manipulated her JAMB result which has caused a lot of confusion in the country.
Today, July 8, Innoson withdraws N3 Million scholarship awarded to her after Anambra State commission of inquiry confirmed that she faked her result.
In a statement, head of corporate communications at Innoson, Cornel Osigwe said  that the company made the difficult decision to withdraw the scholarship “in response to the confirmed findings.”
The statement said: “In recent days, we have been involved in the process of investigating allegations surrounding the 2023 UTME examination results of one of our scholarship recipients, Miss Joy Mmesoma Ejikeme. It was reported initially that Miss Joy scored exceptionally high on the exam, a feat that led to her being awarded a scholarship by our company.
“However, subsequent reports of discrepancies in her UTME score led us to seek clarification from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and to allow her to voice her stance, we engaged in direct dialogue with Miss Joy.
“Further to this, a committee set up by the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, carried out a thorough independent investigation into this matter.
“The findings from this rigorous investigation have now confirmed that Miss Joy Mmesoma Ejikeme did manipulate her UTME results. This conclusion is deeply disappointing and stands in direct contravention of the values we hold dear at Innoson Vehicles, particularly those that underscore our scholarship program.
“In line with these principles and in response to the confirmed findings, we have made the difficult decision to withdraw the scholarship awarded to Miss Joy Mmesoma Ejikeme. This action is a testament to our unyielding commitment to honesty, integrity, and merit-based recognition.
“We acknowledge that this development is regrettable, and it has undoubtedly caused dismay among those who stood by Miss Joy, including her school principal and other well-meaning supporters. However, it is crucial to maintain the integrity of our scholarship program and the values it represents.
“Innoson Vehicles remains steadfast in its mission to support deserving students, invest in the future of our education sector, and uphold the highest ethical standards.”

Anambra Committee Asks Ejikeme Joy To Apologize To JAMB, Others For Cheating

An eight member Committee of enquiry set up by the Anambra state governor, Professor Charles Soludo to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged forgery of a JAMB result by Mmesoma Joy Ejikeme has asked her to apologize to the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for manipulating her JAMB result that had raised dust in the public space recently.
Others to whom the candidate should apologize, according to the committee, are the school in which she sat for the examination and the State government.
In a 8-paged report submitted after its findings, the committee said it discovered that the suspect changed her Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, result after she openly confessed to doing so.
The committee recommended that Ejikeme Joy should go through psychological observations, meaning that she would go through psychiatric test for being so daring in her attitude.
Ejikeme Joy, who had been the centre of controversy, had said she scored a total of 362 in the examination, contrary to the real score sent to her by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB
Below is the Committee report:
REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE ON EJIKEME JOY MMESOMA’S JAMB SCORE CONTROVERSY
Recall Mr. Governor that with the recent release of scores of candidates who applied for admission by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), and subsequent announcement of Nkechiyer Umeh as the candidate with the highest score of 360, Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma, a 19 year old student of Anglican Girls’ Secondary School, Uruagu Nnewi, from Enugu State, protested to the State Government that she scored 362 and ought to have been so recognised. This has elicited interests and generated serious controversy and misgivings among the general public that the State Government in its wisdom decided to constitute a Committee of Inquiry to look into the underlisted terms of reference;
ReviewEjikeme Joy Mmesoma’s JAMB Results and associated documents
Conduct interviews with relevant parties, including Ejikeme JoyMmesoma, JAMB Officials and any other individual(s) involved in the
Ill. Provide recommendations basE:d on the findings of the investigation.
The Committee invited Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma, the Principal of Anglican Girls’ Secondary School, and officials of JAMB for interactive session with the Committee. JAMB officials led by Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the Head Public Affairs presented the detailed processes and procedures involved in JAMB admissions, the policy changes that have occurred in the release of UTME scores since 2021 and what spe.cifically transpired between the candidate – Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma with registration number: 20230639047FF in her quest to obtain her JAMB score.
JAMB revealed the different times that Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma made several requests to JAMB portal asking for her results at different hours, and each of these times (four in number), she received in her phone, same results from JAMB indicating candidate’s UTME Results to w”it: Eng: 64, Phy:54, Bio: 74, Che: 57 with a total aggregate score of 249. JAMB disclosed that the candidate was well informed of her correct score from JAMB. Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma had sent a request to JAMB with a different registration number showing a UTM E result of aggregate score of 362, with Eng: 98, Phy: 89, Bio: 94, and Che: 81. The results she sent differed substantially from the standard JAMB format where she got an appropriate rebuttal stating her real score of 249.
Besides, a number of red-flags was also highlighted by JAMB officials showin_ga different date of birth, different Registration Number, Notification of results template that has been discarded since 2021, amongst others. It was also evident that even the centre name “Nkemefuna Foundation (Thomas Chidoka Centre for Human Development as it was known before now) used for the examination was also manipulated where the candidate used the old name of the centre (Thomas Chidoka Centre for Human Development) in her own manipulated result sheet.
In Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma’s submission, she owned up in the presence of her principal, and the Education Secretary that the narration by the JAMB officials was a true and correct description of what transpired. She also admitted to have given a manipulated result by herself unaided, using same phone Airtel Number. According to her, she proceeded to the cybercafe (Prisca Global Computers, Uruagu, Nnewi) where she printed the results she had manipulated.
The Committee tried to find out the motive behind her action, but Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma said NOTHING. In their own submissions, the Principal Anglican Girls’ Secondary school, Uruagu Nnewi, and the Education Secretary – Diocese of Nnewi (Anglican Communion) expressed shock at what transpired where in their presence, Mmesoma admitted to have manipulated her UTME results, deceiving the school, her immediate family and the State Government.

International Anti-Corruption Academy Boss Faults Transparency I’nternational’s Rating

The Dean of the International Anti-Corruption Academy, IACA, in Vienna, Austria, Thomas Stelzer, has said that the measuring tool used by Transparency International (TI) in her Corruption Perceptions Index has a lot of gaps that needed to be bridged.
“A lot of governments are doing so much but do not get credit for them.”
Stelzer spoke when he visited the headquarters of the Independent Corrupt Practice and other relevant offences Commission (ICPC) as part of activities of his working visit to Nigeria.
Stelzer, who is IACA’s Executive Secretary of Assembly of Parties, said that TI’s CPI puts governments in difficult positions because no matter how hard governments of nations work, they are exposed and reduced to the perceptions of constituents.
The IACA Dean said that IACA is working on measuring corruption as part of its research work by putting together all the expertise, bringing on board everybody who has something to contribute to the project in order to see the right methodology to adopt for better results.
“We are totally imperative, we are transparent, and we want everyone to participate from the beginning so that we can hold everybody accountable in implementing later what we might have agreed on and we would also like your Academy to contribute.”
Stelzer explained that IACA is the only intergovernmental, international organisation that concentrates on the holistic fight against corruption, and enjoys the status of an institution of higher learning.
He added that the body is authorized to offer academic degrees, offer technical assistance and capacity building to practitioners to facilitate implementation of the provisions of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC).
He said that IACA engages in capacity building through education and non-academic training by offering technical assistance to people from different sectors including investigative journalists and members of the private sector.
“One of the reasons I came to visit Nigeria is to see how we can scale up this traditional strong cooperation as well as take things forward with focus on how we can add value to the national efforts in the fight against corruption.”
In his remarks, the ICPC Chairman, Professor Bolaji Owasanoye, gave a brief background of the Commission vis-à-vis its statutory mandate.
He said that even though ICPC was set up in year 2000, a few years before UNCAC, it reflects UNCAC’s principles and focus, which can be seen in the Commission’s tripartite mandate.
He gave a rundown of the 3-pronged mandate of enforcement, prevention and enlightenment, saying that although not easily measurable, ICPC makes a lot of progress under its preventive mandate, which is not measured nor captured by the CPI, even though the efforts contribute massively to the fight against corruption.
He mentioned some other specific projects ICPC engaged in to include being the secretariat for inter-agency committee on stopping Illicit Financial Flows (IFFs) in Nigeria,.
He said that in that capacity, the Commission organizes capacity building on slippery areas such as tax evasion, transfer pricing, trade mis-invoicing for organisations connected to IFFs; issue advisories to government on dumping the use of confidentiality clauses in extractive industry  and eradication of the use of tax waivers for multinational companies.
Other activities, the ICPC boss said, include designing guidelines for the private sector to recognise vulnerabilities to IFFs in their operations; being central in propagating the Common African Position on Assets Recovery (CAPAR) by collaborating with the High-Level Panel chaired by former South African President, Thabo Mbeki; training of the media on using perception tools amongst other activities.
The Chairman said that ICPC through its training arm, ACAN, has begun conducting surveys of experiences with corruption, in order to know how to adjust and deal with issues instead of relying solely on the annual report by TI.
“We would love to be able to partner with IACA to become a regional hub for some of our activities and those of IACA, to exchange staff once we agree on the parameters and to test the waters by having some activities at the regional level jointly with funding from partners to build capacity within anti-corruption agencies and in the broader context among stakeholders and public sector players towards diminishing corruption.”
The highlight of the visit was a tour of the facilities at the Commission’s headquarters.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned an official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Achigili Raph Ogili and two others, Sunday Okpara and Rasaq Abdulrahaman Dabiri, over allegations of conspiracy and falsification of documents.
The trio, according to a statement today, July 7, by the ICPC spokesperson, Mrs. Azuka Ogugua, were arraigned before Justice J. E. Obanor of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, sitting in Jabi, Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
In a Charge No: CR/321/2023 filed before the trial court, the Commission alleged that the 1st accused person (Ogili) used a forged University of Abuja statement of result with Registration Number 2720700176 to support his application for upgrading in the Corps. He was also accused of forging a letter confirming the fake statement of result as genuine, purportedly written by the Deputy Registrar (Academics) of the University.
Both the 2nd and 3rd defendants were charged for their complicity in the forged letter confirming the fake statement of result as genuine.
Their offences are contrary to sections 96 and 366, and punishable under sections 364 and 368 of the Penal Code Act, Cap 532, Laws of the FCT, Abuja 2006.
The accused persons entered a “not guilty” plea when the charges were read to them and their lawyers in three separate motions raised bail applications on their behalf which were not opposed by the prosecution counsel, Dorathy Suleman.
The defendants were then admitted to bail in the sum of Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N500,000) and a surety in like sum who must reside within the jurisdiction of the Court.
The case has been adjourned to the 30th and 31st of October 2023 for commencement of hearing.
